How to Lose Weight as a Vegan | Heart to Heart ❤️

  • One of the most common assumptions about the vegan lifestyle is that a strict plant-based diet will lead to easy weight loss. Lots of people become vegan for this reason alone. I get it. When I first became interested in eating "healthy" it was because I was dealing with body image issues, and wanted to 1) lose weight, and 2) not feel guilty after I ate.
But this video is about more than what you should eat to lose weight--though I'll talk about that. It's about the fact that veganism isn't a diet or an quick fix, but an incredibly rewarding lifestyle. Eating a whole food vegan diet will help you achieve your optimal weight, but it will also help you be your healthiest, most vibrant self.
By eating a whole food vegan diet (for me that includes 80% unprocessed wholesome foods, and 20% refined vegan items), I have been able to achieve and effortlessly maintain my natural weight/size while keeping up a very moderate exercise routine, and just staying active by walking, commuting on my bike, and practicing yoga (rarely vigorous) each day. Whatever your journey to an optimal weight, energy, and vibrancy, I believe that you can find it by adopting a vegan lifestyle. Remember, being thin doesn't mean you're healthy or happy; and being overweight does not mean you're unhealthy or unhappy.
Health, happiness, and satisfaction come from your life choices, not from your plate, the scale, or the size on your clothing.
Going vegan is so much more than a diet. It's a way to lower your risk of America's top killers (preventable disease!), eat amazingly delicious food, increase your energy levels, have fun in the kitchen, and MOST IMPORTANTLY save animals and walk more gently on the planet :)

I spent a lot of my adolescence binging and starving myself. When I switched to a plant-based, predominately whole foods diet, my entire relationship with food changed for the better. I don't ever feel fat, and I don't ever feel guilty for eating. It's pretty amazing.

Sooo I have several symptoms of BED and bulimia and I’m trying not to develop that any further. Problem is, if I’m not starving myself, I’m literally about to off myself. Soooo it’s hard to choose what to do. So imma try veganism while I get help for my depression

    • @Askalott
      @Askalott 2 года назад

@@kiannacat9330 I'm sorry to hear that. I've been there. You are strong and you can get through this. My best advice would be to go slow and don't put too much pressure on yourself. I eased into veganism over the course of about a year while simultaneously working on mental health. Each journey seemed to reinforce the other. You might find that as you incorporate better foods, your mental health will start to improve as well. But no need to change overnight. Lasting change takes time. Baby steps. Good luck and take care.

This video is a must watch for those who think veganism is a diet you go on to get skinny. Thank you for mentioning that you can be vegan and gain weight...potato chips and Oreos are not health food. Whole foods/plant based is the way to go. Be it over night or in baby steps. Just don't stop stepping. Repetitive actions become habits. Make your actions healthy ones. You will get there!

When you´re eating "clean" its incredibly easy to lose weight on a vegan diet. I have friends at the gym who starve themselves on a keto diet or a standart bodybuilding weightloss diet where they only eat meat and some rice and here I am losing weight much faster while maintaining energy and muscle mass on 450gram+ of carbs per day

I love her philosophy. I have lost 100 pounds over the past two years following a whole food plant based diet. When I decided to lose the weight I turned to a vegan diet as a way of setting some food parameters for me. During my journey I learned how to cook delicious meals that fully nourished me and my husband. It took time, effort and a change of thinking. But as I say...change is NOT hard when you are committed to it. Taking the time to eat well is time well spent. This video is full of truth! I just love this woman!

Wow, this video really spoke to me. I went vegan in Jan due to health places, some time between lunch and dinner one day. I've lost 30lbs so far, but as I've gone on this journey, it's become life changing. And less about the weight loss etc and has become about cruelty and the environment. I still have a ways to go (60ish lbs), but it's no longer the thing that controls me. I'll be vegan the rest of my life, regardless of weight loss. Thank you!!

    • @Paras98895
      @Paras98895 7 лет назад +3

I had lots of vegan junk food at first and didn't feel bad. It wasn't until 3-4 months in that I focused more on the quality of food. I also followed lots of vegan YT'rs for inspiring recipes - sweetpotatosoul, laurentoyota/hotforfood, edgyveg, highcarbhannah. Sweetpotatosoul has a mac and cheese using sweet potatoes that was amazing. Also, her recent vid for sweet potato enchiladas also awesome. Lastly, I really connected what I was eating to harm to the animals. I mean once it clicked, it clicked. I stopped seeing the difference between my rescue dachshund and a cow. That stuff just stopped looking like food. Also, dairy was probably the hardest - I used to be a string cheese and yogurt girl, but as a mom, once I realized how our society treats dairy cows (they're literally raped and then have their calves taken away immediately), I didn't really crave that anymore, it makes me a little sick from a compassionate creature perspective. Also, even 90% vegan is better than not even trying. So if you "slip" up, do better with your next meal. I think viligent veganism turns alot of people away from the lifestyle. My husband is plant based 95% of the time - but occasionally he has meat (about 1x/month). That's not for me, but for him it works. And at the end of the day, hundreds of animals have not been eaten because of his reduced intake. And his cholesterol has still dropped. Hope that helps!

if you keep caving id suggest going vegetarian first and then slowly transitioning. And if you mess up one meal don't worry about it! You can always recover at the next meal :)

Find vegan foods that satisfy the cravings. Ex. if you crave meat, try mushrooms made with soy sauce, miso, nutritional yeast, tomato paste, or other umami flavors. Same with desserts and sweets, find vegan replacements :)

Omg. This is from 2016! This girl is way ahead of so many people. She says it all.. it is simple! Just... not at first. She has had the exact same journey as me and reached the same conclusions. There is a lot of money to be made by “diets” and from “experts”, people looking everywhere when they really need to look and really listen to what’s inside. She is so fluent in explaining this she has obviously taken time to look inside herself, to accept herself, to change her eating for the good of others and herself - I’m still learning to cook and for me the hardest commitment is finding the time.... but that’s ok... I’m not killing my self about it... I’m certain it will come... I’m learning .... I’m learning how the time will come! And... she is just sooooooo beautiful too.... those eyes! That smile!
So many complex things she simplifies .... wish she could find a solution for Brexit! (Not an invitation to discuss Brexit! Just she is sooooooo good at simplifying complex things!).

Hi, Jenné. I just subscribed to your channel. I've struggled with my weight my whole life and, after listening to so much advice and going through so many diets and so on, I have to say that your experience and shared inspiration on weight loss is the BEST I've ever heard! You understand that from hearing, "Don't eat this. Eat that," that before we can find balance, we have to first recognize that there's always SO much gray area to deal with, which involves encompassing working the whole self. I've heard similar commentary, but yours has more clarity. Thank you so much for this! I know it's already helping me.:)

I see now that I have to cut way back in the beyond meat (which I’ve been eating almost every day); and processed vegan snacks. I was so confused and frustrated planning on cutting all grains, and other things from my diet. Now I’m calmer and have a better way to go about losing the weight. I appreciate you honey 💗🌸

Great video! What I love about this journey (for some reason I'm afraid to call myself vegan just yet) is that even tho it started out being about weight loss, it's become so much more. I do feel happier and nourished and whole like u described!
It is comforting to hear someone who has been doing this for a long time, give me permission to be patient with myself and to know I don't have to have it all figured out overnight :) Thank you!

This is the thing I've ever watched that motivates me to be plant-based. I've read books and articles and follow others. But this is so important!! I have a lot of body image issues...and eating meat exacerbates them. But everyone around me eats meat, and sometimes I just feel it isn't worth it / too hard. It keeps this cycle of feeling bad about my body and putting bad stuff in it. But I want to feel good. I want to stop eating animals that I don't need in my body-and I dont want to feel guilty for simply feeding myself. This was really inspiring!!

It's sad that so many people, like most people, are basically forced to unlearn the healthy eating of early childhood, and then unlearn the unlearning. Especially for women, but definitely also all other genders, this ends up being a decision that has to be consciously made every day, and especially early on that battle can be HARD. But I truly believe, like you said, that the more you learn your body again, and the more you go for whole foods, the more empowered and healthy you will feel until you spend very little time focusing on the flaws of your body and just live most of your life without all that bullshit. For me, the hardest part of eating healthy was breaking my sugar habit; I never thought I could do it, but I knew it was the one remaining obstacle to better health for me and once I got to a point where I was approaching it from a place of loving myself, not hating myself, it was actually pretty easy. Anyway thanks for this video, I'm sure I'm not the only one who hardcore relates to it :)

I'm a healthy fat vegan and I'm happy with my body. I think the obsession with weight is so destructive. I felt bigger when I was smaller than I do now. But I also don't ever get sick anymore and cut my medication off. From immunotherapy treatments to just half a small pill for my suicidal depression.

Leticia Lua yes! Thank you! There is this falacy in the vegan community that if you eat healthy vegan foods you can't be chubby. Trust me! I can! Haha. With that said, I am the healthiest eater I know, am active, have great BP, low heart rate, don't get sick, great skin, hair, and nails, etc.

Thank you for posting this! I just shared with a dear friend the struggle I am having transitioning to veganism while my family is still indulging in the standard American diet. I thought I was eating a very healthy diet, eating 4-6 times a day full of protein but over time animal protein and animal products started taking a negative toll on my body. Unbearable bloating for 10+ hours...so I dropped right into it. As my body is transitioning I find that I am just happier. I wake up smiling even when I sleep less hours. I'm hoping that one day my family will join me but until then, you and other you tubers have been the shoulders I've needed to get through this! Two weeks down and a lifetime to go! :)

Thank you for this. This was a reminder to keep building healthy habits and these habits don't come overnight. I have B.E.D (Binge Eating Disorder) and I had to stop being a vegan after 5 years because it was too overwhelming. I started cold turkey and idk the pressure and the amount of information of what's the right way of eating, just got to me. I do want to be a plant based goddess again but I want to build the healthy habits that I didn't have the first time around. I would say that I eat 70% vegan because some things you can't unlearn. But I'm teaching myself to be love my body and myself as is and be consistent in these healthy habits such as mindful eating and eating around the same times. When I first became a vegan, I did do it for weight loss and health but now I get the animal aspect and try to be vegan in other parts of my life like clothes and beauty products. I'm not quite there yet but I know I will get there.

Hi! I really loved this video because you are so relaxing to watch. I really love how this was a heart to heart with your viewers and all the good vibes you were sending out. Made me feel happy!
Also, you have such a lovely voice too which I could listen to all day. :)
Though, if you don't mind, I could use a few more tips/pointers!
I've been vegan for almost 1.5 years now, but four months ago I found that I had gained almost 30 pounds since going vegan (I was only 100 lbs when I first went vegan and only 15).
I completely panicked and I began to do what I could to lose the weight I had gained. I cut my calories so I would only eat about 1,000 per day, 1,350 being the max. Since then I also am now exercising every single day of the week for about 1.5 hours a day. I have a really terrible mindset towards my body to the point where I basically break down if I see myself in a mirror.
(This is also not the first time I have tried to almost starve myself to lose weight, at one point just before I went vegan I was only consuming 500 calories a day.)
I'm getting really frustrated and discouraged because I'm not seeing any results, according to the scale I have actually gained even more weight! :(
If you could help guide me in the right direction to losing the weight that would be lovely, if not that's completely fine too!
Sorry for being a bother, hope you have a lovely day or night!
