They said when USAIR merged with American - that 2 crappy airlines put together make 1 big crappy airline. We'll see what happens here. This could be a chance for Breeze and Avelo to gain market share if Frontier/Spirit fumbles the ball.
This is in effect a cost cutting exercise for the airlines and this will not result in a better experience for customers just a cost saving for the airlines. Savings on staff, pensions, etc and better discounts on plane purchase etc to name but a few.I doubt you will these passed onto a customer, more than likely to the shareholders it is a business.
Lol it won’t be a savings on staff. For every plane they order, depending on the kind of plane it is, you need a minimum of 2 pilots and a minimum amount of FAs. There’s no saving money there.
@@ntmn8444 The savings do not come with flight crew however new terms and conditions can create a saving. You do not require 2 boards of directors for example, you will not require as many ground crew if both airlines previously flew from the same airport. Maintenance staff can also be cut especially if they are using the same aircraft, office based headquarter staff can also be cut when the merger goes through .Flight crew only account for 25% of the airline i work for and even that is a high percentage unsure about these airlines.
@Long Haul by Simple Flying Hey I'm a Spirit Ramp Agent at FLL and for the record for everyone reading this everything he said is true. I just wanted to add one thing, that being that Spirit is still continuing their construction of their new Headquarters at Dania Beach Florida it will have all the training facilities from Ramp agents to Pilots alike at Spirit. I do think that it will keep its Spirit Logo on the building, however im not too sure. That could change. And another thing we Spirit Ramp agents will still be employed by the company and not be working via contract I.E Swissport or Triangle Services. Which is really reassuring to us because here at FLL is the only place Spirit hires in house ramp agents, every else is contract. And the Union we have further protects out job and so once this Merger Finalizes we'll keep our jobs and add more partners to our system and have even more job openings for everyone else because believe or not having like 300+ planes in a flee is alot so we'll definitely need the help.
I'm currently stuck in Las Vegas because Spirit has cancelled my return flight home two days in a row. I hope they don't cancel my flight home a 3rd day in a row. I need to get home. When I speak to them on the phone each day after getting the last minute flight cancellation, there seems to be no reason why my flights are cancelled, they don't seem to care, and there seems to be no penalty for them doing this repeatedly. I'm completely at their mercy. What timing this came up in my feed while I wait here to see if they will let me fly home tomorrow.
Spirit cancelled my flight to Cancun at the last minute and it left me scrambling to find a new ticket. Luckily I found another direct flight with Frontier. I will never consider Spirit again.
I flew frontier once with my brother and my dad and I enjoyed it. It wasn’t vey comfortable but. The ambiance was much less serious than American for example and they left the lights off most of the time
I flew Spirit round trip from Sacramento to Las Vegas. The flights themselves actually weren’t that bad. However, check in was really frustrating, it was so slow, even in Sacramento! Check in was so slow that it made me not wanna fly Spirit again.
You need to either blame the Ticket Agents or the City. Unless its a hub for either F9 or NK, third parties provide Above Wing services and sometimes it actually ISN'T the airline's fault per se.
Yup, this is why I say people are stupid. Wtf are they expecting when booking with a low cost carrier? It's in the damn name! If you want the amenities of a regular flight, don't be cheap
Agreed. I use to fly Frontier out of Denver all the time and they were great. Then the bankruptcy happened. They pretty much changed their entire way of doing business. I took one flight after and that was the last. It was definitely like taking a bus except there was no cord I could pull to get off.
Why so many bags? Whenever I fly on a spirit or frontier i only bring a backpack which is a personal item, so free. And IF i had to bring a bag, you can pay early and get a deep discount. I got priority boarding, a checked bag and a carryon for $54 on frontier.
Well, the merger of competitors is going to save consumers money is the tastiest form of PR bullshit... However, if they are both at the bottom of the consumer preference list, it can't get any worse than it already is, sooo good luck!
The one thing I missed on Frontier was a reclining seat, which, by the way, was paid for. Found it didn't recline, but didn't make waves and accepted it. Don't know If would fly with them again.
It's interesting that these two airlines a routinely listed as the most hated, yet the American demand for lower fares keep them both profitable and growing -- narrow seat pitch, thin seats, nearly zero amenities. Oddly hated yet in big demand. Somehow I don't think that $1.6B in savings will find its way into the pockets of passengers.
I like both airlines, I mean, I know what I'm paying for and make adjustments accordingly. When I fly within the US I like to use one of these airlines whenever possible, so now with options on where to fly is great!
I have flown Frontier in the past and have heard many horror stories about Spirit. I must say that I much preferred the product Frontier offered a few incarnations ago when they actually offered service. Now it's just no frills, sit there, shut up and we will probably get you there. My most recent Frontier experience was a trip from Denver to Cancun and back. we got there and back without issue and even were able to "upgrade" our seats to an empty row at the back of the plane. The flights themselves were fine, departures and arrivals were within reasonable times and our luggage got there in one piece, which was nice since the checked bag almost cost as much as the tickets! The seats weren't comfortable, but we got there and back safe. NO FRILLS For Sure! Frontier ultimately lost out since their scheduling isn't really ideal and they don't go to everywhere I may find that I will need to go...and merging with Spirit will not cure that, so United wins the battle for my business...the joys of living in a Hub city!
As far as the industry is concerned, this is worrisome. We should be biting our nails, the same way we did when ex) American merged US Airways or ex) United merged Continental. It ultimately reduced options for the American consumer and increased fares. The ULCCs are good to keep pressure on the legacy carriers, but let's also consider how gullible the occasional traveler can be when they see these prices. How great! It appears, but when it's all said and done your Spirit ticket cost as much as a Delta ticket. EXCEPT the seats are WAY more comfortable, they actually have good movies to hypnotize you during the journey and actually provide a good service (not to mention the premium experiences). There's a real worry these airlines will come in, take a considerable market share, and dumb down the American flying experience. For now, budget-conscious travelers have a much smarter choice in SW, because who travels without a suitcase really? And passengers with more specific or much broader requirements such as occasional international flying or stricter time constraints do better on Delta (where applicable). 'No frills' is more effective in a small continent like Europe with their 90-minute Ryan Air flights. It becomes counter-intuitive in a large place like the US. Again their existence is great for the travelers who simply cannot afford even a $99 SW sale fare and can somehow survive without a suitcase, and it's particularly great that they mostly try to serve underserved destinations. But this will only benefit stock-holders, not the consumer ultimately.
Seat comfort depends on where u sit and what ur willing to pay for. Pay for the cup of water up front or the bottle when u get on the plane. How much did u pay for that bag of peanuts or that cookie? Yes bags can cost a lot but the point is options and choices. Individualism is the name of the game here right?
You know, for the person who wants to bring 2 checked in bags, 2 carry ons, in addition to 2 personal items, yes, you’re right. Delta or any other airline would be cheaper. But what you fail to understand is that these carriers don’t cater to those individuals. They cater to people who want a cheap ticket and they don’t want frills. They’re fine with bringing a backpack with them and some snacks. That’s who they actually cater to. To those individuals, a ticket on Delta is obviously too expensive. Also, people will still have options. They will have allegiant, breeze, avelo. These are all up and coming airlines. There are definitely options for people.
I’ve flown each airline once before. It was last year when I flew from Denver to Las Vegas with frontier and Vegas to Denver with spirit. Nothing was wrong with frontier, the only issue I had with them was the seat was uncomfortable. Spirit had more comfortable seats. This wasn’t there fault, but there was turbulence almost the entire flight which at once point during the final approach caused one oxygen mask at a customers seat to accidentally deploy. The flight attendant had to go on the intercom and tell everyone to relax and calm down. Do I prefer other airlines, of course I do. If you don’t have rewards with any airline or are looking for a flight to get you from point A to B at the lowest cost, those two airlines are worth it.
Oh sigh, another merger. Considering how well they have worked for the consumer in the past, this is yet again another merger I'm not looking forward to. We need more competition, not less. However, the $1B price saving for consumer pr stunt is priceless! Mergers usually don't save the consumer money in the long run...
In the US there is a consideration that most of the general public is not aware of. The FAA charges a tax on the base airfare. By separating any components of air travel other than safety and basic transportation the consumer saves money both in the airfare going to the airline and the tax going to the FAA. The prices in the US will never get low like in the EU because of the security, airport and federal taxes in addition to the airfare including costs the airline itself has to pay for all of the above. The government collects more than the airline on many airfare tickets.
Frontier buys the only airline rated worse then them. Frontier has left me stranded in more airports, change/cancel flights on a whim, and here's your 79.00 back, now go rent a car for 300 to get home. At least the two airlines have next years last place liked airline locked up.
If everything goes right their ok, if your flying more than 2 hrs, wear anything larger than a XL, a height of over 5'10, staying for more than 5 days, have to check a bag more than 40lbs, have a stroller, have a lap baby, or back issues neither will be right for you.
I still don't get the argument. If I'm paying £7 to fly to Belgium from Manchester ok Ryanair, I'm literally expecting nothing but a plane that fly's. I'm happy with that 🤣
Because people in the US are entitled. They want Qatar-style first class for Ryanair prices. Get it? It’s quite absurd, but we don’t get the concept of “you get what you pay for”.
@@amkgskjsi3840 Southwest is all-737 while Spiritfrontier are combining their A320 family fleets. Then while they’re also all-737, I don’t think Ryanair is interested in the US market at all…
@@geoffreykigongo86 that's not entirely true. Transantltic narrowbody flights are coming to a rise and with that said depending on how successful it becomes, Ryanair has mentioned that they were possibly looking into transantltic flights with competing low prices. But, I don't think US customers will go for Ryanair's style of operations.
@@StallionFX1 ruclips.net/video/fTyUE162lrw/видео.html Wendover made a video about this a while ago. Since then Norwegian has ended transatlantic operations in addition to WOWair. But I think full-service carriers like TAP, Icelandair, and aer Lingus are still able to do their thing with narrowbody routes to places like New York and Boston.
I would never fly with spirit again in my life. Spirit lost my bag while I was on my trip to Jamaica and I was told by the customer service in Jamaica to buy clothes to wear while on my trip and spirit would reimburse me for my lost bag and I did only to be told to wait for a month for them to investigate my case. After waiting for a month I was told that they would not compensate for clothes I had to buy because my luggage wasn't delivered. Worst airline ever.
After the merged I found it cost more expensive and less flight. I don’t know how that serves more flights and better for customer? Serve costumers better and win win for the airplane not the customer because they can dictate the price to be higher to match with other big airline not competing with spirit like before. Look like I will fly with other delta and American since they are even higher price now .
The merger hasn’t gone through yet. Also, hello? Are you aware that gas prices are up? Have you been watching the news? There’s a war right now between Russia and Ukraine, and we’ve effectively banned Russian oil imports. Demand is up too. Flying is back to normal, and there are limited seats on board. All this will drive prices up.
Look at NK’s very aggressive push into Latin America and you know there are some very smart people at the helm - NK now flies to more places in Colombia than any other US airline, and their operations in Central America have seen the yield drop by more than 75% compared to 10 years ago. Let’s face it NK has the power to make money while UA, AA, CM, AV do not and this is radically changing the Latin market which was the last consistently profitable region for international anymore.
I predict $10 tickets with $250 fuel surcharges; 1st carry on $100; This merger is going to be another joke like deregulation of the airlines was years ago. OH..you have to pay for landing fees or you can't land?
Here in europe there are already 9 dollars tickets (even 6 dollars!!) plane tickets with Ryanair, even if you then spend 10 more for seat choice. And of course 9 dollars if you fly with a backpack only. I did a 2300nm total round trip (Rome Fiumicino-Tallin) for only 35 dollars a person. But I don't know if that would be possible there in the U.S.
@@raisedahell5165 Ryanair does so much loss-leading tho...for example, I could have flown from EDI (Edinburgh) to BVA (Paris) for just £5 one way (£10 return). The UK government itself taxes Ryanair £13 per passenger on that flight whilst the French government would tax 8.24EUR per passenger on the return flight. Ryanair wouldn't even make half of the taxes charged for that flight (nevermind airport charges, fuel, salaries ect.). I think the only reason why Ryanair (and European LCC in general, to an extent) is so cheap is that unlike other airlines, they're actually happy to loose money on the ticket, which yes, means for people who don't buy any additional services is loosing money for the airline, but most people do add additional services, which do keep in mind that things like priority (for that second, larger carry-on) or first checked bag is pretty much just revenue with zero-cost.
@@ying20000818 It depends on when you book the seat. Airlines raise the seat price the closer to the departure date you get. This would balance out overall
One of the downsides of flying on an ultra-low fare carrier like Frontier or Spirit isn't just being nickeled and dimed for everything except for the air you breathe - it's having to deal with passengers who are...(how do I put this kindly?)...uncultivated!? Lower prices = drawing in passengers who normally wouldn't be able to afford to fly otherwise. These passengers, who are sometimes assimilated with the people of Walmart, typically lack the social etiquette skills that most who have flown before possess. Sometimes the result of these people flying has ended with passengers swearing at each other or flight crew members, drunken brawls, etc..
Better prices, now you can set on another person's lap in even less room, and now offering no carry on luggage. Enjoy booking your first flight with us...then booking every other flight with anyone else. Thank you for choosing the worst airline
I've flown Frontier and they are horrible. They have an adversarial attitude towards passengers. I fly Delta. It costs a little more, but I have leg room, can recline my seat, am treated with respect and know that if my flight is cancelled, I will be taken care of. It's a no-brainer.

Lol they can’t go out of business because they have demand. While United, Delta, and American were running empty with barely anyone on board, Spirit and Frontier were full to the brim during this pandemic. On every single flight. And while some of those airlines furloughed their employees, Frontier and spirit didn’t.

Lol the flight attendant didn’t come get you. That was a gate agent.
Spirit is my favorite airline…..NYC to Fort Lauderdale $30!
Highest I pay is $70.
@Long Haul by Simple Flying
Hey I'm a Spirit Ramp Agent at FLL and for the record for everyone reading this everything he said is true.
The merger will benefit shareholders and upper management of the both companies.
This is pretty interesting. Will be interesting to see what the new brand will look like, with the two LCCs following a very similar model
I think they should keep the names as is, brand recognition is important.
New name: _Cheap-Ass Air_
I think the website Cheap-O Air might complain.
Sounds like an airline based out of Chicago or Atlanta
When are you guys creating Simple Flying Summarizes again?
I have flown Frontier once as it was my only option. I expected a Greyhound bus in the sky and it delivered.
I love flying Spirit, but I’ve heard nightmares about Frontier from my neighbor, they’ve had issues with Frontier EVERY time they’ve flown them
I flew frontier once with my brother and my dad and I enjoyed it.
I think it benefits all, by bringing two similar airlines together, and opening a slot for another entry to rise up.
I've taken Frontier a few times. It's literally like take a bus that flies. Gets you to your destination cheap, just don't expect anything more.
Agreed. I use to fly Frontier out of Denver all the time and they were great. Then the bankruptcy happened. They pretty much changed their entire way of doing business. I took one flight after and that was the last. It was definitely like taking a bus except there was no cord I could pull to get off.
'Airbus' literally.
Thanks for this.
Currently located on a spirit airliner at MCO watching this.
It’s that I’ve been denied water, 49 dollar ticket with a 99 dollar bag fee (Allegiant). Doesn’t have to be steak and recliners
Why so many bags? Whenever I fly on a spirit or frontier i only bring a backpack which is a personal item, so free. And IF i had to bring a bag, you can pay early and get a deep discount. I got priority boarding, a checked bag and a carryon for $54 on frontier.
@@TheWaynester101 this was with allegiant. It was one bag. Booking 3 months in advance isn't always an option
@@whiteandnerdytuba even the night before you can pay for the bag and get a discount. As long as you're not paying for it at the ticket booth
@@TheWaynester101 except I didn't pay at the airport, or a ticket booth. Now what?
Well, the merger of competitors is going to save consumers money is the tastiest form of PR bullshit... However, if they are both at the bottom of the consumer preference list, it can't get any worse than it already is, sooo good luck!
I wouldn't be surprised if they named the new airline "Indigo Airways."
There's always Aha, Avelo, and Breeze and maybe Midwest Express
Or Frontier Spirit if they're being lazy.
There is a much better airline that is called Indigo.
FrontSpi sounds like a cool name
Or just call them frontier spirit airlines like Cathay Dragon
Very nice and thank you for sharing.
As long as they keep HQ in Denver I’m cool with whatever name they choose.
They are basically the same airline already
The one thing I missed on Frontier was a reclining seat, which, by the way, was paid for. Found it didn't recline, but didn't make waves and accepted it. Don't know If would fly with them again.
Frontier has the reclining seat on the 1st 3 rows, (red tab just below the cushion)
Prayers for the Frontier Staff Members
I like both airlines, I mean, I know what I'm paying for and make adjustments accordingly. When I fly within the US I like to use one of these airlines whenever possible, so now with options on where to fly is great!
my dad works for frontier🙂🙂
What's the song in the background?
I'll stick with Southwest thank you very much!
Wondering the competition of ULCC in Asia Pacific region......🛫🤓
Some advice for Spirit and Frontier large campaign contributions always help. Just ask the big guy.
But you’ve never even flown on Spirit. Why don’t you try it first before you speak? Spirit>Frontier. Absolutely!
What do ppl expect for cheap fares, seriously, it's not an "experience," it's transportation!
When crap merges with crap, you don’t get roses.
Does this mean that livestock will be allowed onboard now ?
It’s gonna take years before actual changes are seen
Does any airline merger benefit passangeres?
@@ntmn8444 Ohhhhh I see! Thanks for letting me know
Well Maybe they can actually be able to BE on time
I’ve flown Frontier before but haven’t flown with Spirit
Ryanair should merge with spiritfrontier
Southwest should merge with Ryanairspiritfrontier

@@geoffreykigongo86 that's not entirely true. Transantltic narrowbody flights are coming to a rise and with that said depending on how successful it becomes, Ryanair has mentioned that they were possibly looking into transantltic flights with competing low prices. But I think full-service carriers like TAP, Icelandair, and aer Lingus are still able to do their thing with narrowbody routes to places like New York and Boston.
Southwest all the way
Check 7.32 - 7.40, you had switched the maps accidentally!
I've flown with Spirit. It was pleasant. I am into their very low fares.
Those poor employees
I prefer Allegiant Air. I feel they are a good airline.
What’s the new name?
Spirit is hardly budget anymore. Cost $40 more to fly to Myrtle Beach than it did on American.
New airline should be called "Spear", combing SPirit and frontIER
So Jetblue now wants to acquire Spirit Airlines. Who wins? JETBLUE OR FRONTIER?
It won't go through. Until all lawsuits are settled
There goes the competition. These ULCCs help keep American/Delta/United fares reasonable. Chances are the Feds won't allow this merger.
I hope they keep the name spirit i love it
Spirt airlines sky busses are ass. It's not worth the money over any 3 hour fights.
I’m pretty sure sharing customers is illegal . Sounds like a monopoly to me
Tell that to Delta and Northwest 😏
Or united and continental
Or US airways and American airlines
2 of the worst airlines in the United States merging into one massive junk-pile. If that’s not making you want pewk I don’t know what is. Honestly I think these 2 should have gone out of business long ago.
Lol they can’t go out of business because they have demand. While United, Delta, and American were running empty with barely anyone on board, Spirit and Frontier were full to the brim during this pandemic. On every single flight. And while some of those airlines furloughed their employees, Frontier and spirit didn’t.
I recently flew on JPATS and would take either one of these over them
Well at least the worst airline in the U.S will go away lol. Passengers hate Spirit for uncomfortable seats and expensive buy on board snacks, but pax fly Spirit because they don't have enough money to fly on the big 3 which are American, Delta, and United.
