Amazing what happens when humans are doing the kind of work that we excel at i.e. creative, unpredictable work with expertise applied. The next time you hear someone complain that automation is replacing a humans job, ask yourself if that was ever a job a human should have been doing to begin with.
3:50 "Bushings, bearings, fasteners..." PRECISELY timed with three hammer strokes (or staple gun, something like that) in the background. Exactly synchronized! Anyone catch that? Have to say though, I'm impressed with Mazen Fawaz. He's clearly intelligent, very knowledgeable and refreshingly direct and honest as he gave the tour. I'm also impressed with the straight to the point approach by the presenter and by Top Gear. No fluff, packed with information, great editing, enthusiastic presenter. Well done!
Yes perfectly timed..! I immediately started looking for this comment.. :) Also a great line for a t-shirt or the chorus of a mediocre EDM song: Bushings, bearings, fasteners.
I agree, ha, ha, ha. Lets face it, its a suspension piece, cleaned really well, painted really well and then the magic bushings are installed the same way every bushing in the regular world is installed.
I remember years ago - prior even to the Harris/Singer video - seeing a video of Mazen driving his young son around in a 911. The young boy counts down from 3, if I recall; Mazen takes off; kid giggles (adorably) at the experience. It was the first time I ever wanted a 911 for the explicit purpose of sharing the experience with my children. Fantastic video here. Could not be more happy for the Singer guys.
The ceo is like a child-hearted whole person. Can we start it? Shrugs it off like why not with extreme excitement 🤣. You can he finds the prosperity of singers success the biggest blessing he's had in life.
I have been fortunate in being able to drive two examples of Singer “hot rods” and it is literally difficult to verbally pass along how perfect the driver engagement experience feels as opposed to a purely original Porsche 964/911. Actually, as opposed to any other major car manufacturer, not just Porsche, including the more focused low production quantity products. I was captivated by the level of precision and obviously thoughtful effort that was presented in the effort to elevate the “feel” of quite literally every detail the driver would be engaged with. That goes for those items one would touch and see while operating the car or even sitting still. But what was surprisingly unique was just how specifically intentional the car communicates through the seat, pedals, and steering wheel. For anyone that is a true lover of the drive experience (very different from say, the comfort experience), I have honestly never experienced another vehicle that seems to have taken every detail, down to the minutia, to this extraordinary level of intention to all the senses of the driver’s engagement experience. Aside from the physical vehicle, it’s actually quite fun just to imagine the effort and interaction that was obviously involved to bring a car like this to life. The whole concept of Singers intention along with these final products are just the absolute definition of cool. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
I was fortunate enough to visit the original Singer location and the new factory is a massive upgrade. Let me be frank, the prior location was not just unimpressive - it was a dump. Cramped, dim, disorganized, and thoroughly un-modern are probably the kindest words I can find to describe it. You could hardly believe the level of bespoke craftsmanship was being done in such an environment.
Yes it was a mess. As a client I can concur that it has not always been easy to deal with Singer. Hopefully now the whole operation will be much more streamlined and proper. That said, Tim is and has always been amazing when it comes to customer support.
Wow! Congratulations Rob D. and all of the Singer crew, on the fantastic new factory! Looks like paradise. I can't wait to see what the do with the turbos! 😮
There is something so special about being creative. Woodworker by trade, high end bespoke residential renovations & repairs of period correct New England houses... But working on my Audis, C5 allroad & B6 S4 I also the passion. refabricating exterior / interior mouldings in carbon fiber, reupholstering the interior, upgrading the performance aspects of motor & suspension, all of t @ times challenging & frustrating to get right but so satisfying when it all comes together & you pull in @ the German car show & you know you did it well when you receive compliments.. It's so much about putting yourself into a creation. It is akin to being a musician & creating those melodies & intricate music passages... If ever I get to the other side of the pond, hopefully being able to visit Singer will be on the docket... About to purchase my 1st Porsche, an 05 Boxter-S special edition.... Cheers..
The customer journey can be a nightmare. My car took 7 years because of Singer not being able to get a move on. Hopefully it's better with the new factory. The old shop was kind of a mess.
Nothing better, they bring tears to my eyes. Absolutely stunning in every way, they deserve all the plaudits and success. I hope every customer respects and fully appreciates their purchase from these craftsmen. ❤❤
TopGear is one of the best channels. Ollie is brilliant and a dab hand behind the wheel! I've been a huge fan of SInger and what they've achieved. I've even got their moto written on my whiteboard in the office for the guys to remember "Everything is important". Yet I really didn't want to see behind the doors of this extraordinary success story (order book full for 5-years? Come on). I loved the magical mystery of where these cars come from. I could picture artisans chiselling away in underground bunkers in top secrecy producing these unique pieces of art.
So happy to see Singer thriving after all these years. Classic Porsches are beautiful cars and so to see them given a refresh, upgrade, and a second lease on life is awesome.
There are. The business model isn't a recent revelation at all its just Singer has refined it incredibly well. It also doesn't hurt that the lines of older Porsche's are iconic universally and didn't change drastically for decades. Which meant multiple generations grew up admiring those outlines and models with posters on their bedroom walls and all - now a lucky bunch are of an age where they can afford an updated, upgraded, masterpiece. I'm sure every rich supercar collector now also needs a Singer in the collection as well. I remember when I worked on a car magazine show in the late 1990s and we visited a workshop where they resto-modded old 50's/60's/70's Jaguars using the newer present-day model Jags. At the time they were famous in the Jaguar world. If you're interested they were called Beacham Jaguar.
I sold Porsche's in the 80's and 90's. I have driven so many different Porsche's I have no idea just how many. From the 924 to slant nosed 911's and the 91 911 Turbo. There wasn't a 911 Turbo in 1990 and the '91 was the first Turbo that wasn't such a handful to drive 10/10's. Those days bring back so many memories. When the C4 was introduced in '89 I knew Porsche has a winner. Then came the C2 in 1990. The C4 and C2's were both a joy to drive full out. The C4 handled like it was on rails! It's nice seeing a company building a 911 on my favorite model, the 964! How I would love to have a chance to sit behind the wheel of any Singer for a day! Truly a work of art. Porsche's moto "Form Follows Function" and Singer has nailed it!
Mind bogglingly meticulous. Years ago when I heard about this process I was blown away at how expensive these cars are. After watching this video I can better appreciate the the premise.
They are still vastly overpriced, IMO. I'm sure they are making a very healthy profit on each and every one, hence the dramatic upscaling of their production facilities. Most luxury goods are overpriced. There will always be a select group of people willing to pay for quality and exclusivity. If one has the means and the time, I'm sure a person, could make something similar for much less.
Little known fact, Bob Rothstein dreamed of being an opera singer like his childhood friend's mother. Fortunately for car enthusiasts, his talent was in design and engineering. His vocal talents were poor, to be kind, but he legally changed his name to Singer in a tribute to the woman and dream that was such an inspiration. His reimagined Porsche builds truly DO sing! 🙌
After watching this video, I was excited to see the work they have done. After watching the full video, I always wanted to do this kind of job right from my college days. I want to know on how to get a job at Singer. I am currently working as technician in India and i have done customization of small cars and upgrading some of the imported cars like Mercs and BMW's, getting parts for these cars is a herculean task. So i want to work in companies like Singer or Thion Bell.
The last Singer tour (and one of my favourite rewatchable youtube vids) was when Chris harris went to there original unit "factory". This is crazy, love it
Simply and wonderfully mindboggling. Love these guys ever since they started. Living proof that a good mentality is nothing but win win. Thank you for this, Top Gear!
It all good when you have a passion for something that's worth it's weight in gold in the end it paid off especially with a solid set of workers who knows precision and craftsmanship, things turn out wonderfully beautiful 🙏🙏👍👍
the various renditions of the gorgeous 911s prevent me from ever making any other car my favorite!!! if only i had been fortunate enough to own one...sadly i will never even get to ride in one much less drive one!! they are an amazing feat of engineering!!! i wish they were available to everyone!
Singer has distilled the mythology of Porche into singular objects that radiate purity. A feat Porche itself could only accomplish in spurts on this or that detail, but never to this level, in consummate fashion. The demand is never going to end. Well Done; Very Well Singer.
Have to watch it twice. Once for the whole Singer Porsche experience, because the first time trying to figure out if the rafter beams were actually wood. Even the factory is a masterpiece.
Yes.. however SoCal is the epicenter of custom automotive culture of the West Coast, if not the entire US; and that's where creative people and the pool of talent is available. There's a reason there's so many global manufactures have design studio's in SoCal, and it has nothing to do with cost. SoCal isn't the only place in the US that creative talented people are, but the SoCal culture and weather act as an incubator for creativity. Having lived there myself, I will agree with you that its a terrible place to conduct business and employee people (taxes and an endless list of state agencies working against business success) but with over 10 Million people in the LA and Orange county region there's always the manufacturing resources available.
i heard of singer for the first time on top gear when James May drove a incredible nice 911 singer in grey. It was explained that the brand is Singer because it´s owner had a band but not known to many ,the reason why he started to improve old 911´s , my surprise when i saw Catherine wheel lead singer as being the "Singer", might not have been a very sucessfull band but one of my favorite bands in the 90´s, started with their fantastic first LP "Ferment" than i bought all Lp´s that came out ,i might not love each song from this band but enough to buy all their records and if i had enough money i would also buy their Singer 911´s

None of what He saw pleased him; not Ferrari, Rolls Royce, not even a donkey.... so God stretched his arm down to Earth and touched the hand of Rob Dickinson. Alas, Singer Vehicle Design was born.”_ The Singer 911 is a masterpiece at the level of Michelangelo's Pieta. It is rolling sculpture. Every curve, every detail is excruciatingly crafted. The Singer 911 is so beautiful that, upon a glance, Medusa herself would turn to stone. My hairs stand up on the back of my neck. My arms and legs go numb. My whole body trembles. I weep. In the end, I don't know how I will afford a Porsche by Singer. My dream becomes my nightmare...
Nope. At one point yes, but not any more. I’d rather a RUF. Not so long ago you could spend up to half a million dollars on a Singer, now they start at well over that. Or they would if you could still order a naturally aspirated coupe. The DLS showed them that price was immaterial and that they could put as many zeros as they liked on a car and still have a queue. So it’s 7 figure Turbos now and they’re starting to feel a bit less cool driver’s car and more cars and coffee collectible. RUF are just doing what they’ve always done - focused on velocity rather than vanity and they now cost about the same as a Singer, but come with a carbon monocoque. I do well enough that I thought I might be able to save for a Singer in a year or two but now there’s just no way. Gorgeous, but just too much money for a 400 bhp trinket.
Absolutely love Singer as a company, obviously for the jewels they produce and more so for the workshop and team they're building. I wonder, when will they run out of porsches to rebuild? What will be the new jewel to restore? I think there is no other car that thrives more on the imagination of enthusiasts than Porsche.
I completely agree that these classics need saved, but I find it crazy that there are enough people with enough money to have them professionally restored. I'm considered in the top 5% in my city of 1.5 million, but I struggle to keep up with maintaining my 17yr old E90 and I do the work myself.
These are toys for the top 0.01% or fewer. They're for people who already have 10+ cars and who have a few hundred thousand just lying around doing nothing that they can fritter away on something extravagant. Singer cars are luxury goods built for people with lifestyles that regular people can't really comprehend.
usually guys who own these own 2RS, 3RS, CGT, turbos whatever else. more than enough money to even worry about maintenance costs on these cars. it’s why most of these cars are covered cause most customers are probably really private

As a fan of Porsches, I can honestly say that RUF and Singer Vehicle Design are the top Porsche recreators in history, even though I don't think that is the right word for it. It's like the Low Drag GT E-Type in many ways even though we all know that one company rebuilds classic cars from scratch with modern tech and the other remodels classic cars and give modern touches. In fact, imagine if RUF and SVD joined forces to create the ultimate 911!
@@jryalls Yeah. I was gonna say correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I see RUF doing. Yes, they are a manufacturer, but the thing is that it's not that they are not just building cars that look like classics but also bringing old designs back to life and up to date at least with modern tech with classic touches. That's what I see in my opinion.
This is cool on another level. I guess someone needs to live in the neighborhood and that's me this time. They are close to where I went to church for years. Cool place. Cool video. Way out of my league for cars and prices but what a cool factory tour. And they're hiring a lot of people locally, because great products need good hands to produce them. Pretty sure Ferdinand Porsche himself would be proud of the work going on here.
I wonder how long they can sustain this, I mean at that rate surely it won't be long until they start running out of original Porsches. Just make hay while the sun shines I guess.
Anyone that thinks these cars are overpriced, just needs to look at what is going into each build. These cars are basically hand rebuilt. This is beyond Rolls-Royce level work, and everyone working in there knows what they are doing, and being paid well for it.
They are hand built for better or wirse. The interiors are nice and the quality of the materials are top notch. But they also rattle and feel flimsy. The speed of my wipers can’t be adjusted because they can’t figure out the CAN bus. My car was on the road for three months, then the engine failed and was then shipped to the factory. They have rebuilt the engine which should arrive soon, but they don’t know why it failed. It’s a cool and fun car, but in no way a car you can live with as a daily or on a road trip. They are quite raw, and you will not believe how loud they are inside from wind, to tyres, to the engine. A 992 GT3 feels like a Rolls by comparison.
@@AB-80X that’s very interesting. Of course all the motor journalists that test it expound on how great a driver it is but they’re always kind of ripping around a track. In terms of appearance they are exquisite with beautiful details and finishing but it’s refreshing to hear an honest opinion of what they’re like as a daily driver. I would hope the blown engine is somewhat of an anomaly, but you would think with all the attention they give to the engines that would not be something that would happen.
@@cheemomugdoo799 There is a lot to like, and they are beautiful cars. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t regret my purchase. But I had hoped for a car that was easier to live with. I have an allocation for the new 930 tribute car, and according to Singer, that car will be more of a grand tour car. I have heard of others who had engine issues. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they chose to partner up with Porsche to have them build the engines from now on. My engine was eating itself, and with my own experiences of rebuilding and hod rodding air cooled Porsche engines, I’d say someone did a piss poor job of getting the tolerances right. The engine was still running when I found out, the oil told the story. What annoys me is that while the issue is more than likely quite obvious, I get the feeling that Singer does not like the idea of just accepting that someone messed up. It is getting done under warranty and from a customer service standpoint, Singer is wonderful to deal with. I just wish they would take ownership of this and tell it like it is. I don’t believe that they don’t know. I’m happy that the engine has now been rebuilt by Porsche, so that gives me more faith in the engine going forward. Sknger has gained a lot by moving location and getting more employees. The old shop was a mess and things took forever. My car was 7 years in the making…

nobody here understands anything, RUclips crap.....
Also a great line for a t-shirt or the chorus of a mediocre EDM song: Bushings, bearings, fasteners.
I agree, ha, ha, ha. Lets face it, its a suspension piece, cleaned really well, painted really well and then the magic bushings are installed the same way every bushing in the regular world is installed.
hhahahahahaha i thought he was using his hands :D
From modest beginnings, right? The craftmanship isn't the workshop, but in the hands of the master of craft.
Yes it was a mess. As a client I can concur that it has not always been easy to deal with Singer. Hopefully now the whole operation will be much more streamlined and proper. That said, Tim is and has always been amazing when it comes to customer support.
Never knew there was such a fan base for the 911. All these companies that restore them have something unique to bring.
Cheers..
Wow! Doesn’t get much better than one of those. The customer journey must be incredible, perhaps unparalleled in the automotive world.
These people are making drivable art 🔥🔥
With such a big customer base I really wonder why there are not lots more companies doing this with other brands .
There take a lot of time and a lot of hardwork, most people are not willing to do that!!
Except form doesn’t follow function. Function follows form at singer. Truly disgusting overhyped and ugly cars.
@@N911GT2 Not everyone has the same likes or dislikes. We all have our own opinions right? But there waiting list doesn't reflect your comment.
@@N911GT2 overhyped maybe, but ugly? How silly
The C4 Corvette ZR-1 should have this level of restoration. Great cars that deserve more than GM ever gave them.
I'm not sure about C4s, but the channel 'AutotopiaLA' features some mind blowingly good restomod American classics 🙂
This is crazy, love it
As a huge Catherine Wheel fan, I always loved when Chris introduced Rob as " a chap named Rob." 🙂
Wow and what a humble guy to listen to explain everything about the cars, too cool.
It would be fun if they started with 928 or 944/924, could be so gorgeous
Can you just imagine if Singer did a 928 GTS??? I’d send them mine
@@jordanmascarenhas7974 and a biiig bag with money
928 Strosek GTS is beautiful
Nardone has it covered. Their 928 is amazing.
300 hp fully kitted 924 in British Racing Green with random Sun yellow paint drips and runs. I think I just peed a little.
the various renditions of the gorgeous 911s prevent me from ever making any other car my favorite!!! if only i had been fortunate enough to own one...sadly i will never even get to ride in one much less drive one!! they are an amazing feat of engineering!!! i wish they were available to everyone!
Singer has distilled the mythology of Porche into singular objects that radiate purity. A feat Porche itself could only accomplish in spurts on this or that detail, but never to this level, in consummate fashion. The demand is never going to end. Well Done; Very Well Singer.
Agreed. I was just thinking how can i invest in this company!!!! These guys have the perfect recipe going.
They're certainly better at using bondo on new panels than Porsche! 🤦♂️
So how would you like your new Singer Sir?.... 1/4 bondo please!🙏 😆
Am I the only one thinking that this format is what modern top gear SHOULD’VE BEEN
This is not just next level. It's next next level!🤩 Work towards perfection is the only option here👌🏻👌🏻
It's all the levels!!!!
Have to watch it twice. Once for the whole Singer Porsche experience, because the first time trying to figure out if the rafter beams were actually wood. Even the factory is a masterpiece.
Loved this one (and all done without drifting and lighting the tyres up) 🙏
They "only" rebuilt 250 cars in 10 years?! 0:29 Like 25 cars a years?! How could they keep up with paying bills and stuff?! Amazing.
Their old shop was a mes and it took forever to get things done. My car was 7 years in the making.
Been a fan for years. They'd increase profits by at least 25% and would already have those shelves built by just leaving California.
Yes.. however SoCal is the epicenter of custom automotive culture of the West Coast, if not the entire US; and that's where creative people and the pool of talent is available.
If I win the lottery a singer will be the first thing on order 🤤
THIS is heaven for an automotive geek like me,n esp an admirer of ALL of Singer's masterpieces!even a cubic inch photo of Singer's work is soooo satisfying to watch...TG covered the entire facility, works, history, past, present n future,n almost everything i was yet to learn about Singer in a mere 12mins....You r indeed a maestro in the leagues of Singer n likes...
The attention to detail. Taping around screws just incase you slip off a screw. The quality of the leather, I would love to work there.
Amazing and inspiring. I had a dream like this for mk1 1300E escorts, as a kid 😀 I’d probably scale the body up in size a little, if I were to attempt that now though, but these are perfect!
I wish I had the ability to enjoy purchasing something like this. What a dream.
Being a current Porsche owner, this is the the absolute dream car for me!
_"... and on the seventh day God looked down from the heavens upon the masses of automotive mediocrity. None of what He saw pleased him; not Ferrari, Rolls Royce, not even a donkey.... so God stretched his arm down to Earth and touched the hand of Rob Dickinson. Alas, Singer Vehicle Design was born.”_
The Singer 911 is a masterpiece at the level of Michelangelo's Pieta.
Agreed. It’s ridiculous and pompous
RUF over a Singer for me as well.
Agreed, RUF SCR all the way. Singers are amazing but now just a billionaire’s jewellery to sit in their showroom/garage.
what do RUF versions ballpark cost?
What I love about the 911 culture is the acceptance of customization. Even the purists love a hot rod 911
Fantastic to see the evolution of Singer and their beautiful creations but I keep thinking Porsche missed a huge business opportunity
This place will be a dream for a mechanic.
Well done Singer! Amazing cars.
And the bondo salesman's dream! 🤣
They’re hiring too!
I knew Singer before this video, but I was shocked when their DLS got featured in Forza Horizon 4. Obviously I won it and raced it.
I When Back A Few Seconds To Hear The Start Up😍😊... Enjoying From The Caribbean 🇻🇨
If I were rich I'd definitely have a Singer.
With well over 40000 964's built, I think they will be okay. And now they also offer a Cab.
And thats as close as I’ll ever get to one a those! Thanx TG.
Just so wonderful to see real craftsmen/women being given the time and materials to make the very best that is possible. It explains the cost totally.
It's awesome Chris Harris worked as part of the development team for the Singer DLS, had no idea until they released his review of it. Amazing stuff
Singer is setting a really good standard on how a restored Porsche should be..
Good job. It would have been nice to hear some of the workers talk about what they do. Maybe in another video?
I liked the tour. Maz and the guys at Singer are really doing some beautiful work.
Works of art. I love you, Singer.
Stunning. Dream cars and it's kinda great to know that people holding on to these gems
Classic, Turbo, DLS. What's next?! 914 baby!!!
I used to have a 76' 914/4 back in the 90's. I loved it. Unfortunately it caught fire.
Singer produces the best Porsches ever made. If I was a younger man I would order one. Nice video.
Im young order one for me 😊
Ollie, you are killing it.
And I am back to enjoying Top Gear again.
Keep up the great work!
To be fair. When Top Gear shows up and asks for a tour, you accept 😂
@@vyrnmn agreed. It still baffles me that there are enough .01% with an old car itch to keep them so busy. 2027 at the earliest! I'm jealous and slightly pissed that the world is so top heavy financially.
@@kevindavis8143 a lot of them see the cars as investments. fair bet that a singer will increase in value tremendously. curious thing -- money tends to make even more money.

Wow, just wow.....such beautiful cars. That dark blue though 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤘
This video should of been half hour long. For me the greatest car ever rebuilt is the singer DLS😍👌🏾. My 2nd favourite car ever built might be the Turbo when we see that being driven.
This Porsche is simply futuristic enough to be categorized as amazing.
RUF 🇩🇪
Singer 🇺🇲

Gunther 🇺🇲
Fantastic 4 😎
Both cars and the factory are a work of art!. Great stuff Top Gear. Really top quality content recently..
RUF don’t rebuild classic cars from scratch. They’re a manufacturer, the build cars that look like classic Porsche’s.
Porsche should sponsor the build of an all electric retro build, combining their new electric technology installed on a vintage chassis.
It's crazy to watch this right after watching Chris Harris visiting their shop 10 years ago...
I saw one of these cars at Goodwood Festival of Speed. It was truly beautiful 😍
I’m just unhappy at how far the 964 market has skyrocketed because of these “restorations” now it’s impossible to find original cars
Anyone that thinks these cars are overpriced, just needs to look at what is going into each build. These cars are basically hand rebuilt. This is beyond Rolls-Royce level work, and everyone working in there knows what they are doing, and being paid well for it.
As a Singer owner, I will tell you that you are quite wrong. They are not as perfect as you might think.
@@AB-80X please expand on that!
@@cheemomugdoo799
There is a lot to like, and they are beautiful cars.

I love porches, just the style you know so good.
I love the pace the craftsmen are working at. Very deliberate, to say the least. And I also like that the Singer CEO calls customers customers and not "client" or "partners" or other pretentious euphemism.
I'm a singer owner, and I'm referred to as a client by Singer. We very much are in fact. In short, one does not replace the other. Ferrari also refers to their buyers as customers when talking about buying cars. When you as an owner interact with the company, you are a client.
You have to question the mental aquity of those running a company choosing to run a business in the state of California.
