This is from the album “A Momentary Lapse of Reason”, the first album without Roger Waters. Gilmour wanted to make a statement that indeed Pink Floyd was more than Waters alone (as Waters famously stated). This is one of those songs that having the lyrics handy might enhance the experience. This is a truly beautiful and inspiring song about embracing those all around us who are in need. “Where the speechless unite in a silent accord” is high on my list of best lyrical lines ever written. And if there’s any doubt through the song that you’re listening to Pink Floyd, Gilmour’s guitar comes in near the end you know automatically who it is.
Truth. Anyone who has listened to much Pink Floyd automatically recognizes the pitch of the guitar and playing style of Gilmour. That man has more talent in his pinky than any given 50 of today's so-called "musicians". Sorry to break it to you folks but massive auto-tune with no instrumental ability while you jump around on stage doesn't make you a musician and (to me) it's NOT a "song" if you are standing there TALKING in rhyme and making body noises while promoting drugs, violence and the denegration of women
Agreed. This is clearly a Floyd tune, and Gilmour's hand is obvious. However, the album as a whole suffered from Waters' absence. Furthermore, the band hand other issues, too. Remember that Richard Wright was disenfranchised as an official member of the band. He continued playing with them until his passing, but he was never reinstated as officially a member, and I personally feel the inability of Gilmour to resolve his disagreements with Waters was the engine that drove him away for keeps and even perhaps how Wright was treated. At the very least, I feel it weakened Pink Floyd music going forward. It was still good, but it wasn't of the stellar quality equal to the day of Dark Side or The Wall. I'm particularly disappointed that that final live performance in which Roger was invited to participate wasn't a catalyst to finally heal that rift. By now I'm certain most Floyd fans have seen the RUclips copy of the performance and will agree that it was pretty brilliant. I would suggest that Jay and Amber seek out that video, as it's well worth the effort.
@@Dragonsinger71 True, but it wasn't ALL on Gilmour. Waters had gotten to the point where the various drugs were seriously affecting his abilities. 43 takes of just one track for instance was heavily impacting the recording schedule and they were under contract to deliver the album in about a month when they split and the entire band was suffering from low morale because of it. Pressure from all sides was tearing the band apart. Add how much of a perfectionist Gilmour is and it was a real train wreck. I am still amazed that they didn't just implode and no more Floyd
@@Dragonsinger71 Of course Gilmour's drinking wasn't exactly helping either
And Roger’s big ego didn’t help either.
Only thing disappointing about this song is that it has to end. Definitely one of their best, my favorite.
True 😢
Very true. Though the ending solo is much longer on the live version on Pulse.
This song has such a TIMELY message!! "Just a world that we all must share. It's not enough just to stand and stare. Is it only a dream that they'll be no more turning away?"
Beautiful
Yes I hope they payed attention to the lyrics.
"Hey you" is amazing!!!! Plus, their "comfortably numb" pulse performance from 1994 is a must!
All I want for Christmas is for them to do comfortably numb pulse live. Lol
@@charlenecross28 Lol! Same 😂
Would blow their minds! Peace
The entire Pulse concert is a must in my humble opinion.
We played this at our daughters funeral. Was a long long time before I could listen to this again without crying my eyes out
I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. I lost my mom too early and it destroyed me. I can’t even imagine the loss of a child. (I never had kids.)
@@emilywilhite5807 Thank you. I lost Mum last year. I entirely understand your pain
One dad to another, my sincere condolences. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I lost my family a couple of years ago in a span of 6 months, (cancer, heart failure. And a surgery gone horribly wrong) We may be strangers, but we're brothers and sisters in pain, and it isn't much comfort I know, but none of you are ever alone, we always have each other. Peace and love to you all
I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost an 6 month old infant in 1992 and it's like yesterday. I still have dreams and at times nightmares from that day. I just had no one to talk to at that time.
The live version on "Delicate Sound of Thunder" is one of the great live performances ever recorded. Absolutely spectacular, and Gilmour's solo is about as good as it gets. A definite "Do NOT miss".
Yup...
Im still amazed how i didn't wore the grooves out on my Delicate Sound of Thunder LP, from the ridiculous amount of times i played this when i got it in 88, and nevermind lending it to almost all the guys on my class.
I love the live DSOT version better, not only for David's extended solo, but also the a capella part, and Rick's beutiful synth intro
100% agree!
Ditto the live version is mind blowing
Sending a request - Voices Carry by ‘Til Tuesday (‘80s) - love you guys!
Honestly worth a reaction just for the guitar solo alone.
“It’s not enough just to stand and stare” love this line. This world needs more empathy and caring
This song was a cry for a better world. Sadly too many people still join in the Turning Away. Great reaction.
OMG the way you two have grown over time and how you both break down songs. Trust me your both becoming professionals and I hope this leads to much bigger places for you both. Seriously love your breakdowns keep up the amazing work!!!!! 😊❤️
Agreed, Rob and Amber have really came a long way here..love you guys.
there's many amazing Floyd songs as you've already discovered. but there's one that rises above the rest to define Pink Floyd so much that it became their anthem that started every concert they gave after its release. haunting, beautiful, tragic, raw & intimate, it tells the story of Pink Floyd itself in a song. Shine On You Crazy Diamond. it'll forever change how you see the band.
Definately a good one! I remember Floyd opened with that song one of the times I saw them in concert. It was amazing! Gilmour is the best in the world on slide guitar and my personal fave.
I have stressed this song with our wonderful couple numerous times. The double sax solo at the end would make Amber smile thus making us live up to their mantra of making someone smile. You are so right Tim they need to listen to this one. And then maybe we can throw One of These Days or Careful with that Ax Eugene at them.
ive called for this on every floyd reaction
@@davidtrevitt9753 it's the key to understanding Floyd, at least through Dark Side & you could easily argue the Wall as well. Syd was incandescent. until he wasn't.
💎Shine On is probably my Favorite Floyd song as well
This is one my favorite Pink Floyd songs. The lyrics are deep, the vocals are heavenly and the solo is epic.
Same here
Well stated.
Omg this is one of the most meaningful songs that is a call to action to help those less fortunate. Very powerful!!
No one else can make a guitar weep like David Gilmore!
I actually saw this tour in Miami (90's) and it was INCREDIBLE.
Absolutely everyone sang every song as a light mist of rain made the lasers sparkle and security pretended they couldn't smell what people were smoking...
They bring a reality that expands your mind
Pink Floyd had numerous songs before this that included Gilmour's acoustic guitar mastery...the most well known being the tile track from Wish You Were Here. Dogs from Animals, Mother from The Wall, Fearless from Meddle, Fat Old Sun from Atom Heart Mother, etc. are all excellent examples of Gilmour's prowess on acoustic guitar.
Try a live version of Fat Old Sun. It really kicks into overdrive. Good call.
Whot's uh the deal is another great Gilmore Acoustic song...
Also Waters was respectable in acoustic. pigs on the wings, part 1 and 2.
@@andreabindolini7452 But Waters didn't play guitar in the studio It was always up to Gilmour. Waters only played guitar in concert. By the way, Waters was a brilliant songwriter and a good composer but a very poor performer. His singing is bad and his instrument playing is bad...
@@lubos1207 I'm pretty sure that in "Pigs on the Wing" it was Waters even in the studio version. Conversely, virtually all the bass lines on that album... were performed by Gilmour.
This song makes me BAWL dude. I love the positivity and tone. They don't make them like they used to,.
1994 Pulse concert was mind-blowing.........best concert I've ever seen
This song came out in 1987 and was a staple in their live shows 87-89. It was considered a protest song. Some fans thought it sounded Celtic achieved by alternating various time signature sounds. Just a great Floyd song that delivers you on a magical trip to perfection. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
It's actually about the plight of the homeless. How people walk by them without any feelings at all.
@@bartfart3847 What is wrong with you? Go away.
Its a shame they didn't properly recorded any of the 94 tour versions. Some amazing solos on a lot of nights. Ive heard all the bootleg versions there are of this song from the 87/88 tour and 94 tour. Gilmour played it once on his 06 On An Island solo tour in Iraly, but the weather was terrible and the Black Strat went badly out of tune, didn't went all that great unfortunately.
it was Celtic sounding because they say The Northern Ireland situation was part of the influence for this beautiful song...
Listen to the Celtic song called Wild Mountain Thyme from the 1700’s, then come back and discuss. You’ll be blown away by the similarities. I like to hear it by The Longest John’s.
Pink Floyd is one of the few Bands that you get so much more from the live version, 1987 Pulse concert.
You mean the Delicate Sound of Thunder live album... 😉
Pulse was in 94
I saw Pink Floyd twice. Hearing David Gilmour‘s guitar solos through the humongous quadraphonic Pink Floyd sound system was like a religious experience. Plenty of goosebumps!
I'm telling you guys, you really need to check out Pink Floyd: Echoes, Live At Pompeii (the 1971 version).
You won't regret it.
I say this every Pink Floyd reaction. Hopefully more people will request it
@@roberthofmann8403 I always recommend it, to these folks in particular, every time they react to Pink Floyd. I'm really hoping they see it from me & several others. That performance is essential viewing for every Floydian.
Another awesome song. High hopes, a great day for freedom, coming back to life, comfortably numb, and wishing you were here from their pulse tour are a must, really the whole pulse live concert is mesmerizing.
Every song is a journey
As always the lyrics are poignant, meaningful and resonate within us which has been a Pink Floyd standard regardless of who wrote or sang them.
This song makes me cry.
I'm a huge fan of PF but the Gilmour incarnations are my favorites. His voice is so beautiful & then his guitar work💕
Plus, Dave doesn't come with all the dark emotional baggage Roger has. Mind you, some of that baggage drove Roger to great heights, but you can't carry that weight around album after album. Where's the hope? The reprieve? Dave brought that to us lyrically and musically with his guitar.
Gunner's Dream off the final cut album is one of my favorites and haunting AF. The voice is explosive in that song - shakes your core.
This song in their 1994 pulse concert is on another level.
When this song was released someone asked David Gilmore if it was actually a Hymn. It is not, but he took that as a complement. My audio system includes a Yamaha Digital Soundfield Processor, which can simulate a wide variety of venues. When I listen to this CD, I have that DSP set to Cathedral, and it is just wonderful.
This song is positively hymnal. Gives me goosebumps to this day. Great choice!
Yes... And the a capella part on the live verions make it even more hymnal
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Hey You"!! The story of Pink!!
Absolutely a must. 😊👍✌️🎶🇨🇦
Without a doubt my favorite song from them. The live version blows me away
Such a vibe we've just been on. OH wow.....the re-mastered LIVE version of this song is absolutely heartstopping!! Check it out Amber, you'll absolutely find yourself fighting back the tears.....an awesome video! Happy Thanksgiving guys, hope y'all had a great one. Blessed Sunday to you both!
When I hear this song, it summons memories of old Irish melodies from my childhood. It is becoming my favourite Floyd song.
Love Pink Floyd, they have so many fantastic songs.
This was our wedding song, and it still brings deep feelings for both of us. Thanks guys, love it!!
One of their best. And that guitar.
I used to work with horses. They love Pink Floyd.
How Cool 😎. If course they would ! Amazing 😍
Who wouldn’t ?
i went to tears as soon as the song started i am 59 and this song still makes me cry hugs to you and yours
If you haven't heard; Wish You Were Here, that song starts off with just an acoustic guitar and vocals, as well
I love how much you love Pink Floyd. They're a transcendent band; artists of the highest caliber. You get it. 😉 I know it's not your normal thing but you simply must listen to their four greatest albums (Dark Side thru The Wall) in their entirety. It's life changing.
"... it's not enough just to stand and Stare ...". We are All in this world 🌎 together, and we need to look after one another, love one another, and lift up one another! No more Turning Away, guys !
My…favorite…..band….ever….!
Shine on you crazy diamond is an absolute must. You will be taken on a trip that you will never want to come back from. Please do it next!!!
Check out the great accoustic guitar from Pink Floyd's timeless classic Wish You Were Here, David Gilmour shows off his skills to perfection on this one.....👍👍
🙏❤️😎🇨🇦
But what we are ALL waiting for, is for you guys to do FULL ALBUM reviews for Pink Floyd. You can NOT really get Pink Floyd without hearing the entire album as one complete masterpiece. You need to hear them in one sitting so you can truly experience the gift that Pink Floyd gives. They take us on incredible journeys of human emotion that can be VERY difficult to process. Their songs allow us to contemplate and experience very tough things, but their healing music makes it possible to go through all those things, and still be grounded and healed in the end. If you can make time to do whole movie reviews, you can certainly make time for a whole Floyd album. Do Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Here, and Animals --- in that order. Then finish up by watching the movie "The Wall". It's basically impossible to understand that album if you don't see the movie. We only recommend full-album reviews for your benefit -- we promise you will be SO glad you did! Love you guys!
I agree, they should actually do The Wall on the movie reactions
I couldn’t finish The Wall: The Movie. I thought Bob Geldof (who famously hated Pink Floyd) was a poor choice to cast as the lead. The movie is a distraction from enjoying the storyline, IMO.
The piper or Saucerful... as much as I like PF releases apart from final cut, apart from Nick touring the early stuff, it does not get the publicity it deserves.
This song is so very deep and moving. We all need to have the spirit of charity in our hearts and help our fellow man. Love this song.
Pink Floyd is the best band ever. Truly one of a kind. You'll never hear or see a band like this ever again....
One of my favorite songs with a message we should all take in and like most Floyd song instrumentaly flawless
Thanks for your great reactions, keep up the good work. All my favourite artists, Queen, The Beatles, Floyd, Paul Mc Cartney. Good job .
This one always chokes me up a bit - so go back and listen again to the words without stopping to comment.
It's always wonderful to here your comments on probably one of the best bands in the world
Easily one of the best songs from later era Floyd. Gilmour’s ethereal voice really shines here. Your next Floyd song has to be “Hey You” from The Wall.
This one is special...still brings tears to my eyes today...Ty guyz...
MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!! 👍❣️👍❣️👍
Seriously, I love watching your channel. It's not just the music I grew up with, but your reactions. I get to see someone hear the music that ment so much to me growing up. Thank You
Thanks for the GOAT reaction. Always a great reaction from u all.
Saw them in concert the music was outstanding but the light show was incredible. Greatest concert I have seen
saw Roger on tour a few years back. he had the usual stage props, a giant flying pig & a wall that came down in the middle that had projection mapping on it. & then for the finale he did Dark Side of the Moon & unveiled his apotheosis, a pyramid made of lasers with a chromatic spray coming out of it just like the album cover. we all stood under this massive laser pyramid as the man who wrote the song performed it for us. it was transformative.
Great Pink Floyd track. You must watch the Pulse live version of Comfortable numb to see and hear Pink Floyd at their live best. You will be totally blown away!!!!!
Sweet.....my favorite Floyd song.
This songs makes me picture the world coming together!
I have everything Pink Floyd ever released ,even the singles ,and all of Gilmours solo albums, On an Island Is one of my favorite albums by Gilmour, the song The Blue is awesome.
Mother by Pink Floyd is a must !!!
As I said many times, you don't listen to Pink Floyd, you experience Pink Floyd. And for Jay, I have actually used the words from this song in church for the call to give tithes and offerings. "No more turning away, from the weak and the weary. No more turning away from the coldness inside. Just a world that we all must share. It's not enough just to stand and stare. Is it only a dream that there'll be no more turning away?"
paying your tithes isn't doing anything to restore people from the conditions of poverty. Poverty being a human engineered system. Don't pretend to care.. because you pay your church money and pray to a god that takes the children that mother Earth breathed life into. The church does NOTHING to restore humanity. The church feeds off the suffering that their god creates... economically. I'll let you know something else. Real Spirit has nothing to do with money. Money being a man made value that's stolen the heart of the human race. As evidenced by the state of human beings. I"ve got no use for people with gods who do NOTHING to actually help people. You are the people who turn away.. who the song is for. So I DO hope you listen.. and end the turning away from HUMANITY.
@@keetahbrough I'm sorry you have such anger towards religion. It appears you must have had to deal with the self-righteous, politically conservative "Christian" that so many people think of instead of the true meaning behind most religions. However, there are still good people out there that you cannot lump into that same mold, be they Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, Jian, Hindu, or many others. And I am Universalist so I don't follow any one God, but realize they all have their good and bad faults, including having no faith at all.
sus eacciones son las mejores del mundo ,sorbe todo cuando las hacen de mi grupo adorado,,amo Pink Floyd y me encanta ver a gente joven disfrutando de esta musicaincomparable GRACIASSSSSSS!!!!!!!
I'm in my mid-sixties and you are one of the few couples doing reactions that GET Pink Floyd. And for that, I follow you religeously, because if you get them, then I can trust you'll get everyone else.
Pink Floyd only makes masterpieces. NOBODY compares to Pink Floyd. They grab your soul.
You guys have to listen to "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" & "Fletcher Memorial Home".
You really need to hear this song live it's 1000% better
Check the live version... Delicate Sound of Thunder concert... it is by far the best rendition of this song.
"It's not enough just to stand and stare'...has always been my fav line. Great album...
Wow, she gets it
What a beautiful and perfect comment for a perfect song
Oh yeah! Love Pink Floyd ✌❤🎶
When I see you reacting to pink Floyd I get so excited! Thankyou ❤
Any Pink Floyd is a guy's best friend when he's with his lady.
...especially during 'that' time together.
You need to see the live concert version, the tour when Rachel Fury was the lead female back up singer. Amazing
one of the best post Waters era songs
I used this song in a presentation for my senior year humanities class in high school. I can not hear this song and not have a tear come to my eye. The song is so powerful. And the lyrics stand up even today.
When they start, it's just one voice and a drone on the keyboard. Then add a guitar, and then maybe another voice. Just keep building until, after the break, it is a massive sound of everyone saying no more turning away together. United!
I love that you did this one!
Just watching you both just feeling the music is magic. You guys are great.
"Pulse Tour Live" all those songs are magnificent
Pink Floyd has many tunes with acoustic guitar. Pigs On The Wing parts 1 & 2, Wish You Were Here, Hey You, Dogs, Fearless to name a few.
Learning To Fly off the same Momentary Lapse of Reason album is one of my favourite Pink Floyd songs period.
I’ll just keep suggesting it lol, Pink Floyd “Dogs” is amazing.
Beautiful song with a beautiful message!
One of the Greatest Band of all time . Everytime u close ur eyes they take to somewhere that will fill your soul .!there is one other band that my friends and I feel that do that . And that’s the band Tool . It’s more of a Heaver vibe but u feel there music ..There a band u guys should react to . I known u two will love them !
You guys have to react to "Shine on you crazy diamond". It is for sure one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs!
Nobody compares to Pink Floyd!!! My favorite band as well as my favorite musician of all time in David Gilmour!!! So many great bands out there but there is only ONE PINK FLOYD!!! LOVE THAT YOU GUYS GET IT!!!
I've seen two live versions of this. Pulse and Delicate Sound Of Thunder, both are epic with mind blowing solos.
My god when that electric guitar hit mid way, just dirty that man is a rock god
Such an amazing anthem.
On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we won't understand
Don't accept that what's happening
Is just a case of others' suffering
Or you'll find that you're joining in
The turning away
It's a sin that somehow
Light is changing to shadow
And casting its shroud
Overall we have known
Unaware how the ranks have grown
Driven on by a heart of stone
We could find that we're all alone
In the dream of the proud
On the wings of the night
As the daytime is stirring
Where the speechless unite in a silent accord
Using words, you will find, are strange
Mesmerized as they light the flame
Feel the new wind of change
On the wings of the night
No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It's not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there'll be
No more turning away?
P.S. If you're questioning the acoustic Jay, clearly you haven't heard Wish You Were Here.
Amazing song! I love it! I can listen to it every day.
This will make you smile. Fun fact before this South London boy goes to beddy byes. David Gilmour was the tea boy at the studio where Pink Floyd were recording. He used to do odds & sods about the place. Like making cups of tea & coffee. Done well the lad. Don't you think?
Love this album. You need to hear , Just another movie off this album.
Beautiful song and the lyrics touch the soul and make you think.
You have to listen to the song Sorrow. Probably my all time favorite Floyd song. That initial rift to Sorrow is Mind Blowing!!
My favorite song of all time
I've been wanting to tell you both that you really need to listen to the song sorrow by Pink Floyd and do the live pulse version it will blow your mind
Check out David Gilmour Live in Gdansk, Great Day For Freedom, and Pink Floyd Pulse concert Keep Talking, and i know youve done Comfortably Numb, but you havent heard the Best version until you hear it Live! Pulse concert was an out of body experiance! Gilmour had a spiritual moment during the second Solo. Then they followed Numb with Run Like Hlell which was Amazing!! Love yall and all you do!!
David is for real a "Magic Man", but the whole group is incredible!! David as you may not know sold a mansion he owned and gave money to charity. More recently he auctioned a big part of his guitar collection to give to charity!!!!
Thanks so much! One Slip from this same album/cd has very special meaning to me.
