I think how Jaedong won this was he expanded very far and got away mining the far out bases first. So as the game progressed, he still had minerals on bases near to his main which gave him easier time to defend compared to flash who was stretched out at the extreme
I had to chuckle out loud when you were talking about how much an economy matters to winning and then you immediately started selling merchandise. Lol I love it.
Wow, such a great game between the two top players. Unfortunately I have lost my bet on Flash, my favourite Terran player at all times. But it was fun watching playing Jaedong. Thanks for sharing Falcon.
for the information, the old replay files were high chance broken/corrupted, that is why many afk troops/workers. I think we still can find this match on youtube, I forgot the channel and I remembered I watched this match during year 2010
jaedong is a starcraft god , the dark swarm and the plague was fantastic, is very dificult for a zerg player wins in the late game to a terran , and he beats flash , what a match
I'm also under the impression that zerg has a (albeit small) disadvantage in the late game, because defilers and your squishy forces in general need more micro than you need for the siege tanks. (Saying that as a terran player)
Absolutely! In their prime, Flash may have higher apm but jaedong has overall best skills imo. Zerg always requires macro control because they are always out of number!!
If i recall correctly, when i watched this replay 10 years ago I watched it with a replay detector where I could see the clicks of the player. Flash objective here was to never let Jaedong get the gas at the expansion located @ 3'o clock. That was key to his victory but he couldnt control so much of the map.
Omg amazing. I wanted another cast of this. Such an amazing game... Possibly the best. My other favorite is Bisu v. Jaedong on Circuit breakers. Thanks for the cast!!
Missed a lurker hold @11:46. You actually look at the three lurkers Jaedong does it with, but then pan to the push into his natural when they actually burrow and stop the reinforcements.
@@phamduc1987 The play itself has been called "stop lurkers" or "hold lurkers" interchangeably for a while now by announcers or casters. The in-game order issued is "Hold Position" though. Lurkers actually do not do anything except for stop attacking for a just moment if you tell them to hold position while burrowed, as they cant move anyways =P. You need to have another unit in the control group you are issuing the order to, that actually can hold position, which forces the lurkers to stop their attacks.
@@tdsteakhouse I have not played broodwar for years (at least 7-8 years), as I remember you have to use the "stop" control, not "hold position" control to intentionally prevent the lurker from attacking automatically. is that because of an update, or my bad memory ?

Yes. I propose that this is the all-time classic game of the channel:) Old but Gold. I am also looking forward to new Jaedong games! He is back and playing 🤫
I honestly love the pacing of Broodwar compared to SC2. Lots of small victories and losses everywhere. You don't deathball super often because most maps don't allow for it, and even then you can't just A-move because of the limiting control groups and tide swinging spell caster type units.
agreed the thing that makes broodwar great compared to SC2 is that the tension and pacing is changing wildly throughout the games. This makes it more random and exciting to watch. The potential for comebacks is also greater. In SC2 the tension is at a constant high all the time, which makes it boring to watch imo. There are not many positional plays and the pattern or pacing of the games are just the same.
I agree with your points but I would also add that bad pathing also increases the amount of control you need so less death ball-y too. Really good pathing lets you box move a whole army whereas pathing where units are constantly bumping and blocking each other keeps you from moving your army as a giant unit.
Oh man what if they selective brought back some of the SC2 stuff back to brood war it would be best, limited unit groups is a great idea. I wish Hydras did +1 vs marines and +2 vs mutalisks, and Dragoons did less dmg vs wraiths but more dmg vs mutalisks it would be best.
VFX & SFX, hell, the whole feel of SC1 is so much better than sc2. Imagine that best was running on fine on 256 colors. You didn't even need 16bits! Masterpiece!

Basically Jaedong was in crisis mode until he got Hive tech (defilers and nydus) - Also, Flash is very well known for his style to turtle on 3 bases while slowly securing a 4th base. But if you look at this game closely Jaedong never attacked into Flash's corner of the map, except for some harrassment early on. - Normally Nydus Canals are not really very important until very late game, but in this game Jaedong made excellent use of them because of him taking far out bases and spreading out over the map.
