    I’m a Pilot at JetBlue and I gotta say it makes me happy to see the mostly positive reaction in the comments! I used to fly corporate before I worked at JetBlue and when I was only a customer for me JetBlue always had the best experience for the price. How are you guys paid? I always wondered if there was a big difference or not between SW or Delta. You seem quite happy, and thats awesome. I worked in aviation as a maintainer and I have to say, I was miserable, though always did the best, up to all standards, but left once I was responsible for 30 jets, doing daily sorties, and it was me in a four man team. Tire changes, oil, preflight, post flight, the oddball repair, refuel, defuel. It was just too much work with too few people and this was in the military, where supposedly we had more stringent standards as far as MX.
      Still, I love aviation, and miss it. Never became a pilot, which was my dream job due to health problems (the kind that barely allows me to walk and drive, but suck is life and did amazing things in my career, so no regerts as they say lol).
      Keep the blue side up.

    He missed a big thing on the rise. They had political help as it was very expensive to travel from upstate NY to downstate pre-2000. Most of what you flew were puddle jumpers at that. jetBlue connected Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse to downstate. One thing to keep in mind is when JetBlue launched and took up residence at JFK, they had a ready made terminal/hangar to operate from, which formerly belonged to Tower Air (which Morris shut down months before - yeah, I worked for Tower and then JetBlue at the beginning). That's a HUGE savings at an airport of that size and stature.

    • @DaWolf805
      @DaWolf805 4 месяца назад +25

      This is an extremely important, yet relatively unknown/unpublicized aspect of successfully starting an airline. One of the biggest costs is infrastructure, and being able to save on infrastructure by occupying hangars previously belonging to other airlines, bringing service to new airports where you can get politicians to pay for your setup costs, etc. are absolutely huge in making it through the first few years. This is what Breeze has failed at, more than anything else.

    • @Sacto1654
      @Sacto1654 4 месяца назад +5

      JetBlue also had the support from New York Senator Charles "Chuck" Schumer, too. But at the time, JetBlue pretty much had much of the domestic traffic out of JFK to itself because much of the domestic traffic went through LaGuardia (LGA), a really unloved airport at the time.
      Today, JetBlue flies out of the former TWA terminal at JFK, which has been modernized specifically to accommodate the airline, but kept the original terminal building (which is a historic landmark).

JetBlue’s effect on new cities pales in comparison to what Southwest does. Do some research. This video annoyed me from start to finish as it wasn’t well researched nor detailed as it should have been. David worked at Southwest! He tried to get company brass in Dallas to implement assigned seating. Southwest showed him the door along with his non-compete agreement. And, why did you bring up the fact David is a member of the LDS faith. It has ZERO to do with this business profile. God. This was a horrible pedantic video.

    I was a fan of Jet Blue. Their partnership with AA has served me well with the extra considerations with their parner. That said, their systems are broken. I was coming home internationally for a family emergency at the last minute. I was stuck at JFK for two days. They could not tell me where my bags were, they could not accommodate me on another route home with any other carriers including their partners. I had to rent a car and drive 11 hours to my home airport. Thankfully, my bags were transferred and, I was able to retrieve them later. But i was unable to speak to my late grandmother one last time..

    Before you even got to it, as a NYer I was like "one of the biggest things was that they flew out of JFK". Most of the other budget carriers you've covered in the past (like Southwest) only fly out of LGA or other NY-area airports that aren't JFK. From where I grew up it was infinitely easier to get to JFK, so it never made sense to try to get to LGA to fly the other carriers (that sound like they're way worse anyway), so I developed a positive association with them.

    A lot of history but not much on the current state of JetBlue.
    If the Spirit-JetBlue merger goes through (I hope it does), it is overall better for the US Airline industry. The US needs a mid-tier brand between the Legacy 3 (Delta, American, United) and the low-cost fliers (Southwest, Frontier, Allegiant, et al). That's JetBlue. The oddity which Company Man doesn't mention, JetBlue partnered with Hawaiian as a transfer partner (the reason Hawaiian got into the Logan to begin with; to make the longest non-stop US domestic route from Boston to Honolulu); but has since been bought out by Alaskan.

They were so ahead of everyone else with the individual monitors on the back of the seat in front of you. You had choices rather than put up with a video projected in the cabin. They also were the first airline i was on that had the touch screens. We always had good experiences, only ever having one issue, and that was a symptom of circumstance more than just them messing up. I actually had to rewind the video to see what year that snowstorm you were talking about was. Our only bad experience was when flying to Hawaii in February 2014, we got to the Newark (spelling? But in New Jersey) airport, got on our plane, and then were stuck in it for 3 hours waiting for a chance to take off in a snow storm. We were one of a few planes to actually take off that day, and had another 12 hours of flying, in addition to the 3 hours of waiting. They were out of most meals by the time meal time came. But again, that was a storm that came in with little warning and much worse than expected. Not necessarily on them.

    this video is very interesting to me as a current jetblue crew member and a long time fan. my first ever flight was on a jetblue flight and i remember being amazing that i could watch tv on a plane and just remember the whole experience and how they waited for my mother, brother and i past the doors closing time because we were a late check in. even when i worked for my last airline, i always felt love for jetblue and tried to non-rev on them any chance i got. now that i am here and have even gotten a promotion, i cannot say how happy i am to represent jetblue everyday and im forever grateful to david neelemen!
    p.s. our current CEO robin hayes is also a really nice guy and i’ve spoken to him personally as he was at our orientation for training and answered our questions for about 2 hours!

    I grew up on on long island as a 90s kid and when JetBlue came on the scene, it was a huge deal. My friends and family all preferred to fly them over every other airline whenever possible. I remember the ice storm fiasco and thinking how far they have fallen...having become just another trash airline. I've since moved away from NY so it's good to see they rebounded.

    I have flown on Jetblue more often than I can recall and I prefer them to other carriers. They have all of the same problems any airline has with weather and maintenance but generally the people are cool and the product if fine. They are acquiring the new Airbus 220s (formerly the Canadair C series jets) and retiring the E-190s.

    My first time flying as an adult, alone, was jetBlue in 2015. Even out on the west coast it was fantastic. As a tech savvy type, setting up a membership, booking, and checking in online is a breeze. The streamlined process with constant updates on my flight through text very much helped since I can't see well. Not to mention the instant vouchers available. A snowstorm delayed one flight i had become onw of their planes got dented from the wind. They made sure to get a whole new plane up from California and my next flight a year later was free. That commitment to safety over speed keeps me using them when available.

    I can't wait for them to replace their Embraer 190s with Airbus A220s - much as I liked the 2x2 seating, especially when I would fly solo, they definitely are feeling worn (especially the IFE - last time I went on their A320s, OTOH, the refresh for their 320s was implemented in the aircraft I was on and it was really nice - and I assume their 220s are just as nice.)
    (That, and I really want to hear for myself - as opposed to through headphones watching a video - how quiet the A220 is compared to other aircraft during takeoff!)

Lately however I’ve found that they’re no longer the most economical choice on some of these routes. They’re morphing into a legacy carrier.

    Most airlines pickpocket you with so many fees while decreasing on customer service and travel comforts. I usually fly Southwest as soon as far they do not fee you on luggage and snacks. They like others have long layovers, uncomfortable seats, sardine seating, but I like not paying rising fees for basic travel needs. I will look into Jet Blue to see their fees, travel availability and service. Edit: I looked up the baggage allowance and they do charge high fees! Who makes travel plans without needing to take clothes with them!! The fees are ridiculous. Plus to travel where I usually go, it will take over nine hours with a layover, a trip that would take about 4 hours if direct. Too bad about baggage fees!

    JetBlue’s automated system and excellent customer service led to a situation where my mother and I kept driving between Newark, LaGuardia, and JFK, constantly chasing a flight that was continually cancelled and rerouted just before we got to the airport. Finally we just parked ourselves at LaGuardia, and when the first customer service person just WALKED AWAY from us, it took a Port Authority policeman to find a supervisor and get them to get mom onto a plane. To Tampa. When her car was in Sarasota.
    And when she got to Tampa, she found that the guy in New York who promised to arrange ground transportation so she could get her car… hadn’t.

    As a New Yorker who travels to Florida a lot I often fly JetBlue between those destinations and I usually have had good experiences with them. My only complaints about them are they're ranked near the bottom for on time performance and when they say delayed they're delayed by A LOT. I know I had that experience flying from LGA to MCO one time we were delayed by almost 7 HOURS (OUNCH!) because of bad weather where the plane was coming from. Should've given us another plane which kinda sucked. Also when other airlines started charging for bags JetBlue would give passengers one free checked bag which is better than nothing but sadly they don't do that anymore and the legroom isn't as good as it used to since they added two more rows to their fleet. They haven't been the same since Neeleman and Barger left and when Hayes took over but overall they're still not a bad airline (my second favorite behind Delta). Another thing you forgot to mention what made JetBlue successful is they were way ahead of their time having free live TV at every seat which most airlines didn't have at the time and soon after most airlines followed.

    • @AxisXY
      @AxisXY 4 месяца назад +1

      I worked for JetBlue for ten years. You are correct that they are ranked low for on-time performance. HOWEVER... There is a good reason for this. The majority of their flights are from JFK and BOS, both airports which are very busy and have constant delays regardless of airline. Because the majority of their flights being from those two airports, it brings their overall on-time performance numbers down. This is not something JetBlue has much control over, and why these types of rankings do not often tell the full story.

    • @kevingreen5793
      @kevingreen5793 4 месяца назад

      @@AxisXY I guess you have a point. Since a lot of their flights are out of JFK which has very busy airspace since it’s close to LGA and EWR and also because most of their flights are out of the northeast which can get severe weather sometimes.

I fly southwest alot, however, jet blue is by far the best I've flown. The free FAST wifi is amazing. And they don't block video streaming or anything. I was impressed. And the red-eye package you get with them when boarding. Blanket, ear phones, eye cover, ear plugs, pillow. Made it great

    I flew United, Delta, Alaska, Air Canada and Jetblue in 2023. Among all flights the Jetblue flights are the best one I had last year. Comfortable seats, pantry for snacks, new free PTV and free high speed wifi.
    Besides, the price I spent on the Jetblue flight is at least $200 less than my collegue who flew the same route on the same date.
    The only part they need to really work on is the ontime performance.
