You could feel the tension as she was walking up and down preparing for her third attempt and then.........Stop !......she has to wait for a National anthem to be played. More time for her to zone in on this final attempt. This competition was about who wanted it the most. Mariya clears 1.96 and survives elimination. Then I cried even harder when I saw her cried🥺 I love Yuliya, Iryna, Nicola and Yaroslava too, but I really want Lasitskene to be the champion because she deserves it! A must see for everybody! Mariya's impressive resilience, and australian Nicola's impressive determination. Yaroslava has many Olympics ahead of her, and her turn will come for sure, but not without a fight. The High Jump mode shows that the competition is not against others, but an individual battle. Well from Maria (ROC) we learn that never trying to stop. Nothing impossible. I can barely not believe that in Maria's 3rd attempt will be succeed. Bcs she failed on just 1.96 two times. Congrats! Best senior ever and could give positive vibes to other young athletes!!!
Finally found this, just like many others, who were misled with the title. What I wanted to show you is this moment at 1:35:15 - you can only see her grimace and hardly hear her vocal reaction( due to outside noise) for failing to clear 198 in 1st try. I watched it on Eurosport, the noise was pretty low and you could clearly hear her grunt after she failed. It's so rare to see/hear any reaction from her, positive or negative, so, when I heard this, I knew that she will win the gold and I'm so happy for her.
What a BRILLIANT commentary job. The Olympics is not only the best athletes in the world but clearly the best sports analysts and commentators. Not only did they get my adrenaline up and make me excited for every moment but they taught me about the sport, they broke down the human phycology of what is happening in the moment to these athletes and gave me an extra appreciation for what I am watching. Yes it was great commentary. They made two massive mistakes though regarding the positions of Nicola and Yaroslava. Although they did correct themselves on both occasions.
The commentators really didn't give Lasitskene much due. They are going on and on about McDermott, and saying how cool and chill she was being. She was all drama! (Don't get me wrong--I enjoyed it, but it was hardly chill). Meanwhile Lasitskene was calm and quiet the whole meet and it was like they forget about her every time until she jumped, and then it's be like "Oh, yeah, there's the three-time Olympic Champion. Minimal talk about her technique, history, personality. Nothing until the win. Kind of annoyed me. What a champion. What an awesome performances by the top women, too.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Mariya! Watching you today, once again, because I need to review your fantastic victory. Exciting! I was so touched when Mariya won her 1st gold in her 1st olympics event, knowing that her journey to olympics is not easy. It is probably the 1st time seeing as she had so much emotion throughout the whole session esp she won the gold that night. She is a machine, not(very very rare) showing any emotion before she won the competitio. So proud of her. Love from Malaysia 🇲🇾 And Mahuchikh may get her gold at Paris 2024.
HOW did she do it? Last attempt at 1.96, and she does it. She had been folding at 1.95+, all year long leading up to the Olympics. You could literally see the writing on the wall, just as that announcer dude was saying - the BEST high jumper to not win an Olympic gold. It's rare when you find a 'magical' athlete, like this. That look on her face of hope and fear. NO one like her. THE best moment in the Olympics, if you are a big fan of 'the Shadow Chick,' aka Mariya Lasitskene. Also. Never seen her emotional before. The Olympic Committee screwed the Russian Track n Field team at the Rio Games, when she was unbeatable. Must be this HUGE weight off her shoulders. I'm hoping Putin gave her something better, when the athletes went to meet with him. She deserved it. And yet, NObody, who had seen her compete this year, thought she was even going to medal. She misses that attempt at 1.96m. She's out of the top 10.

Thank you for this. NBC spent more time showing Cunninghams father than any of these great athletes and didnt show the third place finisher and the best in the World in 2021 , at all. No wonder the World doesnt like America, we are so "its all about us". Ive been following Lasitskene for years and was so angry with our coverage here .
It was absolutely insane and SO frustrating. Why waste time on a guy on the sidelines who isn't even competing, I don't care who he is, when we could be watching the best female high jumper of all time??
An American broadcasting network highlighting americans? How despicable. Can we stop with this “let’s all hate on america” thing as if 99.9% of other country’s networks don’t do the same thing, and many of them much MUCH worse.
unfortunately that is the view many of us have of parochial United "States-ism". But there are lots of Americans (I think the ones that travel) that are not like that. As far as showing non American athletes .... it's not as if they all jump at once so why not show at least the top performers as they progress and talk about them. Showing some grace and interest in others is a wonderful attribute
@@jboww2121 except that this channel you’re watching featured unbiased and thorough coverage of all the athletes. I'm sooo happy for Maria! Finally, her time has come even 5 years too late. Also, I'm impressed with Safina. Her first global final, 0 experience and she has the confidence to pass at 1.84m!
if I recall correctly Safina had only one failure in qualifying and they went up to 1.96. I think McDermott was the only perfect qualifier. Safina is definitely on the radar for the future!
@@gregoryschreiter8505 McDermott and Vukovic were the only ones with a clear card in qualifying. Even Lasitskene and Cunningham needed 3 attempts at 1.95m.

2:13:00 is the key moment when Mariya reacts and takes the lead for the first time.
Love from Malaysia 🇲🇾
And Mahuchikh may get her gold at Paris 2024.
I have a feeling nicola mcdermott will get the gold in paris..
Fly my little bird fly.......you are my favorite in all world. I saw all your competinions. BRAVO from all greece
Ну так на то она и чемпионка , чтобы преодолевать трудности.
No No, nothinhg more from Putin. Please, she deserve all the best! No dirty......
I loved McDermott's preparation moment, she looks capable of flying away.

Congratulations to Mariya Lasitskene on her gold medal performance in the women's high jump! This is an incredible achievement and she is definitely deserving of the title. Great job also to Nicola McDermott and Yaroslava Mahuchikh for their silver and bronze medal finishes, respectively. This was truly a great event to watch and everyone involved should be very proud of their accomplishments.
The intro will forever be legendary ❤
Just can't stop watching it.👍 What an amazing, marvelous competition!! And what a great QUEEN of high jump - MARIA LASITSKENE!!❤
Your attempted deflection of valid criticism of America is just yet more American bias. The rest of the world hates it because it’s SUCH an unpleasant trait. As America falls deeper and deeper into decline, and gives the world comedy with its deluded, incompetent presidents, somehow Americans still think they’re better than everyone else. The rest of the world knows the truth, and laughs at America.
