I saw "gold gas" in the list of possible materials, I wonder what color the game devs decided to make it? IRL gassious gold is a reddish purple color. (besides also being white hot)
I'm so happy to know that Cody also watches Brothgar :D This game is SOOOO INTRICATE!!! It's insane, the level of detail the devs went into for this game.
mealwood->poluted dirt->compost->fertilizer->hatch->coal power->co2->poluted water->fertilizer maker->fertilizer(recycle)&natural gas->natural gas generator->co2(recycle)->poluted water(recycle) = closed, makes power from meal wood. can use natural gas generator poluted water for water generation and that to oxygen with electroliser +hydrogen generator.
I've watched every single one of your experiments and I still have zero understanding of how they work, even when I put them in my own base. Thanks for helping out ONI scrubs like me :D
Hi Brothgar, One thing you may not have taken into account is that when you debug move a puft they don't inhale as much or quickly as a normal puft will. You can fix it by tell as ding after its debug moved. I've tested it a few times in the last builds, but not 100% sure in the latest.
Thanks for the mention! I've been playing with using biomes for a (mostly) powerless way of making coal, I'll send that your way once it's mostly figured out. :)
Moving the puff up higher would help since gas tends to be dencer on the bottom of it's container. Having a cage right above the Bio destiller so your dups don't have to travel far to move the slime that drops. Having it so the puff cage can be easly access by dups might allow the puff a way to escape.
Hello Brothgar! You don't need plants for polluted oxygen. Just make a couple of layers with normal tiles and a border and put polluted water on there. So there is no maintenance at all. Also no stifling because of pressure issues. It's like the caverns in slime biomes where tons of polluted oxygen bursts out of if you dig into them. If you put the pufts next to them and cover the bottom in water the slime will stay in its form. So if you place the pufts vertically and have an area at the bottom that is about 2m² and covered with liquid duplicants can pick up slime without getting wet feet nor loosing slime . You can lock the door, so they won't come in for every little bit and wait until there is a decent haul. Or make a little way where you place deodorizers and just use sand instead of pufts. So the polluted oxygen comes out of there and gets cleaned instantly. This has one downside you should be aware of, because if you are not using the air, pressure will rise... ^^ The other thing is, that you don't need a polluted water input when set up, because even though it emits polluted oxygen, water levels will stay the same (as far as I can tell). This is, in my opinion the easiest way to get clean air. Please do an experiment on that, I'd like to see some nerdy numbers. So long and farewell from Germany
this has got to be the insanest experiment you've done so far! the amount of work you put on it is amazing, you've practically reverse-engineering the game's chemistry equations at this point I think the developers are learning from YOU how this works XD
You may have overlooked it but a water purifier drops polluted dirt. So it convert polluted water and sand into clean water and polluted dirt. Another method of using sand is by using deoderizers. These were changed in a recent update so now the conversion ratio is pretty good. Around 90%. And the cool thing about the loss is that you can use the conversion rate loss as a passive pump. However, the downside of deoderizers is that it turns sand into clay which isn't terrible useful but can be fed to hatches.
Actually if you let a Puft alone into a pO2 atmosphere in a couple cycles there will be almost vacuum and no slime. So slime decay must not be 1:1 (and I guess neither pDirt or pWater, it must be something more like 1:0,1 by the way Pufts are so efficient into creating vacuum)
That is completely not the case. Try going into debug mode and make a small sealed room. Put some PO2 in the room and a few pufts, and you'll see a never ending cycle. The volume of gas will drop as the slime outgasing rate is lower than pufts consumption but it will never ever become a vacuum. And if you at any point, barring a puft is just about to poop, the net weight of all slime and PO2 in the room is exactly equal to the amount of PO2 you put in the room in the first place. I have done this test multiple times.
OMG! You happened to stop scrolling through the comments to where mine is almost dead center. XD I'm ridiculously happy about this. I love your videos Brothgar! Even when I'm not in them :P
would it be efficient to have dups Rarely remove their eviro suits? Like if you had multiple station or just rigged it up so their rooms had were the only space getting constant Oxygen Would that save on gase management? In their suits they are resist to gases, sickness, and i think they have simple temperature resistance. So would the cost of having them in suits 90% of the time be worth the power, water, gas etc you would save From needing to keep the majority of the base Habitable? Essential creating SeaLab in space. if its Not , then this would make a decent challenge to see How many dups/ for how long would last like that
Hey Brothgar, love the videos. This game is my nemesis right now. Normal I can find 'that pattern' that scratches that itch, that lets me say 'ok, I've beat that game. O2NI not so much. I roll between Lucy's, CrypticFox's and your videos to help my troubled mind. So enough of the chitchat. Here is what I am working on and failing. (might not even be worth doing) CLEAN POOP water with LAVA HEAT using 1 pipe. The Pipe would use Liquid Bridges as check valves (not sure if they can even do this), drains, slosh tanks and that depth pressure switch you created using liquid to increase air pressure in a small chamber to allow the upper and lower pump to cycle on and off while not working against one another. My thinking 3 polluted water holding chambers, 1 poop (high germ content), one transfer/slosh tank, one return germ-free polluted water (temp?) - I am just having trouble keeping my dupes alive long enough to build it, as I am on a race against clean water.
Have you thought about using petroleum and the thermo aqua tuner to liquid cool oxygen. you can submerge the aquatuner in petroleum to keep it cool without damaging it and set up a cavity next to it cycling petroleum through it. petroleum has a very low freezing point so you don't have to worry about damaging the pipes from the liquid changing states. It also has a high thermal conductivity.
With the newest build (Occupation Upgrade) This is no longer doable. Mealwood now requires dirt to grow. However, in the new build if you have a steam geyser or natural gas geyser you can use the infinite water harvested from either one or both along with the glowbug things to produce sustainable bristle berries. You could then let them rot and follow this guide. IMO bristle berries are the new mealwood. Also, they generate more calories/cycle/plot and result in higher quality food and can be cooked into even better food :)
Morb produces far more PO than Mealwood. An easy and controllable way to spawn Morb is full outhouse. Dont empty the outhouse, leave it there few cycles it will spawn Morb. The outhouse keeps spawn Morb until you empty it. In my old game I use Morb and Puft to produce Slime for my Mushroom farm.
Sweep, Sweep, Sweep away! Just store the food away from the farm in a box together with a puff. The food goes out the box when the food decays, supplying the puff without sucking from the same source as the mealwood. That would seperate the two. Require ALOT of headwork with running but solve the problem with the mealwood. Alt use two gasses in the chamber, one for the mealwood like carbon dioxide that is heavy. So that the polluted oxygen goes up to a puff while the plants stay down in the safe. Best regards.
btw have you seen diamond yet? Seems to be he opposite of abysalite. thermal conductivity of 80! Didnt reach it yet but you could probably build tiles with it and get rooms that share temperature nearly 100% without any tricks you had to use all the time.
Hi, thanks for the interesting video! I know it has been a few days since you recorded this, but I was wondering if this spreadsheet you are using (around 10 min) is available for download somewhere. Just wanted to check before I do all the work myself.
I want to mention again, that you could use doors and dedicated job-settings to make Dubs run specific into the "farming" area and harvest Mealwood so it doesn't need to wait for "natural" drop and longer time for regrow. Yes this would need some labor, but when you think about a base with 50+ Dubs i think there is enough hands free, that doesn't need to run to generate power. Hmm actually i wanted to try out to make a blueprint of my own, but i didn't went through the whole progress ... still struggle with all the commands of the debugmode (actually how do you delete items on the ground without deleting structures like buildings/pipes/wires)? Anyway for some time now i was wondering about the dilemma that you can use switches to turn machines (like pumps) on or off at the moment the specific parameter is changing ... we need some sort of "memory" to create more complex automation. Put with some dwarven scie... i mean Dublican science i think there is a way to fix this ... I actually made an Album on Imgur with some commentary to explain my thoughts ... I hope it helps to understand what i have in mind imgur.com/a/9xHYo To give a short summary here as well. The Idea is to use switches as an input that we want to use to control and safe, lets say to say when a machine should start and when it should stop to work. To safe this we do not link the switches to the machine directly but gate it to tanks with water and pumps which start to work when the set amount is reached and what ever water-tank has more water in it then determines if the machine should work or not... this concept could done with Gas-tanks aswell but i like the idea of a liquid like water more, because it can be used for different ideas ... first of you could use the same system by using one of the tanks as gate to seal off Gases between different rooms only to open when so desired. Actually this concept could even be adjusted to capture the amount of power saved in batteries ... but the way i would do would cost at least one Dub that would have to run around all the time and be locked in this task. You make 4 tanks again two under each other and make the two top ones accessible from below via a door turned horizontal. On this doors you Manual Generator and next to it you place a hydro-switch. The Generators work as measurement what level of battery you want to start or stop a machine. Every time the set level of power is reached a Dub will run to the Generator ... open the door ... drops the water ... cancels the task with the Generator ... and leaves ... and closes the door again ... which activates the Generator again now working as an trigger as long as the power is below the set level. And with the water gone the hydro-switch turns off giving us a permanent signal to work with. Of course the water has to be caught below so the bottom tanks need mesh-tiles as a ceiling. Again a short picture but less description... imgur.com/NSUXZ4g Sadly I just came up with the idea and couldn't figure out the specifics about this, but i wanted to share the overall thought.
He would have to move the farms down, which is probably wants to anyway due to the pressure. This could be further improved, avoiding wet feet, by lining the floors with pneumatic doors on their side. The dupes can walk on the doors and pick up the slime through the doors (I believe)
I actually use a system of polluted water --> fertilizer maker --> hatch --> coal generator. Natural gas from the fertilizer maker is pumped to natural gas generators. Excess CO2 is pumped to slicksters, converting it to oil. Polluted air is pumped to pufts with some hatches under them. Only 'problem': I generate way too much coal.
Can you re-visit this topic now that we have all the automation technology? I'm curious to see how you would implement this into a real game or in your Automation Mega-Base.
I make a chamber that has 4 storage containers in it. set them to 9's and only hold polluted dirt and slime inside. then I put a deoderiser next to storage containers 1 and 4, and one in the roof area. I make this chamber in the middle of the base and in the upper wall area I put an air flow tile on both sides, this one chamber supllies most of the bases central oxygen needs, that is it make me less dependant on an algae farm and the basic toilet supllies the dirt to run it.... you want duplicant that need to go to the toilet more often to boost the polluted dirt production. another thing that is important is I only run one oxygen thingy to maintain base pressure, the duplicant pooping supplies the rest of the needed air.
Have you tried to experiment with phosphorus to see if we can create more ;) I think that would be interesting to see. Maybe it's not that the puft is in a bad place, but you restricted its space just a tiny bit and it needs more room, so it doesn't suck up all that p02
LOL all this for power for a lightbulb and some water and oxygen. That could then produce 2 or 3 bristle berries sustainably :P Wish the new patch didnt ruin that. Planting a TON of mealwood to then sustain bristle berries is kinda cool.
What resolution are you playing at? The window for paste template (where you select blueprints) is hanging off the bottom in my game and I can't actually read them
Hmm... I kind of wish they'd add something like a furnace... Place items and coal inside, and it produces CO2 and heat. No power needed, it would just need a duplicant to operate it, and building/tinkering could be the stat for it. Would be good for making sand, if they add glass to the game, or use it to produce steel and stuff. And a thermoelectric generator to take advantage of the heat that builds up in areas. :)
A conveyor belt would be cool too, but the only thing I could thing of for its use was before I thought of a furnace where dirt could be passed through a hot area and sand deposited on the other side so dupes wouldn't be exposed to the heat... but the furnace is a much better and simpler idea.
I noticed how everything in the game has a melting point, *everything* . So the first thing I thought was obviously could you melt Dupes ? Or other random stuff (mostly dupes tho)
Hey, loving the ONI videos and you've expanded my knowledge of the game so much, just wondering if there is any way we could download a copy of that excel file, id love to experiment and see me options in terms of converting and creating materials :) thanks so much, keep up the good work :D
Klei need to update/ add new type composter so it can turn unuse seed into a new resource Or use seed for breeding animals(hatch for meal lice seed / puft berry seed / pepper seed for flying light bulb / mushroom seed for slick
I had run to a really wierd bug yestarday. At day 150 my mealwood and all the rest of the food items stopped dropping by itself. I need to harvest everything manually because the food keeps being alive forever. So no such farms for me...
really like your channel. could you please make a viedo on Oil-NG power system. heating oil to produce petroleum, keep on heating to produce NG. cooling down NG then generate power, along with CO2. use slickster to consume CO2, turn to oil. so probably, it can be self sustainable. if so, it's really a very complicated system, requiring efficient heating & cooling. most important, a lot of math works of spreadsheet. ty
Have you ever considered to be some kind of engineer? I feel like ONI has so much potential to encourage people to get more in touch with this sort of science field like logistics, thermodynamics, environment care, production designs, solving dilemmas of resources available and potential outcomes. :)
Could you run a system like this off of poluted water? Every time I store poluted water somewhere closed off the poluted oxygen just keeps building up to many kilograms. I'm wondering how much it actually gives off and if it would be an effective source of poluted oxygen if you set up a system to process it into whatever.
I actually built a system like this, except I found a way to compress the water so that it did it faster. steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1171842889 In the column, I believe I stacked natural gas, oxygen, and hydrogen (I think anyway, it doesn't really matter). You can put as much polluted water in there as you want and get tons of polluted oxygen out of it, as the amount produced is proportional to the mass of the surface of the liquid (so if it is all surface, it will produce more) The only issue is polluted water appears to convert to polluted oxygen at a rate of 1:1 mass-wise, so you don't gain anything. However, you can put it through the puft again and get more slime, and get more algae. However, his system is more efficient per mealwood, as algae deoxidizers are less efficient. You are better off trying to clean it in some way and putting it through the electrolizer, which will turn 88.9% of the water's mass in to clean oxygen, as well as gaining energy as opposed to losing it (through hydrogen).
can you do a cooling system with crude oil? i have been using crude oil for cooling systems. it works much better and i can control how cold rooms are by using liquid wolframite pipes. (sorry for spelling). also just running polluted oxygen under tiles at -185 degrees C, which with the oil cooling system is really easy. consists of one thermal aquatuner and one pump. imgur.com/a/PvHVF here is an example of what ive been using it for and how i use it to cool my air cooling system. i ask if you can because maybe im not using it to its full potential?
man, I just love your vids, are you a researcher in real life ? you did not demonstrate that puffs transform poluted oxygen to slime at a ratio 1/1. you always forget to include externalities in your otherwise awesome calculations, like the heat generated, or the time that it takes your dupes to deliver stuff around, which is, to me, a high cost.
Yes, it's a one on one conversion. The converted amount depends on the volume of polluted water in the top tile. If you want maximum conversion: make sure the top tile is almost full capacity (around 800 kg's if i remember correctly)
Guess I'd want some clarity about what the 1:1 is. Does the water get used up(not what i've seen) or does it only convert clean oxygen to polluted(which is more likely).
Yes the polluted water gets used up. 1g polluted water get's you 1g polluted oxygen. Normally you wound't see the conversion very good since a tile of polluted water holds around 800Kg and atmospheric pressure is much lower, with the exception of those pwater puddles in the slime biome, which can go up to at least 175Kg and most likely even higher given enough time. Clean oxygen is not involved in any way.
you can test it out by creating a vacuum then painting is some polluted water, it doesn't produce any gas, but once you paint oxygen in, there will be polluted oxygen coming out, however i tested it a few updates ago so idk if it still works.
I saw "gold gas" in the list of possible materials, I wonder what color the game devs decided to make it? IRL gassious gold is a reddish purple color. (besides also being white hot)
Cody'sLab have you ever thought of doing a gaming channel
Any chance we'll see it on your channel any time soon? =P
Hi cody slab
Hey Cody
I'm so happy to know that Cody also watches Brothgar :D This game is SOOOO INTRICATE!!! It's insane, the level of detail the devs went into for this game.
You know a game is good when you need spreadsheets to play it optimally.
today on spreadsheet not included, Brothgar does math
Next update on ONI: Built-in spreadsheet processing lmao
Excel Spreadsheet - Brothgar DLC
mealwood->poluted dirt->compost->fertilizer->hatch->coal power->co2->poluted water->fertilizer maker->fertilizer(recycle)&natural gas->natural gas generator->co2(recycle)->poluted water(recycle) = closed, makes power from meal wood. can use natural gas generator poluted water for water generation and that to oxygen with electroliser +hydrogen generator.
I've watched every single one of your experiments and I still have zero understanding of how they work, even when I put them in my own base.
Thanks for helping out ONI scrubs like me :D

Uhm no? They convert PO2 into slime 1:1. And slime converts into PO2 1:1 if left alone.
what about rotten pile and poluted dirt? to they also decomponse into PO2 1:1?

I love how the fact you could power a light bulb literally gave you a light bulb moment.
I've only had ONI for a couple of weeks before the occupational upgrade, so Algae Distillers have always been Algae Distillers for me.

Hexical pfft. Try everyday
Not only you manage to avoid losing water/algea & power to feed an electroliser/deoxidiser, but you gain net water & power :DDDD Brilliant

Hello Brothgar, Love your 'Science 'videos. Is it possible for you to share your Excel Sheet ?
Love that tab : 'Why you no subscribe?'
10:30 "Why you no subscribe", But Brothgar ive already subscribed
Do you have a link to your spreadsheet?
Have you tried to experiment with phosphorus to see if we can create more ;) I think that would be interesting to see. Maybe it's not that the puft is in a bad place, but you restricted its space just a tiny bit and it needs more room, so it doesn't suck up all that p02
LOL all this for power for a lightbulb and some water and oxygen. That could then produce 2 or 3 bristle berries sustainably :P Wish the new patch didnt ruin that. Planting a TON of mealwood to then sustain bristle berries is kinda cool.
Where can we find the google doc you used?
if you're trying to produce plastic, just use a glossy drecko. maybe that's less efficient?
What resolution are you playing at? The window for paste template (where you select blueprints) is hanging off the bottom in my game and I can't actually read them
new challenge idea: Ice challenge, use the world gen settings of the debug mode and set it to Helicona
A conveyor belt would be cool too, but the only thing I could thing of for its use was before I thought of a furnace where dirt could be passed through a hot area and sand deposited on the other side so dupes wouldn't be exposed to the heat... but the furnace is a much better and simpler idea.
anyone know how to get instant build to work reliably? I've done the code fix, but whenever I hit shift f6 my game just crashes.
How do you spawn Hatches in the debug? I can't get the selection to change?
tvfreakman611 you have to find one in the wild, and make a blueprint of it
I had run to a really wierd bug yestarday. At day 150 my mealwood and all the rest of the food items stopped dropping by itself. I need to harvest everything manually because the food keeps being alive forever. So no such farms for me...
really like your channel. could you please make a viedo on Oil-NG power system. heating oil to produce petroleum, keep on heating to produce NG. cooling down NG then generate power, along with CO2. use slickster to consume CO2, turn to oil. so probably, it can be self sustainable. if so, it's really a very complicated system, requiring efficient heating & cooling. most important, a lot of math works of spreadsheet. ty
im getting advertisements about oxygen therapy now
Do you offer coach lessons ? :O
I AM ADDICTED TO ONI
Have you ever considered to be some kind of engineer? I feel like ONI has so much potential to encourage people to get more in touch with this sort of science field like logistics, thermodynamics, environment care, production designs, solving dilemmas of resources available and potential outcomes. :)
It's just as fun for us lowly technicians :D
I get the feeling I'm watching a "Copy of Copy of Copy of Copy of Copy of Copy of a Brothgar excel spreadsheet of science"
Noticed you have a folder BDO on your google chrome is this by chance for Black Desert Online?
awesome, what class you play and how long you been playing?
Could you run a system like this off of poluted water? Every time I store poluted water somewhere closed off the poluted oxygen just keeps building up to many kilograms. I'm wondering how much it actually gives off and if it would be an effective source of poluted oxygen if you set up a system to process it into whatever.
I actually built a system like this, except I found a way to compress the water so that it did it faster. steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1171842889
In the column, I believe I stacked natural gas, oxygen, and hydrogen (I think anyway, it doesn't really matter). You can put as much polluted water in there as you want and get tons of polluted oxygen out of it, as the amount produced is proportional to the mass of the surface of the liquid (so if it is all surface, it will produce more)
The only issue is polluted water appears to convert to polluted oxygen at a rate of 1:1 mass-wise, so you don't gain anything.
I'd love to see you turn it into plastic ;)
How do I do what u are doing
how does he have hose options o build what he wants?
Great test , interesting way to create oxygen :)
How do you go into the "Creative" Mode?
So, you now have basically all the data you need in order to figure out how many cents you have to pay per gram of X in oxygen not included.
How do you teleport the hatches?
Also morbs came out of my outhouse because my toilet had a high count of germs? can you test this?
How did he spawn a mob?
Excel - best game ever \o/
how get oxygen fast plzs repond thnxz
Would actually make this in a real game?
It'd take a few days to get this all done right maybe longer
If RimWorld and Terraria had a baby
can you do a cooling system with crude oil? i have been using crude oil for cooling systems. it works much better and i can control how cold rooms are by using liquid wolframite pipes. (sorry for spelling). also just running polluted oxygen under tiles at -185 degrees C, which with the oil cooling system is really easy. consists of one thermal aquatuner and one pump. imgur.com/a/PvHVF here is an example of what ive been using it for and how i use it to cool my air cooling system. i ask if you can because maybe im not using it to its full potential?
man, I just love your vids, are you a researcher in real life ?
you did not demonstrate that puffs transform poluted oxygen to slime at a ratio 1/1.
you always forget to include externalities in your otherwise awesome calculations, like the heat generated, or the time that it takes your dupes to deliver stuff around, which is, to me, a high cost.
no he did show the puff thing, starts around 4:00
oh yeah, i guess i missed it :(
awesome
"mehh Processing" xD
Does polluted water give off an infinite amount of polluted oxygen?
I've read some somewhere in the forum, that it is a 1:1 conversion.
Clean oxygen is not involved in any way.
to let you know the water purifier makes poluted dirt now too XD
polluted water also converts the oxygen that it touches into polluted oxygen
Mark Fu - Never seen such behavior in the game.
you can test it out by creating a vacuum then painting is some polluted water, it doesn't produce any gas, but once you paint oxygen in, there will be polluted oxygen coming out, however i tested it a few updates ago so idk if it still works.
Месье, это безумие.
Dirt is not endless, so th is is useless. Okay, you can transform it, but heat isnt endless also. :(
Hello brothgar
Brothgar I hope you are having a fantastic day... I am currently playing ONI as well
I don't use bathrooms... I need water
But I do have a steam geyser in my base
Hey Brothgar have you ever used Magma and Crude Oil to make Natural Gas? Check this out: imgur.com/a/eerg4 keep in mind this only took say 10 seconds.
Are you earning any money by streaming it? Pardon me for my ignorance..
Copy of Copy of Copy of Copy and so on 👍
damn i love your vids but fake laughing kills me, its like laugh tracks in sitcoms
copy of copy of copy, ... , of Oxygen not included .. XD
Your teeth are so shiny!!!!! How are they made of metal!!!!!??!??!??
How, are they made of metal
First
Your experiments in this game are awesome.
