I'm a 48 years old metal head and waay back in the day when I was a kid while me and mom were cleaning up the house we listened to everything from ABBA, KISS, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Etc. Lots of great stuff. I'm Still a huge metal at my age now. But I have ABBA, Earth,Wind and Fire, Micheal Jackson etc on my iphone along with all my metal. Good music is kickass!! So much FUN!!! I was grooving right along with you!!!! I want to encourage you to start checking out Donna Summer. She is a highly underrated multi-talented artist (but listen to her official audio for best sound). She is best known for her disco hits in the 70s, but she branched out later with multiple genres of music. One thing that made her stand out as a disco artist is that she wrote her own songs (which was rare in the disco scene!)
On a related side note, Dolly Parton recorded a Donna Summer track in the late 70s! A ballad called "Starting Over Again".

The Disco era was exciting and the best disco songs have aged very well. Of course, there was a lot of other stuff going on in the late 1970s - Prog Rock, fusion, heavy metal, pop. So much great music, so little time.

More suggestions for disco would include KC and the Sunshine band and the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack....dude, you need to take Tasha to a 70s dance night at the club as I can see how much she loves dancing to this music...l!!!

Yea, there were disco roller rinks I Dance skated to Blondie the group with the first mainstream Rap song... Rapture. That 4/4 disco beat was everywhere! Do... Foxy... Get Off... or Lime... Babe, We're Gonna Love Tonight (official music video) for a taste of the hard-edged Disco. Disco was either soft and pretty or edgy or Funky. For Funk try... Earth Wind & Fire... Mighty Mighty Funk Funky Dancing... on Soul Train watch em work the platform shoes & wardrobes!

All disco IS dancing. And yes, every skating rink played disco at the time. Soul train at the time played disco all the time, just so they could show their dancing skills. It was where everyone could come together to have fun and dance together. It was nothing but good times for everyone, and getting together to party. Partying was the way to have fun and get down with your girl or your guy who was in your life.

Suggestion: Here is one of the best disco songs from the Disco era, it came out in 1979:
"Machine - There But for the Grace of God Go I". During the mid to late 70's it was the thing to go clubbing on a Friday and Saturday night. It was the "dance era". People would go out dancing; the music was so good back then. Enjoy!!

Hi again, i was never a fan of disco but if you went clubbing in the late seventies early eighties they never played anything else. THE disco anthem is I will survive by Gloria Gaynor. referring to Teresa's comment below, you should really listen to some Bowie. i prefer the early stuff from to 71 to 76 but there is always something to like throughout his extensive catalogue which covered almost 50 years.

1970s American "Disco" music is dance music that is an amalgamation of classical instrumental, note the preponderance of strings, with Latin dance, Merengue and Tropical, which was popular in the 1950s (See "I Love Lucy"). This all happened in the 70s, much like the 50s, because much or most of popular music was not useful for dance and, naturally, kids gotta dance! See references in "That 70s Show."

If you want to get the feel of disco music and its driving beat. I would love to get your reaction to the TRAMMPS "DISCO INFERNO", but watch the extended version where they are live dressed in white suits with bell bottom trousers. I still think it was greatest music era because that generation love dancing and the driving beat force one to go on the dance floor. I don't understand why disco is disliked by younger people today. Disco was forced out in 1979 by punk rockers, heavy metal lovers who congregated in a baseball stadium and burned thousands of disco records in the out field because many of their bands had begun making disco records. Radio stations at the time were forced to play disco as dance club had spread all over the country like wild fire.
Do you and your viewers a favor and
Give your reaction to that particular long version, Its roughly about 10 mins.

Whitney’s mother is Cissy Houston, 2x Grammy Award winning singer. Whitney’s cousins are singer Dee Dee Warwick & megastar Dionne Warwick (1 of the most charted female vocalists; 56 singles on Billboard charts, 12 Grammy nominations, 4 Grammy wins, + Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award). Dionne’s mother, Lee, & Emily/"Cissy", were sisters, part of the Drinkard family of Gospel singers, who began singing about 1938 &, after years & multiple name & member changes, became The Sweet Inspirations (which Cissy later left, when she went solo).

BTW do some Bowie, he’s the Father of “glam rock” he was called The chameleon of rock he was always changing. He was shy on stage so he made up diff characters in the 70’s. My favorite is Ziggy Stardust, then Aladdin Zane, Thin White Duke. He was very theatrical in his performances in the 70’s. Favorite songs: Ashes ashes” Star man” Jean Genie” Changes” Life on Mars”. 80’s: China Girl” Let’s Dance” Modern Love, “Hero’s” Cat People” to name a few.
