when syphoning out the dinos with that black tube what was pulling it out? I bought a maxijet 1200 and a vacum attachment that was recommended to work with it at the end of the hose but cant figure out how to do this. wont it pull the stuff into the motor and break it? It has an inlet and outlet i know but like I sad I it seems it will just go into the motor which is not intended for that. Please help. Need to get this out of my tank!
You are correct.. the small impeller is not strong enough for clumps of algae. use a transfer pump instead and step down to smaller & smaller end for more suction per sq inch. Plus less volume pulled since the stronger the pull, the faster you will drain your water, so have sw water made & to temp before you start. If you're just getting rid of water then any transfer will do (metal in/outlets & impeller) ..but if running back into a filter sock hung in your sump then look for one like Baur Brand with plastic fittings and a silicone/rubber impeller that has a viewing window to look for clogs And its self priming. Use different sized vinyl tubes and PVC pieces jammed into each other for different ends. It works fine..and even use a little stiff lockline pieces with wide angle end and it acts as an amazing scraper/Vac combo. Run flat and suctioned to glass not angled like a scraper normally would be.
And if you Are going to siphon ... the trick is to have it drop down as far as possible for equally increased pull with drop distance. (Down to a sink or bucket on lowest level or over the deck & down ) and even if pitching... fill multiple buckets while running through filter sock just in case you pull more out than you have made..you'll still have some clean water ready to go.
I just blacked out my tank and it’s nice and clean. My nutrients are 0 0 still .. should I start dosing waste away? I don’t have the money to also dose refresh but my tank is spot right now after the black out. I am battling hair algae and Dino
Can Waste-Away be used in a tank that has several species of macroalgae? I have marine aquarium with several species, plus a variety of snails, such as Nerites, Cerith, and Nassarius. I am concerned about this product's effect on the snails. There is quite a bit of detritus, and I really hate to tear the tank down. I have tried using a vortex diatom filter, although it tends to clog very quickly. Should I use a half dosage of Waste-Away? It is a 29 gallon BioCube, very heavily planted with macroalgae. Because I am using them, I do not use a protein skimmer on the tank. Thanks.
@@BulkReefSupply did you dose 65ml of refresh on day 1 day 3 and day 5 or did you break that 65 ml down to smaller portions and doses that every other day ?
Its pretty unlikely that it would work on diatoms as they are primarily photosynthetic. Often times the best solution to diatoms is a tank blackout. -Steven
Hey guys, great videos. I have two questions: is there a similar product to Waste Away? Since i don't have this in my country I'd love to know. Can this regiment be used to treat Amphidinium dinoflagellates? Cheers
You can use the same procedure for Dinoflagellates with a few modifications - 1) you need a complete black-out of the tank for the first 3 days. 2) during those first 3 days add Re-Fresh everyday. You can get a recipe card at www.marinedepot.com with the details.
Remember to read the instructions on the refresh. It WILL KILL snails and shrimp! It’s good stuff but if you have snails or shrimp DO NOT dose the full amount or you will kill your shrimp and snails. I’m not sure about the fresh water refresh as I only use it in my marine aquarium.
i wouldnt use this stuff, it actually caused an INCREASE in my cyano forcing me to do a full breakdown and clean of my tank. sorry dr tim but i have had nothign but headaches from your products from one and only causing nitrtes to jump off chart on day 2, to a mild to full on uncontrolled cyano outbreak, to fish not having any interest in the dr tims at-m-al fish food stuff, i have to recommend people NOT buy dr tims products. especially when you cannot reach dr tim easily and currently with covid excuses mailbox is ALWAYS full. my advice if you must do a fishless cycle use turbostart and some ammonium chloride or shrimp, if you are a person that cycles with fish , a pair of clowns and either seachem stability or turbostart are the way to go with seachem stability being my preferred option because it actually works, doesnt cause headaches and is far cheaper than turbostart.
Great to see you guys tested the product in a very real world established tank.
How long ago did you do these tests
What were the nutrient levels before and after
Thank you for the video
Vibrant looks like a better 1 step product .
Will using Re- Fresh and Waste Away work to get rid of green hair algae or just Cyano?
These additives should help with a variety algae's but, the best way to get rid of hair algae is through manual removal and a clean up crew.
@@BulkReefSupply thankyou
Thanks for sharing your results
Dr. Tim’s to the rescue 👍🏼

The suction is actually a siphon created from sucking on one side of the hose.

Do you know if this works on Diatoms?
Well explained thank you 😀👍🏴

I used Brightwell Microbacter 7 for 1 week and all cyanos gone.
That's cool does it even say it's for taking out cyno? I thought that was more geared towards setting up a new tank?
Would you recommend dosing this monthly
Wanna use in a nano evo 13.5 but don't have a skimmer
Should you refrigerate refresh or waste away after opening?
Is it ok to just use the waste away, to help prevent outbreaks?
Yes read the bottle
How much of a re fresh you dose on day 3 and 5? Thank you
Same as day one..normal doses per your aquarium size
So basically I'm supposed to dose 5ml a day of waste away ?
It would depend on the size of your aquarium.
@@BulkReefSupply I have a 75 gal with 20 gal sump

Long shot, but does the Waste-a-Way work on diatoms as well?
Its pretty unlikely that it would work on diatoms as they are primarily photosynthetic. Often times the best solution to diatoms is a tank blackout.

Yes it can but you need to incorporate black-out and examine your nutrient levels.
Why would t you just lower and raise your skimmer efficiency during the process? At least you’re keeping the tank aerated.
it boils over even on the lowest setting.

Only if you over dose... stick to the right amount and you won't have any issues
Très intéressant, merci beaucoup !!! 👍👍👍
Make sure you use an air stone while dosing. This does remove oxygen from the tank.
This process gave me dino
