    Love this song, totally under-rated in the Pink Floyd pantheon. So meaningful too, the last few lines are just perfect.
    No more turning away
    From the weak and the weary
    No more turning away
    From the coldness inside
    Just a world that we all must share
    It's not enough just to stand and stare
    Is it only a dream that there'll be
    No more turning away?

      Nothing, EVER about ANY PF song has EVER been underrated!!! The term that those of us not living in a 5th grade intellectual and emotional cocoon would properly use is "underappreciated".

    • @lorenlash9174

      @@Wolverines77 That was profoundly judgmental...semantics. You DO understand the intention behind the statement. Seems you missed the essence in this song. I hate when people make idiotic comments. It was a platinum selling album, and the song was all over MTV and VH1. It won many awards as well. So no the song wasn't "under-rated".

    • @jeremyjames1659
      @jeremyjames1659 2 года назад

      The person claimed the song was "under-rated" even though it won many awards, and was played almost non stop in rotation on VH1 and MTV. Obviously the person who made the comment was clueless, and the 77 people who liked it as well. All I ask is that people know what they're talking about before they comment. Is that too much to ask?

    I didn’t fully understand this song until I got diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Now at 48 and walking long distances is a thing of the past and year by year I feel it getting worse no matter how I much I work out. I understand now. Sometimes life puts you somewhere you never expected. People tend to disappear when things change. It’s easy to turn away from what we don’t understand. I did too.

      One of the few pros to being old for people who capitalized on it,was being able to attend concerts....when the very best to ever do it,were all out at the same time,at the top of their game and doing their best work.We had an abundance of treasures,that we really couldn't explain even if we told you about it.While it's nice to have a record of, it's another thing entirely to be there live to witness it.... unobstructed by trying to get a crappy recording on a cell phone,and paying attention instead.At our end, it's only our experiences that we can take with us.I feel sorry for those who spent their youth playing video games and staring into phones...living a vicarious life.Is that enough to base a movie on? Would people want to see it?

I enjoy getting older in ways, I know things, I’ve lived things. I grew up in a better time, there were only 2 sexes, and no one ever heard the word” gender”. I have trouble adjusting to the world as it is, and there isn’t much good music either..Do you see another “Pink Floyd” on the horizon?

    • @matthewteague623
      @matthewteague623 2 года назад +5

      The root of the problem isn't hate as such. It's indifference, and helplessness. When feel that there's an endless black hole of need that can never be met.... it's... easier to just shut yourself off from it. It's a human, all-too-human coping mechanism.

    • @benmorgan1502

      You're right, it was once acceptable to openly hate and degrade black people... and now its acceptable to openly hate and degrade white people. Neither should be acceptable but hate was and will always be a part of human nature. Maybe we should stop learning from history and start living in the present and the hate could be minimized.

    Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a P.F. show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"...
    I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen.
    I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold.

    This album 'Momentary lapse of reason' in 1987 was a big comeback for Pink Floyd without founding bassist/ vocalist Roger Waters... David Gilmour, Richard Wright & Nick Mason put a new record together w/ session musicians & producers, and it turned out to be a bigger success than anything Roger Waters had put out (the album has sold over 4 million copies in the US)... Floyd had not toured since 1980 (?) and they were welcomed back by their legions of fans w/ massive shows... a double live album "Delicate sound of thunder' was released and is one of the greatest live records in music history 🔥🔥🎸🎸

    Turning away is what compassionate people do when they perceive the need for help is endless. They have big hearts and would give all they have to help someone in need, but they fear that some problems are so big that they would be completely drained if they got involved. Turning away is a defense mechanism.
    I grew up in a small town where people would do anything to help a neighbor. Then I moved to a bigger city and there was more of everything. More successful people, more people struggling, more life on display all around. The challenge for each of us, and humanity in general is to find a way to continue helping our neighbors without either exhausting ourselves or turning away.
    Humans didn't evolve in groups of a hundred thousand, or more. We naturally operate on a family level or a tribal level. But we are in the modern world now and there's no going back. We'll have to stay engaged and find ways to channel the power of these huge societies we live in to give everyone a better chance for happiness and prosperity.

      I think you were right, 1988. That was the one and only time seeing them live. Such a shame. I've seen Roger Waters a handful of times on his own. Enjoyed those shows immensely as well. If I was even 10 years older I may have been able to see Pink Floyd in all their glory.

    Floyd's music is like psychedelic gospel music. The 60's had that element to it a lot of times like Joplin, Mamas and Papas, or Jefferson Airplane. Deep stuff.

    Great point, Brad. There are some things that we, as individuals, can help deal with. A neighbour that needs help with food to get by until payday is an excellent example. Solving the problem of "food deserts" and overall hunger in America? That's going to take a lot more money, and a lot more resources than individuals could reasonably provide.

    My great uncle Buford Jones worked on this album. As well as the live album they recorded after this album called delicate sound of thunder. He's a world famous sound engineer he's considered a legend in the music industry. I asked him a few years ago who he was with May of 86 when I was born. He had to think about it he told me he started working with Pink Floyd March of 86.....I was like that's badass!!

    Yes, Pink Floyd. Their "Dark Side of The Moon" Lp is a Masterpiece & Sound Painting Ahead of its Time. It had the Longest Stay on the Top Selling Charts, David Gilmour Favors The Fender Stratocaster Guitar and his Solo on "Time" from this LP is Revered by Guitarists. I have their "Animals" Lp, Their "Wish you were Here" Lp is also Great, I like jamming "Shine on you Crazy Diamond" in Key of Gmin. Their 80s Release "The Wall" was a Hit. David Gilmours Guitar Solo on "Another Brick in The Wall & Comfortably Numb" are loved by Guitarists and Musicians. I have their "Pulse; The Wall, & Delicate Sound of Thunder Concerts on DVD! Thank You for giving Pink Floyd a listen. Awesome Band & Musicians!
