i love the level of commentary on these casts. Would not have had the slightest clue on the calibre of skill in these matches in terms of decision making
Cool games. The expert commentary really holds my interest. I fired up BW for the first time in 8+ years last night because of these casts!! I successfully 1v3d some computers… but it really put in to perspective what high apm allows. There is so much to remember while the action is going on. Its impressive that people don’t run up like 2k minerals while they are also running engagements. Thanks for this channel Artosis
I really wanna get back into the game, but it seems only really good players are still active. Even the lowest tier players are completely out of my league.
I think the ultra-ling plays were super fun to watch! Seeing storms used on that kind of composition was so exciting, because the lings *can* dip out quickly if the zerg player micros in time, but if they don't do it instantly, so many lings just melt. Your excitement was certainly infectious, it's so awesome to see people still have so much love for this game.
For once, I'm getting chills as well. What a crazy series. Love the games - even though I'm 3 months late! Appreciate the coverage, looking forward to future seasons. Cheers
Gotta say man, I love your enthusiasm in watching your casts. Brings me back 20 years when I used to discuss every aspect of a match to friends in college. Keep it up!
Very cool games! Been enjoying CNSL very much. Used to play a lot of Brood War back in college (just LAN parties with friends, mostly) and it's neat to see it played so well.
In that last match it was interesting to see how even though Dewalt lost a LOT of corsairs needlessly, he was still obviously going to win. He set himself up really well strategically.
IMO this series, especially game 1, had a lot more edge of your seat action then the GSL Finals 😅 Never thought I would see the day of Zergling Ultra spam against Protoss since they have Reavers and Storm as hard counters! I am 37 and have been involved with Starcraft since the first game was released. Despite being an old game, it still delivers GREAT Matches and unforeseen strats to this day! TY RT For your dedication and knowledge on Starcraft BW and Keep up the great work. Peace and HF with your family as well ;P
I just finished watching the ASL finals, which was solid. The finals can be amazing but there have been some let-downs over the years. This series was as fun to watch as some of the best moments of the ASL! Amazing games, amazing commentary. The only missing was tasteless telling you "no way he makes guardians" right before the greater spire.
That first game was the goofiest, jankiest, craziest thing I've ever witnessed. I'm all for this happening more times in the future with this matchup, because this shit is peak entertainment.
Lol at Dewalt running up with 3 zealots and 2 archon, killing the hydra den and running away. I love his weird and aggressive styles, especially the way he's constantly attacking multiple bases at once to get drones with his zealots. I want him to win this thing so bad!
Artosis mate I agree 100% that StarCraft is the best game that's for sure. The problem is that the new generations likes easy live, easy money, easy games too. You know most ppl even like watching games better than playing them. Sc is so difficult and that's the main reason new people wont start playing it. Some just play it because it kinda takes you back in time to your childhood :) Anyways the game is fun when you are pro and playing with other pros but it is also fun when you are noob playing other noobs :) I love playing and also watching. The way it goes StarCraft could become like the new chess (it is kinda similar anyways) and in the future people still play it and it comes with every new pc as "windows games" hahaha It is shame that nobody works on anything like books, movies, boardgames etc in sc universe. That would be awesome and more people would start playing as well. Thanks to you and everyone who is keeping it alive.
@@samc9133 It still looked very weird; like you actively have to keep clicking on the mutas to keep them bunched up like that or they'll naturally split. Maybe his camera was on where they mutas were being commanded to go, instead of keeping the camera on them and clicking the minimap.
People are saying how strong Zerg is, but noone is taking about how you can remove 16 MILLION RESOURCES WITH JUST THREE ARCHON SHOTS! INSANE VALUE, CHILLS
I'm reminded of *"InDepth" - Episode 1* when you break down Scarlet v Serral, when she mollywhopped him with ling-lurker by timing out her +1 carapace with his +1 missile attack. Then in another game, Raynor does a variation on ling-lurker, and iirc he went to ling-ultra at the end? Just fun to see some borrowing of ideas back and forth (or accidental evolution to similar ideas) but in different matchups, but same situation that some attack upgrade nullifies zerglings use because of the 2nd most efficient breakpoint upgrade: reducing 3 hits to 2 hits for kill (most efficient is 2 shots to 1 shot), and using carapace upgrade to uno reverse the circumstance to surprise use speedlings all the way to rushed hive cracklings.
I think the reason Protoss went for + Armor was due to how his wall was shaped. When you get + Armor you're doing it to counter Hydras, not Lings. When he had to build a weird wall with the Forge out in the open like that at the start in order to block the Ling run by, he probably assumed that the Zerg would punish it by going 3 Hatch Hydra and break down the wall with relative ease. Of course that and the fact that he sniped the Hydra Den early on incentivized the Zerg to go for Lings with Carapace and gave us that excellent game. Crazy how a single moment in the game can create a cascading effect, changing the entire tech tree on both sides.
Really was insane how well the zerg adapted to getting his lurker tech cancelled. the fact he had an immediate tech mixup to counter that situation was nuts.
That 1st match ... so great to see players stepping outside the "rules and boundaries" set by the top pro players. I mean this one looked better than ASL (looking at you S17 final). Looking forward to seeing a Chinese player making Ghosts viable.
Very interesting match up. Didn’t expect the Zerg player pulled out all the advanced units in the first game. The use of guardians interested me on both games.
This is like what the lore of the game is this is how Aiur fell that second game was so cool that big attack was awesome to watch made me smile ear to ear
always been curious about ultra vs lategame reaver/storm, people say those things counter ultra but losing some health on an ultra seems better than having storm/scarab consistently exploding multiple hydras
First game was spectacular, love seeing the ultras have their moment. My question is, if he makes more zerglings and less ultras do you think that is more or less effective? Is it a larva limitation issue? I felt at times there were not enough zerglings.
Seems like Toss have an easier time dealing with Defilers than Terran. At least they got melee units in Dark Swarm. Plus that feedback on that defiler was sick. I think this is one of the funnest match ups I've watched so far in my short time watching SC1 casts instead of SC2.
In the first game XiaoShuai started the Lurker Aspect research just before he saw +1 armor from Protoss, then Dewalt killed his Hydra Den and the moment Den died XiaoShuai started Queen Nest, he never remade Hydra Den, he made 0 hydralisks (and lurker) for the entire game. Something like 'you sacrificed a bounch of units to snipe my Hydra Den + you went for armor upgrades? oh yeah, it's ling ultra then'
Yes, it seems it was a very situational build. I have to respect XiaoShuai's quick-thinking on this one. Good game-state awareness, good improvisation / adaptation.
I as a i was a protoss player when i did play actively broodwar, have encounter the mass crackling + ultralisk composition before. Its not very common since the hydra+lurker is the most efficient composition against protoss, partially becouse of the ability of bust and contains. It can be kind of op with 12+ ultra maxed in tech, but in this particular match, there where 2 big mistakes dewalt did. The first one was overextending into map while expanding clearly underrating his opponent hability to strike there. The second one was going into the right side of the map and try to attack the most defended place wich was the third of the zerg. And the guardian's blow on the natural was the last nail in the coffing for him. Im not saying im good enough to do it better tho, how plays is always with partial information and we see it all as spectators.
I wonder if mind control could be an effective counter to guardians? You effectively force them to use a bunch of scourge, allowing just a couple corsairs to clear them.
I am not sure if i enjoy SC in general , or just Artosis as a caster in general ... like i would probably not have loved to watch the matches, if i would not have vibed with the caster ... so ignoring the game itself for a second and giving credits to Artosis and all the effort put into this and continuing to push ahead with the great casting !
At the point where it got to the "bridge standoff" I'd have gone into mass scout, with some corsair support and also tech to arbiter. Zerg preventing you from moving across the bridge but also being unwilling to move across it themselves means it's a stalemate. Fast scouts can get past and harass drones. Arbiters if they get anywhere can recall zealots, dt's and reavers to bomb structures. Scout's are awful versus ultras, but they're... okayish against zerglings. They can only respond to the scouts through either scourge, or through starting hydras. It's verymuch a situation where protoss *needs* to get across the map and kill drones & overlords and slow down any expansions.
Loved to see Ultras and Guardians vs Protoss. Seemed to me that Z needs to have air control and at least be on par of upgrades for it to work. Spoiler: The second game, way too many resources were spent teching to both Ultras and Guardians at the same time, and even with defilers it was impossible to hold.
The Ultra Ling was very cool. I would compare it to Reaver for Toss in that it's not something you can go for right away because it's too easy to handle early in the game.
I'd also recommend wrist stretches. IIRC, Day9 has some great hand/wrist/forearm stretches but you can find the same thing just looking up wrist stretches.
37:23 Artosis you missed XiaoShuai attempting a ninja base in the bottom left, but apparently it got killed by something from Dewalt (I'm assuming zealots)! GREAT games though!! Edit: just saw you mention it, my bad!

Great games! Both Xiao's fancy unorthodox builds and DeWalt's by the book execution were enjoyable to observe.
Back go the 00's, pvz meta was ultra-lings vs zealots-archons
bw is such a beautiful game, glad we still have these casts to keep it alive for a wider audience
Insane game 1, love to see ultras and gaurdians
A few weeks ago it was Jaedong going Hydras vs Wraith harass. Now it's Ultras vs Protoss. What a time to be alive!
Guardians used to be a common meta back in the day, you'd have to worry about that switch as much as late game drops.
Love seeing stuff that shakes up the meta. Your commentary really helps contextualize a lot of it too.
Loved the games! I especially enjoy when two huge armies clash together, a rare-ish sight in competitive games imo
Wow that's a Huge Ultralisk on the preview image. Those zealots will have an easy time surrounding him.

Just guessing, either he misclicked and looked away or he just assumed he wouldn't get chased then looked away.
