SUR RON TURBO MODE BUTTON!

- Just picked up a Luna Sur-Ron X and out of the box the lower power mode is fine, but you can cut a wire in the harness for high power mode. But instead of running high power 100% of the time, I wired in a switch so you can toggle back and forth. One mode to conserve power, the other for TURBO/High Power Mode.
Parts List:
Rocker On/Off Switch (Must buy 10pc, but CHEAP): amzn.to/2sPLpzj
Solderless Waterproof Wire Connectors: amzn.to/2SjYAn0
Tessa Tape: amzn.to/2sTx9Wp - Авто/Мото
That's really clever I dint know why I haven't seen this done yet... very nicely done.
I was thinking of doing this but wasn't sure if it would work. Your video confirms that it does though I am not thrilled about the idea of making a hole in my battery cover. I'd prob feel better if I could find a water proof switch. Thanks for sharing!
It's called the "valet" mode (the slow setting) & if you put the switch where it is inaccessible while riding you can use it to make the bike "legal' for some areas bike paths. If you can operate the switch while riding the bike, it is not legal for those bike paths. I don't need any throttle/traction or forced conservation control except my right arm so, I use full power & threw the "eco" switch away. The valet switch is locked away under my battery cover.
Thanks ! I actually just use my on trails and not the street, but good idea for those who ride it in public though.
I was scrolling through these comments as I had the very same thought about the switches legality due to its accessibility and you have answered it perfectly, thank you sir!
Thanks for the idea, and the video! Clean job on the switch. Two thumbs up!!
Nice video. You should do a garage video and introduce us to your setup. I like your workbench but I really would like to know more about the cool tool rack you have hanging on your wall next to the surron.
Thanks man ! You can get it on Amazon, it's called "Wall control metal pegboard"
Wire cut is 47mph in sport mode with torque
Wire not cut is 32mph without torque
Correct me if i am wrong
Love it! I was thinking of doing this "hack" & also a switch to turn the light off so I can use all the battery juice for the motor & not the light, only turning that on when I need it. Cheers & good riding!
will do that for sure! thank you man, clear short video with great execution, and good hardware fox also, nice job!
Dude this is genius I’m definitely going to do this getting my bank within the next two weeks going to pick it up locally thanks for the idea
Sorry to be off topic but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost the login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me
@Avi Langston Instablaster ;)
@Marco Kashton I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Marco Kashton It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my account !
@Avi Langston no problem xD
Hi with the turbo button off whats the difference in sport and ep speed
Thank youuuu so much for that idea
That’s freaking genius. I think I will do that if I need more range , easy flip of the switch. Never seen anyone do it . Well I’m going to . I wish they had a switch like that for the regen.
amazing video thank i need this
Thanks bro , you saved me...
could you do a tutorial on how you did it
Why not toggle between eco\sport switch
You can still do that, except when the high power mode is on Sport mode is more powerful and Eco mode is still eco mode. This is just to make Sport mode more powerful with a top speed of 45mph+ vs 32mph
Or you could just not turn the throttle as much.
yeah i was wondering if that really makes a difference or if this is basically training wheels for beginners
Right
But my Surron is on high power, how can I make it slowly 25km/h.?, street legal speed.
Sorry i don't have a sur ron but from all the vid's i have seen that's exactly what sport/eco mode button is for.
If for some reason you want to fool the cops that even in sport mode it goes only up to 30 just connect the green wire again
with plug in wire connectors it's cheaper and invisible ...
If it was just like the sport and eco button I wouldn't have installed the button myself. You should buy one and see for yourself. It's for two different purposes trust me.
dont the eco and sport switch on left side do the same
Dude what extra wire did you use from the switch to green wire? “Red and Black”?
Pretty smart 👌
Does it work on the Talaria Sting as well, I would like to know because its strict rules here in Sweden?
Brilliant!
Great hack👍🏾! Does it matter which green wire end goes to the switch? Positive:red , ground: black? Thanks!
Update
So I followed your tip & it works!👍🏾 however I didn’t drill a hole, I opted for an adhesive on/off switch. Thanks again !
which was it? did it matter?
@@heptagons3030 no it doesn’t really matter which wire goes where, just make sure you have a good connection when connecting the wires👍🏾
I must have missed something.. but thats what eco is for.. it tops at "28" (street/trail legal)..i use it as my "turbo" button..
Right
Now he can fool the cops thats the whole idea
@@donsurron76 doesn't matter now.. we're all getting ticketed regardless of ANYTHING. They are calling them motorcycles. EVEN AFTER LIMITING POWER and putting FUNCTIONAL PEDALS ON. ACTUALLY making it into class 2 by all definitions and standards.😡
wow I want to do this too was it really hard? to install
Don’t do if if you have to ask if it’s hard . It’s a switch. 1 wire in & 1 wire out . Basic electric & mechanics isn’t for everyone.
tysm
Your bike already had that the hand switch
Yes this makes the buttons even more powerful depending on where the switch is set.
So if you look at it, you have 4 modes. 2 in low power and 2 in high power, am I right? ...I installed the switch and it doesn't work for me for some reason. I have new surron and wire was pre-cut when it came, so I just connected it to the switch but nothing, guess my extending wire that I used is not good.
Lol Why not just ride at slower speeds when necessary? Why a button? Even if the wire is cut Wouldn't riding at slower speeds save you battery?
There's a big difference in the amount of power that it outputs when using the high power mode too. More low end torque .. and higher top speed when you need it. But can switch it off when you don't need it.
This is a bad idea. I tried it, but the performance characteristics, the throttle smoothness and predictability is so much better with that wire cut and "turbo mode" just left on permanently, that not always running in turbo mode is a horrible idea. I know from experience. If your range sucks, just go light on the throttle. Problem solved, and you'll have a better, and safer ride.
You dont get it
@@donsurron76 Oh, I "get it." I had mine setup that way, but the ECON performance is feels lousy, and using it as a Turbo button is dumb because the motor suddenly gets lots of power. No nice smooth turbo power, but electric instant-on power and it doesn't serve any purpose other than to stretch out chain from the sudden jerk of power and you run the risk of stripping your primary belt. It's a dumb idea. Don't bother. I have mine with the Econ button option, but I don't use it as "Turbo" because Econ is so lame I rarely use it, and when I do I ease into it.
This is exactly just stock eco vs sport mode lol it seems pretty pointless to me
Brother. When you clip the wire the button for sport and EP does what you made? You basically have two buttons that do the same thing now. LOL I love it non the less.
You dont get it , this one is street legaal so the sport mode is illegal
@@donsurron76 I do get it, I own one. My bike only went 32 in both modes with sport only having more torque. When I clipped the wire the bike now goes 32mph in ep/ and in sport it now goes 50mph. Much love!
Lol the guy just wants to look cool with his useless button lol
@@JoeNoBuddy but you dont have te choice to go 32 in sport mode 😅
Thats why he got that
Late comeback😜🤣
Dont know where you from but here in Amsterdam we got rules that the bike doesnt go faster dan 32mph
And if they find out you got a button that make you go faster than you in alot of ****
@@donsurron76 No you keep it in ep to go 32mph, and sport 52mph but yes it then has less torque in ep. And I live in the states with no issues I understand. So I think I understand now, he wants both options for sport and sport only, thank you for the clarification
BASICALLY GETS RID OF THE SELLLING POINT ON THE SEGWAY VERSION, DOPE AS FUCK LOL
the wire is not "high power mode" it has nothing to do with power at all. It removes the govenor for your top speed. It comes with a toggle switch Sport/EP
Incorrect. It adds a ton more torque down low, it increases the amount of power the inverter will output.
@@xkpgx1687 maybe on 2019 models. That's not the case today. It's simply a govenor. I just cut mine its the exact same minus the top speed is now 79km.
@@JayOh I can confirm this as my 2021 surron x does this same thing when switching between eco and sport mode. You can flip switch on fly and yes it will pick up more speed has more torque, with no external switch needed. All that was needed was to clip the green wire and that’s it.
Wrong. Torque is the exact same
@@JayOh not wrong, I can feel it from a complete stop. Eco is slow and progressive, sport is aggressive with exact same throttle input. Is yours a 2021? Because mine is.
Do you connect the green and black wire you cut to the switch?
What Model is that?
Does it still work if the switch is not waterproof?
Just curious as to why not just ride in eco mode if your looking for range and then toggle into sport mode when you need that extra boost in power? What’s the point of cutting power in sport mode?
@UCNdNe3wzivfCx52fqe-Dwvg yeah I know 🙄 But the amount of regen on surrons is only going to help if your riding down hill…. Limiting power output and not having regen on is more efficient hence why eco gives you more range. Regen doesn’t generate enough power to make up for range and in sport mode as it causes more drag on the motor slowing you down.
How mutch range do you get while riding in "turbo" mode?
Thx!
25 miles. If you have it cranked fully open on a 35 mph street 15 miles. Full charge.
was that 31 mph or 31 kmph on low
mph. 50km/h / 31mph is top speed with the limiter
How do you know which wire to connect or does it matter as long as there’s that relay between them
It’s a switch it doesn’t matter
What bars / grips are you running on this?
Those are Protaper MTB 3" rise handlebars using the stock grips
56mph with you on it is lame for a 4000 dollar bike in my opinion
I thought the same but I’ve owned this bike for 3 months. I’m telling this bike is built for one purpose which is fun. Im doing stuff on this bike I wouldn’t dare doing on my Ducati. If you’re looking for speed & better range just buy gas bike. For my purposes it’s an excellent commuter as well 👍🏾
This is useless, the "Sport / EP" switch on the handlebar is made for this !
You clearly have zero idea what you're talking about lol. You don't understand it
@@meatpunch9144 I have one bro, and I'm an electric engineer so yes I do know
@@fanthomas_ then learn what the wire cut mod does to the thing and read other comments and see why they find it useful.
@@meatpunch9144 Cutting the wire is to remove the electrical flange made by Surron for legal purpose. They've made the "EP / Sport" switch on the handlebar on purpose for those who wants to remove that flange and get the full power mode (you can get a piece of it even with the wire not cut). All of this if findable on Surron documentations, I've made my research before doing it and not on RUclips :)
@@fanthomas_ incorrect. Both positions on the switch do not allow full power / torque or the same top speed as when the wire is cut. You need to really do more research before posting dumb crap on the internet
Pointless
Actually, it's a turbo button, unless you want to be very slow, this will make you go faster. Just a heads up.
@@RavenAder1 no it isn't
Yup
