Old guy in Texas here and recent convert to an '18 RT. Been riding GS and GSA models for some years and came to realize that the riding my wife and I do suits an RT better in terms of the added wind protection and overall comfort. Too old and just not inclined for any off road riding and the closest we might get is some poorly paved Ranch Roads with steel cattle guards. Not that the GS and GSA models I've owned weren't great in their own right but for me and the riding I do the RT wins out. And all of this being very subjective of course, I prefer the more refined looks of the RT. The radio seems a bit silly but who knows I may come to use it for short trips and slower speeds. So far, honeymoon bliss with my RT and very glad I made the switch. Thanks for enlightening me on the virtues of the touring class.
Glad you enjoyed the video and it helped you out. A good choice indeed. Ride safe buddy :)
Amazingly detailed review. Of course, by now, you know the front suspension of the Gs is the same as the Rt . Apart from that understandable lapse all is immensely compensated by the way you explained everything in a passionate and involving way. It's clear you have feeling for this bike and it's amazingly clear why. I too made the choice to go for the RT instead of the GSA, choosing to ignore the hype. I never ever took my SupetTenere off road, they're just to heavy and uncomfortable to deal with. So I thought, putting a little rationality in a bucket load of passion, to go for the tourer and quit all the "one day will go to Mongolia" kind of thinking. Best choice ever! I had just finished a week trip with my wife and some friends (almost all in GSA s),suffering in every stop not to fall over to the side, because of the conjunction of being 1.65m, the almost 500kgs of the loaded supertenere with me, my wife and luggage, and my 51 yo, and did one of the best choices of my life motorcycle wise. I perfectly understand your passion. No more road bikes on stilts!
After 32 years I came back into biking with the lovely Royal Enfield 650 Interceptor - so much like my bikes of the 70's. It does everything so easily - a pleasure to ride but wthout the leaky engines and nice rumble exhaust. Wife said she would not fit on there, nothing to grab a hold of. Saw an R1200RT for sale, excellent condition - 2005 and 40,000mls and only 3,000BPd equivalent. Bought that as well and loving it!! Thanks for the vid, shows me all the little nice features I am missing lol!!
What a BRILLIANT review, your the first person to actually show in detail the full workings of the dash board it is this video that had helped me buy RT instead of the GS . Many thanks for a GREAT VIDEO . HAPPY BIKING for the future!
Best BMW RT video ever produced and I’ve watched dozens! Well done. Riding and enjoying an Africa Twin right now, but will be renting an RT soon. Cheers from California.
I really enjoyed your review of this fine Bike! BMW knows how to refine and build a pleasurable riding machine! Also, it sure beats the $1100.00 USD. Maintenance required for the K1600 every 18,000 miles.just to readjust the 24 valves it brags about having. For someone that really gets his use from riding that sort of bill to look forward to takes all the fun out of purchasing one. The R/1200/RT doesn't have that problem at all. A valve adjustment is for two cylinders only and not near that price. I would purchase one just from watching your review. Your review is that good. Thank You for taking the time for doing this. You have a new friend in the USA that lives in the great State of Arizona.
+David Greve hey mate. Agree with all you said and thank you so much for the kind words about our review. We love making videos and connecting with people all around the world. Welcome to the channel matey.
Ride safe :)
This is the best video on the BMW 1200 that i have seen , thank you .
Hey mate. Thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it. Ride safe :)
@@RiderCamTV thanks for going through the luggage and menus I just bought one of these and have no idea how to use it.
I just purchased a used 2018 with trunk and bells/whistles. Amazing bike. Getting used to it. Appreciate the video.
I agree with you about the "paddles" for turn signals. They are so easy to access and use compared to the latest turn signal switch, especially for those of us who have shorter thumbs. I have been riding RT's for more than 20 years and really like your review of the 2018 model.
Great comments and glad you liked the video review :)
Craig Griffiths you said you’ve been riding Ty’s for 20 years so I assume you have a great knowledge about them. I’m a Harley guy who has been looking at getting something different. The rt
And the 1600 gtl have caught my eye. But the closest dealership isn’t very close to me. So before I go look could you tell me if the 1200 rt would be a good fit for me at all. By size I mean. I’m 6’3 270 lbs. also any tother things pros or cons you might mention would be greatly appreciated. Same for the gtl if your familiar with them
Hi mate. Thanks for the question. I think the 1600 would give you more leg room but either would suit I think. You can get foot peg addons that enable you to lowers or move them slightly which might help. They are both capable bikes and would suit I’m sure but without trying them out in person it’s really hard to say for definite which one you would like best.
Hope that helps :)
RiderCamTV it does help thank you. It at least made the decision for me to go to the dealership and check them out. If I like Harley just lost a customer. And thanks for the quick response
No probs mate. Good luck with your choice :)
I've just taken ownership of a 2017 RT and it is AMAZING. I'm selling an Electra Glide and a GL1800 to help replenish the account! All of these machines have their upsides and downsides. So far, with so limited time on the RT, I am finding it nimble, powerful and comfortable. It took me a while to sort out the controls and buttons, but that will fall into line soon enough. Wind protection is FAR better on the RT. Clearly BMW put these into a wind tunnel or simulation software to shape it for best possible contours. The significantly lower weight is exactly what I need now in my late 50's. The Goldwing, once it starts going over, you're in trouble. The Electra Glide, is not as top heavy but it is woefully sllloooowwwww. Just a total sloth...all that displacement and noise but NO power. It took me a while to get here but with reviews like yours, I feel I made a great choice in choosing the RT. I rode a '14 GSA and frankly, it just felt like a huge dirt bike. Not something I need for work commuting and some local trips with my lady. Cheers from across the pond in SW USA!
Great review. Thanks. Just one point... the RT has exactly the same front suspension set-up as your GS... both have Telelever. The difference might be in the width of the handlebars... the wider GS 'bars give you much more leverage which makes it less effort to turn and feel lighter than the RT.
the GS has a 19inch front wheel, the outer tubes that hold the wheel might be different.
RT has 17 aluminum wheels and steering damper. Not sure if GS/GSA has steering damper
The left and right indicators were really hard for me to get used to, it''s something you need to learn to like. :) Thanks for the video.
Overall comfort and ride wins for me every time with the RT as a 59 yo. Just enjoyable to ride, and when you want t to go fast you can. Just remove the bags and enjoy the bare bike 👍
I love it when people talk with passion, I get the impression you have a real soft spot for this bike Toby👍🏻😉. You kept talking about the RT having a different front suspension to the GS but I thought the RT had the same paralever setup as the GS? Thanks for the video RCTV 👍🏻
+DervMan hey mate. Yeah I have a soft spot for the RT and am torn every time I ride one, but I’m sticking with my GSA for a bit. They do have the same front end but for some reason theRT seems more landed atslow speed. Thanks for the kind words matey 👌
DervMan, the suspension design is the same (Telelever in the front and Paralever in the back) - but the set up is entirely different. The GS has way more travel and a significantly larger wheelbase. The RT has 17/17 inch wheels and the GS has 19/17 inch wheels as well. This is why both bikes ride completely different, albeit having the same engine characteristics and layout. While we're at it, the telelever does one thing vs a conventional suspension: the wheelbase stays the same while braking and accelerating. With other setups the wb varies, which makes the bike handle more different in situations, depending on the bikes position and lean.
100 percent in agreement with you regarding your appreciation of the separate right and left indicator switches . Motorcycle journalists from every magazine Ive ever read whinges about them , why ? Probably because theyre not regular BMW riders .
Steve Smith Harley Davidson has the left and right switches also. It only takes a day or two to get used to it
BEST review of a bike BAR NONE! , thanks so much you have just made my mind up for me it's a RT for me (keep up the good work)
Thanks for making this video. Really excellent. Detailed and clear. Very thorough and ….. entertaining to view. Thanks from Bruce on the West Coast; in Oregon, USA.
Good information rich review, thanks. I'm coming back to biking after 37 yrs, and had a busy week last week riding the RT, GS, and both Vstroms looking for a potential steed. Bearing in mind I'd only done a one day back to biking course I was amazed the RT was so simple to ride, almost on autopilot. I started a Vlog too so the reviews are up on RUclips, but not as accomplished as yours! Very much appreciate the insights, keep them coming 🏍😊
+Back2TheBike thanks for the kind words mate. It is a great bike. Ride safe
Well, I've gone and done it Toby. 16 plate SE with lots of toys on it, got an amazing deal too. Re-watched your video for a masterclass on its features. I've watched just about every video on the RT, and yours is the most comprehensive. As a returning newbie back to biker, it would be really interesting if you were to do a video on your weekly maintenance routine as I've no idea now. Also, your pre-ride checks, good habits etc. Please !
+Back2TheBike that's amazing mate. Great stuff! Thanks for the kind words too as it really means a lot. Funny you should ask as Mark and I have talked about doing a weekly check type video. Will definitely do that now:)
Brill, I'll lokk forward to that. Imagine it's blowing a bit down in Cornwall today ...
+Back2TheBike certainly is. No riding today :(
Just more editing :)
Ride safe on that beauty mate
Outstanding detailed review of all the features on the RT. Enjoyed it. Now I want one even more. My local dealer has offered a test rides, but I've always declined because I know what would happen!
Hey matey, thanks for the very kind words, it means a lot to us both as we love making the vids.
It’s an awesome bike and you’ll love it :)
Ride safe
A good detailed review mate. I have a 2017 RT and absolutely love it.
Hey mate thanks for the kind words. Awesome bike too. Enjoy :)
Excellent review, the force is strong with this one got a funny feeling I’m it’s my next bike just love them.really enjoyed the video thanks .
Hey matey, thanks for the kind words. It’s an awesome machine indeed. Ride safe
So, just changed my 2015 GSA for one of these and having very, very slight second thoughts, although I can’t find a fault with it to be honest. If only we could have one of each! Main reason I changed was I was sick of going back for warranty work on the GSA, I hope this is better. Love the vid as always, thanks for sharing.
+Mick Smith thanks for the kind words matey. Enjoy your RT. It is an awesome machine :)
Best review yet on RT,
Great review on the 2018 RT...Thank you!
Thanks hated every minute of the video ! Only because I know I cannot afford to buy one and as you've very well illustrated a great bike. Some years ago now I test rode an RT & a GS and hated them. Then having owned a few more bikes unbelievably I saw a second GS for sale in a dealer show room and decided to buy it as it was at the right price. As I rode it away I was thinking what have I done but thankfully within 5 miles I was loving it. Owned it now 5 years and would only trade it in for either an RT or GS. Its the Boxer engine for me every time now.
Thanks for the video, a great review - just brought an 18 plate
Great as always. Yet to disappoint.
You guys should review the Goldwing for a laugh.
I'm with you on the indicator paddles sir. Still love the bike though! It is an exceptional ride for sure!
Gotta love the paddles. They were so much better than the normal indicator buttons. ;)
Really helpful review, including aspects that often get missed on other reviews (ie Satnav compatibility). Funnily enough, have seen a nice looking secondhand RT from that exact same dealer.
I really appreciate you covering the differences between this bike and the GS, it helps those of us who are considering both. The front end being more planted and stable specially at lower speeds was a great distinction you pointed out specially because of the off road influence on the front GS wheel. Frankly if the RT looked sharper like the GS and not as Bulbous as it does, legions of people would buy them more. Because man of us will never go off road, but the look of this big bubble just spells 'old man', or Gold Wing old timer, its just a huge turn off. Hopefully BMW will some day address this void in the market place.
Thanks for such a clear comprehensive video. I have a yr 2000 RT and absolutely love riding it but will be looking to get a newer model soon. Do love the paddles though, so easy to use and logical, will start a petition to bring them back ;) Cheers
+Martin Mills thanks for the kind words matey. I'll sign it ;)
Great video review. I'm getting ready to pick up a 2014 RT. Thanks for explaining the menus and features. I already downloaded the owner manual for the bike and it has a lot of information in it, but it is not very clearly written. It's much easier to learn the menus by watching than by reading. I don't know why BMW calls every switch or button switch 1 or button one. Why not call each button what it is, such as Menu button? Nice overview, and now I'm really pumped. It's definitely dangerous to test ride one of these!
thanks for the kind words Doug, a turly great machine and like you say dangerous to test ride one... eek! I'm with you on the labelling of the controls, why make it hard to understand when it could be so much easier! Ride safe and enjoy the new machine :)
I thought your review was great; it’s one of the most watchable and doesn’t seem like 30 mins had passed.
+Surdan Whatley thanks for your kind words matey, means a lot :)
Incredibly thorough and thoughtful review. I learned a few things about it that I never knew before. I've ridden one of these only once, but it was for a full day, and I couldn't agree more with all of your assessments, including the right/left turn indicators on the previous generations. IMHO, the RT is the most desirable, most thoroughly conceived sports touring motorcycle ever made. Unfortunately, I have no idea how I will ever be able to afford one. Thanks so much for the review.
+Dean Love thanks so much for kind words, they mean a lot. Glad you enjoyed the review and someone else that liked the old style indicators :)
Ride safe mate
I would agree re it being the most desirable, most thoroughly conceived sports touring motorcycle ever made. If one only ever wanted to do road work, I think I'd prefer it to a GS/GSA. However, if one wants to say do some camping, or have to traverse a dirt or gravel road to a campsite, the GS/GSA starts to come into it's own with it's offload abilities, less likelihood of expensive repairs in an inadvertent drop in those conditions, and the GS/GSA panniers are better suited for camping/touring rather than staying in a hotel overnight. And whilst I love the fairing, in hot climates, (35 - 40ºC +) it's probably a demerit, with the GS/GSA providing better summer riding ventilation, albeit less weather protection in winter.
No argument from me. Those are the exact reasons to choose a GS/GSA in lieu of an RT.
Here in Australia the police use the RT, but they are a relatively rare sight on the roads in private ownership - most seem to go for either the GS or the GSA. In part I think that has a lot to do with our less than stellar roads once you get off the main highways, our often vast distances, and extreme heat in summer. As such, for serious long distance touring, the GSA has the edge over the standard GS with the extra tank range, the slightly better wind protection with the fractionally bigger screen and the side 'winglets', along with even more ability should you choose to go off road. However it is surprising the number of GS owners I've met who actually prefer not to take them off road - weight, expensive in an inadvertent drop etc - but relish the comfort, tank range, good summer weather protection/ventilation, and if needed to go down a beaten track, the ability to literally do it all. Whichever one were to choose, RT, GS or GSA they're all fantastic bikes IMHO. PS: A shoutout to RiderCamTV for one of the very best reviews I've either seen or read on the RT. Congratulations for a superb review, and thank you! :-)
+John McLeod hey matey, thanks you so much for the kind words it really does mean a lot. I agree with what you said about the gs gsa and rt all being great bikes and very interesting to hear about riding in Australia. I love my gsa and although I’d have an rt in a flash, realistically the gsa suits me better all round :)
Ride safe matey :)
Lordy,lordy-sweet ride.I like the sound.I like the look.Texas would get considerably smaller on "der
machine".
It would make short work of long distances that’s for sure. Ride safe :)
Best RT review I've seen and better than the print ones. And first time that owning an RT's actually crossed my mind - and that it's not just the fading sibling to the GS.
Sounds like you'd be better off with a new RT as well.
Also sounds like
+Gary Walker thanks for the kind words matey. It's an awesome bike and every time I get on one I want one, bank balance won't allow for a while though
@@RiderCamTV Hi RiderCam, curious if you acquired an RT since your video and reply of 4 years ago? Great video, thanks again.
Yes i was a fan of the paddles as well, a lot easier to use.. and we need a 3 year warrenty on BMWs..
+TheFozzy222 100% agree :)
Nice video, I'm 100% confident that, at 11:07, ( with the exception of trail angles, spring/damper rates and wheelbase dimensions) the RT and GS suspension are pretty much identical.
+Max Flight you could be right :)
Very nice review.
I moved to the 2016 RT from the 2014 ADV & by doing so missed: A. the beautiful LED head lights. B. I had the low seat on both & the RT managed to break in my butt instead of me it, way too firm. C. I once ended up in a cut off area & was very nervously watching the fuel level & sooo missed the ADV's range.
While the RT displays everything, you can only see a data at a time but was nice to have all displayed on the NAV simultaneously on the ADV. Conclusion: Back to ADV for 2018.
+Muhammad Ali totally agree mate. I loved my RT but I also found the seat very firm and it is nice to have all the info available on the GSA. I got great mileage from the RT as I do from the GSA but the panniers were the killer for me. The GSA is so much more conducive for packing. Ride safe matey
The headlights are regular halogen H7 bulbs, just the rings are LED.
Great video - detailed and very enjoyable - thanks
No probs matey. Glad you enjoyed it :)
I liked the old paddles too, far easier to use IMO...but I'm NOT going to test ride the RT LOL
Hey Toby . Seen this a few times . Some people don’t like to look through clear wind screens when riding which I find strange . I wonder if they r the same people I c at the grocer with the clear cooler door wide open looking for the frozen food they want to buy ????
hahahaha, love it!
Nice review as ive just bought the 2014 RT after my 1200RS was stolen..Lots of things to play with when i pick it up.
+Michael Dignum excellent stuff matey, you will love it :)
Update - Never try a change the low beam bulb when it goes, its a pain. I broke off the retaining clip and Cannons Braintree had to take off the whole front to get at it and "fix" the problem. Why make it so hard to change a bulb BMW?
Blimey! I’m with you. Why do they make it so hard!
Thank you, Toby. Great vlog. Really enjoyed
+Frank Malone they mate, thanks so much for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it :)
Nice review. Really enjoyed it ... will get mine in March. !!!
+Tienie Fraser cool, thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it. Have fun on your new ride :)
Great review and a wonderful bike .One comment: I noticed that when I load my RT up with bags and camping gear it helps to have extra mirrors on the handlebars to get a wider view of things. Thanks for sharing !!
thats very true John.. always good to have the full view!
Hope this will be my first bike. Thank You for a great review.
You won’t go far wrong with this one matey :)
Loved the paddles on older bikes for the reasons mentioned but it is a Marmite issue. No keyless start though? Lovely bikes but when I get off and walk away I don't look back in admiration but my GSA always gets a backward glance.... Just saying.
+Mark Holroyd I get you mr mark :)
Apples and oranges mate. RT is far more superior than a GSA for what it's meant for, which is touring. As for appearance, it's like comparing a tractor (GSA) to a Porsche (RT).
Good review, this bike is on my radar to replace my GSA ( when the time comes). I am with you on the indicator paddles. Would you ever be tempted back to owning one?
+Peter Lewis great choice matey. Yep I could be tempted back to owning one as they are immense bikes, although the luggage is a bit of an issue for me as the shape is not the best for my needs
Yes, I agree with you on the luggage, you can't beat a top opening aluminium square box!! I love the GSA it's the third one I have owned, but the idea of added weather protection as I get older is very appealing.
+Peter Lewis I agree with you there but there is something appealing about the RT
Love you guys genuine.
I have the Rallye which is my 1st MBW and a great bike but there is something about the fairing on the RT that puts me off but I'm sure its a great bike to ride
+kevin robb I know what you mean, although the RT fairing is awesome in the wet and great at wind deflection:)
I have just watched your RT review for the third time, an excellent review. I am curious as to why you chose the GSA over the RT especially in your line of work ( touring). Do you think real tourers like the RT are on the way out. Adventure bikes now seem to be the alternative touring bikes these days?
Love the video! I am considering this bike but since the weather is terrible here I am not going to test drive yet. Can you tell me how the low speed/city maneuverability is? Is it easy to navigate parking lots and do U turns? Thanks!
Hey mate, thanks for the kind words. An epic bike indeed! The slow speed manoeuvring is great. It really doesn’t feel like a massive bike when riding at all. Very flickable :)
So nice, I’d love to get a 2018 or so... but I can’t really afford one; maybe a 2011 with finance. Can I ask, how do you afford this and other bikes? What do you do? Always worth looking into viable career paths lol
hey buddy, thanks for th comments and question. As we have been biking for quite a while and started the youtube channel we have been fortunate to have friends at showrooms and also by going into ask if we can work with them and review their bikes. we have our BMW 1200 GSA's that we ride.
Good review of a really nice bike. Thinking of trading in my GS for one of these.
It’s an awesome machine indeed. Ride one and I’m sure you’ll love it.

Hello RiderCamTV, I have booked a test ride on the 2018 RT through Pidcocks BMW based at Long Eaton, Nottingham. Hope it rides as good as it looks. My PCP deal on the GS ends in a few weeks time and to my mind the RT looks to be the obvious replacement. Do you get any tyre noise from the front of the bike? My GS seems to suffer from this trait, with a very intrusive noise being generated when the road speed exceeds 30 MPH. If you ride on perfectly smooth tarmac the noise almost disappears.
Good choice of bikes, both the Gs and the rt are fab! The road noise was probably the tyres. We found the stock anakee 3’s were noisy and now we are on metzeler tourance and roadtecs the noise has gone :)
You'll get told off Toby for calling it Counter steering by the IAM, Positive steering now :-)
+Liam Hoad lol :)
thank you so much! A very informative video!
Hey mate, thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed it... Ride Safe
Have to qualify my earlier comments! I have just re-watched your video! ... It's awesome. In 36 years of riding bikes, I have to say my favourite is the RT. I bought a new 2006 RT, and enjoyed it for three years. I did think it was somewhat under-powered though. It also had the servo brakes, and had a party piece, that whe hot, (after a motorway run say), it would cut out when you backed off the throttle, .... Eh on one of those, no engine meant no brakes! ... Led to the odd "exciting moment"!!! :)
I started in the early 80s on, of all things a Honda express deluxe moped! (coolest thing ever when you are 16)... IT was a two speed automatic, stopped and not moving!!! :)
I bought the RT in 2006, in the hope that after years of sportsbikes, the "pipe and slippers brigade might take effect" .... LOL! ... how wrong was my perception .... and how good is the RT???? At this stage the RT was just run in. I was commuting into Dublin through the traffic, and was kinda "playing" with a guy on a VFR. The lights went green, he gave it the berries - I did too! Little did I expect that the RT would launch, and save the front tyre rubber! ... It must have been a mile before I overcame my shock, and thought that my non pipe-smoking would be a good thing! .... I might have lost tobacco!! Biggest Wheelie I've done in years, with the radio on, and the boxes full of my weekend packing!
You mentioned the tipping in of the RT, in my experience this is very tyre dependent! .... On the 2005 model, I found the Dunlop tyres were really stable, and trustworthy - afterwards I tried pirielli diablos - didn't like those so much - they wanted to REALLY tip into corners! ... went back to dunlops after!
I also found that an RT with a Top box is WAY more comfy than without! I found that without the topbox, there was pressure on the small of your back, not a big deal on a short run ... bug a major deal on big touring runs!
For me the biggest similarities between the GS and the RT is that you effectively ride both standing up! ... It's the comfiest position ever! (Sports bike riders take note ... your elbow does not always need to touch your knee). The advantage of the RT is that because of it's amazing faring, you are not out in the weather. ..... as in, at little more than 20mph ... you will not get wet in a monsoon! (Not scientifically tested) ... but a fun fact to throw about!
Since my RT, I have owned; Blade RRW, Blade 929, VSTrom 1000, Varadero 1000, ZZR 1200, 954 Blade, and now I have a winter hack 2000 Fazer 600. I look forward to my next RT! ... hopefully one of the 125bhp models! :)
I alw
Love the review. Might be my next bike. If I could just figure our how to get my hands on one for s review. Liked and subbed
+123JumpingJacks hey mate, welcome to the channel and thanks for the kind words. Got my fingers crossed that you find one. Awesome machine :)
Ride safe
Toby, you are the Alan Titchmarch of motorcycling.😉
+Nimrod eek! Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Hahha
Ha ha, depends on who you ask I guess
But it was meant as a massive compliment!!
Your reviews are just great and your such a nice guy to listen to.
A very friendly voice is what I meant😉👍🏻
+Nimrod Hahahha. I took it as a compliment matey, thank you so much for those kind words. It really does mean a lot 👍
Do you think the 1510 mm vs 1485 mm wheelbase and the 19 vs 17 inch wheels and different rubber explains the different handling more than the telelever front setup? I know I do . . .
+Walter Wilkins that's true it could do matey :)
Doesn't the GS have the Telelever front end as well?
+Simoncelli 58 sane I think but different rubber as it feels heavier on the RT
Good review Toby
+Lyn Smith thanks Lyn :)
you say that rt has tele lever surely the gs has tele lever as well
Very well done thank you for the video
My GS sucks for wind protection over 65mph. Is the Adventure any better? I don't have the GSA, I bought the regular GS. It does seem like that huge gas take would help block more wind, especially in the inner leg area.
We find the adventure really good for wind protection. Toby has a Wunderlich screen (aftermarket) that we reviewed and fitted some time ago and Mark uses the stock screen, both without issues. Have you tried the Wunderlich screen defeletor, as many GS owners swear by them?
Thanks! I have a really nice Givi Windshield that protects my upper body great. My problem is my inner legs, the wind constantly blows my legs out away from the gas tank area. I'm constantly holding my legs in and after 3-4 hours they become so fatiged I have to start stopping ever 45 minutes. I'm only 6' but have long legs so they pretty cramped. I also have the seat up as high as it will go. I'm actually going to test ride GSA Today.
you will love the GSA. Havent noticed any wind at all on the GSA, as the large tank it probably stops it...... :)
um...the gs has telelever also?
In my opinion the RT handles much nicer than the GS.
As to the paddles for the indicators, you need some therapy. ;-)
+Mike Breen agree on the handling. Much better at slow speed. I’m in therapy. Hahahha
Good day. How would rate this bike compared to the K1600gt. Which would you prefer and your reason please.
I also notice movement on your windscreen. Is this caused by vibration through the bike?
Is there any vibration on this bike.
My 2018 K1600GT SPORT is completely without vibration.
Hey buddy, it’s a Fab bike and just as smooth as the K1600GT as it’s basically the same bike but with a different body styling. The same bike indeed and Mark and I chatted after the review and for touring (with luggage capacity) I’d get the K1600GT but if your going for the ‘Harley type’ style the bagger is the one.
No vibrations at all as with the K1600GT although the screen on the bagger is a little small for me :)
Ride safe :)
In my opinion, RT is the best bike in this segment, I do not like it, I prefer GS, BUT, RT goes as far as GS goes with the road tires.
Cheers.
+S André very true mate, it is a fab bike, just wish the panniers were a more 'package shape
Had a GS years ago when living in Arizona. Took it on all the border roads and into the mountains. Damn thing was just too heavy when toppled over and a real pig in sand. Anyway, the RT handles just fine on dirt/gravel roads. RT 90%road/10% dirt, most people ride the GS 80%road/20% dirt.
Hi, I posted this in your reply to Gary Walker below; curious if you acquired an RT since your video and reply of 4 years ago? Great video, thanks again.
Stuck with the GSA :)
@@RiderCamTV Cool! I recently took my RT on a ride based on road maps. Found one road turned from asphalt to gravel, then back to asphalt. Would’ve felt more relaxed on a GSA!
As far as I understood it’s 2017 model motorbike in 2014 or the splif was thick ?
Thanks for the reply.. love watching the vids,, I'm on my 4th GSA now with a k1600 in the middle,, Burt yep the new GSA rally in the white and blue looks so cool,,, arrrrr get the ££££ out lol..
+TheFozzy222 no probs mate. I'm on my 4th GSA and I too love it. Agreed, the GSA rally looks awesome
Nice review. Shame you never managed to get out of third gear though.
+jim watson thanks matey, yeah I know, there was really no need as the bikes engine was working just right in that gear. Hahah
Yea and another thing,,, why don't we get a DAB radio,, so yesterday,,,,
+TheFozzy222 that's very true
Greetings, enjoyed your review. I recently saw a ad, a fellow is selling his 2018 BMW R1200RT. Fully loaded with the tour, comfort, dynamic packages. Asking $23,500.00, Canadian, your opinion, would you say this is a good deal? Cheers!
What does this bike 2018 model cost from new in uk
If i would buy a motorbike again, this type would be it
+Richard van Tricht it’s awesome
Is this a tour bike?
+Stekkerbox yep :)
No, its a tank lol
+Strider 010 hahaha but a lovely one at that :)
Both have Telelever...
Did they finally get rid of the stupid antenna on the front of the fairing? That thing bobbing around in your view was ugly and stupid.
Unfortunately not. If you have the radio with it, it’s still there :(
Good review my friend , must subscribe 🖒
+Craig Morrison get matey, thanks for the kinds words it means a lot. Glad you enjoyed the video :)
How much does it cost
+Dondon342_ over £20,000

Is the BMW Navigator still not lockable?
+Motolover unfortunately not without an added mount such as the touratch and wunderlich ones :(
GS and GSA have it, so I was expecting they would do it in a couple of years. Well, a couple of years passed and they are still asleep.
+Motolover I thought the same. One of the only things wrong with the bike :(
It is a bit too hot for the climate I live in. UK and Northern Europe is its main market. I used to have a Honda Pan European and stopped using it in summer as it was unbearable. Even my GSA is too hot.
+Motolover they are amazing at wind protection. Where do you live?
I don't want to see just the handlebar, please...!!!
+alexander canete ??
I enjoyed watching that. Filtering through traffic on a GS , possible. Filtering on an RT.... Not really ...
+Max Flight it's possible on both bikes mate
Having owned and commuted into central London both a GSA and RT, I can say that (with panniers off) they are both equally capable at filtering :)
Thanks Eugene, worth knowing!
+Eugene Reisch 100 % after
+Max Flight filtering on both is possible, as easy with one as it is the other :)
A damn shame BMW chose to appease the gizmo freaks and Ricky Racer Luddites and put innately defective telescopic forks on the R1200R. I didn't want a GS or the RT. But I would have definitely bought that new R1200R when introduced if BMW hadn't hobbled it with brake dive replete, bump-steer prone, horrifically insensitive telescopic forks.
BMW has traded their once respected legacy of innovatively engineered motorcycles for trendy digital gadgetry and electronic nannies.
Douglas Elliott interesting point, however with at least 1 state California adopting the R1200RT for the state highway patrol, it goes without saying BMW passed all of the rigorous test put to it. Many bikes failed for said contract. Kawasaki KZ900 had this contract for well over a decade. Telescopic forks with its flaws, works. Many other municipalities have adopted this bike for said purposes. IMHO if it ain't broke why fix it?
Did you ever exceed 30mph during the course of this test? You could have done this on a moped. I think you're more interested in gadgets than actually riding a motorbike.
Ur roads as well as ur brexit r backwards...
what a bizarre thing to say!
