  • Some Chuck riffage on the 160. This is my Jackson RR5 straight into the amp no boost or external EQ. Mics are a Sennheiser E609 on a V30 and a GLS Audio ES57 on a G12T-75 panned hard left and right. Pretty heavy, haha!!

    It's weird how i've come around to solid state. I used to think that only tube could create that cool distortion I like, but then I think of the slaughter of the soul tone and I'm like shit it's so articulate, there's no way he could've gotten that sort of articulation with that amount of gain on a tube amp on that album. The clarity of the string definition is what makes it so good for death metal, and zero sag.

      Yeah, there really are some killer solid state tones out there.

    I love old Peaveys. Super versatile as well as affordable. Still have my original Peavey Rage going strong 26 years later.

      @low_e_music  Год назад +1

      Yes, they are still quite affordable. Cool on the Rage too!

      I turn 50 today, I have my original Peavey Supreme 160 head AND cabinet, bought it when I was around 15 years old. This head fuckin rips.

      @tacticalbigfoot I have heard some amazing recordings with the Supreme. Never had the chance to try one. I have an old Peavey Deuce from 1981 that still works like new. Weighs a metric ton though..lol

      That's a pretty solid deal, definitely worth jumping on. I've never played one with the matching cab but I bet it sounds good.

    Love the sound of that amp! Would try and find one but they're hard to come by, and my cab is only rated for 60 watts unfortunately.

    • @low_e_music
      @low_e_music  Год назад +4

      Thanks! As for the amp, there are other options you can get. The Peavey Bandit teal (80 watt) , Peavey Special 112 teal (160 watt), and Peavey Classic Chorus 212 teal (80 watt X 2) all have the same preamp and will sound the same. In fact, the actual main board in the Supreme 160 is from the Special 112 and even says Special 112 on it. It just has a small daughter board that houses the output jacks and impedence selector.
      I believe that the teal Peavey Revolution head is the same preamp as well but they are very hard to come by.

      Wow, didn't know that, thanks so much! Definitely going to check those out, and maybe even pick one up one day.

      @@outwindowd Cool! The Bandits and Special 112s are way more common than the Supreme 160. Usually a lot cheaper too. I think there are a few on FB Market right now for like $100. Good luck!

    One of these heads popped up in the FB marketplace for 300$. Is it worth buying it?? Asking since I heard these amps may be hard to find !!

    • @low_e_music
      @low_e_music  Год назад +1

      Yeah, that's a pretty good deal. 5 or so years ago, you could get these for like $100-200 but now that people are discovering how good they are and that they're not super available anymore, prices are going up. I would jump on it if I were you. It's basically a solid state version of the Ultra 60/120.

    Without doing any research, this looks like my Teal stripe Bandit as a head with more watts. That about right?

    • @low_e_music
      @low_e_music  Год назад +1

      Yep, just has double the output transistors. It is literally a Peavey Special 112 in head form. Same main board, just with a small daughter board for the output jacks and impedence selector.

    What Pickups? Is the two notes captor x being used?

    • @low_e_music
      @low_e_music  Год назад

      The RR5 has a JB in the bridge. The Captor was not being used, just live mics.
