If they are 3 or 4 and know how to talk but haven’t listened to music yet, I’ll have them listen to a few songs by Zeppelin. Then people will still be fans.
I was in Home Depot a couple of days ago and the background music was "Baba O'Riley," by The Who. That was a bit odd. Mind you, it's over fifty years since "Who's Next" was released.
The number of songs "you have to know" is increasing every day and therefore there will be the point where you have to cut them some slack. Or did you know all relevant songs up to 70 years before your birth?
Whether they know the songs or not, it's wonderful to see these young people having such a wonderful time and wonderful relationships with their grandparents!
Loved the concept with the grandparents, especially it was a great job doing the other pairings, Jordan and Mikaela had great chemistry with their elder counterparts.

They definitely aren't you can just watch the other teen videos to see that they don't have much music knowledge apart from the hardcore mainstream tunes.

I'm seventeen I knew 6 of the 7 songs! To me it is suprising that they didin't know Aretha Franklin. Especially since she passed away not that long ago.
I am always happy to see gen-z listening and knowing this songs. I stayed a lot at my grandparents' house when I was little and they would play 50s/60s all the time and I was just so used to this music. And my parents played bands from 70/80/90s and those stayed with me. In my country we have so many clubs and festivals that do so called Timemachine Parties and they play music from 1950s to 2010s and so many young adults come all the time, but also older generations, who are nostalgic! 😊😁
I am proud of your generation knows a lot of these classics. In my opinion the music of the 60's, 70's, and 80's are so beloved and such classics are so ingrained in Movies, TV, they hopefully will continue to be loved and enjoyed Well into the future

These are some young grandparents. Mine are from the 20's, they listen to classical and german schlagers and would have no clue what these songs are. My parents grew up with this type of music so these guys are grandparents at the same age my parents are, jeez.

I'm actually 35 and my paternal grandfather was the youngest of 8 children and his parents are the oldest great grandparents I have since he was born in 1938 and his parents were in their 40s near 50s when he himself was born. My paternal grandfather's dad was born in 1891 and his mother was born in 1897 and his oldest brother was born in 1913. Also my paternal grandfather is the last of his 7 siblings still living today. His last surviving sibling was his sister who was born in 1929 had past away in 2016 at the age of 86 years old. She died before her 87th birthday from that year at 86. Now my paternal grandfather is going to be turning 82 years old in June of this year of 2020.
