World champion Malaika Mihambo has added the Olympic title to her collection after jumping 7.00m in the final round of the women's long jump competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

I love her channel Tara and Hunter.
The way the medalist all congratulate each other and showed such genuine joy and appreciation for each others efforts is beautiful to watch. Watching that 100 meter race in after the Olympics was such a sad contrast when the one participant refused to acknowledge any of her other competitors. These ladies here demonstrated how it's done, on and off the track.

Tara just jumped 7.16 in Eugene last saturday. And 9 times beyond 7 meters in 2024 spring.
There is now no doubt she will win gold in Paris.

Malaika is awesome under pressure winning with her last jump she also did something similar in Doha when out of the medals she qualified for three more jumps with her last jump then went on to win the gold medal.

Brittney Reese has the best long jump technique I’ve ever seen!!
It's not all that elegant but it's effective. Spanovic has an awful technique, always leaning backwards when landing, risking making a dent where there would otherwise be none. She seems to have a phobia about getting sand on her hands. Hard to explain it otherwise.
Well, Mihambo's technique is way better .

Mihambo. She always, seems to, leave her best till last. It is what true champions do under pressure. Produce the goods when the heat is on, well deserved gold.
Bekh. I can't for the life of me understand how a professional jumper can only record 1/6 jumps, in a competition of this magnitude. Seems mentally fragile.
Brume. Her turn will come, young talented, and I expect her to get better. She will probably be favourite for the next Olympics.
Davis. Another excellent talent, full of energy, great technique and will only get better, dark horse for the next Olympics.
Reese. Fantastic athlete, unlucky not to get another gold, will she manage the next Olympics? I hope so, great ambassador for the sport.
In Bekh's defence rather than shortening her stride and not being able to threaten the medal positions she went and risked it for the biscuit. I can respect that. The gamble just didn't pay off because she performed the run up wrong 5/6 times haha
@@BeIlows The thing is, not just this major competition, she does it at others too, on a regular basis. I understand, just going for it, attitude. Getting as tight to the line as possible. But you have to look at Mihambo, where she is regularly 20/30 cm behind the line and can still make 7 meters. All or nothing attitude is fine, so long as you have the goods to produce that one jump, unfortunately in Bekh's case, even if she did nail the line, i'm not convinced, she has that gold medal winning jump anyway.
@@GusMac6129 I think that's exactly what she understands.. Mihambo is just better at the moment, that's why Bekh needs to risk to try to beat her, she cannot afford to be 20cm behind the line. On the other hand, 5 fails are too many, I agree.. Love Maryna, hope she will get her medal in Paris :)

Probably the least impressive final by results but really tense for all medals till the end. Quite the irony that Španović jumped 7,00 in qualifications and would have won the golden medal here.
she would have won the silver. Mihambo would have had the better second best jump.
@@larsmadsen9483 Both athletes took just two of their allotted maximum of three jumps because they had achieved the qualifying standard for the final but Malaika Mihambo did have the second longest and joint longest jumps in the qualifying round and final of 6.98 metres and 7.00 metres respectively therefore this makes Malaika Mihambo the winner but I think Aleksa is referring to just the qualifying round.
It's not the same qualify than the pressure of the final, mentality counts.

What is the significance of the distance they run before they jump? It looks like the speed is at max after 20 m so why not shorten their run?!
I think it just looks like it. Everyone tries to get to the board as quickly and relaxed as possible. If the run-up were too short, you would still be accelerating and not ready for an effective takeoff.
My fellow Nigerian Ese Brume so unlucky not to get the gold having led for 4 or 5 rounds only lose the gold by about 1 inch and the silver on countback.
I wonder if she would have done better to rest for one or two rounds before jumping again.
