2021 Orange Five Evo review

- Andi gives us the low down of the latest creation from Orange Bikes. The Orange Five Evo is a new model for 2021 and features a new shorter travel chassis with long and slack geometry. Orange has released this 27.5in bike along with a 29er model both focusing on progressive geometry rather than long travel and the recipe works!
A few years ago I reviewed the Orange Four and I concluded that the short travel, single-pivot Orange was probably the bike most riders should be on. Its lightweight frame, decent geometry and progressive short travel made the Orange Four a playful bike in most trail situations, and even when the terrain became seriously technical and chunky the plucky little Orange dived right in.
The Orange Four is no longer part of the Orange line-up, but its spirit lives on in the all-new Orange Five Evo, a short travel suspension bike that can tackle way more than its fork length might suggest.
But to say that the new Orange Five Evo is just a new Orange Four wouldn’t be doing Halifax’s latest justice, after all, there’s a reason that the new bike is a Five.
The Five Evo makes up 50% of the new range of Evo bikes designed, tested and handmade in the UK. Also released today is the Stage Evo, a short travel 29er with new school geometry, but it’s the smaller wheeled Five Evo which blurs the lines between big travel bruisers and sorted short travel trail whippets.

I’ve just bought one, been riding it 2 weeks and it’s the best bike I’ve ever rode. Beautifully light, while remaining robust when you hit rocks, great bikes as always 👊🏻
Orange are nice bikes easy to maintain also
Could I have your genuine opinion on the five evo please, I'm worried the 320mm will be too low, I own a 27.5 bike with the same travel but the bb height is 327mm and I suffer a few pedal strikes now?
@@markpotts4428 Hi buddy, it’s genuinely the best bike I’ve had. Although the suspension is a little smaller than others, I didn’t notice a difference it’s agile and can take heavy hits. It’s very very light so uphills are much easier, i really love it and I would deffo recommend one.
Thanks appreciate the response, I think I'm worrying too much about the bb height and should just go buy one 😁
@@markpotts4428 I know this is a late answer, but I run 29ers on my Five Evo. Put the BB right where I want it.
Flipping love my four, fresh set of bearings and she's running sweet.
My Four got a frame crack last year. I took it back to Orange and they were awesome. Gave me another Four for the summer while my new frame was being built. They even let me go up a size, gave me free colour choice and arranged for a courier to come and pick up their bike when I got my new frame built into a bike. They said it was the new Four and Its the same spec as this. I’ve been riding it since October and it’s super great.
I had a fault with my Orange Four, Orange were great but they just sent me a new Four Frame, not this updated one.
frame cracks seem very common with the 4
@@jamble7k My Orange Four frame was not cracked, it was an alignment issue on the rear swing arm caused by the bike shop that built it up.
Great Review with enthusiasm.
Cheers mate👍
Can't believe this is still the only review of the Five Evo on youtube....
I'm interested in buying one, not sure on 27.5 or 29, they both have 1 review on RUclips ha ha I thought there would be a few by now
@@markpotts4428 I decided to go for the Hope HB130 instead in the end. Same price as the factory model and much more bike for the money. And apart from anything else, Orange aren't doing any demo bikes at all for the foreseeable future.
@@ricjuk yes I've been looking at the hb130 also, orange bikes are poorly specced for the price on some models.
Great review . Thumbs up
Great review. Really fancy building one of these up. I've always thought the five would be better with the open rear triangle 👌
Yup, I'm with you on that really not a fan of the 'closed' triangl.
I was wondering when they would update the Orange Four, I guess this is it's spiritual successor. I have an Orange Four and it's a great ripper of a bike. Just enough travel to get you in (and out) of trouble.
I know this is a review of the new 5, which looks great, but nice to see lots of love in the comments for the four! Love my four, use it for trails and the odd DH, it's way better than I am 8)
I love my Orange Four, I've just had mine resprayed "Wasabi Green" after taking a couple years of abuse. It's a shame you don't see many more of them around.
Thanks for watching! I also really loved the Four and this is really the next step in the evolution (even though it's got the wrong number on it) 😂
I love my orange bikes but my wife says I look stupid on a blue bike that says orange on it 😂. Iv got a Five and a crush. Loving the look of the new Five. Going have to get a test ride on one I think.
Looking at orange for the first time.
.why are there no reviews on theses bikes. I was looking at the stage 6.
Anyone got one? Want to use it for everything.
I'm very tempted to go with the frame only option here and swap all the bits over from my Orange Four... hmm. Do you think it would be worth it just for the updated geo?
yes
Im a huge Orange fan and this looks like a brilliant progression from the Four. I must say I am a little disappointed though as its not a 'five'. Please Orange do not dilute the name of the best trail bike ever made. It just confuses consumers. the 'four Evo' as im going to call it looks brilliant though. great review.
They should have called it the "Orange Evo" and the Orange Stage Evo".
The open rear triangle looks much better anyways. The beam one I always found ugly.
Great review and handy as ordering one on Monday just not sure which size to go for?
29 or 27?
I like 27.5 more. It’s more playful and a little more fun for the most part. But 29 rolls a little bit faster and goes over bumps a bit smoother.
Nice! how are you liking it?
Singletrack Magazine sad times as it’s not going to arrive till mid September 😳
What did you go for 27.5 or 29
@@markpotts4428 29inch
Uh, this vs the Bird Aether 7!? 🤞
I've not tested the Bird sorry, but I do really like this.
the bird is really good. It feels like 160 bike tbh, just more playful
Bird Aether has a sensibly positioned water bottle (important for some), and can be spec’d really well for much less money. Both look good bikes. Pays yer money, takes yer chance!
First 😎🚲🌲👍
