    Romania's Sandra Raluca Izbasa wins the women's gymnastic artistic vault at the London 2012 Olympic Games (5 August).
    Mc Kayla Maroney of the USA took the silver medal with Russia's Maria Paseka taking bronze in the event.
    Artistic gymnastics was introduced at the very first Olympic Games in 1896 in Athens, and has been present at every edition of the Games since then. At the beginning, it comprised disciplines that are difficult to qualify as "artistic", such as climbing and acrobatics.
    The foundations of the Olympic gymnastics programme were laid at the 1924 Games in Paris, when the men's apparatus individual and team competitions appeared. In 1928, women were included in the Amsterdam Games. It was not until 1952 that the women's programme was developed, with seven events, and then stabilised at six events as from the 1960 Games in Rome.

In addition to that, just before the Olympics, she unveiled a splendid Cheng. It's true, she did it in training, but it was really well-executed, and clearly ready for competition. Because Maroney fell, she chose not to complete it. With a Cheng, plus her first vault, Izabasa would have had her a higher combined difficulty than Maroney. Izbasa deserved the Gold, and maybe Paseka the silver, but I do think McKayla deserved to medal, remember that its not just about how you land its about the form in the air, the mount, and as long as he feet touch first than it's just a point deduction, and her first vault alone was amazing. I do think she didn't deserve Gold or Silver. Happy for Izbasa, she's been on of my favorites since 2008, and what a beauty she is.

    Who was better, who did a perfect vault, who had the biggest difficulty ... it doesn't matter anymore. Sandra Izbașa has won the olympic gold medal and she deserves it! It was her day, it was her moment to show to the world what she can do. She was and will always be amazing! Look, Sandra has missed the medal on floor final but she smiled at the end of the routine, she accept it althought is wasn't a happy moment. If Maroney is better than her, well, she had to show it at the right time so this wasn't happen. McKayla couldn't get it at London and that's it, my friends.

      Izbasa definitely should've won, but I think Paseka robbed Janine of a medal. She very nearly fell on her her Amanar and got the same execution score as Janine did on her Tsuk double full, and only .066 lower than Rogers. Maroney's scores were correct...it's Paseka's I don't get. That said, I am totally pulling for her to get gold this year. She looks like a different gymnast! It's inspiring.

    36:02 This announcer clearly didn't remember what he said. McKayla's score was never readjusted from when it was announced at 30:46 to be 15.083 for a combined score. He was obviously only looking at her score for her first vault that was 15.866 and not the combined average of the two.

    People shouldn't try to excuse McKayla's mistakes in this final. First vault she landed one foot out of line and the second one she fell. She looks great in the air, but she messed up so she and all the people defending her should lose their arrogance. She didn't deserve that medal.

    • @leeannmussatt2080
      @leeannmussatt2080 9 лет назад +29

      Her execution is very well, the reason why she didn't get the gold was because of her mistakes when landing. She is a two time world champion on the vault, that obviously shows that she is superior to the other athletes. She most definitely does not deserve the gold for the performance in the finals, but she most definitely deserves a medal for her technical skills and her execution.

    • @KseniaSemenovaFan

      Leeann Mussatt funny that in 2008 when Cheng Fei got the bronze on vault, everyone was saying that it was not fair, this was about the same mess up as Maroney did 2012. 4 years later and with her being American it would be okay if she would have won, WTF? (and remember in 2008 a fall was only 0.8 off) And Cheng Fei was 3 time World Champion 2005,2006 and 2007. what was before or after Olympics does not matter, it is about the moment and Maroney was not superb at all at this moment 2012.

    Not sure why everyone keeps excusing the commentators for their confusion. Yes, I realize there was some computer glitch but there was no way that Maroney had an average score of 15.866 for two vaults when she fell on the second one. Maroney scored a 15.866 with her first vault and 14.3 for her second, which gave her an average of 15.083. All they had to do was have someone review the tape to double-check and confirm this.

    This vault is considered to be the most difficult and dangerous manoeuvre in gymnastics by many professionals all over the globe. The Produnova is considered extremely risky and not many have attempted it; there are only five women in the world till date who have landed the vault successfully. It has a difficulty rating of 7.0, the highest of all. If an athlete does land this perfectly, there is almost a guaranteed chance of winning the event.
    Experts say that if it is not performed with perfect calculation, the athlete may land on her back or neck instead of the feet which may lead the player to a major injury or even death. But despite the high risk, gymnasts attempt the vault as it can get them higher rewards and a chance to win over their opponents. It can quickly boost the player’s score and is worth significantly more than the other vaults.
