The next female disco singer you need to check out is Yvonne Elliman, she killed it with the song "If I Can't Have You". (written by the Bee Gees)
Before this she was a backup singer for Eric Clapton. Loved her vocals with Marcy Levy.
Also performed as Mary in the movie version of Jesus Christ Superstar doing ‘I don’t know how to love Him’
Ah, great song !
If I Can't Have You... amazing!
YES!!!!!! A classic! I second that.
So weird! We were just singing this song at work today. What are the odds? She was a one-hit wonder during the height of the disco era. This song peaked at #5 in late 1978.
singing at work?!
💕
Haha that is so awesome for a Friday! 🥰🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 Yes, she was a one-hit wonder, and so was France Joli with her hit song, "Come To Me", which is such a fire disco song!!! I hope for next Female Friday they can react to her and Randy Crawford! Randy Crawford hardly gets any love as far as youtube reactors go. And she had an amazing voice and amazing career, especially with her big hit, "Street Life" which is a must-hear and react to!
They played this on Walmart radio yesterday too.
If you guys liked this, you would love “Knock On Wood “ by Amii Stewart and “Take Me Home” by Cher
LOVE Knock On Wood! One of the best disco songs!
Yes!!!!!
Yes! I used to blast her whole album every day. Also check out the soulful original by Eddie Floyd.
Add "Ring My Bell" by Anita Ward to that list!
The best disco song -- and one of the best songs of the entire 1970s -- is Shame by Evelyn Champagne King. A masterpiece of voice and musicality. 💥💯
Yes such a great groove! Outstanding vocal performance by Miss King!
I saw her sing Shame live twice ( once in the 70s and one last year in the Jazz Cafe in London ) she nailed it both times 40 years apart - she gave them what they wanted !
I'm sure they will love it, impossible not to dance to it.
My favorite is I Don't Know if it's Right!! ❤ Evelyn Champagne King!!
Yes!!!!
Thelma Houston’s “Don’t leave me this way” was a smash during the disco era. It’s such a powerful song!
Another awesome song from the disco era is "If I Can't Have You", by Yvonne Elliman. Perfect for your next Female Friday!
Also written by the Bee Gees
Very good choice.
Yes !!!!! Another great classic 👍🏻🔥
This! What a 70's classic!
Yes and also go back to Jesus Christ Superstar when she did Everything's Alright and I Don't Know How To Love Him. You really get to hear her voice on those two songs. She also did an amazing job with her small part of Peter's Denial.
There was nothing else like living in the disco era for those of us who love to dance! 🥰
I was a preteen lovin' the new disco hits each month. Didn't dance til the mid 80's to synth pop and early rap 😊
It was great fun for those of us that thought we could dance also. Gettin' stupid on the dance floor to some of the best music ever made.
And Roller Skating!!!!
Disco Skating.
Y'all should watch some disco skating movies from this era.
Three nights a week for me! I was in great shape in those days. Great times!
@@user-ii4zf5iq3t ....yes!
You need to check out Gloria Gaynor’s disco masterpiece I Will Survive. Talk about a strong disco woman! And an amazing sing-along song about empowerment.
YASSSSSS!
This song is also in the movie Pricilla Queen Of The Desert.
Definitely!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This! I came here just to say that!
Heck YEAH!!!!!!
the backing tracks to these 70s disco songs are just magic...thelma houston dont leave me this way is another example among many..just phenomenal musicianship and production
WOW I just checked, looks like they did not do that one. I vote for it 100 times 🙂🙂
That's a better song indeed
Disco is much maligned, I love it.
everyone does deep down!
Love the Discotheques ! 💃 🕺🏻
Yeah me too
It just evolved into today’s dance music!
Me too, Gene! I always have. How could you not? 🤷♂️
A great disco one hit wonder from 1978, she's got a unique voice
For me, she had the perfect voice for that song. I liked it immediately because of her unique voice.
Alicia Bridges' 1978 disco anthem "I Love The Nightlife (Disco 'Round was dancing in a circle.)" is a classic dance floor favorite. Written and produced by Alicia herself, the single was released in February of that year as part of her self-titled debut album. Featuring an all-star backing band including bassist Willie Weeks, guitarist Cornell Dupree, drummer Steve Gadd, keyboardist Richard Tee, and saxophonist David Sanborn, the song's lyrics speak to the joys of dancing and partying late into the night. With its infectious beat and soulful vocals, it has become one of the most recognizable songs of the disco era. Let the party start! 🎉🪩🎶.
I never knew about the band, thanks for sharing that.
@@jco207 💐
Love this song and David Sanborn!
@@dv3507 😊👍
Where are you getting this information as the album doesn't list any of those players and Bridges did not produce it but her co-writer Steve Buckingham did. This isn't meant as an attack just an honest question.
And Vicki Sue Robinson with “Turn The Beat Around”, an absolute monster hit.
Yes, not Gloria Estefan.
Cheryl Lynn’s “Got To Be Real” is a must for female Friday - right in the funk/ disco edge.
Even the throw-away Disco tunes of the 70s had a rich melody, catchy hooks and serious musical talent ..
Except for Disco Duck. 😂
@@nickimontiewell you know how there's always one of something that's just sad and pathetic. 😂😂😂👍💯✌🇨🇦🤣🤣
@@sueparras6028 So true!
@@nickimontie Well, it did have a catchy hook. 😄
@@salbro5985 and it's unforgettable 😃
This song always reminds me of a silly Dracula movie starring George Hamilton as Dracula, I can see Dracula dancing to this.
Love At First Bite! Just think, Hamilton never did suntan oil ads or commercials, having one of the most famous tans in the world! Not bad for a vampire!😂😂😂
Watching Amber's reactions to the music is what keeps me coming back to you guys. I love seeing her dancing sitting down with so much love for the music. Please keep it up guys. 👍💯✌🇨🇦♥️♥️♥️
They need to ditch those chairs and dance!!!
@@sheilaholmes996 Rude.
Great song! More disco please 😊
Another disco diva worth checking out; Yvonne Elliman- "If I Can't Have You" (which was actually on the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack)
Next up in disco must be Gloria Gaynor’s I WILL SURVIVE!
This is a good example of why disco shouldn't have had a backlash. And of course the queen herself, Donna Summer...and the Bee Gees!
I never understood the disco backlash. I guess when something gets too huge and too popular . . . but it still doesn't make sense to me. Bee Gee free weekends. A crate filled with disco records was blown up on the field between games of a doubleheader between the Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers. I mean give me a break. Really? You're that angry? Are you really going to get that angry about it that you feel the need to destroy it with explosives? Hey, just because you don't get it, probably can't dance and have no sense of rhythm, don't blame it on Donna Summer and the Bee Gees -- it's not their fault.
I was a kid in the 70s and I loved all the music! Rock, Country, Disco, Folk and even early Rap. Never understood the hatred some people had for Disco. I'm convinced it was mainly men that couldn't dance, so they pretended they were too cool to listen to songs that people danced to.
I grew up in the 70's Country and disco was my kryptonite.
Loved this song as a kid. I think it was in the "Love at First Bite" movie.
It was. I loved that movie as a kid and thought George Hamilton was the coolest vampire ever! Since my name is Sean, everytime this song came on kids in my class would say, "play that Axe Sean song" 😂😂.
Great movie.
I watched it recently. It is hilarious.
That’s the first thing I thought of. I love that movie. We saw it in the theater.
Yes, it was. Love that movie. They need to watch it in October
Thelma Houston's "Don't Leave Me This Way" is by far my favorite disco song sung by a woman. I've never seen that song come on and not have the whole place dancing. Would love a female Friday reaction for that one! ✌️🕺🪩
That song is like a musical wildfire. It starts slow briefly and then just blazes.
@@bloppysloppy4057 Absolutely! Spot on 💯
Huge disco tune from the late 70's!
WHAT CHARISMA AND VOICE.
I can't hear this song without thinking of the movie "Love at First Bite" with George Hamilton.
Me too. IMO, one of the smoothest vampires ever!😂😂 The irony was this vampire had one of the most famous tans in the world, and never did Copper-Tone or Hawaiian Tropic ads! Go figure!😂😂
Classic
Same!
This came out around 79. I was in 6th grade. We had a friend named Misty who would sing this and she sounded JUST like Alicia! If you can imagine an 11 year old with a voice like... we'd always ask her to sing this and we'd crack up😂, especially on the school bus on the way home!
I was so happy to hear this gem after so many years that I jumped up and danced in my living room! Thanks for bringing all of your fans such fun memories while you’re hearing songs for the first time!
That was one of the songs that was the epitome of the '70s. I remember that song so well. I was out of high school by the time that came out and just coming into my partying years!!
1978, great one-hit wonder!
Long live dance music! Thelma Houston's Don't Leave Me This Way is a banger! Also Odyssey's Native New Yorker is a disco treat that played at Studio 54 when I'd go there in late 70's. Fun times
Even as a child growing up on a farm in the '70s I was intrigued by the glimpses of the disco lifestyle I saw on TV.
By the time I was in my 20s, living in a city in the early '90s, the styles and sounds of the 1970s were experiencing a revival. The best times at the clubs were on "Trash Disco" nights when they played these hits all night long and we'd never leave the dance floor!
"I Will Survive" is a song by American singer Gloria Gaynor is a popular disco🪩 anthem. "Another One Bites the Dust" was a disco🪩 song by QUEEN. The head bobbing disco🪩 hit was conceived by bassist John Deacon. George McCrae - 'Rock Your Baby'. This was a massive international hit in 1974, and was arguably the first true disco🪩hit around the world that introduced the genre to the mainstream. Lady Marmalade, Labelle. Boogie Wonderland, Earth, Wind, And Fire With The Emotions. Ladies Night, Kool & The Gang. If I Can’t Have You, Yvonne Elliman. Give Me The Night, George Benson. Le Freak, Chic. Devil Woman, Cliff Richard. Dancing Queen, Abba. John Paul Young - 'Love is in the Air' The Hues Corporation - 'Rock the Boat' Rod Stewart - 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?' Tavares - 'Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel'. Village People - 'YMCA'. The Weather Girls - 'It's Raining Men". The Four Seasons - 'December '63 (Oh What a Night)'. The O'Jays - 'Love Train."
Just a few of great disco🪩 tunes‼
Great list, might I add The Bee Gees-Night Fever and Amii Stewart- Knock On Wood?
@@TonyM1961 Ƭʜᵃℕҡ ყօϋ TONY‼
“Rock Your Baby” just might be my favorite song of all time. Remember his wife Gwen MacCrae’s answer song “Rocking Chair” the following year? Loved that one too.
"Armed and Extremely Dangerous" by First Choice from 1973 could be considered the first Disco hit (not arguing with you just adding my two cents). It sounds more like a song from the later Disco period of 1978-79 than a hit before the genre even had a name.
@@bloppysloppy4057 it could even be argued that Isaac Hayes’ “Theme From Shaft” was the first disco hit in 1971, and there are some who even suggest Jerry Butler’s “Only The Strong Survive” in 1969 could qualify for that title as well. Not sure if I buy into the Jerry Butler theory, but in my mind “Shaft” is a strong contender.
you have to do Thelma Houston's disco classic- 'Don't Leave me this Way' that and this song by Alicia plus Gloria Gaynor's 'I will Survive' were probably the 3 biggest female hits of the genre.
Haven't heard in Forever, but I do remember this song! Hard to believe it's been 45yrs? Thx Guys!
Only a handful of disco songs featured a singer with a unique voice, she is a prime example of that 🤠
"I want some act-shon" LOL! Love this song.
one of THE biggest disco hits- and one of the best! Featured in the Great film, 'The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert'
Don’t Leave Me This Way by Thelma Houston is another great female disco classic.
Don't Leave Me This Way by Thelma Houston is a favorite!!! The 12" version!
One of my favorite disco songs when I was a teenager in the late 70s!!!
A dance floor favorite! I love this song!
2023 is the year my childhood love of disco has been reignited! 🥰 I’ve been wandering through various genres through the years but I’m glad I made it back because disco is just REALLY FUN! Lifts my mood up every time. 🙌
incredible all time classic, one of the greatest disco records of all time
This song was featured in the romantic comedy movie "Love at First Bite" when the vampire becomes captivated by the girl of his dreams in a disco. Greatest dance scene.
I was a teenager in the 70s, I will always love disco. Classic Rock will always have it's place, I loved it as well, but in my opinion, so did disco. It had a " lift you up" " time to have fun" quality that is still there for me today. Great reaction guys, I look forward to the next!
Disco cannot be denied! I turned 18 in 1976 so I got into the discos and went for 3 straight years, 3 nights a week!
I wasn't a teen disco maniac back then, although I liked a lot of the songs! But now at 63, I MISS THOSE DAYS!!!! bring back Disco!🤣🤣😂😂👍👍
I can still remember this tune coming out of my muffly clock radio.
Check out Evelyn Champagne King and ‘Shame’ or Yvonne Elliman’s ‘If I can’t Have You’ off the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.
Disco NEVER sucked.
It was just exploited and ran into the ground by the industry. It was a fresh new sound when it first came out.
You guys are really getting the vibe of the Disco era. It was fabulous it fun it was fast pace it is all those things and more. I lived I loved it and still do some of the prolific music ever written ever performed was this era. Not just here but world wide
Disco dancing on a Friday night never gets old. 👏👏
I got to boogie! I can’t listen to this without thinking about Love at First Bite with George Hamilton
Lol I saw that movie multiple times just because of this song! I couldn’t remember the name of the movie until I read your comment.
I saw Love at First Bite at the movies with my brother. This song!! We were 13 and 18.
I love this song! I remember it was in a movie I used to watch called Love at First Bite
I love that movie; it’s definitely one that J and Amber should watch.
I remember that movie
This song was removed from the DVD release of Love at First Bite due to licensing issues.
"You don't know anything about me." "I know you like to have your ankles licked."
I remember that movie Love at first bite
Disco was my life! I was 18 in 78 and I enjoyed it. Disco really didn't die they just started calling it Dance Music. Please listen to Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive for another Disco hit by a female.
One of my favorite Disco songs!!!!
Haven't heard this in 35 years. Was the theme song for a modern vampire comedy starring George Hamilton and Susan St. James called "Love At First Bite". Memories.
This song was always played at my mother's parties in the late 70's and early 80's. Another hit I remember was "Single Bed" by Noosha Fox. ❣
Fox were fabulous! And Noosha was so charismatic!
🤯🤯🤯🤯 Wow!!! That takes me back .
Glad you guys enjoyed 🎉👍
Oh the number of times all of us kids sang “ack-shawn!!” With our transistor radios and rollerskates!
This song was played at my School Dances and Parties and at the Skating Rink. This song was great to Dance and Roller Skate to.
I graduated High Scholl in 1982. I am so glad I grew up during a Golden Era of Music.
Class of 1980 here. I'm glad I grew up when I did too. It was the best of everything.
This is amazing!❤😂…ACTSHUN!!
You mean Axe Sean! Yes, it was a joke at me and my late best friend Shaun when we were kids! 😂 George Hamilton and his film "Love At First Bite" is one of my favourite films ever. 😂😂
@@seanswinton6242 I saw LAFB at the movies with my brother. We were teenagers. We couldn’t stop saying the word action like her. And couldn’t stop laughing.
Here are two other female disco songs for you: If I Can't Have You by Yvonne Elliman, and Funky Town by Lipps Inc.
I've heard this song lots of times, but this is the first time I've actually seen what the singer actually looks like.
She was a country singer prior to this, then dipped her toe into disco and came out with this hit.
Great song. It was in a hilarious comedy called Love At First Bite. It was used in a disco scene. The movie is definitely worth a watch. Too funny.
My JAM!!!
One the greatest disco number! It excelled beyond disco, and made folks stand up and dance yet really feel the words and feel what she wanted to say. Ahead of its time while being of the time.
This song was used in the 70's comedy movie "Love at First Bite". My favorite part of this song when she sings "ACK-SHAWN!"
I Love Disco esp. The 'Queen of Disco' Donna Summer. R.I.P. Please check out 'Heaven knows' & 'Down deep inside' & 'I Love you'd th for the post & your reactions.
She was an amazing and eclectic one hit wonder..
I live in Tennessee and love country music so when disco came along I was crazy about it. One Saturday night I'd go to a club with a country band and the next Saturday night I'd go to a disco that was a couple of towns over. THOSE WERE THE DAYS !!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🎵🎶
This was such a tune back in 1978 it was used in the soundtrack for a great film, 'Love At First Bite' 1979 a comedy Vampire film, great one for Movie Mondays or Film Fridays, it's funny and has a great soundtrack too.
Love this song! It was originally planned as a country hit!
This doing is an oldie and a goodie. It was the song also a soundtrack of a movie with George Hamilton. OMG I LOVED HER VOICE. I DON'T KNOW WHY I NEVER HEARD HER SING WAY MORE. I HAD THE GIRL CRUSH ON ALICIA BRIDGES🩵
I couldn’t wait to see your faces when the sax solo started!!
I love her voice and this is one of my favorite karaoke songs to sing.
She has a miss Tina Turner vibe ❤️
I could’ve sworn all my life that the singer was black because of that voice. That was until I saw her in another reaction video and finally discovered the singer is a Brigitte Nielsen lookalike.
Oh yeah, this was that joint back in the day! When she started singing the chorus, I had this great big smile that came on my face. Good times!!!! Miss them.
you guys make me feel young again. I'm 63 and was a teenager in the 70s and it makes me so happy to hear these songs and to see how much you both love them too. Thank you for that and bless you both for bringing positivity to the Internet. Love you guys.
Would you believe this song actually saw some “ ack-Shawn” on a few country radio stations back in the day? It did! I guess because she’s from North Carolina that made her “country” in some people’s eyes. 😂😂 Phenomenal song from the height of the disco era! Love the sax too! ❤
So did I! "Ack-Sean!" At the roller skating rink though, I was only 12!😂😂😂 I play sax by the way and it was one of my favourite solos I learned to play back then. 😂
I love the way she sings "action" LOL! Fun song.
She also did some country music back in the 80s.
I seem to recall that her main genre was more gospel so maybe that played into that base as well.
@@poindexterjones206 I agree! Ack-Shawn is one of the most memorable parts of the song. lol
Have you done "Knock on Wood"? That's an awesome disco song by a woman, Amii Stewart. 🙂
I first heard this song in a movie called love at first bite. I was hooked I really enjoyed this song. I was 11 years young
Back when this came out in '78 it played constantly. Discos, Skating rinks, and wherever. I love disco, so that was fine with me!
Yvonne Elliman If I Can’t Have You from Saturday Night Fever
Tori Amos "China" official music video. It's a very slow, bittersweet love song. Absolutely beautiful!
I'm a simple man. I see Tori Amos, I upvote. And China is a beautiful song, I 100% agree.
Never liked that song "China" it's a real snoozer lol, even though I do love her very slow piano songs like Apollos Frock, Garlands, etc
Sat night at the rink with Alicia dancing and rolling till closing. I was a bit young for the discos yet but brings back the memories...great song.
Disco banger...beautifully crafted 1970s dance floor classic.
Check out Shirley & Company "Shame, Shame, Shame". Her "body needs action"!!!
Shirley was a singer from the 50s (probably her biggest hit was "let the Good Times Roll") who came back in the 70s with that gem
This is one of Disco's National Anthems.
Check out Maxine Nightingale - Right back where we started from.
This is one reason I love you guys so much. Loving your reactions and helping me remember all those great 🎵. Thanks guys!
Always loved the little guitar licks in this song....the dudes having fun.
This is a great song since I'm a 70s disco baby! 😂 Please do Somebody Else's Guy by Jocelyn Brown I know that you both will be ready to groove when you hear it!

Y’all won’t believe this but Alicia Bridges went to my high school in the very small town of Lawndale, NC. This is definitely a classic and a one hit wonder!! 😅
This song was also on the soundtrack of the movie Love at first bite . from 1979
There are so many disco songs that have tons of soul. One's like this are the cream of the disco crop!
An iconic song of the 70s. A fun vampire comedy from the 70s where this song was used is "Love at First Bite" (1979). So if you want to see Count Dracula dancing to this song then check out Love at First Bite.
A huge hit here in Brazil … old good times !
