You cry when you listen to Pink Floyd because they are simply one of the best at producing real music that touches us all on a deep personal and emotional level. Gilmour plays with conviction, he plays what he means and means what he plays.

you're not alone. It's a common response to Floyd. Gilmour is a master at evoking emotion. His guitar literally sings.
The tears mean you're doing it right. Fine musicians are not just making pleasant sounds. They are trying with everything in them; the lyrics, the music, the staging, and the performance; to convey an emotion; to make you feel something. Some people won't let themselves have the experience but, If you're open to it, it's an experience like no other. Thanks for being open.

I'm 75. Look out over the vast, unimaginative, dull, dreary pop/hip-hop musical landscape of the past 30 years. Then listen to Pink Floyd. You now understand why many in my generation weep for yours. How amazing that young people today are discovering the music that has enriched the lives of Boomers for many years. Enjoy your journey!
The music floating on top is always a mix of forgettable and greatness, and that is true today, as it was then. The 70s was a particularly magical decade, but there was an epic ton of crap then as well. That's all been filtered out by now though.
It's comforting to know a younger generation is experiencing this heart-felt music.
I would say the reason you get emotional with their music is that it’s touching your soul and it resonates with you deeply. I feel the same and have for 50 years.
It’s lovely to see a beautiful young woman who is open emotionally to the music of a bunch of old, British guys who wrote their best work 50 years ago….it says a lot about you and them…a deep communication across the ages, nations, sexes. Brava Stacey, you’ve tumbled down one of the most astonishing and rewarding rabbit holes on Earth…enjoy the journey!

Agreed. Pulse gets most of the hype, but this concert is so good, and the three ladies on vocals are incredible, especially on that song.

Yes, although Pulse is a better overall production, the musical performance on The Delicate Sound of Thunder, imho, is superior.

Believe me, when David lets rip, there's hardly a dry eye in the house! During the Pulse tour (yes, I was there THAT night!), I saw grown men weeping on each other's shoulders - not too clearly because I was sobbing all the way through it myself. The whole night was so overwhelming. It was a religious experience.
I can confirm this...I wasn't at the Earl's Court show that became the Pulse show, but I saw them on the Division Bell tour, on which they did the exact same show...It was just as magical as you think it'd be.

There was my life before seeing them in Tampa in 1994 and then my life after
I was at their Earl's Court, London gig in 1994 when the gig was pulled as the intro to the show was underway because there had been a partial seat collapse. No serious injuries thankfully.
We all came back 2 weeks later.
It's like a two hour trip, Stacey. Tears don't come into it when it's vibrating live through your body.
Mind you, we were also stoned off our faces which probably contributed to the experience😂 But al these years later listening and watching this and you on my phone i still feel the same sensations.

You are not the only one who is crying . David Gilmours guitar playing is not from this world. I would recommend to watch the live version of "High Hopes" and "The Great Gig In The Sky" from the Pulse Concert. Thanks for your wonderful reaction. Lets dive in the world of Pink Floyd :)
Agreed on both songs. However, I would choose High Hopes live from David Gilmour Live from either Remember That Night dvd or Live in Gdansk with whole orchestra. Either is a masterpiece. Especially with classical guitar ending. On Great Gig in the Sky. I think new comers should be introduced with original studio recording from Dark Side of the Moon to showcase Clare Torry's phenomenal vocal performance. Heck, Stacey should do WHOLE Darkside album. We'll need a whole box of tissues for that one. And then 2 boxes of tissues for Shine On You Crazy Diamond alone.

@dskellfloyd.9347 Amused to Death is one of my favs. Beck is great on It's A Miracle and Three Wishes. Though I do think Gilmour would elevate to a whole new level. My taste. Your taste may be different. That's the beauty of art. Something for everyone.
David Gilmore has mastered the art of playing with quality of notes, not quantity. Nobody puts notes in echelon like he does. He is the best.

As usual, a phenomenal reaction and a wonderful way of explaining your experience of music. I am 65 years old... my youth and growing up were marked by Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple... under the influence of these I became a musician (drummer) myself... I played professionally for about thirty years... now retired myself...I want to say that I am extremely glad to see that a person as young as you responds remarkably to the music of these bands and recognizes without fail all the true values in their music. Once again- well done Stacy and keep it up!

And yes - you should in some way (a little) regret not growing up at that time because your soul and your sensibility are obviously very close to those times ... but as you are she herself said - it's never too late ... thanks to modern technologies you have the opportunity to discover all the beauty of former music when people really played and were really engaged in real art and not computers (let's be clear - I have nothing against modern technologies - I use them a lot myself )...just keep going - you're on the right track!@@StaceyRPGReacts

That was also my up bringing, altho my dad didn't like those groups, he was a Beatles only man, still today I cannot please him with Pink Floyd. Maybe a little closed personality, because if you can't go into this material, you're probably going to have a bad "trip"

This is why David Gilmour is considered to be one of the all time greats. His emotions come out of his guitar playing. You just feel it deep down to the core. Check out High Hopes from Pulse, or the album version from The Division Bell. Just a beautiful ride!

I'm 67, grew up with Pink Floyd, classical rock and roll is what I've always called it.
It is so gratifying to watch someone discover what sets Pink Floyd apart from other bands. It's the emotion they are able to convey through their music that makes them so special. David Gilmour can tap into your soul with his voice and his guitar.
Hearing someone get reeled in by Pink Floyd and really being able to articulate what they are feeling is so satisfying.
It’s like a time machine taking you back to your own personal experience and reliving that moment.
Pink Floyd is about as rare as it gets for emotive psychological psychedelic music. When listening to them, I often think of how lucky the world is to have this band. I tear up still, and I appreciate them more the older I get. It's insane that the bulk of this transcendent work was stuff they'd written in their 20's. You're definitely still on the tip of the pink iceberg. Great seeing you react, thank you!

Same here, but I heard my first Pink Floyd song in 1977, at 12 years old, when the Album Animals was released and I was absolutely changed by it and all the previous albums I listened to from that day forward. It has never stopped and here I am today being touched in the same way as 50 years ago watching a young person experience what I did 50 years ago.
David wrote music to touch every emotion in every person that listened to it , He would write from life experiences from himself or someone close to him. He never got sidetracked with a different sound or something that didn’t tell a story, every song had a meaning and story to tell and he and the band gave us 10000% percent with every song and every performance never giving anything less. David is a class act , down to earth individual , one of those people who would sit down to lunch with a complete stranger just because you started a conversation with him.

Ive heard all the radio hits but never dived into their whole albums old and newer.boy did I find gold!! the intrumental "marooned" really caught my ear and i put it as nr 1 on a "chill" playlist cos I was planning on doing a psycedelic trip on magic mushrooms for the first time and felt that kinda music would be fitting. as the trip was beginning to brew I put on "marooned" on utube with alot of space pictures from Hubble telescope. OMG.... as the quirky "woooop" sound played at the intro I was thrown into a different experience of music and visuals. it all came together in a amazing trip.my cat that was laying on my foot rest became a fairytale version xD then utube played next song sorrow. also incredible! I was not listening to music,I was having a other wordly experience :D I listen to enitre albums of PF that night. it gave my soul a new life cos I was kinda burnt out and depressed. this was soul medecine in all the levels possible. PF and pcilocybin mushrooms changed my life . a spiritual rebirth :D

I concur about the Nightwish tribute to High Hopes. I used to listen to Pink Floyd's version when Division Bell came out, and saw it live on that tour. A different emotional feel, but David Gilmore apparently liked it. Marko does it justice.
The way we listened to this music back in the day, was on big speakers, attached to a great stereo system, playing vinyl, with a group of friends. Music lovers today really don't know how much of the full experience they are missing. But it's gratifying to see new generations appreciating the timeless rock music from the golden age. Keep exploring, and enjoy - you have a lot of catching up to do. 😉
Thank you for your video. The closest thing I will ever get to hearing this band again for the first time is reliving that experience through someone else who not only hears it but appreciates it the way you do, so thank you for that. For me, when I discovered them way back when, I had never heard a band put together music as full composers, the way the greats put together symphonies. Every instrument has a purpose, every voice. Even the silences and the builds and fades are there to evoke an emotional experience. The genius, the heart, and the touch of madness that made up the soul of this group captures a feeling like no other band. They didn't make songs, they crafted whole albums in a time when you were meant to put the needle down and let it sit for the whole record and go on the journey with them. Thanks for keeping this alive.

The older you get, the more emotional their songs become. None as much as their song "Time". I'm 60 yrs old, heard the song thousands of times, but , until recently, never felt the lyrics as much as I do now

Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a David Gilmour show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"...
I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. Hard to explain how awesome that moment was in my life. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen.
I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold.
Isnt that the prime example of what makes a great artist. They listen, they perceive, they are in tune with the world. It is not about them, it is about the greater creation.
Beyond envious, I saw David 6 times in concert, 4 with Pink Floyd, but never met him, what an awesome memory! He is an example of the very best of humanity, both for his music and for his philanthropy.

Pink Floyd is something you feel, as much as listen to. They make you think, reflect, and have always found the absolute shortest distance between your heart, brain and soul. They are unique in that they elicit so much feeling while still marvelling at the incredible music they created. Been listening to Floyd for over 45 years and I still am moved by them every single day. No idea where my life would be without their music.
67 here and I first heard them as a 17 year old raised on old style country music. Their music is woven into my life and many wonderful memories have their music as a background. Thank you again for such a beautiful reaction.

Your not the first person I’ve seen tear up listening to this band. I’ve seen people absolutely break down bawling for minutes at a time . They just touch peoples emotions with the sound they create. It’s magic
I've said this before and I believe it more now than ever, if the human race survives it's adolescence, in a thousand years, Pink Floyd's music will be heard on a hundred different worlds. It may be already, maybe that's why we have "visitors", they come for the groovy tunes.
You hit the nail on the head. The emotion that this band and especially this song bring forth, is just unexplainable. Truly one of the best bands of all time.

I watched this video again because it's so unbelievably rewarding to see people getting hooked on Pink Floyds music. I grew up in the 80's and have been into music for as long as I can recall, and I can honestly say that I have never come across any other band quite like them. There are a lot of really good bands and musicians out there, but these guys, for me, are it! No other comes close. Like you, I'm at a loss why their music has such an impact on me, but it does. It is sublime and it goes straight to the heart!!

I still cherish all my original, first edition albums from the 60s and 70s, etc. So glad you're enjoying Pink Floyd and others.
As others have commented, the backup singers are brilliant and it's easy to miss them but once you listen for them they play a very significant part in the song.
ABSOLUTELY!!! PF has layer-upon-layer of tones, levels, acoustic, electric, percussion, keyboard, performers take their turns at being front-and-center in a song. And you-know-who gets the lion's share of the #1 position, and rightfully so.
As a Floydian it's so amazing to watch you discover my favourite band! As other floydians suggested, check next 2 emotional songs: Time and The great gig in the sky. They are from their iconic album: The dark side of the moon and in fact, they float from one to another so it's good to liaten them together :)

I’m 61 years old. Started listening to my oldest sister’s albums. Pink Floyd hit me around 10 years of age. I’ve had this same reaction for the last 51 years. I’m still amazed at their music. I love to play their music on my acoustic guitars. I understand your reaction, I have it all the time.
From a very very old metal rock head, who has experienced Pink Floyd live 3 times and their songs millions of times. I’m so glad your revisiting Pink Floyd and yes you will get emotional, Pink Floyd is all about the experience of the song, so enjoy the tears as I have again from a very very old biker metal head. Your not tearing up along but your supported by millions of Pink Floyd fans who are tearing up along side you. I’m really enjoying your discovery of this multigenerational band. 5:21 I’m so glad you have a shout out to the drums! Nick Mason is the reason why I got into Pink Floyd and drumming in general. His drumming has such a powerful rhythm and an ear-catching sound that you can’t resist. It always saddens me more reactors don’t give him mentions and/or shout outs. His performance in “Time” from Pulse where it’s shown he plays rototoms in the beginning deserves to be watched soon.

To watch you hear David Gilmour's magic for the first time, and discover what so many of us already know, and have known for a very very long time .......... and watching the tears of joy fall down your face. Brings tears to my eyes. Such a beautiful thing, such amazing music.
I have been listening to Pink Floyd for over 40 years. My absolute favorite band of all time. Had the privilege of seeing them live in 1994 at the Divisional Bell concert in Nashville, TN. I shared that concert with my best friend who had been diagnosed with cancer. He only lived 2 years after our experience in Nashville. Hearing them now is very emotional for me as it brings back memories of my best friend. Seeing you get emotional brings me to tears as well. Just the fact that it affects you as it does me speaks highly for the musicianship of the band. No band has quite had an effect on me like Pink Floyd. 5:06 because Mr Gilmour has one of the most embracing welcoming voices in the world. He has perfected his skill over decades, to sound like your friend before you even met him. His guitar is the same, he has known from day one, what a warm pleasant sound is. You don't have to show off or flex with crazy speed, he just sounds beautiful. Every note he plays on guitar is done with intention, emotion, none are wasted, and he is doing it for the audience, no self indulgence...there is a reason why he is a living legend.
Nothing compares to Pink Floyd live. They are so genuine.

Another fantastic reaction, if you dont want more tears then please stay away from High Hopes from the Pulse Concert that is a true masterpiece, regarding vocalists not outshining the lead vocal its great to see how David sits back and watchers the vocalists on Great Gig in the Sky also on the pulse concert so much respect given to them by him on that track, great thing with Pink Floyd is if you are feeling low and down, listening to a few of their songs on Pulse or watching people like yourself relive what i felt when i first saw them is such an uplifting healing process

It's real sound, real music, played by real people. I heard them live back in the 80's - best memories from a concert ever. Note about the drum sound, in addition to the drummer Nick Mason, they had Gary Wallis on percussion. You can see him occasionally, usually standing in his large drum rig. Greetings from Norway.

Was lucky enough to hear Floyd play "On The Turning Away" live at the Pulse Concert at Earls Court in October 1994, the set of concerts that you see "Comfortably Numb" on with the Giant Mirror Ball coming down from the ceiling during Gilmour's solo and I was sitting directly opposite the giant mirror ball in the top balcony on the left hand side looking towards the stage..!! The Pulse concert from lights, lasers, explosions, pyrotechnics, special effects, flying Spitfire, Giant Wild Boars each side of the stage and then the music which has to go down as the GREATEST CONCERT OF ALL TIME..!! PS "On The Turning Away" which is one of my favourite songs brought tears to my eyes like many 100's of other people and Gilmour's solo went on for 7mins..ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, Still sends shivers down my spine 30years later
I was at their Earl's Court, London gig in 1994 when the gig was pulled as the intro to the show was underway because there had been a partial seat collapse. No serious injuries thankfully.
We all came back 2 weeks later.
It's like a two hour trip, Stacey. Tears don't come into it when it's vibrating live through your body and the electricity of all those people reacting so passionately is mind blowing
Mind you, we were also stoned off our faces which probably contributed to the experience😂 But all these years later listening and watching this and you on my phone i still feel the same sensations.
And no weed smoking for over 10 years now😉😅

The backup lady singers are Angels from the heavens, we floydians know their incredible contribution whereas in a lot of bands they may be overlooked or just fade into the background Floyd make sure they are part of the soul of the band and are an integral part of the experience. One part in an array of wonderful complimantary muciscal genius. Youre reaction to these songs is incredible and takes me back to my first experiences being privilaged to be on this earth with such incompressible talent. We truely are lucky to be alive to witness this other wordly experience 🙏

Apart from Pink Floyd's stunning musical ability, you have to factor in the intense, meaningful lyrics and harmonies.. It really all does penetrate and infuse the listener with high emotion

Thats why i consider them the best band ever. There lyrics and musicianship is second to none. The back up singers really add so much depth to the song. They're are almost angelic when they harmonize together in this song. Brings tears to my eyes also. Beautiful reaction. You have only scratched the surface of the pink floyd catalog. Keep em coming.

My wife wasn’t a big fan until I played the PulseDVD and she was hooked forever like me with a surround system hooked up it’s incredible sound.On the turning away I tear up every time.

I'm 54 and I have been listening to Pink Floyd since I was 14 so for 40 years I have enjoyed their music. I love David's guitar Solos. He cam take you on an almost our of body experience transcending time and space make you almost feel as if you are flying. I have always loved them and I always will.they are unlike any other band out there. They deffinately broke the mold with David and he does it so effortlessly ! Seen them in 86 in St. LOUIS MO. and itches unlike any other concert I have ever attended. The crown was literally mesmerized! I'm deffinately a FLOYDIAN for life ❤
