As it’s God’s love and mercy in a way of purifying the souls from any kind of blemish or attachment, also provided they did not die in unconfessed mortal sin, but yet has reparations or atonement for their sins to be made. Those who can pursue sainthood on earth, God can have the soul in his presence immediately after death provided he lived in total subjection to God’s law and in perfect submission 🙏✝️❤️

Purgatory ties everything in and makes sense of everything. And the explanation of Purgatory is clear in the Bible. (You will suffer loss and be saved but ONLY as thru FIRE 🔥). Purgatory is the burning love of Jesus christ for us and we will be purified by him, hence Purgatory. It's a wonderful mercy by our Lord, God is GOOD ❤️‍🔥.

    • @clivejames5058
      @clivejames5058 Месяц назад +2

If it makes sense to you then please explain:
      1) God is omnipotent but has to wait for humans to pray to release already saved souls into heaven?
      2. Whilst purification of our works is to take place at the Last Judgement (1 Cor 3:13), it's not talking about what happens to people dying today, yesterday, 100 years ago. Scripture does not posit that payment is required even though God has forgiven sins. Within Scripture's theological paradigm there is either forgiveness or punishment, not both (which is what purgatory is).
3). Purgatory was a useful concept, in the medieval period, for indulgences. Making money in other words. Not a good look when you come face-to-face with Christ, again on that Day of Judgement (1 Cor 3:13-15)

“It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.”
    -2 Machabees 12:46

    • @everttonterra2572
      @everttonterra2572 3 месяца назад +10

I am convinced that there is NOTHING in the Bible that gives the slightest support to the doctrine of purgatory, and I believe that there is a big problem with this interpretation of Maccabees.
There is no law that instructs prayer for the dead or mentions its effectiveness, this practice does not come from the law of Moses or any of the prophets, therefore, it is an acquired practice.
There is strong evidence that, by adopting practices foreign to Judaism, the writer of Maccabees (Jason of Cyrene or a later scribe) misunderstood Judah Maccabee's intent. Judah was probably trying to fulfill the ordinance described in Leviticus 4:13-14 "13 And if the whole congregation of Israel err, and the thing be hid from the eyes of the assembly, and they have done any of the things which Jehovah hath commanded not to be done, and are guilty; 14 when the sin wherein they have sinned is known, then the assembly shall offer a young bullock for a sin-offering, and bring it before the tent of meeting."
The previous verses of 2 Maccabees also make no mention of an intermediate state, in fact it is clear that the author's understanding was that the sacrifice would be of the same nature as the sacrifices offered by the living, being sacrifices for the remission of sins so that they were justified on the Day of Judgment, in the resurrection of the dead.
If this is the best verse to defend purgatory, the Catholic Church is in big trouble.

According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

@@adude849 This interpretation did not come from me, I saw it in another video while researching the subject, and by far it is the one that seems most coherent to me, as it respects the context of the Old Testament and the chapter itself. One of the most prevalent patterns in the Old Testament is that of God calling Israel to sanctify itself, but Israel repeatedly surrenders to the customs of other nations and worships their gods, Israel has always corrupted itself (read Ezekiel 16, Hosea 2, Hosea 11).
1 Timothy 3 does not prove the infallibility of the magisterium, in fact it proves the opposite, since the chapter itself is dedicated to guiding the behavior of those who serve as caregivers for other Christians. If they were infallible there would be no need for instructions. Verse 15 does not indicate supernatural infallibility, it indicates the church's responsibility to be blameless. And the history of the Catholic Church itself would disqualify it as infallible, given that it once had as its top leaders people that today it would recognize as antichrists, the antipopes.
2 Peter 1:20-21 does not condemn the reading and interpretation of the Bible. Just read the verses to understand that in them Peter teaches that even though he is a witness to Jesus, the Prophets are an even more powerful testimony, since the Prophets did not speak things that came from their own minds, but rather things that God gave them to speak. .
These are just a few of many other passages in the Bible that the Catholic Church and other Christian leaders completely take out of context in order to discourage lay people from questioning their authority.
May God bless us and always guide us to the truth.

He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.
47 “The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

      1 Corinthians 3:10-15.
Well first of all what is purgatory in accord with catechism?
Is it the final purification of the elect right?
Then why are you referring to this scripture when all it talks about was testing & judging one man's work. ? Ooo because the catechism has butcher this scripture to forcefully support its self proclaim purgatory doctrine.
      Is purgatory for purification
      Or
Is purgatory for testing and judging a man's work. ?
For me to go by the catechism it is the purification. Not the testing.
You see how you misquoted the scriptures because from the first place itself catechism forcefully used scriptures out of context just to try and support its doctrine.
When we clearly see the wrongs that the catechism has misquoted This scripture and has interpreted it out of context shows that purgatory is a false doctrine.

I hear ya about the hustle and bustle of life but people have much harsher problems. Some people pray for that to be their worst problem. Cheer up ❤ you seem like you have opportunity to change whatever situation you are in but remember...there is no physical solution to a spiritual problem. I've been to work & had bad days & had great days... what I've noticed is, that most of it comes down to my perspective and overall attitude. Look inward to fix your problems and the outside hell we live, doesn't stand a chance. Take care of your spirit as this is what god is interested the most. You will benefit from it as well, no matter what you are going through. Hope this helps buddy ✌

Indeed. Interesting point though that I’ve heard made is that God, being supernatural, isn’t bound by the effects of linear time. Perfect example being Christ’s atonement, in that His sacrifice was efficacious for saints not merely in the present, but in the past and future as well. A supernatural moment that permeated all of time.
In the same way, (not to put prayer on the same level as Jesus’ sacrifice) if time is no longer linear when we die, I’d like to think it’s possible God could hear the past, present, and future prayers of the saints for someone who is currently sick, dying, or directly standing before God. Which if that were true, prayer for someone who has already passed could still be effectual. It’s one of the reasons I still pray for those who’ve died. You never know.

A lot of people don’t understand what purgatory is. If you really read about it from Catholic sources only and learn what the church really teaches on it, it’s extremely fascinating. I have a special devotion to the souls in purgatory. It makes me sad that so many disregard and won’t take the time to investigate.
In a nutshell, yes, Christ died for our sins! But you still deserve a punishment for your sins.
It’s like this. Say you’re playing baseball right outside of Jesus’ house. You send a baseball through his window and break it. He comes out and you are so sorry for what you’ve done. He forgives you… but says you still have to fix this window. That’s purgatory. You are forgiven but you still have to fix your mistake. It’s a spiritual concept that we can’t grasp here but it is real and it’s good to take heed because you can fix the broken window while on earth by doing penance instead of sitting in purgatory which is a slower and more arduous way to do penance 👍🏻

Love you Mari, Now our/ my / Catholic Faith teaches that any attachments to Sin that one's soul has not conquered in this life, must be purged from us before being allowed to proceed to the beatific vision. In this both God’s will and ours say yes and amen....for without holiness no man shall see the Lord. What Purgatory is Not is a place of punishment. However we pray for the dead because sin seperates us from God, and Jesus said with the exception of Blaspheming the Holy Spirit, that sin can be forgiven not only in this life but also in the life to come. /Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. / 1 Corinthians 3:15 mean?

In Matt5:26, Christ, in condemning sin, speaks of liberation only after expiation. "Thou shalt not go out from thence till thou repay the last farthing." In Matt. 12:32, He speaks of sin which "shall not be forgiven either in this world or in the world to come." Any remission of the effects of sin in the next world can refer only to purgatory. Above all St. Paul tells us that the day of judgment will try each man's work. That day is after death, when the soul goes to meet its God. What is the result of that judgment? If a man's work will not stand the test St. Paul says that "he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire." 1 Cor3:15. This cannot refer to eternal loss in hell, for no one is saved there. Nor can it refer to heaven, for there is no suffering in heaven. Purgatory alone can explain this text As a matter of fact, all Christians believed in purgatory until the Reformation, when the reformers began their rejection of Christian doctrines at will. Prayer for the dead was ever the prevailing custom, in accordance with the recommendation of the Bible itself. "It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from their sins." 2 Maccabees 12:46. Prayer for the dead supposes a soul not in heaven where it does not need the help of prayer, nor in hell where prayer cannot assist it. Some intermediate state of purification and need, where prayer can help, is necessary. And the doctrine is most reasonable. "Nothing defiled shall enter heaven." Rev21:27. Yet not all defilement should cost man the loss of his soul. Even in this life human justice does not inflict capital punishment for every crime. Small offenses are punished by fines or by temporary imprisonment, after which the delinquent is liberated. Those who deny purgatory teach the harder and more unreasonable doctrine.

We are the living church, means we all can experience God and His Miracles. Bible is a great compass, but it's not whole reality we face every day. If one is limited to the fact "everything is in Bible" - this is a false statement - everything is in God and the Bible is a guide, just a limited book. When I first started changing over to Eastern orthodoxy, I began to learn that praying for the dead, and the positive effects that those prayers can have, was rooted in over 1500 years of Christianity and that rejection to the notion was a modern one. When I found out I could pray for the departed, I started writing down all the names I could think of. A month ago I added my beloved dad's name to that list and pray for him daily. Anyway, we can try to spend our lives knowing the unknowable, but at the end of the day, we must know that God loves us and that Christ made it possible for us to enter the kingdom of heaven.

First of all, the God is the most Holy and we before stand face to face with God have to be Holy too. This requires us to be clean and saint. The problem this bishop has - he disregards all Christian tradition and saints who have experienced the purgatory. I'm not a saint myself, but once I had a dream where many hours I was wandering around hills looking for the way out with other people, then we saw some people like trapped in the swamps I realized they were dead. At the end of the dream we were in the small church where there was a mass for the dead. And then, at the end of the dream I heard a terrible moan of suffering, like a woman's, but the moans were out of this world. They weren't terrible for me, but they evoked a lot of sympathy. Since then, I have been trying to pray small part of rosary for the souls of the departed every day. Don't reject the Christian tradition like Protestants. Revelation is in the Bible, in Christ, but also in the lives of saints. The Bible itself is not the whole of revelation and does not reveal all the reality that is hidden from us.

I haven't fully studied the deuterocanonical books, but from my knowledge the realm of the dead (Sheol), was a resting place for all dead, divided by a place of punishment and peace. This is the death Jesus concurred, which made him the judge of the living and the dead. It seems entirely likely to me that this place is where the concept of "purgatory" emerged from. However, now that Jesus has concurred death and preached to those in Sheol, it's debatable where we go after death. The Catholic Church teaches that purgatory is a state of the soul, not exactly a place, but it can happen somewhere, it can be here on earth or when you die, to purify yourself before entering heaven, because nothing impure can enter there, and there are many indications about this in the Bible. Psalm 66:12, Isaiah 4:4, Micah 7:9, Malachi 3:3, Matthew 5:22, Matthew 5:26, Matthew 12:32, 1 Corinthians 3:11-15, Revelation 21:27.
Pope Benedict XVI said "Purgatory is like a purifying fire burning inside a person, a painful experience of regret for one's sins".

purgatory is a state of the soul, not exactly a place, but it can happen somewhere, it can be here on earth or when you die, to purify yourself before entering heaven, because nothing impure can enter there,
Now look at what you and assuming the CCC 1031 is accurate
when you die, to purify yourself before entering heaven, because nothing impure can enter there,
So in this sentence is the biggest lie possible for any belief in purgatory
There is not one verse anywhere in 73 books of the bible that says You the individual can clean up your sins or your feelings or cleanse your soul in any way !
It is Jesus who has atoned for all of our sins ,
It is Jesus who has died for All of our sins
and if we do sin It is Jesus who maintains our righteousness before God. 1 John 2:1,2 1 John 1:9 Titus 3:5
There is nothing we can do to make ourselves clean when it is Jesus who has cleaned us up already as believers 1 Cor 6:11 We are sanctified , washed , and justified through Christ, never through us.

I became Orthodox Christian 6 years ago and unfortunately I had retired my service dog and I was in the process of getting another service dog my question to you father is why is it I understand separation of church and state grants all houses of worship the ability to refuse service dogs where is anywhere else they would have to accommodate a service dog that is not emotional support not therapy or an Esa but our actual service dog. I have my new service dog is medical equipment and although I finally thought I found a church that's Orthodox Church to come to they had a double standard while people with a oxygen machine or a wheelchair crutches or a walk or a welcome to sit anywhere I had to be sat out of sight out of mind. The excuse was from the priest that they didn't want any disruption or anybody being not focused in church because it could be a distraction to have a service dog there I said you have the power and the authority to explain to everybody that my service dog is a service dog not to distract him and to give us space you could do that but instead you're choosing to ostracize me yet claim to welcome me into the Orthodox church but I have to go by your rules of sitting in the back next to a pillar where I cannot hear I cannot see what's going on in the church or here because of my one condition Wichita Falls have surgery for Meniere's disease and that it is because you don't want any distractions but wait a second you also want to add in that I shouldn't be coming and attending your coffee hour but you want ties from me to the church but at the same time you're telling me not to after church services go and meet with other parishioners but to just go home. That sense of your alarm goes off in my head that not only is it just spiteful of what we want to welcome you but we don't want to tell you to leave your service dog at home but at the same time if you do bring your service up we need to give you double standards that we wouldn't put on people with a wheelchair or oxygen machine because we don't want people being distracted I've been in church I've been distracted by the sounds of obnoxious oxygen machines and I've never said leave her oxygen machine at home or ask the Prairies to tell him to leave her oxygen machine at home. So how is this any different it seems to be a double standard you want my ties to the church you want to let me worship and receive communion after everyone else receives communion but at the same time you don't want people to be aware I'm even in the chair and to me that's saying you don't want me being part of the parish and partaking in Paris activities because you're afraid of what might happen and I'm kind of like these people we'll see service dogs in their lifetime outside of the church and this is no different than me going to an ER or a ENT or a dentist or anywhere else to a wedding whatever. However telling me I can come to church but I got to stay in the back and then leave after is telling me that I'm walking through those doors but I'm not welcome to become part of the parish I'm not welcome to mingle with a parish and get to know the people in do perish because what it will distract them from church house that after after Church's services are over how is that distracting after Church's services are over if people want to mingle with me and you're telling me don't mingle with anybody go home and don't even go to the coffee hour. I don't feel then that I have a place in that church even though it's north of Knox church and they claim to go by Orthodox teachings and the biblical teachings because I feel like I'm being shunned to the back like Rosa Parks that have a right to be there but at the same time I don't have the right to be included because I require a different form of medical equipment that is not an oxygen machine or a wheelchair. I'd like to know where the Orthodox Church gets off saying that they're welcoming to people with service dogs but then literally not including them instead putting them to the side out of sight out of mind just to go to workshop and then telling them that they have to wait till everyone and you have to come up later to receive your community it's degrading and humiliating why am I even part of the Orthodox Faith then I thought the Orthodox faced it for something better than how I'm being treated this was not how I was raised to treat other people but if that is how the Orthodox faith in the churches are going to treat people require a medical alert service animal I need to look to go to a different church and yeah I don't want to but whatever choices of Orthodox Church giving me.

Roman Catholic Christians who believe in purgatory interpret passages such as 2 Timothy 1:18, Matthew 12:32, Luke 23:43, 1 Corinthians 3:11-3:15 and Hebrews 12:29 as support for prayer for purgatorial souls who are believed to be within an active interim state for the dead undergoing purifying flames (which could be interpreted as an analogy or allegory) after death until purification allows admittance into heaven.

      I beg to differ.
Purgatory and hades are not same.
Hades is separation from YHWH, even prophets resided in Hades.
Purgatory is different. It's for any believer who dies with an unrepentant sin. Say some may think slavery is good and exploited them worst. This is why it's necessary to search for God and ask for conviction.
The example of theif being with Jrsus in paradise was his confession infront of everyone. Bit many Christians couldn't even realise if they did right or wrong according to the era's social norms.
May they did 10 things right , repented for 85 things done wrong but couldn't fathom the 5 things they though right was actually wrong.😢

      @@akankshae There is no purgatory.

Same as when I was young the Catholic church stated babies who died without being baptised went to Limbo forever and could not go to heaven but also could not go to hell. Complete fantasy by the Catholic Church to control everyone.
God/Jesus want us to come to them because we love them not because we fear the alternative which is what most churches/religions preach.
      God/Jesus preached LOVE not FEAR.
Yes, we must fear evil because we are sinners and can be easily led astray if we drop our guard but we must have love in our hearts not fear.
Remember we must choose God/Jesus using our own free will.
If you do something based on fear that is NOT free will.
Social norms have nothing to do with right/wrong.
God/Jesus have told us what is right and wrong and told us to be no part of this world meaning ignore social norms etc as they are of this world (controlled by Satan) not of Gods world.
If you have studied the bible you KNOW what is right/wrong as there are no grey areas where we must decide if it is good/bad.
It is clearly spelt out in the Bible as it is our reference point.
If you follow social norms that contradict the Bible you sin.
As Jesus said "Give Ceasar what belongs to Ceasar" but "Give to God what belongs to God". Any law on Earth is to be obeyed except where it contradicts Gods laws, same with lifestyle choices etc.

And if you are a KJV person you may want to check out 2Macc 12:44-46. You did know the original KJV did have this and the other books the Catholic bible has, yes?
Now of course here is where most will try to point out that the above verses are not to be translated the way Catholics are meaning for them to be translated, which is where we say, fine, then you should get your own book. After all, the Bible is a Catholic book.
History shows us that Jesus didn't leave us a bible, the apostles didn't tell us which books belong in the bible, the church fathers never agreed on the 27 books of the NT through the 4th century, not only did they not agree but their individual lists of would-be NT canons were GROWING during this time, growing in numbers of hundreds of “inspired” NT writings. So, if it wasn't the Catholic/Orthodox church that compiled the 27 books of the NT in the 5th century with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and preserved it by laboriously hand copying them over and over throughout the centuries before the invention of the printing press, the “rule of faith” for many, please tell us, show us, who did? And if this church no longer exists today, what good is the text which came forth from her if she couldn't sustain herself?

In traditional Christian theology, the concept of Purgatory is based more on interpretation and inference from various biblical passages rather than a single verse that explicitly mentions Purgatory. One of the key passages often cited in discussions about Purgatory is 1 Corinthians 3:11-15, which mentions a sort of purifying fire:
"For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw- each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire." (1 Corinthians 3:11-15, ESV)
This passage is often interpreted as referring to a purification process after death for those believers whose works are not yet perfect. While this passage doesn't explicitly mention Purgatory, it is one of the biblical texts that has been used to support the idea.

the Catholic church used charge people to pray their relatives out of purgatory, also they used to sell prayers on peices of paper, in rome where my relatives are from the catholic church sells idols for money, Ofcourse no church is wonderful or preaches the same message or has the exact same beliefs and much of what they teach cannot be found in the bible its s doctrine of men.
purgatory is not where sinners go after death, we all sleep (wait in our graves) waiting for His return, the bible calls it a sleep , many times.

The Orthodox certainly believe that our Lord is faithful and just to cleanse us [purge] us from sin through the process of our our conversion and sanctification . Purgation or Purgatory is a state of being and a lot of people are in it while they are in their mortal body upon earth. The question is raised for those who have died with their process of purgation incomplete. We are to be perfect as our Father in Heaven in perfect. For most of us, much is left to be desired along these lines. No one wants to believe that their prayers for our Lord's mercy are unavailing. The Bible calls this 'washing in the blood of the Lamb'. Those who St John the Revelator sees in Heaven have 'washed in the blood of the Lamb'.

It's like a filtration system with its overall goal being to purify our souls 100% The reason why we must go through this process is quite simple to explain.....ALL OF LIFE IS DEPENDENT UPON IT. Its the nature of god. When we stop thinking so physical (selfish) and start thinking spiritually, much more will make sense. I love your comment bud. Keep preaching it. It helps people who struggle ♥

Your wisdom is astonishing. I would require such guidance and wisdom from this orthodox bishop my brother or sister. The God is the Most Holy and just. Therefore everyone who will stand before Him needs to be clean and purged. If suffering for our sins in this life is not enough then we need to be purged if we will find worthy to be purged and therefore stand with God face to face, the most Holy clean and just. That's indeed the mercy and genious plan of God.

That’s what Jesus blood sacrifice was for, to forgive us of all our sins before we die and go to heaven. I have never heard of sins forgiven after we’re dead like you said, please show me that Bible verse? There’s nothing in the Bible about purification in the afterlife after we are dead. If you’re just going by common sense, it does not work that way, making things up.

@@marioloncar2169 The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines purgatory as a “purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven,” which is experienced by those “who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified” (CCC 1030). It notes that “this final purification of the elect . . . is entirely different from the punishment of the damned” (CCC 1031).
The purification is necessary because, as Scripture teaches, nothing unclean will enter the presence of God in heaven (Rev. 21:27) and, while we may die with our mortal sins forgiven, there can still be many impurities in us, specifically venial sins and the temporal punishment due to sins already forgiven.

Dear Bishop Mar Mari I really admire your zeal and witness for our Lord Jesus Christ but on this topic I believe that the Catholic doctrine on Purgatory is the correct one. Purgatory is implied in Holy Scripture, just as the Holy Trinity is implied and not directly stated in Holy Scripture. Please check out - 2 Timothy 1:18, Matthew 12:32, Luke 23:43, 1 Corinthians 3:11-3:15 and Hebrews 12:29 as support for prayer for purgatorial souls who are believed to be within an active interim state for the dead undergoing purifying flames. The Jewish faith also prays for the dead, if the destination choice for souls was only Heaven or Hell then there is no point in praying for the dead. It makes sense that such a place exists. Scripture states that nothing impure can enter heaven. It also states that a just man sins 7 times a day. Purification is needed to remove the stains of attachments that we have not relinquished before we died. There have been many mystics and saints over the last millennia who have been shown Heaven, Hell and Purgatory and reported on these three places. There are many books based on saints who have witnessed purgatory. Purgatory is not fiction but a real place of purification. I think it was Our Lady at Fatima who stated that the largest number of souls at death go initially to Purgatory, the next biggest number go to Hell and but a small number of souls go directly to heaven. It certainly is worth thinking about.

When u realize, that the dead don't go right now in heaven or hell but in hades waiting for the judgment, u will understand why the prayers of the living for them have meaning and offer great help to them until the day of judgment.
