Great unbiased review. Both vehicles are well built and you can’t go wrong either way. Comments regarding dealership experience would depend on just that, individual dealership and not the vehicle or manufacturer itself. Thank you!
Had Acuras for 22 years service department told me I needed a $2000 repair that they didn’t have the parts for. I went to a local service shop who showed me the “repair” wasn’t necessary…called the Acura dealer, who has performed all services on all 5 Acura RLXs. No apologies from them, the GM or the regional office. Purchased a Lexus RX and wish I had done it sooner- great car, service and dealer experience!
As I said I was a bona fide Acura owner but this car was a pos. Under the extended warranty the main computer, starter, rear shocks/struts, wiper motor and a front end component were all replaced at what would have been almost $8k in repairs. A neighbor of mine who was also a long term Acura owner recently switched to Lexus due to maintenance and dealer service…personally, my family and I are done with any Honda products so
Having the previous owners of both Lexus and Acuras. I can handle Lexus as far and above Acura in terms of customer service. That’s not to say that the service department it’s always good. It’s determined by the dealership.
That removable center seat in the Acura is probably designed to make access to the 3rd-row seats easier. I’m a Lexus/Toyota guy, but I gotta give the edge to the folks at Acura for leaving a V-6 in the MDX. Lexus is making a mistake dropping the V-6 here. Long-term reliability in turbo-charged engines is going to be a bigger challenge. They have to work harder, and are very vulnerable to “delayed” service.
I would disagree on the V-6 if you are 300 net with the PHEV that one makes sense… maybe the 300h needs the v6. The Type S does use a lot of gas and the 450h+ cuts that in half and will have a higher resale value too. I had a Toyota Sienna that had a centre console that dropped on one side and captain chairs in the middle row so the front row passenger could go all the way from the front to the back on trips… it was amazing for long trips. So the value of removing that middle bench seat in the MDX with the 3rd row is awesome. The MDX isn’t great for the 3rd row passengers, but if you have young children it’s okay
That was a very fair comparison. I appreciate your honestly when comparing the two and pointing out pros and cons for both. Bravo. Thank you for confirming the Lexus is the SUV for me but I actually didn't need any convincing. LOVE the RX 500h F Sport which I am plan on upgrading from my NX 300 because it's just too small for me. That red interior in the RX is just gorgeous!
Thank you so much for saying that!! I'm definitely planning on doing more comparisons like this one soon! As for the RX 500H that is a great choice! I'm finding the trade values on NX 300 are still pretty good right now too, so that should work out in your favor as well!
I'd be interested to see if the Acura dealer/service experience is a good as Lexus. Another consideration would be resale value. I have to say I like the interior roominess of the Acura.
I've had Acuras and currently own a Lexus. Dealership experience from Lexus is way better than Acura's. Not saying Acura's service is bad. And resale value, again Lexus takes it. Great brands and cars but Lexus is a few steps ahead I would say. No experience with infiniti.
Great video and I am glad you are not out here bashing your competition. Always liked the RX but hard to swallow that the top trim 500h does not offer an air suspension, massaging seats, and 16 way adjustable seats. I have those in my MDX Type S and could never go back to a standard steel spring suspension again
Thanks for saying that and for watching!! I do appreciate the competing brands and try to stay unbiased. I DO ALSO WISH that we had massaging seats and air ride in the RX as well! Maybe Lexus will add those later on!
Maybe you don’t need the air suspension in the RX but it sure is nice that it’s STANDARD… it’s not standard in a Porsche Cayenne… an extra $2,700 CDN. Of course if you have to replace those springs they are probably $2,000 each😂
Read about cylinders deactivation. Not that great anymore. Drive until you have a warranty and get rid of it. Small engine with turbo is epa regulation. All manufacturers will go same way. Hybrid or small turbo engine.
*The MDX is vastly superior, minus the touchpad. Better engine, better looks, better AWD. RX looks feminine and more efficient due to smaller engine and hybridization. Should compare TX with MDX instead.*
Recently purchased a 2022 MDX after doing a ton at homework, the real comparison would be an RX 350 L, dicontinued on 2022, still Acura inside is much better than the Lexus in my opinion
@@pabloaguilar6342the 3.5L engine will last easily 300K miles with proper maintenance. Not to mention, Acuras maintenance is generally cheaper overall in comparison to Lexus
You can see the size and you know Lexus has narrow space than MDX. You get more to MDX than Lexus. Well it’s up to you what your cup of tea you drink. And Lexus only a 5 seater and am Lexus RX with 4cylinder makes me run and go with MDX!
I test drove a MDX fully loaded before buying the Lexus. I loves the removable seat and the cargo space in the trunk. What turned me off was the non hybrid option and how poor fuel economy I would get. If Acura had the MDX hybrid I would have probably gotten one. I did buy the Rx hybrid.
@@juanmateus8560 Yeah MDX redesigned the 2022 onwards and it became heavier, spacious than the older gen ,so its given it will affect mileage..for sure they will address that with incoming update in 2025 model year. I’m not into hybrid and I don’t worry much with gas mileage…hybrid car don’t have the feeling of engagement for me and probably expensive to repair later on compared to traditional engine set up. I’m heavy footed too and wanting a more spirited driving and hybrid system for me won’t be advantageous as probably I won’t use the system efficiently. Over all I’m happy with our Aspec ‘22..so comfortable ride in long drive and yet rewarding if you push it around and the suspension was so engaging knowing its a heavy SUV.
The biggest difference for me was the Lexus has a horrible 4 cylinder engine that is not even luxury in refinement and sound, I was going to buy RX but I drove a few of them and could not get over it, also same with the 500h, which is a lot more expensive, what a huge mistake by Lexus to get rid of the excellent V6 in favor of this horrible power plant.
1-2 years and Honda drop to 4 cylinder as well hybrid or turbo. EPA regulations- manufacturers can’t do anything. If v 6 in Honda have engine management system and cylinder deactivation it’s not good engine. Otherwise Acura looks better and think it’s bigger. But in other hand Lexus/Toyota sells way more vehicles then Honda/ Acura.
@@kr9181😂 also people want buttons because talking a screen just to change ac settings is garbage. Toyota used to be good but they are ruining their most desired feature and that is the motors. I would push it as far as I could as an exec.
I would go with Lexus if I wanted to go hybrid or plug-in hybrid since Acura doesn't my any hybrids since the 17-20 MDX Sport Hybrid. I had 4 cylinder turbos before and real life mpgs are lower because of needing to turbo boost to make power living +5000 feet.

These were two of my top five in a recent purchase. After much debate, test drives and comparisons.... The lexus was the first to fall. I chose a 2024 MDX type S. The lexus held zero competition to my MDX even after options added. Not even close Lexus.
I have the 2024 MDX Advanced and surprisingly I was good with the shifter in about 3 days. It's a beautiful car. I had a Lexus ES350 for 8 years, so it was hard to leave Lexus when I wanted to move to an SUV. Driving a V6 versus a 4 cylinder is night and day, and that is why I bought an the Acura.
Pretty much all vehicles have drive by wire shifters. Acura just realized it is more realistic having buttons for more space compared to fake shifter that does exact same function.
Me personally would go for the RX 350 for sure! I do really like some of the Range rovers, but they do depreciate quite quickly for some reason which makes me nervous. Either one is a great choice that I'm sure you will love, however my vote would be the RX FSport!
