    KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is the flag carrier of the Netherlands and is one of the carriers claiming to be the world’s oldest carrier. Its main rival for this title is British Airways. Formed in October 1919, KLM is the oldest airline in the world still operating under its original name, operating its first flight in 1920. On the other hand, British Airways’ claim stems from the fact that its predecessor Aircraft Transport and Travel Limited (AT&T), launched its first international scheduled air service in August 1919.

    KLM's A330 replacement is more 787-10's and the 777-200ER replacement is most likely going to be either the A350-900 or the 777-9, however the 777-300ER's are going to be replaced a few years after and of course those are bigger which would make it more likely that KLM is going for the A350-900 as replacement for the 777-200ER and the A350-1000 for the 777-300ER

    • @dirkvanderlaarse1878
      @dirkvanderlaarse1878 7 месяцев назад

      By the looks of it they'll go all airbus. It's far more logical to replace the 330's with 330 NEO's after the 737's replacement to 320's. A 320 pilot needs minimal training for being certified for a 330 NEO, and with more than 100 320's in their (combined) future fleet, it makes a lot more sense. And KLM had a lot of issues with new Boeing 787 from the South Carolina plant. The newest 330 NEO is available in a short flight configuration. Ideal for KLM with their home-base (Schiphol) that's currently declining their flight-slots.

      I find the A320 more comfortable than the 737 as well, because of slightly wider seats. However, the 787 is now my favorite plane to fly. The big windows, the better atmosphere, pressure and humidity, and its ability to get past hub and spoke. I hope they replace the 777's and A330's with 787's, especially since Boeing will be creating ER versions of the -9 and -10.

    So has the 777-8 program been officially scrapped yet? Because I think it would make a fitting replacement for not only KLM 772s but for BA and United as well given that BA has purchase options for 24 additional 777Xs and United has a huge -200 fleet to replace.

  • @davidsilver4339
    @davidsilver4339 Год назад +3

    Looking forward to flying on the KLM 787-10 from LAX to AMS in November. My guess is that they will stay with 787's as they replace the A330's and 777-200ER. Now that Boeing is looking to create ER models of the 787 it makes best sense. Less need for pilot training and more flexibility for the fleet.

    I flew with KLM once on the Schipol to Nairobi leg of Dublin to Mombasa back in May 2005. It was an older cabin layout with television screens over the aisles and radio content on the headphones as well. I went through the radio content about 3 times in the flight and the movie was some fantasy thing I didn't really care for. The problem with the new A320 order is that it still is unclear, even for personnel, whether KLM chose this themselves or got forced into a deal by Air France. Also KLM just need to use the current 737 fleet of 20 -700, 32 -800, 5 -900 to 22 MAX8, 34 MAX9 and 10 MAX-10. That was big enough. Or 16 MAX8, 28 MAX9 an 12-14 MAX10. ..At this particular moment it is difficult to tell which new wide body aircraft will be ordered by KLM to replace the aging Boeing 777-200 fleet, the Airbus A330-200 and Airbus A330-300 fleet..
    Options are the new Airbus A330-800 NEO and Airbus A330-900 NEO, as well new option purchase for Boeing 787-800, Boeing 787-900 and Boeing 787-1000.. Maybe later this year there will be more clear about their new option for the wide body fleet..
    Completely surprising is indeed the purchase by KLM of the Airbus A320 NEO as a middle long and short distance fleet carrier in the narrow body fleet, to comletely replace the aging Boeing 737 fleet.. Maybe also the longer A321 NEO will join the fleet as well, but this is uncertain at this point.. An option would be the new A220-300 NEO..
    For sure is, that it is a well known, a proven good aircraft that flies with many operators world wide..
    Problems with the Boeing 737-MAX has decided customers to look out for an optional replacement of their aging Boeing 737 fleet, so they had two best options.. That was the new Embreaer E195 E2 and the Airbus A320/A321 NEO.. In some cases even a mix of these two named aircraft in their narrow body fleet..
    The Embreaer E-series is produced with parts of Fokker..
    We will see what the KLM fleet will be look like with the joining of new purchased aircraft in the near future..!!

      ..I flew in my holidays in 1999 and 2000 with the Boeing 757-2K2 (B757-200), PH-TKD, of Transavia to Nikos Kazantzikas International Airport at Crete, Greece, from Maastricht Aachen Airport.. A relative large, wonderful, and well shaped aircraft to look at and to fly with.. It is the largest aircraft in the world in the narrow body class..
      In 2001 I flew with a Boeing 737-700 of Transavia to Crete, from Maastricht Aachen Airport with a stopover at Rotterdam, to pick up some more passengers..
      The fleet of four Boeing 757-200 went out of service of Transavia in 2004 and had being replaced with Boeing 737-800 at that time..
      The Boeing 757-2K2 was a very comfortable aircraft to fly with..
      The much smaller Boeing 737 is quite more bumpier during flights and more effective for winds..
      In 2002 I flew with my parents in a Boeing 777-200ER of Malaysian Airlines to Kuala Lumpur, with a stop over, and switched in Kuala Lumpur to an Airbus A330-200 for the last leg of our journey to Soekarno Hatta International Airport at Jakarta, Java, Indonesia..
      We went back from our holiday from Denpasar International Airport, Bali, Indonesia with a Boeing 737-700 of Malaysian Airlines and after a stopover in Kuala Lumpur International Airport, again with the Boeing 777-200ER..
      Excellent service on board and very comfortable flights..!!
      In 2007 I flew with a Boeing 777-300ER of Emirates from Düsseldorf International Airport to Soekarno Hatta International Airport at Jakarta, Indonesia, via Dubai and Colombia, Sri Lanka and with a last stop over in Singapore.. A long flight of twenty hours.. And also returned in the same way back through Düsseldorf International Airport..
      Nowdays, luckily, there are direct flights trough Jakarta..
      A very stabile and comfortable aircraft to fly with..
      Excellent service on board and definitely one of my favourite operators to fly with..!!

    As for the reason why KLM decided for Airbus narrowbodies. Besides the obvious reason, to have the same type as Air France operates, I think their might be another reason. I wouldn't be suprised if KLM would try to replace some of their triangle routes in the Caribbean with direct flights. AUA, BON, SXM and POS come to mind. With the A321XLR, at least SXM should be possible. AUA and BON are questionable due to range, I must admit. Even more interesting in the search for cost reduction would be the possibility to move those flights to Transavia.

    Wonder if KLM can order more 787-10 and put them on a 2-4-2 configuration( I need another airline obedient to the rules of comfort) to replace the 330-300. I think it is just the perfect place, it has the same range and little more capacity but is better in many ways, modern, and efficient. ( and I hope my comment doesn't hurt any Airbus fans) and yes, probably the 330-800neo or the 787-8 for their 330-200. While for the 777-200er, they can wait for Boeing to make the 787-10er or probably go for the 350-900 whit is currently the most indicate replacement for the 777-200.

      They will stay with the 787 and use the 787-10er to replace the 200's. Maybe at some point, they will go 777x. IT will be more efficient and cost effective especially in terms of pilot training. I think the 787 will be their main wide body....not worth bringing Airbus into that world, though I support the A320 move.

    • @mmm0404

      Why would they want to do that? The 787 manages to cover both the capabilities of the a350 and a330neo efficiently.
      the 787-9 replaces the a330 while the 787-10 replaces the 777-200's ,
      no need of increasing complexity by adding two different aircrafts like the 350/330neo while you could use a single aircraft like the 787 to efficiently serve their routes
