I am amazed at how strong Gypsy is even when he didn't see the carrier switch coming. SO STRONG with his goliath micro too, doing bodyshots at the right time, hitting interceptors at the right time, making mech look viable against a large upgraded carrier group is insane.
I was thinking he's at 2/1 why not leave the starport there a bit longer and get out a faster vessel there... just get 1 vessel and maybe 2 goliaths at most to deny vision for J.Y. more effectively/fully.
When your opponent has no anti-air and you successfully surprise carriers, why not just go take out production rather than free up supply for them to make goliaths?
I'm not sure why Arty and Gypsy both didn't get EMP and add more vessels. It would slow the carriers aggression down big time and completely negate the effectiveness of the DTs. Then when the bank rolls got high, why not add like 10 ghosts with lockdown and force the carriers to target them through the goliaths. I'm obviously not even close to the level these guys are at but those seem like the obvious counters to carriers and they don't cost much or take up much supply for the amount of effectiveness they can provide.
Covert ops + lockdown research + ghost is like 400 mineral, 300 gas or something like that. Almost the cost of a single carrier. And you can produce out of like 1 or 2 rax at most. They are supply efficient but it is taxing and a significant investment. Although I agree it'd be cool to see it come out. Hard to have the ghosts get close enough though. Vessels seem like a very wise play and I agree, not sure why you dont just throw them out there. Especially with the huge gas banks that Arty had in last game and Gypsy in this one as well. Saving some of those scans, saving units (as DT often got a unit or two before scan went out) and dropping an EMP possibly on carriers would be huge. Imagine like 1000 damage+ EMP really softens them up a ton.

Ghosts with lockdown sound great but they are 1)flimsy 2)move slow 3)take a very long time to get. Instead of 10 ghosts you get 2 ghosts and get a nuke..cause you're not gonna have more than 1 rax with a mech build. If you're gonna gamble with ghosts you may as well try to sneak a nuke on his carrier group while he's fighting the goliaths. Have the second ghost sit at a protoss expansion and drop a nuke on that during an engage too for laughs. Battlecruisers are awesome vs carriers due to yamato and could be a possible answer to this type of protoss strategy if you can scan and see the stargates/beacon in time. Both Arty and Gypsy should have been more suspicious after sitting so long with no toss comin at em.
In theory it should be good since observers are easy to snipe with ghosts and goliaths. People have already mentioned the cost but there are a few other key factors. Ghosts are also notoriously hard to micro, they are the smallest unit in the game and are easy to snipe with their abysmal health. The gas cost is also not insignificant. Adding ghosts means less money for tanks. With that in mind the protoss ground army will steamroll a ghost+goliath comp
It turns out Jy is impressively strong, but IDK why no EMP. First nice thing Jy hide the carriers, after that Gypsy’s reaction with goliaths was perfect and at the end Jy won. Nice!

If he had have saved those units there... before they just got fully wiped out - I don't understand the siege there although I guess it was probably just a mis-click. And they're not like trebuchets that can be halted when packing or unpacking.
Caster mistook qty 3 interceptors as +3 air weapons. It was only +1 at the time. You have to hover over the interceptors to see the damage. Basic knowledge lacking.
It's so easy to make a full group of max upgrade carriers and take your opponent by surprise. There's nothing Gypsy could've done about it. Edit: to be clear, I was trying to be sarcastic
Wraiths with cloak that kill observers first is something you can do. One solid surprise attack and you have no carriers. Also Valkyries are doing an amazing work against interceptors. And of course ghosts with lockdown. There are many options to fight against carriers.

Jaeyun shouldnt atack ground units, only fly to gypsy maine base and destroy all factories and suplydepots to block gypsy entire army. Gypsy would in deep shit. No antiair units couse his whole army was scv, vultures, tanks, few goliaths one dropship and one science vehicle. And enemy didnt kill tanks so you have still blocked suply specialy that carriers destroy suply depots and factories. So you cant produced new units couse you dont have free supply, so you have to suicide your own units for produced antiair units, but you dont have time, suply points and factories. It would be better than shooting down useless tanks and free on that way supply points for gypsy so we just watching swarms of goliaths.

Wraith ball can kill mass carriers once per game cause once you show that card the protoss will get like 5 obs. It's very difficult to kill the 2/3 obs flying with the carrier group btw and if you don't do it fast enough the wraiths get melted. Valks do nothing because carrier armor is too high. But a crazy 4 starport battlecruiser swap could be awesome...if you catch what the protoss is up to soon enough. Sadly Gypsy did not catch on til it was too late.
Jaeyun should just fly into maine base of gypsy and demolish his farms and factories than start killing few goliaths and his tanks for free gypsy suply. Just imagine 200 suply units all scv, vultures tanks and just fe antiair goliaths vs 12 carriers. And your enemy didnt kill ground units, so if you need produced goliaths you need suicide your own vultures and tanks:P

Probe kills in late game don’t matter it’s the early pressure that slows down the macro.

gypsy should have recalled the carriers on to the factories in the main as the reveal rather than just engaged at the front

Worst possible choice vs carriers. You could melt the shields off real quick but the hull of carriers starts at 4 armor. Valk damage starts at 5...
