      @reformedcatholic457 День назад +2

@leslieniiattohjnr8483 They did have a Bible of some sort but divided, that's what the fathers quoted to defend the faith. This is the beauty of it, even when the Canon wasn't compiled Scripture was still used as the Word of God to defend the faith.

@@reformedcatholic457 They never had a Bible of any sort! The only scripture they held onto without doubt was the Old Testament, the books written by the Apostles were scattered and in circulation and there were many disputes about which book was inspired by GOD or valid. The Bible didn't exist until the Council of Hippo and Carthage. The only scripture available was the Old Scripture, which was already accepted because they (the early Christians) were Jews and the Old Testament was already part of their tradition and faith. The apostles wrote the books/letters/accounts of Christ around 20 years after Christ died, so what were they reading to the Church when they celebrated the Eucharist? I believe your heart is in the right place, read about the very early Church fathers such as ST. Polycarp, Ignatius of Antioch, and most notably Justin Martyr; who gave a description of how the early Christians worshipped. You realize none of the very early fathers quoted Scriptures but they passed on teachings they had received orally. Also read about the Didache! it's a very important document.

I came to Christ on my own when I was 18. Prior to that I wasn't even familiar with the concept "Protestant" until I started interacting with Catholics who called me such. The safest structure for a church to follow would be what was laid out by Paul the apostle. The thing is we all see different miracles, have different anointings, and are ordered to do different things. Because of this, in my opinion at least, we try to think we can thus map out God or His plan so we get different groups. There are somethings we have to admit that we do not know. We know for sure however that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, He died, He rose after three days, and was born of a virgin.
What Martin Luther did was something that needed to be done. A church has no right to tell people that money will buy their way out of hell and into Heaven (indulgence). This is expressed in several places throughout the Bible and even caused Jesus Christ to physically beat people up who were money changing in the Temple.

The Catholic Church wrote the NT. Decided the canon of the Bible and copied it by hand for centuries
You obviously don’t know what an indulgence is. It’s giving of alms. Scripture says love covers a multitude of sins
Luther was right to complain about church leadership But when he broke away and started making up doctrine and taking out books in the Bible satan had won. The fruit of Protestantism is division and confusion

Satan had already got your leadership under his foot. But they teach you that your big bad enemy is the protestants for some reason. Not satanism, not occultism, not elite bloodlines, but those evil non-catholics over the horizon. The amount of lowliness I've seen from some of fanatical papist is down right reprehensible. @@SimplePerson-zq9tjWell brother, that thief paid a very very big price and he was saved because God needed to show us that if you repent and believe it is possible to be saved no matter what you did. But don't forget that the thief paid with his life. He lost his life, but gained salvation of his sould. Are we that lucky? Or we try to sin, and then be greedy and ask God not to punish us because we are sorry? If you were offered to be crucified right now and leave everything and everyone here including your loved ones, dying in one of the most agonising death that a man can experience, but knowing your soul will be saved, would you do it?
People don't understand, that it varies from situation to situation. Take the resurrection of Lazarus for example. Why just God doesn't ressurect our loved ones like he did ressurect Lazarus? Because Lazarus was resurrected for God's glory and power over death to be shown, and also to prophecy the resurrection of Christ Himself. So, the salvation of the thief also was with a reason and was in a specific time. I am afraid we have to work a little bit, we aren't that lucky to be resurrected/saved without moving a finger. Jesus says, I was hungry and you feed me, I was thirsty and you gave me to drink, I was naked and you gave me clothes, I was in jail and you visited me... Jesus says that those people who did all of these things will be saved. For the others, He will tell them to depart from Him because He never knew them.

You can see first by the way he confuses the Pope Leo's, and the way he says there were 97thesis when they were 95, Luther didn't know orthodoxy, which is not true, saying Luther's teaching were Orthodox and yet Orthodox do not believe in consubstantiation but transubstatiation, two very different doctrines on the Eucharist. Martin Luther promoted Sola Scriptura and yet Orthodox accepts tradition etc.

@@Bobbel888 yes he said about 97 theses and that very clearly indicates the inadequate research he has on church history.
Well. For the Eucharist, The Bishop mentioned that if Luther knew about Orthodoxy, he wouldn't have formed the protestantism and would have joined Orthodox Church because what he preached was Orthodox and no difference. To which I say. The Bishop is wrong here because some of the doctrines Luther preached were totally different from Orthodox. I then pointed the example of the Eucharist. Luther does not believe that the bread changes substance to the body of Christ, instead he believes the body of Christ is present together with the bread. This is not a minor difference , it is at the core of the two denominations . So the Bishop is wrong.
Secondly to say Luther didn't know about Orthodoxy was simply not true. First of all Luther , a trained priest, cannot be ignorant of Orthodoxy , as one of the courses studied in the formation of seminarians is world religions and they also study the great schism.

-God so loved the world that all who believed may not perish, but have eternal life.
-This is the work of God, that you believe in His Son he has sent.
-He who believes but doesn't keep my word, I do not judge, but the one who rejects my word will be judged.
-Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
-Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.
-Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.
-Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.
There's 10 or so of these in the gospel of John. Note that believes is the same word as faith, it's like Greek has a verb "he faiths, I faith, you faith", etc. It's rendered believe in English. Whoever believes, whoever believes, whoever believes. No qualification. And yet you guys still think after an entire lifetime of faith, you get judged and end up in purgatory, it's absurd.
      Or Romans 3:
But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it- the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith.
      Romans 4:
And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:
“Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,
      and whose sins are covered;
blessed is the man against whom the Lord *will not* count his sin.” - note the future tense.
      Then Ephesians 2:
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Nope. Romans 9 is talking about the fact that those who follow God would live lives characterized by faithfully putting their trust in him. God has laid THE FRAMEWORK for what it means to serve Him in the beginning, however the individual remains free to serve Him.
There would be no struggle to follow Jesus if you as an individual had unmerited disfavor (destined for hell in the very beginning). Again, the concept of unmerited disfavor is a concept Calvin borrowed from St Augustine who borrowed it from popular Latin Roman tradition, it's not Biblical at all.
Augustine's book City of God is just an allegory akin to Pilgrim's Progress, a primer for his beliefs on Christianity.

How does one verse Romans 1:17 ? Try to understand why Paul was writing to the Church in Rome, a church that he did not establish? Writing around AD55-60, Rome was largely pagan; early Christians were being persecuted. In AD64, Nero martyred Christians, accusing them of starting the great fire. Rome persecuted Christians until the Edit of Milan in AD 318 when Christianity became a legal religion, with all the others, and persecution stopped.
Sola Scriptura developed as a response to refute that the Church was the custodian and authority of Truth of Sacred Scriptures.
Any one could read and interpret - Martin Luther’s revolt against Pope Leo X.

      @dimitrisleo 8 дней назад

@christopherton The gospels and letters are 1st century documents.
Sola scriptura is a very simple and powerful way to be sure you are correct. It doesn't mean we only follow the bible. It means if something contradicts the bible, we choose the bible over tradition, over miracles, over everything else.
Can you add things if they don't contradict the scriptures? Of course. But if your additions contradict the bible, they are invalid.
This is why all the main issues with denominations are things that are not clear in the bible.
Can we pray to saints? The bible says we only have one mediator, but the bible also says we will become co-heirs to the throne with Christ, so by grace the saints could have already become that. The same goes for Mary.
Christian doctrinee differences are very difficult to solve, and there's a reason people disagree.
My personal thesis: I love Christ with all my heart and soul and mind, I ask to be saved, and I already apologize for any doctrinal mistakes I might do out of ignorance.
I like praying the rosary. Do I make a mistake in doing that? I am not sure. But if I am, I apologize about that and since it's done by faith, it's not counted as a sin.

The differences usually stem from how people like to practice their faith, or as simple as each small church having a different founder. 90% of them could be joined into one whole church. But the nature of Protestantism is a personal, deep relationship with Jesus, of which everyones experience is different. He was pursued as a criminal the rest of his life and hid disguising himself.

As humans are imperfect, no "branch" is really correct, the only correct branch is to follow Jesus and the Bible. We can identify with a certain denomination, but in the end we should acknowledge the truth that we can't always be perfect in knowledge and wisdom, and the only truth is in faith in Jesus.
We can call out denominations for their mistakes, but we should always acknowledge that there are faithfull believers, even in churches that are very broken.

America has more Protestant denominations than other nations because when the Revolutionary War against England occurred, 80% of the Anglican priests went back to England because King George was their pope, and the priests vows were to their king. The people were left without the Holy Eucharist until after the War of 1812. The Church was one indeed, paved by the seven Holy World Councils. In 1054 the west was anathematized by the Church because they changed the faith by adding to the nicene creed! Since the truth ultimately cannot be changed. They added fillioque and after they were anathematized they invented crazy doctrines like indulgences, papal infallabillity, and more so, they used the name of the Lord for control and this is why the dark ages came. More so! Peter is the rock which is Christ. He is the cornerstone. Christ appointed His 12, not just Peter. All Bishops were first among equals. All patriarchs are first among equals. And now some of them are snakes and this is why Christ will strike them very soon if they do not repent. Because they keep the Children of Israel as slaves. Just as the pope of Rome! They are the great harlot that fornicate against God and His Church that was, is and always will be only one.

The architecture with pagan symbols or Masonic things like at the Vatican the buildings representing male and female sexual organs. Their telescope named. L.u.c.i.f.e.r.
The idea their leader is infallible, then changing the Ten Commandments .
I grew up as a Catholic and I found zero extra knowledge , my relationship with God was always intimate outside of catholic rituals or traditions, and it only grew when I saw a church online that read verse by verse the whole bible.
      Athey creek.

The last point about every denomination thinks they are right is incorrect. In Protestantism, we have primary core Christian values, what we differ are mostly the ritualistic interpretation of the Bible. For example, we all still believe in the principle of Trinity, we believe Jesus' Godhood, we believe that the crucifixion resurrection did happened, we believe salvation through faith and faith alone, we believe in the power of Jesus name... What we differ in could be, how we conduct our worship (some churches allow band and many other instruments, some only piano), how we structure the leader of our church, how we interpret our free will and God's sovereignty... You get the idea.
In short, every major denomination still shares the common core value of Christianity. Those that don't are regarded as heresy, like JW, Scientology and so on. The ritualistic part is the part how we run our church. So even within Protestantism, we still have core Christian values that cannot be changed or be interpreted differently, and that's how we know which is heresy, which isn't

The physical church, regardless of which denomination, is merely a place of worship.
The real being one with the body of Christ is through the words of God (Bible) and the presence of the Holy Spirit.
I'm sure you can agree with me that there have been some heinous actions done by church leaders before even tho some of them probably still considered the member of the church, if they have not repented, they would not be counted as being one with the body of Christ.

He knows the choices we will make but he doesn't brand someone reprobate/elect at the foundation of the world or in our mothers' wombs. A reprobate would have no culpability for his/her actions here on earth if God predetermined that person to be a reprobate before they even drew their first breath. We make that choice and it's arrogant for someone to say I was once saved and always saved. Then there's the other side of someone who heard of Christ then hears about Calvin's doctrine but is struggling in their sin and they say to themselves I must be that person who is a reprobate so once damned always damned. We die daily and try to follow a narrow path. God's grace is there to pick us up when we fall but it's arrogant to know if the state of our souls tomorrow would merit heaven.

Unfortunately from a Catholic perspective this was a Protestant revolution not a reformation. Now to be fair on Protestants the church def needed to reform.. and we as Catholics agree there was much needed to be weeded out, esp simony… Unfortunately what to remove and what to keep cannot be made manifest outside the church.
Anyone who has read the Bible and church history will show you.. truth cannot be made manifest apart from the visible body of Christ..
Where does truth lie and how is it established.. One thing is for sure truth is not established by who has the right interpretation of scripture… anyone who is sola scriptura which most Protestants are have to hold on to how the Bible establishes truth:
By the evidence of living witnesses:
Every time the gospel and authority comes into question both Christ and the apostles point to the living witnesses..
John the Baptist for Jesus. :
“There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.”
      ‭‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭6‬-‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬
James, John and Peter for Paul :
“This is the third time I am coming to you. Every charge must be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses.”
      ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭13:1‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“and when James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to Barnabas and me, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.”
      ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭2:9‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“Do not admit a charge against an elder except on the evidence of two or three witnesses.”
      ‭‭1 Tim 5:19
      This is biblical epistemology:
The church is the highest body of witness… This is not our rule. But the eternal Rule of Jesus Christ. The very eternal verse that Christ proclaimed even before the birth of the church at Pentecost :
“But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, TELL IT TO THE CHURCH.. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.”
      ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭ESV‬‬
Nobody as a single person can claim truth, be it a prophet dream or dogmatic interpretation of a Bible verse. :
“IF I ALONE BEAR WITNESS ABOUT MYSELF, my testimony is NOT true.”
      ‭‭John‬ ‭5‬:‭31‬ ‭ESV‬‬
THIS IS JESUS CHRIST SUBMITTING TO THE EVIDENCE OF THE LIVING WITNESS.
How much more must Luther, Calvin or anyone else after like the Mormoms or the JW..
What is common is eveyone claims infallibility from a interpretation of the scripture… well you have to, you can’t teach soteriology without infallibility.. no one will come to your church.. I don’t want it know how Jesus might save me by..
So the short answers is: no Protestant unfortunately threw the baby with the bath water

      1) believing the bread and the wine becomes the body and blood of Christ as he becomes present is transubstantiation. The Orthodox believe the same thing, though they do not use the term. Anyone that begins to argue "but the bread doesn't turn into meat nor the wine into blood" is changing the subject, because the Church never claimed it did.
      2) the indulgences were offered in exchange for donations, but indulgences were always available for free and history has long proven this
      3) the authority of Scripture was never denied. The authority of Church and her traditions has been, and exclusively by the heretics you listed as they sought to assert their own over the Church.

    • @datchet11
      @datchet11 17 дней назад +4

@@eddardgreybeard Transubstantiation, the belief that the bread and wine used in the Lord's Supper become the actual body and blood of Christ, is not supported by the New Testament. The Bible describes the Lord's Supper as a symbolic celebration carried out in remembrance of Jesus's death. In 1 Corinthians 11:24-25, Paul writes, "and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, 'This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.' In the same way, He took the cup also after supper, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.'"
The emphasis here is on remembrance, not on a literal transformation of the elements. Additionally, Jesus often used symbolic language to convey spiritual truths. For example, He referred to Himself as the "bread of life" (John 6:35) and the "door" (John 10:9), but these statements are clearly metaphorical.
Furthermore, Hebrews 10:10-14 emphasizes that Jesus's sacrifice was a one-time event that does not need to be repeated: "By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God."
Therefore, the New Testament supports the view that the Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of remembrance, not a literal transformation of the elements.
Indulgences in the Catholic Church were not free. Historically, indulgences were often granted in exchange for certain acts of piety, prayers, or financial contributions to the Church. This practice became particularly controversial during the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance, culminating in the sale of indulgences, which was one of the key issues that sparked the Protestant Reformation.
The Bible teaches that salvation and forgiveness are free gifts from God, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone, and not through any human effort or financial transaction. Ephesians 2:8-9 states, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast." Similarly, Romans 3:24 emphasizes that we are "justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus."
The concept of purchasing forgiveness or reducing time in purgatory through financial means is not supported by Scripture. Hebrews 10:14 underscores the completeness of Christ's sacrifice: "For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy." This once-for-all sacrifice means that believers are already fully forgiven and do not need to perform additional acts or make payments to secure their salvation or forgiveness.
The practice of selling indulgences is not aligned with the biblical teaching of grace and the complete, once-for-all forgiveness provided through Jesus Christ.

@@datchet11 I think it’s a bad argument especially biblically to connect good morality and authority.
Think about from the scriptures alone
Cos in the Bible.. it’s not always righteous men gain authority and wicked men lose lost authority.
Saul was wicked but never a false king Infact David dare not usurp him despite the king be possessed by the devil.
Barlaam was a wicked prophet but not once uttered a false prophecy
Uriah the high priest was a high priest despite changing the Alter of God at the Temple for pagan worship
Ahaz a true king of Isreal sitting on the seat of David despite sacrificing his Son to Molech
      Eli’s son…wicked still priests
Judus apostle of Christ betrayed our Lord. Not once called a false disciple
Ciaphas the high priest who crucified our Lord. Perfectly prophesied about our Lord. Doesn’t make him a false high priest.
Most of Isreal killed the prophets and stoned the ones who were sent to them.. yet the messiah came from them
God will only work with who he has given authority to and no other means. And he will bring Good out of it. Despite them doing evil
What you meant for evil, Our Lord will mean it for good… That’s how he always is …the same ystdy today and forever.
What is clear is it is God who brings Judgement on all these wicked people not man.. so I will worry about my own salvation and leave it those in authority to Our Lord. To whom more is given more will be required…

Calvinists misunderstand predestination completely, yet they understand it better then anyone else.
Yes the elect are predestined before the fondation of the world. God has chosen a few to who he reveals himself.
But its our duty to persevere in keeping the faith alive.
As to the unelect, they will make their final choice before second death. God wants to save all the unelect. Romans 11.32.

Christ calls those he came to save His sheep. And clarifies that not everyone is one of His sheep. As to God wanting to save the unelect the word literally means chosen. By who? Chosen by God. So you are in effect saying God wants to save the in-chosen. He didn’t choose them but still wants to save them.
Now I’m not saying God wants people to perish. But there is a mystery to this that in my experience calvinists are the ones willing to not fill in the blanks with Philip Sophie here the Bible has not filled them in. I think truly biblical Christianity often means being comfortable living in that zone.
