My mother first heard this when she was 90..asked if it could be played at her funeral. I am pleased to say, he old, large church had a PA system that did the song justice.☺
This tour has the backup singers of any tour. Definitely the best rendition of "Great Gig in the Sky" ever. Rachel Fury, Durga McBroom and Margaret Taylor.
The stage presentation of this classic is just marvelous. Just a single voice in the dark by David, then two voices and finally the whole band and crowd. The solo is perfection and leaves me wanting it to never end.
Love your reaction that it is hard to take their songs in because it is the truth and truth is difficult to accept. Humans need to be challenged and prompted to take action, otherwise we are reticent to others suffering.
I was at this show. Actually, I was at all 5 of them. They played 5 shows and wore the same clothes for every show. When it came time to mix the live album and make the film they chose the best versions from all the nights.
I adore this song. My brother loved Pink Floyd and sang this song all the time. Sadly, he died soon after this was released at a relatively young age 😔.....everytime I hear this it reminds me of him,I'm sure his spirit is around when I hear it!!!!! Great reaction again 👍
I was fortunate enough to have seen Pink Floyd on this tour and it was truly epic. If I remember correctly, they played for 3 hours with a break in the middle. What a night!!
Hi you guys it's Rob from Iowa again your husband was wondering how they and other bands come up with these guitar links and drum rhythm, I'm a rock drummer from. Way back I played in a band I Phoenix Arizona in the 80s ,I know when we wrote music it started with a bass line ,or a guitar lick or just some one of us messing around practicing at home or just at practice and once we all hear what the person invisions you start bare bones and just add on from nothing until it sounds close to what the person heard or felt in thier head ,sometimes it's the emotional connection, you guys are great to watch ,your husband is very emotional like me I'll start crying on some songs just like him man I could hang with you people I think you great in the realm of music . Pink floyd has been with me since the mid 70s so I've heard all of them and seen them live in Phoenix it's like a out of body experience, love your channel your doing great ,TTFN
Wonderful reaction, as always. This song is as relevant today as it was 35 years ago (sadly). I feel like it should be an anthem for regular people everywhere. Rick on the keyboards, Nick on the drums, both just splendid, and another one of David's many amazing solos - the guitar seems to sing of outrage at the turning away, but also of hope that we can do better, a rallying cry. Machan's scream near the end, at the moment of peak energy, always gives me goosebumps and sends a thrill up my spine - that is a "wow" moment! You're wrong about one thing though - we do get you, you have become Floydians and we all feel the same. Shine On!
Imagine if you will a video that has over 12 MILLION views in 3 years since the upload was remastered. That's a staggering 10,000+ views A DAY. Pure genius. This in full transparency is my favorite Pink Floyd song and the solo is 100% emotion. Loved your video. Amazing how a song written then applies to todays society. Turn towards, not away. Pray for your fellow man. Good is truly good.
Pink Floyd is in a category all their own. You can not say what type of music they are because they are just Floyd. Pink Floyd is an out of this world journey you go on.
They Leave you "Speechless", When I seen this " Live ", I Left The Show " Feeling ALIVE Again, I Get Depressed Sometimes, But that "Song", Brought Me " Back to Life" It Made me realize, "My Life, Isn't so Bad after all"!!
Floydians understand how you feel! Even though we have been listening to them for 30, 40 and even 50+ years we still don't have the words either. They are a gift and somehow some way know how to touch your soul, mind and heart. I am not aware of a more complete band. Just keep listening and enjoying this awesome band!! I turn 70 today and I have been listening to this unbelievable music since I was 18 and will continue to do so until I leave this world.
Robert, I'm 51 and Floyd was my very first concert when I was 7. I fell in love with their music then and have never stopped listening. I bet I've bought close to 20 albums, cassettes and CD's of Dark Side and The Wall.....each. Why? People would borrow them and never return them.
I'm 73 this year, and I've been listening to them since their early days. But I have to say that something happened to them with the release of Dark Side of the Moon. OMG. I had never heard anything like it. They were playing music and communicating in way that no one else had. Exquisite poetry set to music. In their off the charts talent and creativity, they stood alone and soared above the insipid and low talent / no talent run of crass pop.
100% you are correct Dominika ... When you open the door to these lyrics you have a responsibility to react to the message... You ignore it or you do what your heart knows is right to do. Pink Floyd are masters at it. Love your reactions guys
Probably Pink Floyd's most beautiful song in my opinion. Please also check out Coming Back To Life from the Pulse concert...another stunningly beautiful song.
One their best, IMHO, and always chills when David comes in with the start of that guitar solo! Over the years David has really 'put his money where his mouth is' and either raised, or given, millions of dollars to help with homelessness!! Great reaction and commentary as usual!
The Delicate Sound of Thunder was my very favorite concert video before Pulse. It is so good. At a PF concert you become a part of the show. They have lights and planes and all kinds of things going on. You can't see it all and you don't want to look away from David. So good.
A speechless reaction like you had from 4:34 to 4:42 says a lot. Thanks again to both of you. Don't feel bad if you can't find the words to describe the effect Pink Floyd has on you. This is exactly how we too feel when we listen to Pink Floyd. One thing is certain, David's guitar strings seem to connect directly with my soul.
I've been fortunate enough to have gone to a lot of great concerts over the years, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Allman Brothers just to mention a few, but I really regret not seeing Pink Floyd in person!
"Is it only a dream that there'll be no more turning away?" I watch so many reactions to this and the vast majority miss it. You both felt it. Great reaction! ❤
"It's not enough just to stand and stare..." The lyrics, the sounds, the beat, the feeling of it ALL. No explanation needed. It touches your SOUL. Period.
I tell you what moves me to tears is the amazing power of the backing vocalists. The whole thing is perfection. The best musicians who gel together. Many super groups made up of famous people have been put together over the years but their styles of playing clash.....not so with Floyd.
This song and version blows my mind every time The whole band are out of this world When the girls sing its just so emotional Relevant today and for ever💛💛💙💙
You ARE smart! That’s why it hits you so much. I really enjoy your honest reactions. I’ve heard this song hundreds of time but I was crying with you. Such a beautiful song and sentiment.
More than one guitar, 2 set of drums , and 2 key boards this is Pink Floyd with their emotional song. David Gilmour, Nick Mason on drums , and Richard Wright on key board are musical geniuses. Thank you for reacting this song, i appreciate your reaction on: One Of These Days from their Pulse concert.
You two are so beautiful pink floyd has the ability to make us all wear our hearts on our sleeves I think in a way they are trying to make a difference through their music and especially through their lyrics they have an incredible talent your reaction is fabulous and so honest this wonderful track is absolutely about the less fortunate in the world and how blind selfish and uncaring the human race can be lesson's to learn for all of us
That reaction was PERFECT.... From struggling to express how you felt, you actually told me everything that you felt. Perfect band on their own level, no-one else can touch them. they are unique.
Best thing said about their music and song messages "if you allow that truth to open that door, then you have to do something about it, but it's easier for people to stay ignorant because then they don't have to do anything about it"
This has always been my favourite PF track, beautiful meaningful lyrics and the most feeling guitar solo I've ever heard, how David gets so much soul from a guitar is beyond me.
I have listened to and enjoyed Pink Floyd for a long time and, like you, I find it difficult to describe what it is that makes their music so compelling. I think perhaps they just have a deeper understanding of what it means to be human, and what's more, they possess the genius to be able to express that understanding through their music.
Perfectionist is the operative word when discussing Pink Floyd. No matter how you feel about individual songs, they are always done with perfection. As are their live shows.
When I taught senior secondary school social studies, I used this brilliant song, in the human rights section of the course, to highlight the different treatment that groups in societies receive from other groups. Of course, the stunning guitar solos helped to win the students over.
As David begins to sing the silky smoothness of his voice along with the subtle tones of the backing music instantly mellows you into the transcendental mood of this song, mirrored by Dominika's smile that appears at this moment.
What happens to people as they really listen to Pink Floyd is amazing you get that across even with broken English and sometimes I think it's much better. Great artists come from all countries and languages I recently came across a Norwegian native artist and humanitarian Angelina Jordan her heritage is Norwegian, Japanese, Iraqi, and Swedish. Angelina sings in 5 languages and speaks fluently in English and Norwegian. I followed her from 5 years old to the present age of 18 and you only have to imagine the language barriers but we are all better humans for the experience of learning to understand one another. Great reaction.
Your reaction was wonderful and honest! Your honesty and caring is what makes you such great reactors and obviously great people! imo the best song from the best band ever!
I was born in 1958 and was a teenager in the 1970s when Pink Floyd turned the world on its ear with Dark Side of the Moon. So I know all of the great Classic Rock standards, and it is the best music I have ever heard and leaves rap and hip hip so far in the dust they are irrelevant. But On the Turning Away is, IMHO, the greatest Classic Rock song of all time. The music, the words, the other worldly guitar solo from David Gilmour ... what can any human say other than I think God inspired them to write this song and put together this live performance to explain some part of what He wants from us. Let it motivate you to do good for a needy person today and you will actually feel like you have done something real and meaningful in this largely futile world. 👀💖🎸🎸😉
I can see why my aunt and uncle went to see Pink Floyd in concert in '88...I should've asked them to get me a ticket, but I was overseas serving in the military back then and probably wouldn't have been able to go...what a great concert, a great performance, and a super-GREAT band...The Pink Floyd concert is a once in a lifetime experience...thankfully, I can watch them here on RUclips...you two always give great commentary in your reaction videos...thanks for sharing!! (also, if you have a chance, we would like to see if you could do a reaction video from this same Pink Floyd concert (1987 or 1988) performing the song, 'Dogs of War'...the lyrics are very relevant to what's going on in today's world...(as are a lot of their songs lyrics) ✌☺
After seeing Floyd first in 1972 and then quite a few times until this concert in 1994, quite brilliant. I feel very privileged to have lived through these times. Really pleased you enjoyed it.
I was your basic bumbling 14 or 15 year old when I discovered Pink Floyd. MIND BLOWN OPEN. They were the first force in my life that prompted me to think very deeply. They didn't cause me to think bigger, just further and deeper...cosmic yet introspective at the same time. It took me places other "popular" music could not.
Once I found your channel, I found your long list of Pink Floyd/David Gilmour reactions. THIS is the one I looked for the most. I was very excited to know your reaction of this particular song, given your commentary on other Pink Floyd music and with all of the craziness going on in the world. This song is better suited for "today" than for the period it was actually written. I guess that is what is often meant by "timeless". :) Great reaction and commentary, to you both :)
Sometimes, words alone cannot express the beauty of a painting, the majesty of a mountain scene, the powerful force of waves upon a beach, the taste of your favorite food. The beauty and pleasure are tied to the experience!
You should watch more of The Delicate Sound of Thunder Tour. I like it even better than Pulse. It was the first tour after Roger left. It was great to see the band so relaxed and smiling at each other all the time.
The back up vocals are so so good on this one. Angelic.
Rachel
Pink floyd, the irreplaceable great band of the 20th century..... I will never forget Pink floyd🎸🎸🎸✌️😢
My favorite PF song, and specifically this live version from DSOT.
SIMPLY THE BEST BAND EVER !!!!
100 percent Agree!
Pink Floyd and then....the rest. Simply the best band ever and forever
Absolutely without a doubt!
Facts...my forever favorite ❤
My mother first heard this when she was 90..asked if it could be played at her funeral. I am pleased to say, he old, large church had a PA system that did the song justice.☺
Transcendant, to descrbe for me.The Music. It is like a view from above the music hearing Floyd. 50+ years, always a fan😁🤘🎸
You don't listen to Pink Floyd, you experience Pink Floyd!!!. Great reaction 👏
The lucky people who attended a Pink Floyd concert didn't just watch it.
They lived it.
Yes they did. But so did we.
I was one of them and yes I consider myself to be lucky. Extremely lucky that I have seen them 4 times live.
Been there too 👍👍
Love your reaction that it is hard to take their songs in because it is the truth and truth is difficult to accept. Humans need to be challenged and prompted to take action, otherwise we are reticent to others suffering.
I was at this show. Actually, I was at all 5 of them. They played 5 shows and wore the same clothes for every show. When it came time to mix the live album and make the film they chose the best versions from all the nights.
Who or what defines the “best version”?
@@dullaf4099 Not sure. You’d have to ask Gilmour I guess. He mixed the songs for the album.
we were lucky to live the same time Pink Floyd was playing these songs
My my yes we were.
Amen
If you get bored sample Robin Tower
I adore this song. My brother loved Pink Floyd and sang this song all the time. Sadly, he died soon after this was released at a relatively young age 😔.....everytime I hear this it reminds me of him,I'm sure his spirit is around when I hear it!!!!!
Great reaction again 👍
This comment got me a bit teary-eyed. My brother has depression, so I'm always checking on him.
@-CrippledNinja- ....its brother thing😔....keep keeping an eye on yours......deep down he knows your a good one......and he loves you for it👏👏👏👍

Your Brother is looking after you from Heaven above, greetings from Austria
@@-CrippledNinja-coming back to life helped me coping, that and a father and brother that listened. Hope he finds hes way
I was fortunate enough to have seen Pink Floyd on this tour and it was truly epic. If I remember correctly, they played for 3 hours with a break in the middle. What a night!!
Crazy isn’t it? Just how damn good they are. David is untouchable
Pink Floyd and this song can invoke so much emotion. They can make your soul bleed.
Pink Floyd its an heavenly experience with lights and sound. Without a doubt, the best band in the world.
Grateful dead 🍄
Dire straits
Pink Floyd isn't the greatest band ever... they are another dimension.
Without Question. The greatest live band in the history of music.

Strong message, beautiful song

David Gilmour is a demigod of guitar. what a feeling!!!

@ 13:40 its a nice touch taping the harmonic note on the 18th fret
you are exactly right about what you said, I have been listening to them for years and they still get to me! ✌️🌹
Such a powerful and emotional song
Every Pink Floyd track is an emotional journey. They take you through an entire spectrum of feelings.
Pink Floyd evoke nostalgia. A yearning to a realm that has never been, but is sitting right there, just beyond reach, lasting but one song at a time.
What a brilliant way to describe them. Your absolutely spot on.👏👏👏👍👍
Excactly man! Nostalgia

Spiritual music, no matter what your beliefs. Their music hits at the essence of who we are. If it makes you emotional, congratulations! You're human!

IMO the guitar solo on this performance is better than any I have heard of Comfortably Numb. This always makes me cry! 😢
You should watch more of The Delicate Sound of Thunder Tour. I like it even better than Pulse. It was the first tour after Roger left. It was great to see the band so relaxed and smiling at each other all the time.
This song and a few other pink floyd songs can bring a tear to my eyes. Mother is one that comes to mind along with shine on you crazy diamond
FEELING!!
On the Turning Away continues the sentiment from the song Us and Them.
