Hi, I am so happy that I found your videos. I completed my bachelor's and masters in Information and communication technology. I'm a fresher & didn't have a clear idea about how the total system of IT works. With your videos I cleared so many doubts and you helped me in preparing for the IT support & service desk interviews. Thanks for being there with your videos by aiding people like me in gaining knowledge about how the real time IT works.
This week, I will have my second job interview for a traineeship at an IT company, where I will be placed on helpdesk for the first year. This video was very helpful!
@@brash_.._brash4600 It went great! Absolutely great. I am now employed as a senior IT Support Engineer at a major university in the Netherlands I would simply advise to watch the videos of CS50 of Harvard Uni (available on RUclips) What they asked me about... I am not to sure. Generic IT questions like "what is a PST file" or "what is WiFi and how does it work". The description that is given in this video is purely his experience in my opinion though. In bigger organisations this LVL 1-2-3 is completely bogus.
I have a passion for IT and helping others for IT related issues but I only have basic knowledge. I was looking for an IT job. But couldn't decide where to start. You have explained everything clearly and now I am going to start with Level 1 IT support. I have 100% confident that I can do the job with a minimal supervision. Thank you so much for much for the video.
You got this, don't worry. I'm a level 3 engineer and I still feel like I have a basic knowledge. We are also now promoting a level 2 engineer to join us, since he has the desired knowledge. It's just he thought he wouldn't make it (that's why he applied for level 2). All I am saying is go for it, you have nothing to lose. :)
This video was helpful on learning about how it is layed out in companies. I’m in college for computer support specialist and from this video I think I’d want to be Level 2 because I know I’m learning things for like level 3 like server administration and database management I feel level 2 sound like something I’d enjoy more with fixing computers in person in a company. Thanks for the video!
I’ve worked level 1 & 2 for 3 and a half years and while working level 1, I’ve had a few calls from level 2 staff out there asking for advice or doing some server fixes for them remotely. Level 1 seems underestimated, considering how much they can fix from a single call (depends on workplace tho)
Depends on the company and structure. When I started with the buisnesss I work for they basically gave you work on what you could handle I was dumped into server work which was not out of my range that I could coupe with as I had a few years of domestic support . Structure has changed a lot now as business has grown. Dedicated level 1 helpdesk team now . Good and bad. I like to say garbage in garbage out if I get garbage tickets from L1 and L2 then it wastes alot of my time. It’s critical that level 1 knows hoe to log tickets to standard
I'm a level 1 at Intel, I'm studying Industrial Design haha, has nothing to do with IT and I obviously have 30 times more experience in design but I like learning new stuff and although it's only a level 1 job, It's definitely rewarding, you learn something new every day
It is very broad especially in small companies, in my case, my first it job was for a small machining company. I was hired as level one with ABISMAL pay, i did everything there, from base level trouble shooting to accounting software administration, to switch configs. Great experience but do be aware in a lot of jobs, you will be expected to do much more then you are hired/paid for. I do not regret my choices, i would not trade the experience i gained there for anything else
I'm a level 1, 2 and 3, basically do all the jobs, from creating user accounts, building laptops to building servers, setting up switches, configuring firewalls etc.
Razgridzero hi, what do you specialise in? I have been considered for a lvl 3 role in Unix data and SQL officer. But I am a lvl 2 system admin, with little skills in unit or sql.
i feel a lot more comfortable helping out some1 in person, actually being there and seeing the problem with my own eyes, maybe its because i've had too many questions that were a bit out of level 1 range and its really hard to explain some of the more advanced issues.
I know this is several months old, but I completely agree. I worked at a local dried fruit company as an IT tech intern and would occasionally need to do some remote tech support. It was frustrating at times for both the end-user and myself. Sometimes I would need to support users who were tech illiterate (not criticizing them) and who would use a computer once in a blue moon for their job.
I think in the actual work place the level system can be quite different. I have seen Level 1 people maintaining system account, in the old lotus notes email, people at level 1 is fully responsible for creating Lotus Notes IDs, password recovery in that system, creating both AD accounts, linux accounts, solving lotus notes email issues. Level 2 can be responsible for managing all type of system including paging, phone, network connectivity, some program of switches etc, printer configuration, working on DHCP reservation. On level 3, SOE development, server service pack patch, capacity planning etc. Then network infrastructure is on a complete different level.
I just started my first IT job with no experience or IT education. I’m basically below level 1 just imaging laptops for customers and organising deliveries. I’m hoping to move onto level 1 in a few months if I can learn on the job as I really like IT. Thanks for the informative video.
That is wild. I have no degree, no certs no nothing and i got a level 1 helpdesk job... sell yourself in the interview and you’ll land a job within your skill set. With your skills from your certs you should be at least level 2 or 3. But again gotta start somewhere. Know your worth and keep climbing!!
I'm a Level 2/3 as my role mainly involves making sure sites don't go down , project work and Networking , also in terms of resolving issues I have to think what is beneficial for the users and site not just individuals

Some companies (typically smaller staff teams) have a discreet level 4. Level 4 would be advanced billing such as dealing with and processing manual refunds for products or services, investigating chargebacks and service outages, level 1-3 is mostly knowledge related, above that is trust and attitude towards the company as you're getting into management level. Coming from a level 4, it's worth it if you can bear the stress it'll generate initially, it eventually all becomes muscle memory and good fun.

sometimes level 1 and level 2 go hand in hand so if you think you're just going to do level two and not change people's passwords or other simple things that's not the case you will even if sometimes there's a level one help desk or a level one and a half or whatever they call it there will be times when people will ask you for help for simple things, its just part of the job

Your bigger issue is most likely lack of real world hands on experience with server Administration which college doesn't teach. Thats is why college degrees weren't really built for the IT field when working in support and infrastructure roles. Thanks for the comment, glad you found it helpful!
Very nicely explained 👍👍👍
Sir, can you please help me with a few common IT technical support interview questions? I have an upcoming interview this week.
How was your interview Saurish?
@@jansherkhan2609 I did my best. But they were looking for a guy with ITSM and related work experience.
Although, I studied about ITSM, I didn't have the relevant experience they were looking for. 🙁
But thanks for asking and sharing the knowledge. 👍
One more question sir, where can I find projects on ITSM so that I can add them to my resume?
@@saurishroy781 Thank you for your reply.
And what have you already studied before applying for the job there?
You are welcome@@jansherkhan2609 I read a bit about incidents, tickets and Incident management, and ofcourse customer support.
Nice video, but nowadays some companies will combine level 1,2,3 for you as a level one person

Level 3: The additional router you introduced to the network is acting as a rogue DHCP server.
