    Glad you were able to get a handle on the issue. Always good to see us finding solution to our issues and the best part is that its more or less natural and no chemicals used. Good job on documenting you trials as i'm sure it will help out a lot of people who run into something similar.

    I'm glad to hear that you are beating that algae back. I ended up battling cyano on my tanks because I added mysis without rinsing them first. That's all it took.

    • @InappropriateReefer
      @InappropriateReefer  8 лет назад +2

      I don't rinse my mysis before feeding it... wow, maybe I should start rinsing as well.

    Great update vid. I believe RODI water makes all the difference. As I've heard it being said before, successful reef-keeping is all about water quality management.

    Looking good, I wish I could get my algae problem under control. Sand bed very dirty, have to turkey based off the rocks every couple days. But I’m already using our Rodi water and doing most of what you have done to correct yours so I’m kind of at a loss. Just tried a three day black out we’ll see how that goes keep up the good work

    That's excellent news to see you are finally getting your algae issue under control, and your tank is looking spectacular. We are also experiencing algae issues and hope to get it under control soon too.

    Filter socks are good when they're clean. When they're not, it's like pushing all your water through a turd. Glad we could help with the algae battle. Tank looks good. I also notice whenever I change out the gfo with fresh, that my candycane puffs up more than usual for a week or so. Also, having the torch on the back side of rock increases depth imo. Brs gfo is granular ferric oxide which has measurable iron levels, so your chaeto will take off from that dude!! You'll be pulling out softball sizes a week in no time.
    May I suggest doing a sub giveaway for a coral or so since you're over packed? ;) take care dude

    • @InappropriateReefer
      @InappropriateReefer  8 лет назад

      Interesting to know GFO has these nice bonus side effects, if I had known I may just run it even if it does not contribute to algae control. I actually thought about running some sort of give away but logistically may be tough because I don't want to deal with shipping coral. Maybe in a form of GC once I hit a certain subscribers # as a way of saying thank yous? We will see. =)

    Hi, you are talking about Dino and saying you started running GFO which is contradicting. Dino thrives with low PO4 and NO3. Running GFO will further lower your Phosphates and you should see a dino outbreak if you do that.

    Dinoflagellates is a type of phytoplankton. When I got it. I stoped water changes. Let tank get somewhat dirty. Letting other algae try to grow and out competent. Purchased copepods and Ocean Magik put them in my tank. Doses the Ocean Macik phytoplankton at twice the recommended dose each day and in 3 weeks time it was gone. Biggest thing I think is repopulating my tank with multiple organisms to set things back in balance.

    Beautiful tank! Two things the media reactor is hooked up backwards the water flow should be pushing up not down. The air line to your skimmer is not helping unless it's routed outside of the house to pull fresh air. Keep up the work on the tank don't lose momentum.

    Wonderful display, corals are doing great. Well done reefscape. Diatom outbreaks occur after a tank has fully cycled, yet arent quite mature. It takes time. I like your approach to NATURAL methods of combating diatoms/cyano. Well done. Oh, I think your GFO/CARBON reactor is reverse flow. Thats not good!

    hi thinking about getting me a frog spawn but I was wondering what size is yours when you bought it. I want a large one like yours. thanks peace

    • @InappropriateReefer
      @InappropriateReefer  8 лет назад

      Great choice on the Frogspawn. Thinking back, I think I got my colony about 2/3 the size of what I have right now... then I gave 1/3 of it away to a friend. So it grew to this size in roughly a year. I think as long as you can find a colony of around 18 heads, it will look full when opened up. If you cannot find one single colony, you could also buy mini-colonies and just place them next to each other... sometimes this works even better.

    So finally what was it ? What did you do to get rid of the algae

    • @InappropriateReefer
      @InappropriateReefer  8 лет назад +2

      I think it's the combination of finally using RO/DI water, removing the sandbed in my low-flow refugium (it was a detritus trap), and started running GFO.

    • @jeremyb5740
      @jeremyb5740 7 лет назад +4

      I dont understand how the fuck you have so many subs and views...you JUST started using RO/Di...what do you go around and ask ppl to SUB to ur channel...theres ppl with way more informative vids that have half the subscribers that you have and clearly research and understand the hobby better...dont be proud...you clearly have gotten ur SUBS in a "other than natural way"

    • @petsurvivalguide5628
      @petsurvivalguide5628 7 лет назад +18

      LOL why are you so salty about him being successful. Look there are tons of youtube channels that like you said know everything and are very informative. However that's not what gets subs a lot of the time, he is someone that newer people can watch and learn with. Not to mention his videos are of a good quality both audio wise and visually. Besides when did he ever say that he knows what he is talking about and that you should listen to him? As for saying he shouldn't be proud well saying some dumb shit like that makes you look like a immature kid, he has managed to earn 7.4K subs id say that's damn good for a guy who just likes a hobby and makes videos of it.

    • @jeremyb5740
      @jeremyb5740 7 лет назад

      Yeah....I'm not even going to entertain this really...I'll chalk it up to that you clearly dont understand...nor care about the ocean....what comes out of it and gets put into our hands, and how people like him are careless during the process. Its bad enough we take fish and other sea life out of there natural environments...but its worse when we dont research...we clearly are talented in making videos...which hey thats fine...but I would rather watch a dull boring...but informative and educational video based on facts and proven methods than this garbage...if you feel like you want to question me...which I highly suggest you stay in your lane then you can. However...I'll have you know I base my reef tank knowledge from BRS (hope you know who they are)...and really thats about it. I keep in contact with the lead scientist from Reef Nutrition...also google that if you dont know who that is. So yeah...while you sitting here listening to some "fascinating" youtube video...you can just think...I drive an 87 IROC-Z Camaro (fully restored), been in the military for 12 years and fuck shit up...o and yeah...own a badass 90 gallon saltwater fish tank...o...o and did coke and partied with Ray Liotta last night...lanes, lets talk about em...stay in yours...

    • @petsurvivalguide5628
      @petsurvivalguide5628 7 лет назад +4

      Whew did not expect a response like this. Look man I never talked down on actual good educational content for reefing. In this hobby especially its paramount and channels like BRS are a wealth of knowledge. as for you backstory and hyper aggressive attitude its whatever man. Thank you for your service if you did serve and I love camaros and even own one. Unlike you however im not going to trash on your videos its a little petty to do. From what i watched they seemed good and you came off knowledgeable. Otherwise good luck with your channel dude sorry you cant converse in a manner that is more normal and constructive! Still trying to find the damn lines for my lane tho...

    • @InappropriateReefer
      @InappropriateReefer  8 лет назад

      Thank you William, I have some carbon mixed in with the GFO, I think it should keep the GFO from clumping up and solidifying? I will double check on this, thanks for the heads up!

    • @cheseenlo
      @cheseenlo 8 лет назад +1

      OH well, if you have carbon mixed in there then you shouldn't tumble the GFO. cause GFO is harder than carbon and will grind your carbon up in no time. i use to do the mix now i just run my carbon in a bag and tumble my GFO. but its up to you, what ever is easier for you.

    Your "method" is completely nonsensical! I already use rodi so i can't start using it, I don't have any sand in my refugium to remove, and gfo? Total bs. This video helps no one trying to fight this.

    You just change to RODI water?
    Man you should go for chickens and cows instead of reefing.
    And you can call your self inapropiate farmer
