I love gonioporas! When I get the budget for my dream 300 gallon reef tank, I will dedicate a portion of it just for a garden of gonies!!!!! Is nice to know more about what they need. Thanks man!
The tank has really grown out well Mok-yi. Your torches are my favorite. I’d like to see you pick up some different scolys as they would give a nice pop of color on the sand bed.
For me the shorter videos are great as I can usually spare 10 or so mins to watch them while having a break. I tend to save your longer videos with the intention of watching them later when I have more spare time, but that extra spare time rarely materialises ✌
LOL I totally get it. Sometimes I wonder if random podcast may also be good for people with more life responsibilities that would rather listen while running errands.
Awesome to hear! Curious which other types you have? I have mainly just seen the Space Invader and Rainbow, if there are other types I would love to know!
Wife has a pectinia and i seen the sweeper tentacles once during the day and they weren't too long, but good lord shined a flashlight at night and yea like 4 to 6 inches. so needless to say its on its own rock that doesn't touch any others lol
Hi ya, you've managed to keep a mixed reef happy and my softies are suffering in mine vs the other corals on polyp extension. What are your parameters for ca, mg, alk, po, no, temp and salinity these days? Hugely appreciated if you could respond and been watching you for years on your journey. ❤
I hand dose ~2/3 an eyedropper tube daily, if that makes sense. I do do a ICP test every few months to check; and the Manganese level has always been at the acceptable level doing it this way for me!
Goniopora pal , excellent coral , in my top 10 for sure, I think some Florida ricordia ahrokms ars a gr8 addition to any reef , easy to keep , and there isn’t much better for colour , I had a strain that was hot pink with neon blue and orange
Love gonis, my extension is not as intensive as yours maybe cause my clowns host in it, but they would be in heaven swimming in that pink and red one you have 😂 I also agree with the brown jelly on torches, I’ve had no luck fighting that and was always optimistic. It lead to further loses of heads or other torches that get affected. Will give KFC a try next time I encounter it
KFC worked for me for earlier case of brown jelly, but in my case after awhile it returned to the same heads, so I may not have been vigilant enough. Now adays I just cut and sacrifice.
@@InappropriateReefer They maybe expensive but they're gorgeous! Maybe you can try some of those small open brains? You can get them in Canada for around $100 CDN.
I find a low setting of red and green in the spectrum helps with Torch color, especially golds and Grails. Also a higher Alk, so I keep mine at 10 and seem to get great coloration.
Interesting, thank you for this info! I think I barely added any green spectrum, and my alk is around 7dkh. Tempted to experiment but not sure if it's worth pissing off the rest of the tank, lol.
My gold torches lacked color just like yours. Super healthy but color was very lacking. I found a minimum 200par of light and reducing phosphate below .10ppm basically made it color right up.
I do not currently use amino in this tank. I have tried Brightwell, AB+, Fuel in the past, each time I do it almost without fail a coral would RTN within a week. I did not believe it and kept trying different dosage and different brand, similar result eventually. I chalk it up to my system have enough of what it needs from my regular feeding & dosing already, anything extra was just feeding the bad bacteria.
Earlier this year I was away for about 3 weeks, my wife was happy to look after the tank whilst I was away. I got home and noticed a frag had been knock off its rock and was upside down on the sand bed. I righted it and there was a slither of goniapora left alive on the frag. I placed it in an out the way place and left it to its own devices, not holding out too much hope to be honest. Now its fully recovered much to my delight, I dose Mn and my Goniapora are better for it. Prior to dosing Mn I could not keep Goniapora alive.
Some of these corals are much hardier than we give them credit for when we don't mess with them, that's for sure! Glad to hear Manganese is the silver bullet for you as well!
I know every tank is different but how much manganese are you dosing and how often? I’ve got four on the smallish side and setting in 140 gallon tank. I dose manganese but very sparingly. Like 1 mm a week. Thanks
I do roughly 3/4 an eyedropper full (~.75ml) a day. I remember reading that Manganese precipitates out of the water pretty quickly, so I am pretty heavy handed when it comes to dosing it and just keeping an eye for run-away value on ICP tests.
Derasa seems quite hardy and can tolerate some swings and lower lighting; Crocea seems to love light, if Acros are happy in your tank I am sure clams would not be an issue!
Im a beginner but I just met someone with a tank full of great colored torches. He had easily 6 figures of coral. He does no water changes, only runs a protein skimmer, and only doses reef fusion 1 and 2. He told me to keep nitrates around 15 to 20. Im not sure how he gets by without water changes or trace elements. but I am a beginner I only hear people talk about how important trace elements can be.
Thanks for your feedback! I am not familiar with Fusion 1 and 2, but those are definitely working for him! More proof that there are more ways to have a successful tank!
You only ever hear about no water changes being successful in super mature reef systems. The corals are taking up nutrients as fast as the inhabitants of the tank produce them. All his trace elements are coming from the reef fusion 2 part he's dosing. This is the goal for a lot of reefers, but for the first several years, water changes are an absolute must. My very humble advice, as someone who just got to year 3 of a tank being set up, I'd stay on top of water changes. Back off slowly after your tank has years of establishment if no water changes is really your goal, and don't start dosing any elements until your corals start getting established enough to deplete them. It’s such an amazing hobby with a ton of great people!
@@thomascomber3241 I did not realize reef fusion has trace elements. I tried to look it up but I missed it somehow. So that clears that up for me, Thanks. I knew I could not replicate his system. He just has so much coral and his systems are at least 200 gallons compared to my Innovative marine 50 EXT. I will quit water changing someday to prevent NO3/PO4 from bottoming out but I think that will take a long time.
This is very interesting what you say regarding your torches with feeding, yours looked good. But man, even though there are no proven facts for why torches get brown jelly disease, DUDE I swear to God if I feed my torches directly with Red Sea AB+ and Reef roids etc, they get brown jelly just a day or so after!!!! So I avoid giving them any direct food whatsoever 🤣
Don’t take this the wrong way as everyone’s visual tastes are subjective. I feel your tank has lost an aesthetic look and feel. Instantly all you see are the green sps , clam and gonis in the front. You’ve crammed corals towards the back and from a colour and visual pov, it just doesn’t look balanced or aligned. I remember your previous tanks were absolutely stunning and even this tank 12 months back looked different. Maybe it is things like your torch just looking bland on one side, and frogspawn on the other side. I guess maybe it is a few corals just outgrown and dominating the focus. I’m sure if you take screenshots of your tank over the last 6 months you might see what I mean. But again, don’t see this as some complain as it is just my opinion and it’s simply because I like your tank dimensions and seen you with better tanks. Thinking about it, it might even be the scape now, just doesn’t feel uniform. Again, not a hater just throwing my thoughts as all I see on comments is what a wonderful tank, so maybe I’m the only one who thinks this.
I very much appreciate your constructive criticism. I definitely think the aesthetic of this tank could be improved and I am having a hard time making the tough decision to cut corals out, if that makes sense. The clutter definitely does not help and there are areas I would like to improve. I think you hit a few of the nails on their head and gave me some food for thought. Again, thanks for pointing them out and taking the time to share, I appreciate it! PS - I am sure some of the other viewers feel the same way, but they are just too nice or didn't want to waste time writing, lol.

I love the weeping willow coral you got from Bahama Lama, I have been looking for a frag for a long time, without any luck.

I really like the pectina your probably the reason I started collecting them great vid keep up the good work

You should add some Giant Bali Xenia from Marine Farmers. It doesn’t spread, it just grows upwards and forms a tower of pulsing polyps
That's really cool!
I have not heard of this coral, I googled and it looks very interesting, would love to get my hands on a frag!! Thanks for the lead.
Found some luckily at reefstock Chattanooga. It’s an awesome species of xenia. Cool stalk growth like original poster stated

Absolutely beautiful tank😍 whats the neon green coral?anemone? on the floor behind the giant clam? Reminds me of a rhodactis but GIANT
it could be the Neon Toadstool Leather? Common corals but really shine when given the right condition!
Oh damn thats actually a toadstool? Looks incredibly vivid in colour, amazing!
You should get some of those meaty corals like open brain, scollies, cynarina, lobo corals. I haven't seen you try any before.
Too expensive, lol! I did have a super cool baby Scolly from Bahamallama in the past, unfortunately lost it in a nutrient swing. ☹

Of course, it's the WWC Slimeball Anacropora
you should upgrade to a innovative marine tank, theyre having a sale right now!
Goniopora is my favorite
What brand of manganese do you like?
I have only used the Reef Moonshiner's and it works well; but my guess is that it's all the same except for potency!
Could you please provide a link for the manganese and what's your dosing?
