  • This is job site footage of me and my boss spraying out MDF doors on this new construction spec home.
    We are spraying the 2nd coat of Kelly Moore Dura-poxy Satin, and setting the doors in a stack against the wall just out of camera view.
    I came up with this idea of setting up the doors this way with blocks on top. I like this method because you can lean a door against the wall with the block touching the wall. Then you can stack as many doors as you want on top of that with nothing but the blocks touching each other.
    The walls and ceiling and trim work has already been painted in this home, and everything in this room has been covered with plastic to keep it all clean.
    We spray painted all the trim in this house, 2 coats, the day before.
    If you have any questions or are trying to understand the system or the situation that we are working in, please feel free to ask without being rude. We are experienced professional painters and try different methods for different jobs through the years.
    There are many ways to accomplish spray painting doors. I am simply sharing this new technique with anybody who is interested. If you're not interested, then don't be rude to all of the folks enjoying the video.
    I used to set doors up in the middle of room to spray them, but on jobs with limited space this works well. You also don't have to clean as large of an area, and clean the floor between coats because you can put a new piece of floor paper down near the wall.
    Please use all Personal Protective Equipment while doing any renovation or construction work to avoid injury and occupational exposure to any hazards. Examples of PPE are respirator, hearing protection, eye protection, work boots, gloves and others.
    Please completely read and understand how to operate your spray equipment safely and do not use if safety guards are removed or if equipment is faulty. Airless spray paint can penetrate the skin (paint injection) if close contact is made to the pressurized spray. This can lead to serious injury, amputation, and possibly death.
    XC painter shall not be held accountable for any individual's or company's actions during any painting, renovating or construction practices.
    Any individual engaging in renovation and construction tasks must be trained on the risks of injury and occupational health hazards, and how to mitigate them.
    Any individual or company engaging in renovation and construction tasks will be held liable for their own actions and inspections and upkeep of their equipment.

    It’s a great and simple system, I used to spray all the doors in one room however I was spraying oil based gloss and it would get to a bit too much to stay in the room with overspray and fumes, but I’m still always looking for a better simple and efficient way to spray doors. Great work mat!

      Artie6937 Would a fan pulling air out of the room help in your situations? We had a fan in the hallway the second time we did this.

    This was amazing! Thank you so much for sharing. I wanted to know what is your preferred order of spraying ? Is it Doors & Trim, then Walls and finally Ceiling ?
    Thanks again 🙏🏼

    I’ll give this technique a try. We usually drive rails into the top and set them up in a zigzagging line

    Thanks for video. Do you ever do the doors when they are hanging? And one more: if you need to sand or prep doors are those sanded in place? Thanks

      That's called a "spray sock". Inexpensive and lightweight (mostly)

    Nice job. I just sprayed 15 doors the other day in the master bedroom in a condo. I too lean them against the wall . Only I lean the one corner and angle the door , or if I have more room I screw a paintsick in top of door and lean against wall . I like your system in this video ! What size tip are you using ? I used a .211 and shot Superpaint semigloss through mine.

      Nice ! Im going to have to get up with the times and get me a racx guard so I can start using the ff tips ! Right now I have an old Titan 440i and a brand new impact 400 . I like the graco contractor 2 gun better than the new RX80 .

    I've used the KM DuraPoxy brushing but haven't sprayed it yet. Are you not crossing it out due to the product sagging easily or is that just your method? I usually cross everything out.

    • @XCPainter
      @XCPainter  5 лет назад +1

      Monarchski Hi, I just don't do the crosshatch technique while spraying. I've seen people do it on ceilings and a couple people do it on doors. I find if it wasn't sprayed even on the first pass, changing directions and spraying again doesn't really make it right. I just try to get it even the first time.

    Seems like an awesome technique and quicker than standing them up . But I'm wondering about you moving them cause you are touching wet paint.

    • @XCPainter
      @XCPainter  5 лет назад

      Thanks for the support. These doors are super light weight. We are able to move them without getting our fingers innthe paint. One finger at the top hinge mortise works, bur I did start adding an 8 penny nail in the top mortise to make carrying them even easier.

    Why not do both sides at once? If the block at the top is long enough you can spin the door and do the other side too, right?

    • @KevinNichols222
      @KevinNichols222 6 лет назад +1

      Too hard to move with both sides painted.

    • @XCPainter
      @XCPainter  6 лет назад

      We are flipping them and spraying both sides. Is that what you mean? My boss just chose to back away from the wall to flip the doors and also it wasn't blocking the camera view. I can flip them around pretty close to where they're being sprayed too.

    Aren't those stack of doors in camera view being dusted? I don't see how they are not.

    • @XCPainter
      @XCPainter  5 лет назад

      Ted Rinshed thanks for asking. No they aren't getting dusted but they are unpainted anyways. I would say fallout is not an issue on the vertical surfaces. If it were shelving or banister it would be different.

    • @Tedrins
      @Tedrins 5 лет назад +1

      @@XCPainter I used this system and the doors got dusted on the other side of the room when drying. The bedroom was about 14'x14'
      Next time I'll Hang some poly from the ceiling to cut the room in half. This is why you dry cabinet doors, for instance, in another room. The spray room will eventually be filled with dust in the air and it eventually has to settle. Or maybe place a box fan near the door entrance and blow it (on low setting ) towards the spray area.

    • @XCPainter
      @XCPainter  5 лет назад +1

      @@Tedrins yep, I can't argue against the air getting full of dust. A box fan or exhaust fan is very very helpful. When we set doors up in the middle of a big room, it's the same scenario though.
