    Formula really do make beautiful suspension products. That coil is the nicest looking piggy back I have ever seen.

    Nice one Joe, great bike tips there, like the the one with the brakes and the smaller discs :) how often do you clean/change the brake pads? its the one thing that doesn't seem to hold out for very long on my trail slaying machine :D...cheers in advance

      Hard to stay on top of these thing's in the winter cause they never get any proper heat in them to harden up. But well worth a good a bed sesh on the street before hitting the muck.
      Summer they last ages, winter probably swap pads out once a month.

      Looks incredible. I haven't built one yet but once I'm back home from the alps and getting set in for winter I really want to give one a go. More aggressive geo a bit less travel I think would make an amazing fun bike for chucking about. When I was choosing what bike to do the check on I rode the five most of the summer and been loving it so an obvious choice.

      Weird choice of name I think, it seems to share more DNA with the Orange Four than the Five. Orange Four Evo would have made more sense as a name to me.

    Cheers Joe. One setup-related question. You obviously run a large mudguard for Scotland and I guess goggles always. Do you have any tips on keeping goggles clean during races or when out on longer rides? Do you use tear-offs or anything like that? Thanks in advance.

    • @joebarnes_hazzardracing2913
      @joebarnes_hazzardracing2913  3 года назад +17

      For racing organisation is key. A sealed sandwidge bag full with clean bog roll and then whap the goggles on just before leaving then straight back in the bag at the bottom. I have done really wet races and kept the goggles functioning all day this way.
      Tear offs aren't allowed cause of littering and rollers are just too much faff for a enduro race/day out where water can get under the film or into the system.
      So for me, either the sarny bag to keep them fully dry or a bit of tissue placed inside the lens and then tuck them under your jacket for the way up.

  • @davecowan6430

    Hi Joe, what's the thinking with the high rise bar? I was taught go as low as you can to help get weight on the front. Cheers

    • @joebarnes_hazzardracing2913
      @joebarnes_hazzardracing2913  3 года назад +9

      General idea is the longer the bike the more you raise your bars and with bikes getting longer and longer then bar height from BB up needs adjusted accordingly. If the bar height remains the same and bike grows then you're essentially riding in a deeper push up than before and then could be even overweighting the front wheel too much. So my thinking is maybe this was the case before but now there is room to up the bars a bit to find the correct balance. Chain stay length also comes into play as does everything but with the front centres growing I have found myself to be upping the bar height also.
      I am definitely a fan of weighting the front but if your neutral riding position is as balanced as possible then you can ride as relaxed as possible and push the front more when you need it. Hope this helps

    What are you using to mount the dropper lever to brake lever? I also run a one up with Tech lever but had to butcher a piece of plastic to make it work.....drives me crazy tho as there’s always a couple of mm movement before the lever releases

    • @joebarnes_hazzardracing2913
      @joebarnes_hazzardracing2913  3 года назад

      Your right. I got the direct mount to sram from hope and then went to pair it with the one up lever. But both got direct from the other side so it doesn't actually fit straight on. I did a quick filing job and it works well and looks neat now. I'm away just now but will get some pics when i get home.
      Also ill mention it to hope/one up to see if they can get a stock piece machined for this combo

    So was the Hope chainring compatible with the 12sp Shimano chain? Rumor is you have to swap the quick link with a sram or kmc link to make it work.
