I’m on my second RT the first being 2017 which I picked up used that served me faultlessly for a number of years. When I traded it the mileage was 44k and it still ran and looked like new. So I traded it for another 1200 RT slightly newer with tiny mileage offered with a 2 year warranty etc from my local BMW dealer, I guess I’m hooked on this model. Overall I can’t fault this machine, an easy 60mpg (uk gallon) comfortable, handles, stops way better than it should do. Perhaps I’ll look at a used 1250 in another year or two, test ride one but be careful you might be tempted. I live in the UK and have ridden for around forty years, owned more than 20 different bikes and the RT is the only one I have bought more than once……Thank you for your review it’s great to hear from owners with years of ownership much appreciated 👍
Nice review, Mark. I have the same RT - same year, same color. Bought it new in January 2018. 46,000 miles and going strong. My only complaint is that it goes through batteries every few of years, currently on my third battery. Otherwise it’s been a fantastic bike. Tim
Thanks for watching and appreciate your comment on the main battery longevity. Sorry to hear that. Maybe I lucked out with the first one. If I get 5 yrs from the second one, I'll be quite happy. Great job logging 46K!
The BMW RT is a proverbial Rolex watch. There are many modern watches out there today but not with this sought after classic character. An absolute beauty. I wish the switches were back-lit though. Never understood about BMW. Nothing is backlit except their automobiles. I have always loved the charm of this motorcycle. Police Dept rodeo competitions nationwide ride these bikes like surgeons wielding a scalpel. A tarmac slaying apex predator. Well done.
Hi Roadglide-Thanks for tuning in and watching. Much appreciated. You are so spot on and descriptive of this BMW model. All the best to you and the rest of the gang down in Texas. Cheers!
Wow. Thank you for the great long-term review. 1200 vs early 1250RT is the exact decision I'm considering if my 2008 Victory Vision ever bites the dust.
Great review! I recently sold my ‘07 Road King and picked up a ‘19 R1250RT Option 719. I love this bike! Sadly, the weather here in NC has not been cooperative lately, but looking forward to when I can get out there and put some miles on the bike.
I had a 2014 and really enjoyed it overall. Unfortunately it suffered from an annoying ticking sound in the valve train that many have reported on in the 2014-2018 model years.
Mine had 30k on it when I bought it. I sold it at 33k out of concern for the engine based upon what I was hearing with my own ears as well as what others were saying on the web. I think some were able to find resolution through BMW and others not so much or didn’t try. If you look you’ll find a good bit of commentary about this topic on the web.
I have a 2009 RT. 36k, will never get rid of it. I’ve rented 2021 RTs in Spain and Italy for touring. I prefer the oiler engine over water cooled. The oiler bikes seem much lighter although less powerful.
Thanks for your thoughts on the engine difference. Had not heard that before but can understand how that might be the case. That would be a dream trip for this kid...riding in Italy! Cheers!
Excellent review. I liked my 2020 RT better than my current 2023 RT (Both purchased from Iron Horse BMW). The new one with all the technology, doesn't work as great as advertised, unfortunately, also the stand alone gauges are missed. Steve
There is lot of ice and snow on the ground here in the NE, so seeing someone in a sunny and warm climate with the RT made me smile. My 22 RT is my 7th BMW bike and I absolutely love it. Like you mentioned, it is trouble free with very few maintenance requirements. I did not get a chance ride my bike have since the end of Dec due to the extreme cold, snow and ice, but I was in the garage playing with it this afternoon :) ruclips.net/user/shortsuNo2nbSBZ9U
Thanks for watching and check out a link in the description for a nice used one at Southeast Sales in Milwaukee. I know they will ship it to you! Cheers!
Long-term reviews great perspective. tx
My battery on my R1200RT maneged to last unbeliveble 10 years..from 2014 till 2024 😉🤩
That is unbelievable! Good for you.

Nice review! I have 120.000 miles on my -17 RT. No major problems so far. I do all my own service. Still going strong! :)
That is fantastic and a great endorsement of the long-term reliability of this machine. Thanks for watching and for adding to the conversation!

You got it Mark. Consider it done!
The lines on that bike are timeless. They are such nice machines!
Thanks, LTF. I'm reminded how good this machine is.... every time I ride it!
It's a good-looking machine with an exemplary history. Great review, Mark, thanks!
Thanks for watching! Always appreciate your comments.

Enjoy your current ride and always look forward to the possibility of what is next! Cheers!
Another great review, Mark. Nice weather in Arizona.
Good morning from Tucson. Hope all is well, Mac. One more ride for this kid on Tuesday and then back to the cold country on Wednesday.
I have the same year and color. The bike is fantastic.
That is fantastic! The white color with black and grey trim works well to make some folks think you are the police!

That is awesome. Congratulations on your 1250RT. Love the Option 719 detailing. Thanks for watching!

Were you able to find out what the root cause was? How did BMW handle that for you? Thanks for commenting and watching!

Thanks for adding a nice perspective. Right on with the stand-alone analog gauges!
@@MarksGarage17 They need to steal the set-up from the Gold Wing.

Thanks for watching and glad to meet another RT owner!. Appreciated your "short" at the end too!
Sold!! Can you ship it to NC for me? 😁

Great review, but you haven't put many miles on it over the course of 7 years , also did you baby it, or did you ride it like you stole it?!?
