    With everyone complaining about the commentators- he was just meaning that she didn’t have to run so fast (ie: exhaust herself) for the semifinal. She could’ve ran slower, still qualified for finals, and been less tired in the end. Which would give her less to recover from later, before finals. He’s not just saying she should’ve went slower because she’s “too fast” or whatever.

      @@thomasanderson5004 I ran cross country, the 1600m, steeple chase, and the 800 all the time. The 800 race plan is way different. Probably the toughest race in track and field. The 400 is an all out sprint for 1 lap. For the 800, you're doing that twice. The 1600m is a distance race like in cross country. You pace yourself and decide when to bring out your speed.

  • @jackmarston3979

    Ok guys, the commentator wasn't wrong. It's only the heats, 800m runners should never, and I repeat NEVER, run their 100% in the heats or even the semi-finals. To recover from an 800m race fully, you need at least 4 days which these athletes don't have. She could easily have qualified, so why does she need to run so fast? I agree that she doesn't want to take any chances but that doesn't mean that the commentator was wrong.

      Bryan Gosling You’re right. As an 800m runner myself, our coach always told us to keep ourselves at a 50-75% and gradually increasing to a 100% at the last 100m or so. If I were in the commentary’s place, I would have wondered that aloud as well.

    anyone who was confused with the commentators reaction to johnson montano’s race clearly has never run high level track. even at the high school level an 800 is run at least twice with heats and finals. at the olympic level, the athlete has to run the 800 a total of 3 times with heats, semis, and finals. all these runs happen within the span of a 3-4 days, allowing for barely any recovery. so it is completely irrational to run all out or incredibly quickly in the first heat because while it may qualify you for the semis, you will struggle in the semis and either not make the final or do poorly in the final.

If you positive split by 10 seconds(!!!), that just means you clearly do not know how to pace and you went full lactic, which is really stupid to do in a semifinal because it’ll be harder to recover.

    The commentators actually do know what they're talking about. She has two qualifying races before the third race which is the final. "Doing you best" in the qualifying rounds isn't a good strategy because you want energy left to win the final. Unless you know you arent fast enough to make the final that is.

  • @LuddyFish_
    @LuddyFish_ 3 года назад +34

    As a swimmer, I agree with the commentators. Any distance event, you have to manage your speed wisely. There's a reason you don't see Usain Bolt running the 800m or longer. And when you're doing multiple races because of heats, semi-finals and finals, it becomes more critical to manage your speed so that you don't overwork yourself, unless you know you won't make it otherwise or know you'll fully recover in time, which is only the case when the next race happens the next day.

      @@diney7085 The men have to give us food, shelter, and clothes. Good husbands that follow Islam will follow this. Women can work too if we want but we cannot be forced to work. We can literally do anything we want as long as it's not haram (prostitution, selling drugs, mafia work, bartender, etc). Men aren't allowed to complain because it's their duty to provide all this for us. I'm a runner and I know from experience,if you run that fast towards the begging,your planning for failure.You may think that you can do it by giving yourself a head start,but by the end you'll slow down and someone who's been pacing themselves will pass you.This time she was lucky,real lucky.

    I’m sorry... I understand the whole “breaking barriers” thing and I totally support that aspect of the games, but if you’re running a 2:45 you should not be in the Olympics.

    • @growingbudz3902
      @growingbudz3902 3 года назад +4

      Well it's not even the semi-finals so I don't see what the problem is. This is just like a qualifying race that every country has a right to participate in if they qualified in their respective country. The Olympics were meant to showcase every countries best athletes in a particular field as well not just the fastest people in the world, that's why they have qualifying rounds. If you just want to see the fastest people then wait till the finals or stick to watching world championships and not the Olympics. Imagine if you applied the same logic towards Olympic Basketball, every year it'd be the US versus someone else, wouldn't really feel like a competition of all the countries. I do agree that as a country you might want to with hold someone from running as to not embarrass your country but at least she was actually trying and she was a serious athlete unlike that Elizabeth Swaney girl who actually shamefully embarrassed her country at the winter olympics for half pipe snowboarding by scamming her way in.

      Alfie Brookes do you realize each country sends the best athletes they have to the olympics? Each country has different skilled athletes which you can look up each one's stats. They are proud to be running for their country, even if they don't win. It's called pride in reaching the olympics.

      This was the worst way to qualify, I believe they take the top three so that extra energy used was a waste. She had another race the next day, so compared to ther competitors they will be in better shape than she will be. Distance events are about gauging yourself and making sure you leave everything you have left in your final lap, not your first.
