Number one, you need to look into counteracting those cv shots. And NEVER get another one for ANYTHING! I've done tons of research, but don't take my word for anything or anyone else that COULD have a reason to lie. Anyways. You exactly correct on all you said. Those fancy dancy radio and all are outdated the day the bike was put on the showroom floor if not soon after. Bragging material is all it is. You have a great way of talking about this for that long and still keep me interested. Great job. Will be listening to much more, but I just bought a 2009 and immediately fell in love with it. I hate when a ride comes to an end. Unlike any other bike I've ridden. The seat is a little hard due to age, but still in perfect shape. Just bought a trunk as mine didn't have one. The power is MORE than I really ever need, but LOVE having it!!!!! Went through some twisties and was immediately comfortable doing so. Goes so fast that I can hardly even twist the throttle before holding the reigns back to avoid a ticket. Don't feel like I'm going that fast. WARNING! LOL I may get myself into trouble if not careful. LOL Great video bud. Keep up the great work. Hope your channel does amazing things for you. God bless you and yours. Stay safe and ride on.
@@TRCAdventures Thank you sir,, I am totally enjoying it. Got some maintenance to do. Like valve adjustments, spark plugs, final drive spline lubrication, air filter etc. You know,, make it MY bike!. LOL But hey,,, can't afford the new bike, so with a little sweat equity and a few bucks, I'll get er done! Oh yeah. Stay Blessed brother.
Nice video! I just picked up a well-used 07 R1200RT-P, the state police model, and have been working away at the issues associated with it sitting unused and perhaps a little neglected for awhile. Took one sporty test ride (the seller took my bike and led me through local twisties) and came back the next day with money and rode it home. It does need some work, but we have a nice shop here and I'm taking care of things. I like the slim police luggage. On the highway this thing is a shark. No lack of get up and go. At 60 it feels like it's sitting still, so I have to be careful not to get speeding tickets. Edit: because of the suspension, you can brake during turns. Not only that, but you can still dodge and weave obstacles during braking turns. Most bikes won't do those things so well.
Thanks for the ride, Chris! Everything you said about this bike is the way I felt about my '02 R1150 RT back in the day. It was a pure pleasure to be in the saddle. I watched your video of your new boat... I knew it was only a matter of time before you would be back on the water again. Ride on!
Hi, John!!! Yes I've been needing to get back on the water, so I'm super excited about this. Plans at this point to sail to Hawaii then Alaska then down to Mexico!!!! If I can make that happen!
I cant agree with you opinion on the Garmin Unit for GPS. BMW has integrated it very well with its controls pus it displays your phone status and can blend in traffic info from your phone. Is your phone waterproof? Not really, the Garmin is and its designed for outdoor usage, your phone is not ruggedized for the bouncing around on the bike. It also offer hands free management interface with your phone, displays contacts, messaging on newer models, traffic conditions and off road maps as well.
I agree with you on the Garmin/BMW GPS, my phone is water proof, but the integrated controls are a nice touch with the unit from BMW! I use both but rely on my phone more often. It just seems to be more up to date and shows traffic areas to avoid and alternate routing on the screen.
You are welcome! 56 and 53mpg is great, I was thinking my 09 might have gotten a bit better fuel economy than my 14 but I wasn't sure. Still fantastic MPG, and such a fantastic bike. I think I will go for a ride today!! Thanks
Great ride, enjoyed hearing your pros and cons of the RT. I had a 2016 hands down one of the best bikes I’ve e we owned. I recently test rode a 2022 1250RT, I can see one in my garage very soon ! The vineyard views look amazing! Keep up the great videos, feel better soon.
Thanks! Still trying to over the chest congestion but getting better!! Now I just need to get back into my exercise routine again! It was so good to be back out on the bike again!!
Oh brother where are thou? I feel your joy and your pain. Totally in synch with your characterization of “the rider’s ride”. Yep. RT forever. Hope this finds you well and healthy. Always like your videos. Keep it up and keep’on riding
In the thumbnail photo it looks like you have chanced the low beam to LED, is that correct? If so, which bulb did you use? Did you do highs too? Thanks for ride, I’m excited about getting one now.
I liked this video but I did have a little trouble hearing you clearly enough but I got the message. One thing I listened for was what you think of the new transmission. Does your have the slipper clutch with the quick shifter?
Sorry it was difficult to hear, yes the bike has the quick shifter, it's a fun option but a bit of a gimmick type option I don't find myself using all that much, the transmission is the best of all the RT and GS bikes I have had but not quite on par with the k1600 or some of the competition, nice but still a bit clunky if I am to be picky! It's easy to fall in love with these bikes!
The data / IPod connection in the glove box is there for connecting your MP3 or IPOD, so whats wrong with that? Why a make a fuss over it? BMW even has different adapters to give your the latest connections. Yes phone tech has made for bigger phones and your new phone may not fit in the compartment, why is that BMW’s fault?
Good point not trying to make a big fuss about it just that iPods and mp3 players are 20 to 30 year old tech, I was not aware people still have that, so I was not thinking it's super practice for a modern bike.
Your wrong again about the port shutting things down on the bike if shorted out or too much power is exceeding the port 5 amps capacity. CANBUS will shutdown the Port but not other systems or components, just the port. Wrong about the locking plug port, many accessories can use that port and there are many adapters for it as well. It is a locking port that can handle USB chargers, electric gear, GPS unit power or any other accessory. THe difference between a cigarette lighter socket and these ports is that it is locking and the accessory plug wont bounce out and go into your spokes while your riding.
Your explanation seems logical and I would have agreed, though after spending a week with a corporate tech they flew in to trouble shoot a customers new bike,it changed my mind, in the end it was found a short in the cam bus system was causing the entire system to shut down and the bike would not start, (This was on a much newer, 2021, bike and may not be the case on older bikes.)
I did take it off road a few times, a few easier jeep trails and some dirt roads to some remote lakes, also a trip to Joshua tree where I took it to the different off road areas to see the sights. They do extremely well and the skid plate from my GS fits, as your only real issue would be ground clearance otherwise it's great. I don't it much footage of the off-road areas I went on the RT, her is what I have from Joshua tree ruclips.net/video/P-2oiM3QLVc/видео.htmlsi=s1VOvIalMU54WFHf

Wow, your parking lot views are fantastic and scenic! So glad i got to see that!
You're welcome, not often I get out to the veterans hospital. I do have some views of my shops parking lot in some of the other videos, LoL!
thanks for the ride Chris. I had a 08 n got 56mpg n my 15 gets 53. yur right the RT is one fine traveler!

I think what is wrong with it is the technology was out of date when the bike was built.

"Proprietary" BMW power plug .... John Deere has the same one! At 1/4 the price!
I've started to see that same plug around more often now! Though you can still pay BMW the privilege of buying their plug for ridiculous prices!
on achète une RT parce que c'est le top et qu'elle donne la banane tellement elle est confortable, maniable et facile.
bonne observation, et je pense qu'il y a un style un peu unique et que les gens tombent amoureux après en avoir roulé un pendant un certain temps
