    Full replay of the Artistic Women's Beam Final from the North Greenwich Arena during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
    Artistic gymnastics was introduced at the very first Olympic Games in 1896 in Athens, and has been present at every edition of the Games since then. At the beginning, it comprised disciplines that are difficult to qualify as "artistic", such as climbing and acrobatics.
    The foundations of the Olympic gymnastics programme were laid at the 1924 Games in Paris, when the men's apparatus individual and team competitions appeared. In 1928, women were included in the Amsterdam Games. It was not until 1952 that the women's programme was developed, with seven events, and then stabilised at six events as from the 1960 Games in Rome. =========================================

  • @ZZ-lk8gn
    @ZZ-lk8gn 4 года назад +213

    Why are Sui Lu's tears necessarily interpreted as a sign of disappointment? You know, sometimes when you finally complete something very hard, you cry not just the moment you finish them. You just need some time to digest, and suddenly a sense of relief makes you cry. As a college student, I once cried before I went to bed, on the day when I finished my sixth final exam. It seems to me that Lu cried because all those years of trainings were so tough, and she finally finished her Olympics. Not "bad sportsmanship".

    • @gccstan31
      @gccstan31 3 года назад +26

      Nope, she was definitely disappointed. But I wouldn't call that bad sportsmanship, considering the context. Sui Lu was arguably the best beam worker of that quad, her routines were really admired and rightfully so. You could tell she was really proud of the pure level of skill she achieved on that apparatus. Now Deng already won a gold medal at the prior Olympics and it was non other than Deng that got chosen over Sui for the Olympic team in 2008. She probably was giga frustrated (also I personally think that Deng was a tiny bit overscored)

      The best thing about Shannon is that, unlike Tim Daggett at NBC (U.S.), she isn't yelling or constantly talking over every blessed thing. Knowing when to be quiet and let the competition speak for itself is an underappreciated skill.

      It's because she was supposed to compete in the 2008 Olympics but she lost her chance. Knowing that this is her final chance in the Olympics and she lost her gold she got disappointed. I guess that's reasonable.

      I think Sui Lu was really disappointed about her own performance, she didn't do as well as she normally could!! She was a little nervous! That's the price she had to pay for being the very first athlete to perform in this event!!!
      And since this was likely her only chance to prove herself in the Olympics, she couldn't quite accept & let go of her own " less than perfect" show in front of the world !!!

    When I was younger I could run, jump, hop, and skip my way across a balance beam. I even loved doing gymnastics and I drastically improved in the first few months. But my mom pulled me out because a few months in, and I still couldn’t do a good cartwheel. And do this day, I regret letting her pull me out because it’s all fallen away. I can’t even walk confidently across a beam anymore. So I have mad respect for these ladies who make it look so effortless.

The first place's reward can get the gymnast buy a whole house for her family and let her family live well for at least 5 years. If I were Sui Lu, I would really want to kill myself as it's not that I didn't perform well enough, it's all because of the 0.1 difficulty and one more tumbling and the score can be higher than Deng Lin Lin's.

    This was one of the best finals ever. Not because of the splatfest, but because of the top 2, Sui Lu and Deng Linlin. I believe that these two women are some of the best beam workers EVER. So rarely do we see elegance and maturity displayed on a piece like Balance Beam, all combined with difficulty and pristine execution.
    I honestly could see how anyone could make an argument for how either should have won, but I will always remember them for the phenomenal work they presented here. To this day I haven't seen anyone, not Simone Biles, not Shang Chunsong, not Aliya Mustafina reach their level of work.

    Why Sui Lu is emotional: Deng Linlin once more outbest her. Deng was the final gymnast selected ahead of Sui Lu for China's 2008 Olympic Team in Beijing who went on to win Gold. Now, even doing her best with that program (barely any error) and she's still not good enough for a gold. It is sometimes tough and even harder to know and acknowledge that your best is never going to be good enough for the best spot, if that makes sense.
    I mean, yes, Iordache or Komova might felt sad that they didn't live to their best expectations in the biggest game of their life but at the same time, they know they could perform better. That's not the case with Sui Lu

Regardless of Government differences between the two political ideals, that has nothing to do with the PEOPLE of China or the PEOPLE of America. You've been convinced into thinking they're all awful and that's incredibly sad to see that it was so easy to convince you. These coaches have trained their athletes well, and gave them the praise they deserved. As did the others. Stop being so insanely xenophobic. Get a grip.

    I don't understand why their trainer or whoever it is who supports them doesn't hug them. It's seems like when they do bad no one wants anything to do with them. It just seems odd that the people who do well get hugs and the others don't. It just seems sad, like if I fell off the balance beam I'd want a hug or some support. Btw I think anyone who does anything on a balance beam is crazy talented. It's amazing how someone can even walk on one let alone do back flips and all this crazy stuff.

      But some of them just seem to do not want a hug in this moment - I think if I'm disappointed about me, I wouldn't want a hug. But I feel like nearly all seem so unhappy, maybe it is just the pressure but I don't know

    This has been one of the best BB final in terms of the artistry and execution, specially Sui Lu, Komova, Catalina, Larisa and Deng. I prefer Sui Lu's gymnastics better then Deng's since she is so fluid with her movements but Deng really gave a great performance here. Can not stop watching this.

      They both did well but sui lu was kinda a sore loser / bad sport about coming in 2nd and crying even tho she did so well I mean some girls fell and one got her metal taken back and they held it together. if I was Linlin I would have felt bad
