Marty was always my favorite metal guitarist. I look at his solos on the Rust in Peace album like he looks at Ace Frehly's solos. Especially Hangar 18. Jesus he's so melodic.

"My finger just would not hold down the string, and it hurt so incredibly bad, that I'm like 'Well, I guess I'm not cut out for guitar because there's no way my finger can do it.'"
A sentiment every beginner has had - just focus on other stuff, then come back to what's giving you trouble and you might just find it's easy. If not, keep focusing on other stuff and come back to it. Repeat as necessary.

I remember seeing Megadeth after Marty had left the band. I was excited to see them again but also disapointed knowing that no one will ever be able to play those riffs like Marty. That still holds true to this day.

Ah yes, the A-form barre chord. Glad to know I wasn't the only one who felt it was impossible. Took me a whole summer to get it down. There's no other way to play the Ramones authentically, so it had to be done!

1st solo ever for me was STRUT by Bob Seger. Actually, playing along with my Dads Bob Seger albums is what kicked it off, lol

It’s endearing that an aficionado of Marty’s talent took his inspiration from the Ramones-and that he ever got tripped up by a Ramones riff haha.

God the guy's a legend. Playing Ramones riffs with THAT much delay and not batting an eyelid. Easily most interesting lead guitarist in metal.
