Seems like every year vehicles in general look less and less different. Nonetheless, it's tough to beat the overall reliability of a Toyota or a Honda.
Acura was launched before Lexus into the market. Honda was the first Japanese automaker to build a luxury brand of vehicles then both Toyota and Nissan followed suit later on with Lexus and Infiniti respectively.
Toyota is a more conservative company. They do not launch their products to be the first in the market. Acura Legend second generation was disastrous with several engine and transmission flaws. But the Honda Preludes were great cars. To each his/her own, I would never buy an Infinity or Nissan.
To be fair, Acura's newest 10 speed is reliable. The horrendous 5 speed is no longer made, and the other horrendous transmission, the 9-speed, is no longer at Acura. The issues with the 10-speed have been mostly due to an electronic module, easy fix. Acura's less reliable than Lexus and their immediately previous era has been less reliable than BMW, but that's compensated by Acura's reliability climbing back up to above the Germans and Genesis due to Acura's new era
I have both MDX and RX350 they are both 2015. I like MDX more. It is more fun to drive never break down but the battery drains so fast. But my RX350 sound system failure last week. Over all they both are good.
I think the battery is probably smaller and lighter by design. My Honda battery is pretty small. As for the drain that comes from the proximity security features which are constantly draining juice.
I’m not a fan of Lexus, a lot of them are just Toyotas with leather and a few extra features. Acura makes some pretty nice vehicles, they are sportier than Hondas with more luxury. I don’t think reliability is crucial in luxury cars if that’s the most most important thing to you, they’re fantastic Hondas and Toyotas at a fraction of the cost.
According to you Lexus are Toyotas with leather, my wife have an Acura RDX , no problems whatsoever; but use the same transmission and the same 3.5 V6 used by every Honda V6, so basically is a Honda with leather too or not ? The same happens with Lincoln/Ford and Cadillac/ Chevy or not ? Definitely you have never been inside of a Lexus, not even the entry level ES 350 !!! By the way I don’t own a Lexus, but I know a little bit about cars .
@@64arguz yes, cheaper luxury cars borrow engines and transmissions from their affordable counterpart. Great manufacturers have unique engines and transmissions along with features in their luxury brand and when they start age they put them in their affordable cars. Audi and Volkswagen are great at this. Lexus is simply a rebadged Toyota and Acura is a rebadged Honda because Americans won’t spend top dollar on a Honda or Toyota badge. It’s different in Europe, Lexus last great car was the LFA and I’ve been in tons of luxury and affordable vehicles. No disrespect, we’re all entitled to opinions however, corporations go through great lengths to hide the truth.
I agree with your assessment of Lexus over Acura. No specific reason., If anything, the grill in a Lexus is rather off putting, to me. Owners of either vehicle or, generally, the very satisfied with the reliability.

FACTS whether you pick Acura and Lexus, you have a luxury vehicle meant to last I don't know to much bout infinite but I don't think their just as reliable.

The other thing I look at is resale value. In my experience, Acura does not seem to hold as well as Lexus. My wife drives a 2020 RDX A-Spec. AWD system is amazing. The one area needing improvement is the brakes. Squeak a lot and when they are wet, they moan a little more. Dealer says they’re fine. I don’t know. 😜
Had that issue with my Acura. I think a few models of the new Acura’s had the squeaking brakes. They replaced them at the dealer and after awhile the sound came back. End up going aftermarket brakes.

I had a 2018 RX350 Fsport that broke a velocity joint and cradle arm from taking a sharp corner. Also had a Camry that bunt oil like crazy. Honda is known for engines that last forever and Acuras all wheel drive systems are fun to drive.
I upgraded to a 2022 MDX from a 2009 CR-V. Other than the shitty MPG, loving it so far. I did consider RX 350 or 350L. But the cargo space was too small!
I would agree with you 100% on your analysis.👌One of the weakest points in Honda / Acura is their Transmissions especially when they get some miles on them. That carbon buildup was the main issue I have really noted with a Lexus.. Toyota corrected that issue when they started incorporating direct fuel injection and port fuel injection . Those engines are very reliable now and the engines really stay clean. Henceforth IMPROVED Dynamic Forced Engines They are used and a lot of new Toyotas as well as hybrids with various electric motors.
My Acura TLX 6 Cylinder 2015-2020 has a very funky trans. Sometimes it can’t decide what gear it wants to be in. Of course no trans can compare to my Tesla model 3.
As some that works on Lexus cars for a living Lexus IS way better to work on and reliable. We got a few used car trade in Acura and I would say out of the 12 we got 6 had issues and MDX had a issue where it kept starting for no reason and the alarm kept going off and the hood latch sensor was broken or whatever you call it.

Great video. The only reservation I'd have with purchasing a used Acura is they tend to appeal more to the sports car fan, which means the car is probably driven harder than a Lexus would be. And let's be honest, Toyota has taken the time to really differentiate Lexus from Toyota as far as appearance goes, whereas an Acura doesn't look much different from a Honda.
I think Honda is substantially inferior in luxury and power department from Acuras. I don't even know how you could say such a thing. Also Acura dealers are top notch and Honda are utter garbage, bottom of barrel. In Toyota/Lexus, Toyota cars share foundations with Lexus and thats a good thing and Camry is really a cheaper Lexus. I see them much closer than Honda/Acura. As well Toyota service is tops just like Lexus.

One small thing that I found unrelated to reliability is that the RX350 tends to be purchased by women while the MDX which I drive is purchased by both men and women with females also purchasing the RDX. Some cars just have that stigma.
Wrong question, probably to get more clicks. There is NO brand that is more reliable than Toyota/Lexus. Honda /Acura is good and takes the second spot but its a definitive second. I am not saying that cause I owned two Toyotas and two Acuras in a decade, I am saying this because I am a used car dealer selling these brands for 25 years now.
I have noticed that when an Acura or Honda goes down my street, they are usually a lot quieter than a Toyota. I find that engines that are getting premium fuel are quieter than those getting regular. And if you run regular in a vehicle that is supposed to get premium, it sounds like a sherman tank.
Most Lexus are rear wheel drive whereas most Acura are front wheel drive, Toyota has V8 and even V12 engines while Acura sticks with 6 cylinders max. The only Acura I love is the NSX
Lexus is vastly better IMHO. The dealership service is second to none. My only issues were ML sound system-related (several parts replaced including 2 CD player replacements) but ML is built by a 3rd party...

The Acura's engine is a 3.0L V6 which is an adequate engine with one turbo added to it. I have driven this new TLX Type S and its a great driving experience. I am not saying Lexus is shit what I am saying is I prefer Acura's engine at this point.
Seems like every year vehicles in general look less and less different. Nonetheless, it's tough to beat the overall reliability of a Toyota or a Honda.
Yea turbocharged says otherwise. Lol
Lexus is way more reliable with a much larger lineup with way more technology and complexity. Acura has what 4 vehicles all made in ohio.
Acura was launched before Lexus into the market. Honda was the first Japanese automaker to build a luxury brand of vehicles then both Toyota and Nissan followed suit later on with Lexus and Infiniti respectively.
You bet, it proved profitable so they all caught on
And they both succeed better than acura 👌🏽
Thanks and yes
I have both MDX and RX350 they are both 2015. I like MDX more. It is more fun to drive never break down but the battery drains so fast. But my RX350 sound system failure last week. Over all they both are good.
I think the battery is probably smaller and lighter by design. My Honda battery is pretty small. As for the drain that comes from the proximity security features which are constantly draining juice.
Toyota is for people that have no idea what is under the hood. Acuras are super reliable too but it needs basic maintenance and it will do 250,000mi
In my experience with both brands is that the Acura brand has given me less problems than Lexus.
Riding around in my 18 year old Lexus. Looks brand new. 32,500 on it. Lexus for the win!
@stolenelection I have the records from Lexus. Old woman owned it. 1 owner
It’s Lexus and Acura vs every body else. Which no one is more reliable than them. 💯
Those are very good points and you are right, there is always a bit of a compromise when stepping up.
@Thomas Helm That ‘off putting’ grill may be a Cow Plow for for ‘putting off’ cattle that stray onto the road. It sure does Nothing for enhancing its good looks.

FACTS whether you pick Acura and Lexus, you have a luxury vehicle meant to last I don't know to much bout infinite but I don't think their just as reliable.
Lexus is Japanese. Acura is basically American.
Honda has been my choice, And probably will be in the future, But I don't just by any Car, for an example our new 2020 Civic Sport sedan has the NA K20C2 engine without a turbo or GDI and a 6 speed manual works Great for us😎

Thanks for sharing and that’s a nice vehicle you have. Sporty and practical.
I like things that moan and squeak when they are wet lol
Had that issue with my Acura. I think a few models of the new Acura’s had the squeaking brakes. They replaced them at the dealer and after awhile the sound came back. End up going aftermarket brakes.
I currently owned a 2008 Acura MDX sport model with 122K miles. Just recently changed sway bar, fuel pump and my power steering is making a winding sound ,so will have to change that soon. Already did my timing belt and water pump service. Other than those it's going well. Still drive great

I have owned many Honda/Acura products and Toyota/Lexus products. I didn't have any major problems with either brand but I do trade a lot. We just acquired two Acura RDX's. I am confident with our vehicle purchases.
I had a 2018 RX350 Fsport that broke a velocity joint and cradle arm from taking a sharp corner. Also had a Camry that bunt oil like crazy. Own an Acura TL for almost eight years without a single problem. Acuras are more reliable, better performance and can handle rough driving. You really need to baby a Lexus for it to last. Honda is known for engines that last forever and Acuras all wheel drive systems are fun to drive.
That’s definitely some great thoughts. Thanks for sharing
I upgraded to a 2022 MDX from a 2009 CR-V. Other than the shitty MPG, loving it so far. I did consider RX 350 or 350L. But the cargo space was too small!
Congrats on the new MDX what a major upgrade !!
What an upgrade that is. Hope the Acura is as reliable as the Honda was.
Updates on the MDX? I'm thinking of buying the 2022 mdx very soon. Has it been reliable?
O.5% does not mean one out of every two. Let's get the basic math right folks.
thanks
I would agree with you 100% on your analysis.👌One of the weakest points in Honda / Acura is their Transmissions especially when they get some miles on them. That carbon buildup was the main issue I have really noted with a Lexus.. Toyota corrected that issue when they started incorporating direct fuel injection and port fuel injection . Those engines are very reliable now and the engines really stay clean. Henceforth IMPROVED Dynamic Forced Engines
They are used and a lot of new Toyotas as well as hybrids with various electric motors.
Absolutely true, the engines are now almost bulletproof, thus making them reliable as can be.

My Acura TLX 6 Cylinder 2015-2020 has a very funky trans. Sometimes it can’t decide what gear it wants to be in. Of course no trans can compare to my Tesla model 3.
Perhaps it just needs a fluid change and/or software update?
As some that works on Lexus cars for a living Lexus IS way better to work on and reliable. We got a few used car trade in Acura and I would say out of the 12 we got 6 had issues and MDX had a issue where it kept starting for no reason and the alarm kept going off and the hood latch sensor was broken or whatever you call it.

Blame the US Government for forcing the industry to push out higher gas milage vehicles....all the lame 1.5L weak engines with weak turbos...and Toyota going all in on Hybrid. Granted Toyota is good at the Hybrid game, but dang its going down hill for both, just faster for Honda...bummer, both brands have been amazing.
I would have to disagree with you on this. We've bought Acuras going back to the 1998 2.5TL to a 2021 TLX A-Spec and they have been extremely reliable with no major repairs ever. Also you compared two older Acuras to two new Lexus models, come on the TL you showed was last sold in 2008 that's really not a fair comparison. Next time compare models from the same year just to be fair at least. Nothing personal still like your videos and still a fan, thanks.
Great points Jeff, you bet. Either way, can’t go too wrong with both.
Yeah the MDX that was used was lame, compared to the current TLX, MDX or RDX model. Also Honda/Acura's 10 speed transmission is incredible!
A little bit of a stilted review. You compare an MDX WITHOUT the A Spec package with an F sport RX350?? F sport trim level is NOT the volume trim level, and you compared it to an MDX. not sure if it was Technology or Advanced Level, looked like the lower end technology trim level to me. A Spec MDX looks sportier than an F sport RX350!!!

Of course nop , Acura is know for their weak automatic transmissions
There are some for sure in certain models.
That is true.

Yeah, that ‘Cow Plow’ front grill Really does differentiate the Lexus from a modest grilled Toyota.

Short answer: it depends on the model. Like for example, the RL was not very good and the same goes for the IS250 that had the carbon buildup issues.
Which Rl model did you have
The ES350 has the same exact engine as the Camry and Avalon. The gears don't shift smoothly and that's putting it lightly.

Trunk in the new RX is unusable. For the size of the vehicle, the trunk is just shallow.
I agree that Acura is a little more reliable than Lexus, because they have a sportier design and they are a lot sportier while the vehicle is in motion. For the Lexus, the design is different and the movement is a little slower. My favourite models are the TL and the MDX. Thanks.
