  • Have you ever had a paint run happen on a nice project and you need to sand it away the easiest way and without scratching the fine finish???
    This tutorial shows how I fix an average size paint run that happened on one of my interior projects.
    If you dry sand Satin, Semi-gloss or Gloss trim paint, the sanding scratches will usually show up when you repaint the area.
    Wet sanding diminishes that chance of leaving marks behind and it melts away waterborne paints which usually don't sand well.
    The paint used in this situation was Kelly Moore's Dura-poxy Satin sheen with a sprayed finish.
    I show what items I use and fix it completely and re-spray the trim where the run was.
    Thank you for watching and for your support!!
    I realize others may do things completely different, and I'm open to learn new ways. This is just how I am accomplishing the task in that situation. Happy Painting, Enjoy!

    XC, another great video tip. I had been dry sanding my runs only had to use a little bit of filler to repair the tear outs. Your tried-and-true wet method will work much better thanks. Beautiful job on that spray Mill pack. By the way. I can appreciate how much spraying 7 or 8 gallons of trim paint is.

    Wow looks fantastic, a lot of woodwork in that house, I tried spraying some water based alkyd gloss enamel with my air assisted airless for a test before I try it on a job, I’m having trouble making it look good, if I have the flat it looks great when it’s wet but when is dry looks terrible any pointers? I have only really spray solvent base on woodwork..

    For bookcases and built ins with deep boxes how do you deal with dry spray / bounce back I have some built ins coming up and super nervous. Is the trick to go fast enough so every thing stays wet? Great job by the way

    • @XCPainter
      @XCPainter  5 лет назад

      Thanks, I would start at the inside bottom cubby of built ins. Ive started at top and learned from getting a slightly rough finish (wet sanded out and resprayed). Have you seen my video of me spraying built-ins? I have a good video showing a neat way I sprayed some that were 2 ft deep.

    Hey buddy another class spraying , love your videos man , you haven't released one in awhile , quick question might be able to help me , have you ever spray finished walls ?? would you use the graco fine finish tip if so ? or just a regular blue tip ? cause i have the idea like spraying woodwork get a flawless finish use fine finish tips for the walls , but every time i go do it it keeps blocking in my gun , but when i put back the blue tips it sprays fine any idea friend ???

    • @XCPainter
      @XCPainter  4 года назад +1

      I spray walls many times. You can use fine finish tips if you strain your paint, check/clean pump filter, and keep a clean 100 mesh filter in the spraygun. Graco 100 are teal, titan 100 mesh are yellow.

    • @XCPainter
      @XCPainter  4 года назад +1

      If your spray set up and application is a fine finish quality, the results will still be determined by the condition and smoothness of the substrate, or if it's sealed evenly well before finish coats of paint.

    Good Video...never heard of Kelley Moore here in Massachusetts. What else would you have used? I know you use a lot of BM

    • @XCPainter
      @XCPainter  5 лет назад

      Could have used any paint, but that particular job called for performance paint at a affordable price ($35 instead of $55 a gallon).

    • @georgeEPC

      what BM would you have chosen?

    • @XCPainter
      @XCPainter  5 лет назад

      @@georgeEPC there's 3 choices on the waterborne category that come to mind. I go with what product fits the clients needs or the scope of the work. Advance, Cabinet Coat, or Scuff-X. Each has their own characteristics and appeal to different clients. Advance shows everything and has long dry time of course. Scuff X has been getting rave reviews!!

    • @georgeEPC

      Advance shows everything?? What do you mean?? Thought you might have suggested Regal

    • @XCPainter
      @XCPainter  5 лет назад

      @@georgeEPC I mean yeah advance will be a very smooth finish but any imperfection or scratches can show. It still is great but its just shiney.

    Beautiful job man ! 👍🏻
    So how exactly do you make those nail holes disappear in the mdf ? ?
    What I do is , I first fill them with painters puddy, sand puddy , apply red bondo, primer and finally go through and check red bondo once again. Then I do two coats of finish paint . And (well yea obviously sand bondo and primer as well)

    • @XCPainter
      @XCPainter  5 лет назад

      Thank you very much. For this job the steps were set nails,scrape holes first, vacuum brush trim, fill with Elmers wood filler, then orbital sand filler and swolen mdf around holes, and get the factory primer smooth. Then clean and 2nd fill with Crawford's. Hand sand with fine sponge, clean caulk, mask, prime, light sand, clean, spray 2 top coats 1 day apart.
