Another great vid Kyle, I like all the charging tips you mention like the one where Teslas at low charge start off with a low voltage then go up. I think I’ve experienced that a few times, now I know why it happens. @1:47:20 I couldn’t get a clear look at those red model S wheels but they look like the same ones I have on my red 3!
Watching this for the second time and I enjoyed it again . I would love to see Tesla Model X / Model Y, CyberTruck , VS Ford Mach E, F150, Rivian, Audi ETron
VW was told they had to build a charging network, they weren't told they had to build a good charging network. A worse network keeps customers from buying EVs, is maybe VWs idea with Electrify America.
No ea and none of these cars could go anywhere. People focus on problems instead of being glad they have any chargers . They don’t make the chargers and they have to support all cars not just teslas . Plus other cars can charge it is the 800 volt cars that have trouble.
Worth mentioning that Tesla have now stopped producing the Model S in right-hand drive. That cuts out a pretty large market; U.K., Ireland, India, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore, Thailand, and many other countries.
Imagine getting a car that is so capable but driving it around like a 2000 Honda Insight (which would be faster and cheaper overall for your trip) good engineering solves problems and luxury cars shouldn't introduce headaches no matter what they run on!
I don't know if CCS sucks, or if Electrify America sucks. I guess it's possible both suck. So glad I had my parents buy a Model 3. In 3 years I've not had a problem with my Model X, haven't even had to wait in line yet(knock on wood).
A bit of both but mostly incompetence on the part of electrify America. Their complete inability to monitor the state of their net work is just sheer stupidity. Miss label chargers they don’t know when they’re out of service they’re derated it’s just mind boggling how incompetent they are. And all made worse by there are multiple deals for unlimited, charging and error in education of their customers.
It's the CCS charge point operators in North America that sucks. Non-Tesla charging in Europe is just fine. Europeans have superior hardware and a lot more of it than in the USA & Canada.
Technically it is junk equipment that sucks (and EA's maintenance) and not anything related to the CCS standard itself. EA needs to invest millions to repair/replace their broken chargers and to use hardware that is robust.
Air and Taycan basically virtually tied on charging efficiency/time at Green River EA. Air - 38.7 kWh / 12 min = 3.225 kW/minute Tacan - 50.24 kWh / 15.33 min = 3.277 kW/minute
It’s too bad that Green River Supercharger is a V2 site, which means it will not be of any help after the adapters and non-Telsa NACS cars are available. Hopefully Tesla will either upgrade the site or at least decide to add PLC modems to the V2 stations in rural/remote areas so that this craziness doesn’t go on for years to come. Maybe EVGo or the new consortium can step up and build out an actual national network of chargers to add competition to the charging situation
“Hopefully”.. Well... “Hopefully”, your wish never happens. Because those non Tesla consumers who will sponge on Tesla’s capabilities, will never show appreciation for what Tesla has done, or will do. Nor will take one minute to serious look at Tesla product. Why? Those people ran off the Cliff in non-Tesla hell once he showed some libertarian views. Especially once he bought “Twitter”.
I’ve driven this trip from Glenwood Springs/Grand Junction CO to Vegas and beyond and Green River has a massive opportunity to be a charging hub like Baker CA (on a smaller scale) and create some amazing opportunities for that small town. Would love to see that.
Tesla has a ton of V2 sites still along the I-10 corridor (El Paso, TX being the most prominent one). I think they'll just end up building totally new sites at a different site host in the same town.
Epic trip! Can't wait for EP3. Why don't you gather a bunch of friends and youtubers in Europe, and do some kind of mega race over here? Like, from Rome to North Cape via the Supercarger in Hell, Norway. 😁 That's a 59h drive (5,132km / 3,189 mi) according to Google Maps, if you avoid ferries. Fun fact; in Norway and Sweden, you have about 4x as many fast charging options with any CCS car, than if you were to rely on Tesla Superchargers only. BTW: I don't know if you've ever considered the e-cannonball, or it that's too easy for you.. 😏 It's September 16-17th in Germany.
Kyle's comment about vertically integrated charging is off the mark considering he knows better than anybody that non-Tesla charging works just fine in Europe for these same cars.
I had the same issue in Green River. The Rivian charging in front of me was at 35 Kw/h. I started my charge at 185 Kw/h. After about 15 minutes it went to 35 w/h. 🤷🏼♂️ I started at the Tesla charger but was only getting 26 Kw/h. There was no line of other cars to charge at EA.
Pretty spot on with how the charging experiences go with non-Tesla EV's. Even with Tesla though (like the one he stopped at in St. George), can be a risk if you don't know like the local secrets of what chargers are faster, etc... Almost every Electrify America we've stopped at there has always been a charging station down or not working. Really frustrating especially if you're low on battery and need to be somewhere. Always plan ahead and leave room for missed charging stations. Great real, raw video! This is what you will experience owning an EV and traveling long distances. Around town, such a breeze. Not the case when you're going on road trips.
Hopefully someone steps up and gets a proper non Tesla charging system in this country. Ridiculous to pay so much for a car that has this much trouble getting the fuel it needs. Not an EV owner but this channel is great to watch.
The only reason why is because Volkswagen was forced to do it. Teslas charging port is way better that’s why new EVs are now adopting the port. I would prefer Tesla to be the main provider tbh
Awesome video. Seems like you guys set this up to be as even a test as possible. Betting odds were always in favor of the Model S because of the sucky EA network. If there were reliable 350kW CCS chargers all the way, it would be much tighter and advantage Taycan over a longer distance. Great fun to see this kind of content. Thanks guys! Hope you had fun in Vegas
This video is better than any ad Tesla could ever hope to create. Imagine spending more to get less. All the people making excuses for their expensive emotional support CCS cars have Stockholm Syndrome
Ok, time to change this up, Ioniq 6 Rear wheel drive long range with 18" Fastwheel EV01+ wheel will be the road king on your next race to Vegas! Comfortable, quiet, and likely very efficient with its great charging, mind you CCS is still the wildcard. By the way my Ionq 5, 20" Fastwheels EV01+ with my Micheline Cross climate 20" 245/45 (my fall and winter tires) fit with a set of WHEEL CONNECT Hub Centric Rings, 67.1 to 64.1 on to my Model Y!!!
@1 hour 29 mins - that’s my zenith red GT that Kyle Connor spotted! Had a brief handshake moment with Kyle: I was so starstruck that I forgot his name. I’m such a dork. Anyway, it is curious that the charging stall Kyle used gave him the best charge session of the day, while that very same charging stall, from which I had just unplugged as Kyle pulled up, gave me my WORST charging session that day. I was driving in the opposite direction, towards Denver CO. On my return trip through UT I made a mental note to avoid the St George-Washington UT EA DCFCs because of my poor experience a week earlier, the day I ran into Kyle.
You should give the times of the three cars to Las Vegas with charging times & driving only … subtract any waiting times to charge, and show us those results… if driving at night, you might not have had any wait times
Last month on 350kW EA, Rivian charged at around 50kW, and I connected after it and Lucid was charging 170kW straight away. So most likely something to do with Rivian.
Those EA chargers in Green River never worked for me. I’ve tried using it a few times just to test out the CCS adapter and ended having to go up the road for the Super Charger.
Love the vid and can't wait for part 3! Really want you to do a ~$60K and below EVs version of this but know the infrastructure part of this will remain the same 🤷♂
Extra hour or so once or twice a year isn’t so bad, especially considering the NACS conversion coming soon so it’ll only be a problem for another year or two.
If people want to go electric, then Tesla is the only game in town right now, they clearly got this all figured out. Ironically Tesla will also very likely be the one that solves this problem for the other two cars, as in a couple years or so those cars will probably have adapters to plug into a decent subset of Tesla's Supercharger network, which is the industry standard for dependability as we've seen here.
Should do this test in Europe as well on a similar distance trip and similar rules. Different story and FAR more reliable chargers and MANY more charging options beyond Ionity.
Maybe and that's a big maybe when some of the car manufacturers provide adapters so CCS can utilize the NACS things will get smoother for everyone. But how long will we have to wait. I have a 2023 ID4 Pro S and love it but don't road trip.
It's amazing how bad the US CCS network is. Here in Europe we have so many different charging providers and stations that non-tesla drivers (including myself) primarily use the Tesla charging stations because they are cheaper, not because they are better. And many Tesla owners use all the other charging providers as well (same connector for all in Europe). The longest I have been waiting for a charger was around 5 minutes, and that was only because I didn't want to drive 10 meters / 30 yards (ish) to another provider whose 4 300KW chargers were all available...
I’ve been charging at green river so many times in my leaf! Last July 2023 it was so hot 🥵 my leaf was only charging at 8kh what road trip stories we have! lol on my channel too

I so appreciate what you,do for the EV community. Love your channel. You keep the enthusiasm going!
It sounds like Tesla could get a lot of good will from the EV community by dropping a bunch of V3 superchargers with magic docks nearby...
Think Magic dock won’t help Porsche and Lucid who had 800v arch and limited to 50kw
@@suresh_elonbro It would still remove significant strain on the local charging infrastructure, even if it would only be at 50kw for some.
better then not being able to charge when EA broken as usual or waiting in line? 50kw better then 0!@@suresh_elonbro
@@suresh_elonbroIsn't Porsch 150 kW now?
@@abraxastulammo9940 I believe its an upgrade option.
Gonna be sitting down to the Tee-Vee to watch this one in 4K with some popcorn after the kiddo is in bed; thanks for it! :)
I would prefer Tesla to be the main provider tbh
part 1: "we're going to get your part 2 ASAP...." 🤣
360 P... rip to the early ones
Looks like so much fun
Top work
man this is epic, love it all
Tesla SuperCharger station is the #1 Hands Down LOL!
@OutofSpecMotoring there is no sound for some reason. Did one of the editors have an issue in audio or what?
love the 'series'!
Really want you to do a ~$60K and below EVs version of this but know the infrastructure part of this will remain the same 🤷♂
Great video. Dang EA sucks. Can't wait for part 3
out of spec definitely does the best roadtrip videos/tutorials hands down. Am I right or am I right?!?!🤭🤣
Right on…. Rules should consist of during hot weather u must leave air conditioner on medium atleast
Do th damm thing team YALL ROCK
So Glad living in Europe. Non of these issues as Long as you Skip EON, thanks to Enbw, Fastned…
So pumped for the third installment!
KYLE - cannot wait to get my UPFIT spec Tesla model Y POLICE car.
You guys should do it with a Mercedes EQS Sedan 450+ in this type of race. It also has a big battery and it’s efficient too.
Nice RUclips. What is the rage or towel on the rear view mirror in the Tesla Model S for???
The mighty Model S Plaid. The most powerful American production car ever made (and the fastest car to Roadtrip in).
No sound also
Extra hour or so once or twice a year isn’t so bad, especially considering the NACS conversion coming soon so it’ll only be a problem for another year or two.
The infrastructure has to improve if they want people to go electric......
Let’s go Kyle!! I’ve been waiting for this scene I met you at Tesla Takeover!
YES!! Been waiting for this lol
Thank you for getting this out!!
😂 on the sticker issue. “You had one job!”
Last July 2023 it was so hot 🥵 my leaf was only charging at 8kh what road trip stories we have! lol on my channel too
Half an hour in "welcome to the beginning of part two here in the taycan"
That was a really interesting video. Love that Taycan.
