The literally was THE LAST SONG to play in most nightclubs “in the day”! Donna is a true icon. I would say her and he Bee Gees are THE Icons for Disco❤️
“MacArthur’s Park” is the song that is her definitive work. She hits some of the highest notes in music history. You need this song in your life as it can elicit tears of appreciation.
Although the media called her the Queen of Disco, the LATE, GREAT Donna Summer could song ANY genre of music. If you saw her live performances, she could belt out notes EFFORTLESSLY. Not long before, she passed away from lung cancer (never smoked) at age 63, she could sing all of her hits in the original key. Her voice never changed, a true gift from God.
Sometimes, one can mistake her because she could fool you. The Wanderer, Nightlife, and Eyes are song examples of this. Normally, when she sings in her usual belting voice, that's when she's most identifiable. Last Dance, Hot Stuff and She Works Hard For The Money are some examples of this.
Donna has 3 daughters. The youngest, Amanda Sudano Ramirez (pure and angelic voice, just like her mom), sings with her husband Abner Ramirez and they go by the name JOHNNYSWIM. A few years ago, when their oldest son Joaquin was still a toddler, they showed in an instagram video where they were playing this song and immediately upon hearing that beautifully silky voice over synth and strings, Joaquin (dancing around in the living room) stops in his tracks and with excitement, in his squeaking little voice, said 'Gamma?!' Oh! My heart! It melted. He never got to meet his grandmother, but he knew her through her music. I thought that to be a beautiful connection his mother and father helped to give him that will be as timeless as the song itself. That one moment has stayed with me since and now every time I hear this intro, I remember it.
Richard Henderson The inspiration for Summer to write the song came after one of her assistants was offended by a police officer who thought she was a street prostitute. Too funny. Wiki about the song.
No autotune here...What you hear from her on record is what you heard from her live. This woman could absolutely blow!!! Also, I'm surprised you guys have not reacted to Bad Girls yet. My absolute favorite by her.
"Last Dance" by Donna Summer is the only disco song to ever win the Oscar for Best Original Song - 1978, from the disco movie "Thank God It's Friday", starring Jeff Goldblum & Debra Winger.
Before Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston was Donna Summer’s powerhouse voice. Her ability to effortlessly hold a note with such strength behind it was incredible. It is hard to believe that she suffered from crippling stage fright. You never would have known by her amazing performances. Two of my favorite songs of hers are On The Radio and Heaven Knows.
This song started a trend for Donna and in Disco.. a slow luscious intro..then the beat drops and the fun begins!! There is a 7 minute version of this song as well!! PLEASE check out MacArthur Park - the 6 minute album version, Dim all the Lights, On The Radio, and Enough is Enough!!
You can ask anyone between the ages of 50 and 70, this was LITERALLY the last song played at every party, gathering, wedding etc. When it came on EVERYONE jumped up and started dancing, knowing the music would stop after this song. When this song was over, the party was over and we all left in a great mood!
I cannot emphasize enough how massive a hit this was. Great at dances because it starts as a slow dance then turns in to a fast dance jam. Great reaction!
The Queen of Disco, indeed. But also of the Pop, Soul, and R&B, of the time!!! I was blessed to have seen Donna Summers presence unfold, as it happened. She brought Magic 🎩 ✨️!!
The undisputed QUEEN of disco!!! This is one rabbit hole worth exploring! Here are more bangers: Heaven Knows, I Feel Love, Hot Stuff, Bad Girls, On The Radio, She Works Hard For The Money...
Seconding what Bill says. I Feel Lover particularly was a landmark in music. The first all synthesized song. And it went to #2 in 1977, which for the time was insane!!!!
I have just discovered this station and I love how respectful you are to all the artists. These are songs from my childhood and I love to see new people discover them. Thanks you.
Donna Summer was the biggest female artist of the late 1970's and probably the only artist to have 3 double albums to hit number 1 back-to-back-to-back. She also replaced herself at number one on the Billboard singles chart, replacing "Hot Stuff" with "Bad Girls" in 1979. Although she was a huge star, her incredible voice has been highly under-rated and she doesn't get the same kind of props as a Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey. Great reaction!
RIP Donna Summer. Such an amazing vocalist, performer, and writer. She never got the credit she deserved. She is not just disco. You gotta react to She Works Hard For the Money
Donna is queen! This was performed years later on the show "Family Matters" when she played Aunt Oona from Altoona. I highly suggest her song that David Bowie said was his favorite "I Feel Love" and please do Talk Talk--Talk Talk. Thanks!
Ms. Donna was definitely EXCEPTIONAL! She was DEFINITELY THE QUEEN and reigned throughout the late seventies. I am glad you young folks have discovered and enjoy her as well. In last dance, you were given both the soft and sweet Donna followed by a big, high-octane dose of disco Donna. The music combined with the fabulous voice produced a massive hit and treat for our ears in 1978. This song is is majestic!
Yes yes yes you finally done it I love it great reaction guys to my favorite female artist of all time. I believe Donna Summer is terribly underrated and in my opinion she’s up there with the best ever thank you guys for reacting to this especially last dance!
Donna Summer was the queen of disco for a reason. Her voice is angelic and those beats are sinful. She had the disco jams and Diana Ross had the soulful disco songs. Two powerhouse performers.
Hi guys, at the beginning of this Donna Summers hit, when it was slow and tender, all us "old disco dudes" knew what was coming and were ready for your amazing reaction to the change to the disco tempo. She was definitely the Queen of Disco.
My ice skating ⛸ partner and I did a routine using this song during an amateur competition in the 70’s and we got disqualified for using disco music. The judges hated us but the audience loved us and booed when the disqualification was announced. Back then, ice skating ⛸ competitions were much more snobbish about themselves.
It was bittersweet. We knew that disco music was discouraged in competition but didn’t know it would disqualify us. And we were 14 at the time so it kinda crushed us. But, over time, we came to be proud of our bucking the system.
Queen of disco... before my mother passed when I was a kid, she used to blast this album while cleaning or whatever. So I have a special place in my heart for Donna Summers music.
Oh yeah I can definitely relate to that, I did the same thing. Made Saturday morning cleaning effortless. May your mom RIP and bless you and your family.
Donna Summer (R.I.P.) had the pipes and gave us some of the greatest songs...this being one of them! There is a longer version of this that contains another verse. You should check out the movie Thank God It's Friday (1978). She stars in it as an up and coming singer just trying to catch a break and her chance is to sing THIS song live for the dance contest that this club is having. The Commodores are also in it. Another is Teri Nunn who was the lead singer of Berlin. She's not a singer in this one but is trying to win the contest.
As a girl who loves to sing, Donna and also Olivia Newton John were my absolute idols, I wanted to be them. I was 9 when this song came out, I can't tell you how many many many hours I sang along to this song with my hairbrush as my mic.
I love the way she would start soft and build til your ears were pinned back. She's another example of effortless power. Now imagine that, with strobes and colored lights, disco balls and in some places, crazy lights in the floors... dancing.
Had the privilege of seeing Donna Summer in concert “back in the day”. This was supposed to be her finale, but then she came back and sang MacArthurPark as an encore! Absolutely amazing!
"Love to Love You Baby" is her most notorious song--especially the long 17-minute version. It's a song that got her noticed, but she went on to put out hit after hit in the late 70's.
One of the top disco songs was "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor. But I'm sure even if you never reacted to it you do know it!! My favorite Donna Summers song is "On the Radio" it's not only a great sound but it tells a story!!
The literally was THE LAST SONG to play in most nightclubs “in the day”! Donna is a true icon. I would say her and he Bee Gees are THE Icons for Disco❤️
YES it was!! 🕺🏻💃🏻
Yes it was. Wow, I kinda forgot that.
I remember it, Studio One was a hot spot in LA
Yeah, this song almost makes me sad when it starts because of that.
Yep, when this was a top hit in 1978-79, it was always the last song played at our school dances, too.
Donna Summer had a voice that was a gift from God.
Her and Barry Gibb were the voices of disco!
Donna was the Queen of the disco era. She could really see anything. I saw her in concert in the 90’s in NY.
Not just the Queen of Disco. One of the voices of a generation.
I cried when I heard of her passing. Donna Summers was the music of my childhood. I sang along with all her songs and drove my parents crazy.
It's Donna SUMMER. One Summer.
Donna Summer was the QUEEN of disco! And an absolutely gorgeous Lady, too! 🥰
Donna DEFINED the Disco era! EVERY person who grew up during this period knows how AMAZING she was!!
She was everything
She is the queen of disco for a reason she even sang a disco rendition of natural woman and owned it!!!!
How could you not expect the beat to drop? She’s he queen of disco!! 🕺🏽
I know right lol
“MacArthur’s Park” is the song that is her definitive work. She hits some of the highest notes in music history. You need this song in your life as it can elicit tears of appreciation.
Yes, This Please!
Agree!!
McArthur Park is a staple for every over the top drag queen performance!
Amen!
Great song and also On The Radio
Although the media called her the Queen of Disco, the LATE, GREAT Donna Summer could song ANY genre of music. If you saw her live performances, she could belt out notes EFFORTLESSLY. Not long before, she passed away from lung cancer (never smoked) at age 63, she could sing all of her hits in the original key. Her voice never changed, a true gift from God.
I don't think there are many people who can put so much emotion in their voices. And she makes it sound so easy. And she has to have 3 lungs.
Donna Summer had an amazing and easily identifiable voice. You could never mistake her
Sometimes, one can mistake her because she could fool you. The Wanderer, Nightlife, and Eyes are song examples of this. Normally, when she sings in her usual belting voice, that's when she's most identifiable. Last Dance, Hot Stuff and She Works Hard For The Money are some examples of this.
Donna Summers ruled the world with this song
It's Donna SUMMER. One Summer.
She sounded exactly the same live too, fantastic voice,!
She is called the Queen Of Disco!
Donna has 3 daughters. The youngest, Amanda Sudano Ramirez (pure and angelic voice, just like her mom), sings with her husband Abner Ramirez and they go by the name JOHNNYSWIM. Love Donna Summer!!! RIP..😪😪❤❤ Try "Bad Girls", by Donna Summer.😀❤
Richard Henderson The inspiration for Summer to write the song came after one of her assistants was offended by a police officer who thought she was a street prostitute. Too funny. Wiki about the song.
Queen of Disco!! Love her music!!
"Soft & gentle" + "Power" = Last Dance 🔥 So glad you found this one. Iconic.
She never had to force a note! What a voice!
No autotune here...What you hear from her on record is what you heard from her live. This woman could absolutely blow!!! Also, I'm surprised you guys have not reacted to Bad Girls yet. My absolute favorite by her.
Donna was the Queen of the One-Takes.
This woman has the most beautiful voice in the world ❤️ I could listen to her music all day long.
This was the closing song in every Disco in the 70s.
"Last Dance" by Donna Summer is the only disco song to ever win the Oscar for Best Original Song - 1978, from the disco movie "Thank God It's Friday", starring Jeff Goldblum & Debra Winger.
It’s classic (but cheesy), the best kind 🤣
We can thank the late great Paul Jabara for writing this gem.
Also Terri Nunn from Berlin makes a cameo!!!!
Thank you for the info. I had no idea.
Donna..well deserved it.
The version in this video is an edit of this version: ruclips.net/video/_CDJzQO76FM/видео.html. It's missing the awesome bridge...
I’m a metal head and think Donna Summer has one of the best soulful voices of all time and deserves the recognition that has passed her by. 👍🏼❤️❤️❤️
Donna Summer is the most underrated female singer of the 20th Century. What an incredible talent. Miss our Queen!
Donna Summer was the dreamiest of the Disco Divas 💕
True 70's Disco...!!! I was too young to get into any nightclubs but loved the music...!!!
This song still fills up the dance floors today!
Yep, the slow intro became a trademark of DISCO. 100% True.
@@brockbaby of Donna
MacArthur Park is absolutely amazing
Yes, this song did start a trend. My favorite slow intro/upbeat disco song beyond Donna Summer is "Come To Me" by France Joli.
The first time they heard Donna was Enough is Enough. December 31 of last year. Great reaction!
I miss Donna...she left us too soon...that voice is very legendary..truly a icon
Donna is up there with the very best singers of all time. She was just amazing.
You can ask anyone between the ages of 50 and 70, this was LITERALLY the last song played at every party, gathering, wedding etc. When it came on EVERYONE jumped up and started dancing, knowing the music would stop after this song. When this song was over, the party was over and we all left in a great mood!
All songs for her I love...but that is my favorite ❤
I cannot emphasize enough how massive a hit this was. Great at dances because it starts as a slow dance then turns in to a fast dance jam. Great reaction!
On The Radio is another one that rocks, but you should do a live version, you need to understand how gorgeous this woman was, absolutely gorgeous.
So true.
The theme song of a fantastic movie, "Foxes".
They heard both this song and on the radio during the Selena disco medley
Yes ,Donna Summer was BIG !!! The Undisputed Queen of Disco ,but so much more!!!
I believe that “Last Dance” won an Oscar
And that's how it's done by a Professional.
Thank you Donna ❤️.
The Queen of Disco, indeed.
But also of the Pop, Soul, and R&B, of the time!!!
I was blessed to have seen Donna Summers presence unfold, as it happened.
She brought Magic 🎩 ✨️!!
Nothing but respect for Donna Summer!
The undisputed QUEEN of disco!!! This is one rabbit hole worth exploring! Here are more bangers: Heaven Knows, I Feel Love, Hot Stuff, Bad Girls, On The Radio, She Works Hard For The Money...
Dim All The Lights
Seconding what Bill says. I Feel Lover particularly was a landmark in music. The first all synthesized song. And it went to #2 in 1977, which for the time was insane!!!!
@@brockbaby The stereo separation alone is amazing!!! That song was way ahead of its time!
I danced to them all. Great times .
Macarthur Park is another great one, especially the long version.
When doing Donna Summer, expect the unexpected ! She'll blow you away every time!
Awesome. Next Donna Summer stop: Dim All the Lights, Macarthur Park, On the Radio, Sunset People, Heaven Knows, I Feel Love. All of these are 🔥.
We did a cool Pom Pom routine to Dim all the Lights with flashlights back in the 70s.
Most of Donnas biggest songs were from the 70s

Donna Summer - "I Remember Yesterday".
You will be AMAZED!
"MacArthur Park"...my favorite donna summers song.
Donna Summer was an international super star. She had many many hits and an amazing voice
This was the song they played back in the day 80s at the club love Donna Summer too
The Disco Queen! Her songs are amazing. We played them at our dances back in the 70’s. 🙏🙏
Oh, the last dances I had back in the day. This song shut down the clubs many a night.
She had a fabulous voice
I grew up on Donna Summers music amazing artist and taken too soon RIP Donna but your music lives on.
For me The Summer of 78 was the DONNA SUMMER Summer! She was at her peak and all over the radio and dance floors.
Queen of disco, and so much more!
RIP Donna Summer. She was a the goddess of disco!
her voice is just mazing, going up three octaves in one note, holding them all
RIP Donna Summer. Such an amazing vocalist, performer, and writer. She never got the credit she deserved. She is not just disco. You gotta react to She Works Hard For the Money
My first school dance, 8th grade...this was played for the last dance. She was a powerhouse.
Donna is queen! This was performed years later on the show "Family Matters" when she played Aunt Oona from Altoona. I highly suggest her song that David Bowie said was his favorite "I Feel Love" and please do Talk Talk--Talk Talk. Thanks!
That's my all time favorite singer: male or female. Very versatile. Not just the Queen Of Disco. She won four Grammy in four different genres.
She was definitely the queen of disco, all over the clubs and radio too.
Oscar winning song from "Thank God it's Friday"!
Ms. Donna was definitely EXCEPTIONAL! She was DEFINITELY THE QUEEN and reigned throughout the late seventies. I am glad you young folks have discovered and enjoy her as well. "She Works Hard For the Money" GREAT SONG.
I agree with you 150%!!!! So underrated!
American ICON! Rest in Peace Ms. Summer. You are missed...
Donna Summer was the queen of disco for a reason. Her voice is angelic and those beats are sinful. She had the disco jams and Diana Ross had the soulful disco songs. Two powerhouse performers.
THE QUEEN! ICON! Donna Summer was amazing! Gone too soon! Watching Amber enjoy this song, made my day!
Just totally amazing with that beautiful God given talent. One of the best!
The song was made for Donna Summer, the Queen of soulful disco. You can watch her effortlessly belting the song with ease......that was a good singer
Hi guys, at the beginning of this Donna Summers hit, when it was slow and tender, all us "old disco dudes" knew what was coming and were ready for your amazing reaction to the change to the disco tempo. She was definitely the Queen of Disco.
Another classic Donna Summer song that filled the dance floors
Underrated singer. ❤️
Donna Summer is someone you must see as well as hear her sing. Her facial expressions, and she was simply gorgeous.

The judges hated us but the audience loved us and booed when the disqualification was announced. Back then, ice skating ⛸ competitions were much more snobbish about themselves.
I worked with a Sandy Bakke at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix...1975
No relation but, while Bakke is a somewhat uncommon name in America, it is about as common in Norway as the name “Hill” is in America.
So,basically, you won! Thumbs up for being yourself, and performing to the music that you loved!
It was bittersweet. We knew that disco music was discouraged in competition but didn’t know it would disqualify us. And we were 14 at the time so it kinda crushed us. But, over time, we came to be proud of our bucking the system.
🖕to the 'system', any and all of the them. Do what you like, not what someone else thinks you should do.👏👏👍🙋♂️
She was on Broadway, and then a queen of disco. Just a sublime voice.
Beautiful song! I have always loved this song. Donna Summer is AWESOME.
I haven't listened to Donna in more years than I want to mention. I forgot how much I love her music! Thank you for the reminder!
Queen of disco... before my mother passed when I was a kid, she used to blast this album while cleaning or whatever. So I have a special place in my heart for Donna Summers music.

Queen!!! All ways played at closing time yep! The long version the note she carries is forever!! "On the Radio", and yes she was HUGE!
I love the way she would start soft and build til your ears were pinned back. She's another example of effortless power. Now imagine that, with strobes and colored lights, disco balls and in some places, crazy lights in the floors... dancing.
Fun Fact: Last Dance won the 1979 Oscar for Best Song (from the Movie, Thank God It's Friday)
Definitely a cult classic movie. ✌🏾👍🏾
the woman is an icon and didn't get enough props during her career. One of her songs that will amaze you is "Love To Love Me".
Had the privilege of seeing Donna Summer in concert “back in the day”. This was supposed to be her finale, but then she came back and sang MacArthurPark as an encore! Absolutely amazing!
Donna Summer was the Queen of Disco! Hit after hit! This is what we danced to in the late 70s. So glad I was born in the early 60s
We'd dance to this at the end of every disco night out. The longer version had you on the floor till the end.
Nobody could sit still for this song!!! Oh, the memories!
For a few moments, I was transported back to 1978 and a better time. Such an inspirational song by an amazing artist. Thanks, Rob Squad.
You guys have to check out the rest of her hits you will not be disappointed! TRUE ICON!!!
"Love to Love You Baby" is her most notorious song--especially the long 17-minute version. It's a song that got her noticed, but she went on to put out hit after hit in the late 70's.
I got to hear it when I was a kid listening to the top 40 station in Chicago. It did things to me.
Can just imagine Jordan blushing at love to love you
70s Donna Summer is by far the best NOT EVEN CLOSE
I have Donna's greatest hits.....there will never be anyone quite like her.
One of the top disco songs was "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor. But I'm sure even if you never reacted to it you do know it!! My favorite Donna Summers song is "On the Radio" it's not only a great sound but it tells a story!!
Yes! And the other iconic one is “ You Make Me Feel Mighty Real” by trans disco icon- Sylvester.
Donna was known as the Queen of disco. Love the dance beat.
