Full coverage of the semi-finals in the women's 100m hurdles event as Australia's Sally Pearson and the USA's Dawn Harper and Kellie Wells all advance to the final at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

I ran track for about 3 years, those moments before a race are so scary, I can't imagine this. I'm nervous for them
Can u elaborate the the "scary" moment
+violinkittie There were a couple times last season where I almost threw up while in blocks lol
I totally agree.
Omg same same same that's exactly what I think every time
I still do a lot of running I have for 6 years but omg the nerves
I think they should give them 2 tries if someone makes a false start. like sometimes they are just so in-the-zone.
That rule was changed after the men's 100 meter finial during the 96 Olympics
Willow Burger vi
Alvin Thompson yeah I agree that rule is wrong should have another chance at it if a fs happens
iya sayangku bisa saya kenal dengan kamu
Willow Burger
She did not start early,
The others started late
Cutiepie123xox456 RBLX lmao
Exactly
Yeah IKR
No. She started way early.
She left before the gun fired
" cant believe what shes done" host made it sound like she killed a baby
Scarlet Mason ikr
Stupid host
He said "she cant believe what shes done" commenting on how shes in disbelief.
Lol
Skedadlee no he said, “I can’t believe what she’s done.”
The Olympic Committee should seriously rethink pulling someone out for a false start after 4 years of training. That's a hefty chunk of one's life. They are obviously anxious and want to get it on and over with. Methinks there should be, at least, one general first warning rule.
I think they previously had a two warning rule?
I was watching some documentary on a guy who got two false starts and was disqualified on the second. He was given a warning on the first. This was in the 80s or 90s, I believe.
Ceci Davila She never got a warning at all though..
It’s just the rule it doesn’t matter if they train 10 years it’s yurt the rule dumbass
It’s not rly Olympic rules, it’s track rules. It’s just how it’s done. Depending on what type of false start it is you’ll get a warning.
@@wrinkletheduck880 rules can be stupid dumbass dur dur Dur DUR!
Bruh, they just jealous that she has very fast reflexes😂 the millisecond she heard the buzzing noice she went for it no need to cut her off like that.
Ikr they could've gave her another chance 😔
This is so correct 😂😂
Actually the buzzing noise meant there was a false start
Basically when she ran, during before and after, no gun shot was shot.
And she didnt start running because if the buzzer either
Her brain was anticipating the gunshot so much it made a fake one and she started running
Black Rose exactly
She went before the gun even fired...
I don't understand why they pull a person out that has been training for that event for 4 years...4 YEARS just because they accidentally started earlier. I mean, to me it looked like she went on the sound! When it buzzed she took off before anyone else...but it was on the sound.
These are pros, they know the rules, and there is no excuse at their level. You can ask any of those athletes and none of them will say otherwise.
+Liam Hammons So, it was clearly an accident....ever heard of those? they happen to everyone.
+The Non-Asian Asian 〈(//^o^//)〉 I know but this is world if you stuff up your out
+Liam Hammons So what there pros, pros can make mistakes too. And of course they know the rules. I still think it's stupid to take them out of the whole Olympics over one mistake they had on one race.
I always feel it for an athlete to false start and that one looks like pure nerves. Doesn't matter if you're a professional we're talking about this is Olympics - very big occasion and people lose their heads. lol
Can't a girl get a second chance? Surely it's easy to give a false start and not in purpose.
Jacob M Not necessarily. When you’re about to run it’s very nerve racking because you want a good start. Your start determines whether you win or lose
Mx1air Bolts starts aren’t too bad, and he can speed up faster and hold that speed for longer which is what gets him so far ahead.

Hi, I'm seeing a lot of comments about the false start and posted this comment of the video, but I thought I'd paste it here in case you're interested (:
To clear things up, the technology they use in these competitions can tell if the athlete starts before the gun. It's not up to debate. Unfortunately at this level of competition, it's truly a mind game as much as a physical feat. To be good in the Olympics, you can't just be super fast, etc., you also have to "play the game", or cater to the format. Same with exams, which are a good comparison. To do great on exams, you can't just be super smart, you also have to be good at the exam format (dealing with stress, time management during the test, strategy for recording answers, etc.). Athletes at this level prepare for this stuff. They know the consequences of a false start. As much as it pains me to see their anguish when this happens, I understand that it must be this way. Imagine if false starts were met with second chances. Athletes wouldn't worry as much about making the mistake and many more people would start falsely, not because they're cheaters, but simply because they're so nervous to start right at the gun, just like this athlete was. This would mean all the other athletes would also be halted. This is not fair to the other athletes because they go thorough the mental stress and physical strain of a race start only to be stopped short and made to do it again. Now imagine this happened multiple times because of multiple people. That's why there can be no second chances.
And here's a related trivia point. Each of the athletes are fed the sound of the gun through their own separate speaker behind them. This happens in all these extremely close races where every millisecond matters, like sprinting, hurdles, swimming, etc. The reason for this is that if a single speaker emits the sound, each athlete will hear it at a different time due to the time takes to reach each of them at different distances from the source. Meaning that the athlete furthest away is at a disadvantage. This used to be the case when a real gun was used, for example.
@@wonderbugone nice, I never knew that they have a speaker behind them to make sure all of them hears at the same time! that is definitely interesting thanks for sharing
when that woman got disqualified, those guys were touching her and leading her off the track. I freaking hate it when people touch me, i would've been like 'get away from me!'.
William Levy 😂😂
Ikr 😂
they didn’t even touch her but okay
That’s just because your a freak
Same here 😂
She didn't start early.. The other women stated late
everything-under-the-sun lauren these are world class women-they wouldn't start THAT late compared to the *fast* woman.
She started before the possible reflex time so she got disqualified
She started as soon as she heard that first sound. I would allow it. She just has really good reflexes.
My thoughts exactly.
Haha no. She totally started before the sound. She got to ahead of herself. Poor girl. She was a good sport about it though!

Imagane training for years then being disquallified for a flase start
poor woman!! :( God. It happens. And it was a mistake, nobody here would ever try to cheat cause it would be seen 100% by those cameras.
I used to run 600m for school atletic competitions and I was terrified moments before the start. Sometimes I froze for a moment when I heard the starting sound instead of starting to run. It's sooo nerve-racking. I think they judges or whoever should have understood that and should have given her a second chance. :/
Eva Bergant I ran track and starting was my main problem cuz I started like a second late but it made a difference bc I did almost all sprinting
well i wouldn’t say cheating, but yes many athletes do try to guess the start.
HAHAHA. “...nobody here would ever try to cheat...” do you know about 1.) the false start you saw in THIS video. And 2.) The amount of people who drug? A lot of people cheat.
@@michelleg1805 Same your nerves get to you. I always was like a second off, when the others started running everything looked like it was in slow motion.

Yes it was, it was a very obvious false start, as a track athlete, that was pretty scary how early she left the blocks.
They Love Ozzy she obviously was trying to guess the start. and without rules, she guessed it perfectly. but rules are in place for that very reason. don’t guess the start, go on the gun.
They Love Ozzy no. The brain can’t comprehend that quick. That’s why she didn’t fight it, she knew she cheated.

Positizing 20.6?
girl that is a bad time even for a hurdle
Bro I'm 12 and my time is 13.26 for 75 meter hurdles😂
13.26 at 12 for 75m hurdles? Not bad👏. A year ago when I was 12 I ran the 80m hurdles at the USATF Jr Olympics in a 12.75. But bragging about the 75m hurdles in a 100m hurdles video is crazy. I can tell you firsthand that I run the 100m hurdles now and it's a totally different story and competition from the 80m I used to run😕

Well, how are u doing rn
That was the BEST start I've ever seen lol. Seriously, she was just that much quicker getting out of her blocks; she totally went as soon as the buzzer sounded.
I ran track for 5 years, still currently am... and I've been proud of myself for a long time.. then I stumble across this video...
Can somebody please confirm to me that this is in fast motion. It is like watching professional gymnast do a back handspring.😂😂😂
Rachel Enders lol
Rachel Enders it's in slow motion
I don't like that 1-shot disqualification
When you play the video in .25 speed she started right as the buzzer went off and the reporter called it a “blatant early start”. She did not start early the other athletes started late.
two to four years of work gone within a millisecond ;o
7:16 That looks painful...
okori started right on time. That must have been an awful experience for her
As a sprinter, that was an almost scarier false start. Anyway the rules start that the athletes are only allowed to start .1 after the gun
I always complain about running, despite being on the track and field team, because im slow af, but yet I always admire and watch these girls every Olympics, and tell myself that I’ll try harder.
The fact that this is exactly my thoughts about myself. I'm glad someone else feels the same way
@@maxandcheese2285 hey u should keep moving! I vowed to try hard after watching the Olympics and I’m number one on my team now! Just keep up the pace and you got this! ❤️❤️
I run track I feel nervous for them honestly those moment before you set of there the scariest they go on for what feels like hours that's why people sometimes do false starts
I'm so excited I'm learning hurdles technique soon for track season I'm so excited everyone says I'll be good at it

It makes me so emotional when I see people winning the Olympics. Like they worked so hard to even be qualified to go to the Olympics and the fact that they want it like it’s their dream you know and I just get super emotional because it’s them achieving the dream that they work so hard for these past years or maybe all their life
Yea fr
Can't wait for the 2016 Olympics!
So can i
It's 2018 now
NanaBanana can I still watch it live?
😂
For everyone saying Okori started early and everyone else started late, the gun didn't trigger yet when she ran. That sound when she ran was the buzzer, telling there was a false start.
I just love how everyone congratulates their competitors.
Oh my gosh they barley even move when going over the hurdles!
That's what you're supposed to do
I’m running hurdles in a few days for the first time at my first high school meet (as a freshman girl), I’m so nervous and thought watching races would help but it just makes me more nervous😂
I hope you do well! I am also a freshman girl but my schools are still closed because of corona
How'd you fair? I ran high school, (100m, 100m hurdles, and 4x100) then Texas tech 4 years(hurdles and 4x1) I will be honored to help you with tips for speed. Bet you can recall shin splints? Took me out my last year. Haven't run since 2007 but I'm training my kiddo, not for anything other than fun though. Well wishes.

i still watch these on the daily and it frustrates me that a lot of you don't understand what happened. that buzzing noise was NOT the signal for the race to start, it was a signal that someone false started. those were not fast reflexes, she was WAAAYY ahead. she anticipated the shot too much. the shortest time possible for a human relfex is barely 0.1 seconds and what she did wasnt that, she literally jumped the gun
xoxo, track athlete
the lady Didnt start early, she started on time, all the other women started late
Miley's World nope bud
play it at 0.25 speed it's sad but she did :(
I’m pretty sure the buzzer means false start and the gunshot is a actual start , she went off before the gun
I run track now and do hurdles they are fun 😆😆😆😆
Que grandes competidores viendolo muy intensamente.motivacion e inspiracion 2020🇵🇪
Dawn Harper such a great athlete, god bless her
she didn't start early tho. Start at 3:30 and pause at 3:32 they triggered the gun and she left.
well it was an early start because regardless if the gun went off or not doesn't matter what matters is how fast she left from the platform after the gun went off since humans can only physically register something so fast and if they leave before there body tells them what they heard then that is indicative of an early start.

I mean she's gotta wait another 4 years for the next Olympics, I reckon she should've got another try.
Btw for everyone saying she just has fast reflexes to the sound, the sound wasn’t the go sounds. They go on the cap gun shot not a buzz sound. It buzzed because she false started
