Just a note: apparently they have labeled it on the website as being made in China. I honestly don't remember seeing that when I ordered this month's ago but I also probably wasn't looking for it as I, like others, were under the impression that everything was made in Brandsford Pennsylvania

@@David_Downs who "they"? I could not find the "made in" information on Zippo's site. On Amazon page, yes, they do indeed show the side of the insert where the label is. But apart from that Amazon routinely hides and mention of "made in China".

I have had the Zippo butane torch version for acouple years now and it works perfectly and is windproof. I went to the butane version due that damn fluid leaking out on my leg or gear in my pocket. Lighter fluid can leave some pesky skin irritations. One way to look at the china thing, Americans still get paid to assemble, market, ship and even get paid to unload the chinese boat. Good review

If you're looking for a fluid lighter that has the strengths of the Zippo, and very few if any weaknesses, the Exotac Titan light is the deal. Zippo Lighter fluid is $80 a gallon. Zippo inserts use 90 drops to fill. 3 fluid ozs. The Titan light uses 3 milliliters at first fill, and a bottom cap measured fill if you use it up. It uses a #35 O ring, Zippo flints, Exotac wicks. Good news is white gas, aka Coleman fuel ain't $80 a gallon. Transfer to a Zippo can, be happy.

I hate this insert because the wheel and angle of the button hurt my fingers when I try to use it. I purchased the jet insert instead. Works far better and the button is much nicer since it gets the space where the wheel would be. I liked it so much that I purchased a few for some other lighters I keep around. I got rid of the original inserts. Smoking with old-style zippos tastes disgusting. It ruins whatever you’re smoking, especially if it’s a pipe you keep having to hit. Great video, thanks!

Between all other businesses doing it and the fact that Zippo has become far less popular since Bic lighters became a thing, it doesn't surprise me that they had to make that decision.

Sure, they didn't "lie" about it by leaving out the "made in" on that one store page but "Made in USA" is all over the rest of their marketing and they're clearly banking on that.
Again, not a lie but what would you call an omission with expectation that the other party would make the assumption that you'd like them to make?
    E.g.
From the other room: "Benjamin, are you eating that chocolate bar?" "Sir, I am not. (but 6 seconds ago I was, hehe)"

Con number six: there is no flame adjustment on the yellow flame insert. Some reviews on Amazon indicate the flame may be two and a half inches high! Zippo cautions the user to keep the lighter away from your face when lighting. Or risk losing your eyebrows.

  • @brendanosullivan771
    @brendanosullivan771 6 месяцев назад

This insert is well made and looks great but it can't even match the performance of a Bic. The lighter constantly requires multiple strikes to ignite even with a fresh flint. The lighter also cannot be turned upside down as the flame will flicker and go out in 2-3 seconds which makes this insert useless If you are a pipe or bong smoker. The insert also has a tiny fuel tank that is only 20% the size of a Bics tank so it needs to be refilled constantly. On top of that the ignition button is small which makes leads to accidental finger slips and an overall uncomfortable experience. If you are looking for a reliable soft flame lighter the metal clipper is head and shoulders better than this insert and costs half as much.

I have 2 of these and besides the tall flame (which is fine for me, but, it runs out within 3 days, w/ almost no warning) is they get really friggin hard to light after a week or so. Then I flip the flint over and it is fine for awhile. But, I keep wasting 1/2 used flints. Which I find annoying (The old style would use the flints pretty much all up.). These new ones will throw tons of sparks. I don't get why they refuse to light. I also put a blob of JB weld on the button because it is so small and I thought that the excessive amount of free play in the button throw may have been causing the no light issue. And, I took it most of the way apart and I turned the tiny c clip that controls the release of the fuel. But, neither improved the no light issue. Only thing so far that helps is adding fuel or flipping the flint over/replacing it with a new one. Currently, I am only 50% happy with these inserts.

i totally agree with your last con, love it that u r proud usa citizen who wants made in usa products that can keep the job and other stuffs. but there's slight issue with making things in usa, first the cost, if same insert made in usa u would probably paying 10 bugs extra for the same as the labour cost is way high then asian countries.
2- There r only certain product that are made in usa, the number is so low u can count on fingers, except for the software and technology 95% products r made outside usa.
For example usa biggest product till date the iphone, all famous brands laptops, motherboards for pc, processors, powersupply, 99.9% chargers of every device, and the smallest thing which you saw everyday while driving the sewerage covers all those are made in india.
yes they build defence products at home, from jet to drones as that their barganing power over world their stealth non deductable'b2 bombers, nuces, missiles satalite, means defence are made in usa rest just approved by companies but made in china india thiland vietnam, japan, korea,
most of ur biggest brand clothings like armani to what not made in bangladesh.
Even if usa tried to make 10 percent of the product in usa they dont have manpower plus the law that will ruin every company as workers gonna sue every 2nd week. so bo offence i too wanted that what ever i use it should be made in india but usa make china so bigger in output that our coorporate can't compete.
for simple example here there's a medium range eyeglasses lens called Crizal Lenses- u know the simplest basic lens of that brand cost 900rs that is some 11.25 $ but china when send the ship in india the landing cost of 1 pair of same glass is 3.50rs thats 0.04375 $ it goes to wholesale market where the pair cost increase to 13-19rs thats 0.1625 - 0.2375 $ from there to distributor the price turns half dollars and then distributor sells it to shops for 100-150rs thats 1.5-2 dollars and user get for 900rs 11.25$
so how can any country make such cheap product,
i think as far as i know the minimum wage in usa is 7.25$ per hour 8 hour shift = 58 dollar per day 1 worker that is 4640rs in india price, if the start making same lens how much the lens cost to end user 60-100$ per pair and then that product only consume in usa as no devloping country can afford it, and since last 5-10 years even europe can't afford it.
yet i'm glad that usa never handover their defence to anyone else,
whatever product any country make in china they had exact same thing for 10% of cost for their own people, they have their own iphone that just lack in apps and security rest the hardware is same

Only the butane inserts are made in China. All other lighters, cases and inserts, are still U.S. made. I have to disagree with your statement things made in China are good though. They are notorious for copying designs and using subpar materials on the vast majority of manufactured items. Hence the reason most other inserts made in China are bad. Zippo has indeed hooked up with a better company to make these inserts but, are they really that good considering only a 2 year warranty is offered? Zippo U.S. made cases and inserts still carry the lifetime warranty. Obviously they don't believe in these Chinese inserts to last. I don't like the fact they aren't made here but, think ofnthe cost of machinery and initial production output costs to make butane inserts here. If made here they would have had an even HIGHER price tag.

The torches take so many clicks to light, if they light at all. This one lights every time.

I just ordered this on a whim but I assumed it was made in America. China made garbage automatically takes away from this for me.
