"Hello, and welcome to my kickstarter. I am bringing you the Wiflower (copyrighted and trademarked), an innovative and new take on the common house plant! You just need to connect your pot to your wifi, give us all your important information for us to sell, and then the door containing the plant will open!"
6:15 IIRC, you *can* set the temperature of the tiles and the gasses and whatever else, without zapping all of them. You just need to uncheck the "Element" and "Mass" checkboxes in the cell painter window. You can also choose if you just want to hit tiles, or buildings (or both) using the "Cells" and "Buildings" checkboxes lower down.
You could potentially use a weezewort to regulate pressure if the difference isn't too high. or even use a column to vacuum out a gas and feed it back in at a lower temp like for your natural gas setup.
If you want to add some complexity you can add a high and low threshold. That what the door cycles less often. This would make the area fluctuate between two set temperatures, also potentially making it better for performance as the times the door has to change state, the fewer calculations need to happen. (Though this may only be noticeable on grandiose scales or in extreme speeds)
if somehow flower pot stays inactive for amount of time, wheezewort will drop from it and return to it's seed stage. if your automation system doesn't have a constant heating mechanic your duplicants may need to re plant them time to time. keep this in mind.
With systems so precise possible they can even get the "ideal temperature" and other things that were giving big bonuses in early, back into the game. Because just keeping these plants alive is not fancy enough for endgame. Managing the water and air pressure, the temperature of both, That was cool back then when it had a real impact on extra seed chance. Now that the farmer have this "extra seed" as skill effect, it could rather affect quantity of crops. Or even better generate seeds of other variations of plants with their own quality and needs. Some could be used on any recipe of their kind, while others would be really specific or even used in medecine instead. Different variation of a same recipe could affect different parts of the finished product (taste bad but a caloric bomb for the organism, decay slower, ect) As for the "ideal conditions" to be added to the compendium, the info in finished game could be unlocked similary to geysers research, but having seasoned farmer study an healthy plant in the wild. (I know we all use wikis nowdays...But it's gameplay flavor!) Same kind of "research" could be done somehow to unlock cooking recipes and variations infos with a new rank of Chef divided in two specialities ("gastronomy chief" and "pharmacist" respectively "cooking" advanced products) We need a "gastronomy upgrade" to add depth to why we bother with agriculture! And maybe we'll be able to grow a subspecie of balm lily that do not put the base under some fog of chlorine because of silly air management too...
I think you could use them in your plastic production to suck H across your polimer presses as if they were a pump, like you did at 5:10. One weese wort tube per press to move the H to keep them cold?
Hey, I think you should find a way to use a hysteresis to avoid too many jerk on the door: - At the minimum comfortable temperature set the door to open, - At the maximum comfortable temperature set the door to open. That would allow the door to move less frequently, which would be better I think.
Brothgar, you should always leave gas access on both sides of the door, otherwise you will be deleting gas. For the door you should include a filter gate to adjust the "flicker" timing of the temp sensor adjustment in the gas.
I always make a room in my base with a lot wheezewort, they go to -60 C and limit there, with radiant pipes and a temperature sensor I cool down my gasses/liquid.
Cool experiment Brothgar, thanks for it. Very useful. However, I think you had an editing error between 10:00 and 11:00, one of your segments got duplicated.
Heyo Brothgar! I recently came across Lifegrow's video in which he showed an automatic slaughter machine for excess animals, which leaves the meat in a convenient place (maybe an auto sweeper could pick it up). Just thought I'd tell you because you might find some use out of it for your ultimate automation challenge You could put a simple clock sensor that begins the oil deep fry process every night and fries for about 30-60 seconds. However, his design only handles the killing part, you'd have to figure out how to automatically move excess hatches into the slaughterhouse. Or you could just use "auto wrangle" setting on critter dropoff which relies on dupes manually moving the bagged animals.
This would be good to cool the whole base to the right temperature by pumping air in and out of this room. You could even use mechanized airlocks to pump the air through to make it take no power.
I just use gas shutoff valves to the rooms, yes it costs 10w per area but you can cool multiple areas with one thermal nullifier or weezewort, either by cooling the oxygen (that you will be pumping around your base anyways) or hydrogen running through radiant pipes. Just put a thermal sensor in the area hooked up to the gas shutoff to the vent or radiator when the room gets too cold.
What I'm thinking: set up two gas pumps on top of a room, next 4 layers are COMPLETELY dedicated to wheezeworts (2 for plant + pot + gas tile) and the next layer is empty, finally the last layer is all vents. When the base needs cooling, start pumping. One pump is dedicated to four parallel lines of AC, on each level of a regular build (where each floor has a uniform height, exceptions being manufacturing rooms and the farm)
So I noticed while you had the thermal overlay up that the dupes were quite hot compared to their surroundings. Do you know if dupes will gradually heat up an area? And if so, does the different clothes make any difference to that?
Could you build a cold room and then pump in air from one side of the base to cool it and then release the gas again at the other side of the base and create a nice cool breeze?
Brothgar! I have an idea. *No pause challenge.* The minimum speed is the normal play speed. Since you're used to 10+ speed just normal speed might seem like paused, but it gets harder when you're trying to plan things out
I don't think so. AFAIK you only delete gas volumes when the door has no open spaces nearby; the flowerpot doesn't count as a solid tile when it comes to gasses, so any gas within the open door should just get shunted up to the flowerpot cell
Sonitried to use the aqua cooler, but my aqua cooler gets so hot in seconds and my weezewort is cooling it pretty slow even when I added 3 of them in the room...any recommendations? Advice?
FLIR. The only problem I could see is that the temperature gauges cannot be low enough to detect if the ENTIRE room is too warm or too cold. Because of the mechanics of the Wheezewort, most warm gasses are going to be on the bottom and most cold gasses are going to be on the top. And I don't think they've implemented a type of meteorology wherein hot gas rises and cold gas sinks. It does however, at least balance out the temperatures in sealed rooms. The other problem with surrounding the wheezewort with doors is that you'd get temperature bleed-through if it was on its' own gas tile, instead of a door. Hah, it still costs power if you're running a 240W pump to Hydroponic Tiles. Well now I just want a second temperature update so we can work with plasma. Because water plasma is possible, at the core of an entire planet, that is.
Hey new to the game here. Is there a way to make an enclosed area with gas and wheezewort and keep the plant fertilized other than a water lock? I tried multiple doors but a lot of gas seeps out every time they go in to fertilize it. Can anything auto fertilize it or something?
Instead of wasting all of the potential of the wheezewort by turning it off. You could combine them all into a hydrogen Room run pipes into a closed room and automate the temperature of the liquid/gas in the pipe. In the end turning it off works great but think about everything else you could try to cool with the time the wheezewort are “turn off”
OK! so would a closed system of something like hyrdogen, and this system, be able to air condition a base? HOW much up scaling would that take? Meaning taking the closed room you started with, piping the cold air all around, and back into the room. Maybe a multichambered system? it'd probably have to be colder than 20 C but still, maybe worth looking into! LOVE your content my dude. Thank you!
Hey Brothgar, My duplicants can't seem to pass over the top of mechanized airlocks. The system works in theory, but how will a farmer collect the bristle berries?
Brothgar, is it possible to make a water cooling station and water tank in your base using weezworts in the automation update? I know it may have been done already but it might be handy having a massive heat sink in your base.
Possibly, but it'd be tricky. You might need to use a radiant loop to isolate the two areas, since wheezeworts turn back into seeds at like 5 degrees C
Fun Fact: If you leave a Wheezewort seed on a material, such as dirt or sandstone, it will grow! I don't know what materials they grow on, how long it takes to grow, if it'll grow on buildings, etc.
So you want to complicate it? - put two thermal sensors and hook them on a gate for larger rooms, to get more even temperature over the room. Just a thought, didn't try it actually :D .
sure.. but if those doors stay shut too long, you'll probably have to replant the Wheezewort.. but since you don't lose your seed, it's not really problem :D .. and I bet they'll patch that after they see this :D
Why did temperature can be lower than 20°c, I doing the same put H in the area and plant wheezworth it can not be lower than 20°c at all. Im using wheezworth plantation to control temperature of my base controling the air way to regulate temperature,it cost a lot of space LOL

Oh wow! Exactly what I needed for my base just at the right time! Thank you ~~

man, mission accomplished! Very simple solution that you made more attractive in your placement in the farm. Blends right in!
that scene loop at 10:30 :D
For a second I thought I lost my mind

That was quick.
Early lunch for Brothgar!

Dang it. Brothgar, you found a way to even automate wheeze-warts!! You’re awesome!

Could probably use a timer to run an override circuit, forcing the door to cycle on and off every 300s or something like that
3:39 rip headphone users. Crazy audio bug...
That's his Automation Signal, it lets him know things are Automatic.

This was so easy compared to your other automated systems, but I still wouldn't have figured it out on my own lol
"i gotta find a way to complicate this" I KNEW IT, you are complicating things on purpose! ^_~
Dayum so many smart people here, and we all didn't think about this till now 😱!
Genious! And simple!

Good job on the automation so far brothgar!
this is genius
This makes me very happy
Was trying to figure out away to lower water tempature to kill germs. I think that idea may work with it also
that is awesome.. because my farms always end up getting too warm and this is just, great!
Brothgar, you should always leave gas access on both sides of the door, otherwise you will be deleting gas. For the door you should include a filter gate to adjust the "flicker" timing of the temp sensor adjustment in the gas.

A gas pump for every 4 blocks wide the setup is, rounding up.
Thats truly awsome!
THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!
8:05 Thats pretty neat!
Amazing brothgar
Simple and useful! Thanks!
Brilliant!
So I noticed while you had the thermal overlay up that the dupes were quite hot compared to their surroundings. Do you know if dupes will gradually heat up an area? And if so, does the different clothes make any difference to that?
Power wise is it better to set a interval so door wont open close every second ?
I can imagine using 2 temp sensors and one AND port
Could you build a cold room and then pump in air from one side of the base to cool it and then release the gas again at the other side of the base and create a nice cool breeze?
that was just awesome...
The moment when the "zing" happens: 6:50
Hahahaha great idea!
How does the door open without power? Is it magic or what?
wait.. what.. Brothgar.. how did you not know about this being a thing..
..OH i mean WOW nice find Brothgar ;)
Me: oh look a new vid by Brothgar!
(Clicks on vid) (RUclips crashes)
Me: nice
Have you tried making a thermal gradient of hot to cold in your base? Keep hot in the upper parts while the cold on the bottom?
Hello, I need help.what happen if in my seed I have a golden volcano on the spawn area?
He did it. He made an automated flowerpot! What can be better?
Brothgar! I have an idea. *No pause challenge.* The minimum speed is the normal play speed. Since you're used to 10+ speed just normal speed might seem like paused, but it gets harder when you're trying to plan things out
In the bristle blossom example, does the mechanized door delete some of the CO2?
I don't think so. AFAIK you only delete gas volumes when the door has no open spaces nearby; the flowerpot doesn't count as a solid tile when it comes to gasses, so any gas within the open door should just get shunted up to the flowerpot cell
Sonitried to use the aqua cooler, but my aqua cooler gets so hot in seconds and my weezewort is cooling it pretty slow even when I added 3 of them in the room...any recommendations? Advice?
I'm shocked. Cheers!
This will help a lot! I wonder what else can be automated using an automated airlock. The possibilities :D
FLIR.

Because water plasma is possible, at the core of an entire planet, that is.

Do you plan to automate meteor ? It's a free source of iron
brilliant
That's so cool!

Its cool, but I only have one question. Was it too simple for you to think of before??
Or were you too busy PLA-ying around?
Won't the carrot die if the doors are left open too long?
Jacek Krawczyk Ooh good question.
Jacek Krawczyk Updoot
well.. it will just drop the seed and you can replant it... but I don't think it will be problem with setup like this
I've never had it happen, but if it becomes an issue you could hook up a timer to cycle the door every so often so the plant doesn't die.
Carrot what carrot i see no carrot... do you guys see a carrot?
Welp now I know how I can start cooling down my base with out having to struggle to get an air and water cooling loop going!
OK! so would a closed system of something like hyrdogen, and this system, be able to air condition a base? HOW much up scaling would that take? LOVE your content my dude. Thank you!
i love watching ONI videos especially about these kind of things. But i cant implement it and have fun with it ahaha
So simple!
Hey Brothgar, My duplicants can't seem to pass over the top of mechanized airlocks. The system works in theory, but how will a farmer collect the bristle berries?
Perhaps you can use a "catwalk" with ladders above your plants so the farmer can still reach them
*UPDATE*
I just moved the doors 1 tile up so the bottom is flush with the bottom of the farm tiles. DUH!
Brothgar, is it possible to make a water cooling station and water tank in your base using weezworts in the automation update? I know it may have been done already but it might be handy having a massive heat sink in your base.
Guy from the Internet probably exactly like this with a radiator setup
Genius! Now I just wish wheeze were more accessible.
There's 8 on my current seed in the closest cold biome, which is nearly touching my temperate zone.
Oh no. I want to play again now.
Wouldn't the door closing possibly delete CO2?
Genius...!
Would it be possible to use this to cool down and condense geysers automatically?
Possibly, but it'd be tricky. You might need to use a radiant loop to isolate the two areas, since wheezeworts turn back into seeds at like 5 degrees C
Why not use the heat gun to set the temperature?
Fun Fact: If you leave a Wheezewort seed on a material, such as dirt or sandstone, it will grow! I don't know what materials they grow on, how long it takes to grow, if it'll grow on buildings, etc.
lol Automated wheezewort?!! Niice!
I refuse to build mechanized airlocks around my base as flower arranging props!
Fun Fact: If you leave a Wheezewort seed on the floor, it will soon grow, at least on raw sandstone, I haven't thoroughly tested it before.
pip
Ahhhh deja vu i swear you told me this twice in a row lol..
are gases better for cooling than liquids?
Michael Carter nope. That why Brothgar use crude oil to make a cooling loop.
perfect
i have an idea for another challenge.... how about a three speed no pause challenge?
So you want to complicate it? - put two thermal sensors and hook them on a gate for larger rooms, to get more even temperature over the room. Just a thought, didn't try it actually :D .
wheezeworts for an electrolyzer setup? you will cool the oxygen and hydrogen and also make a low pressure area around the electrolyzer.
You're a genius xD
i do the same thing to cool down my water
Can you generate energy from a normal base's waste heat? (With a steam turbine?)
he did some experiments with the steam turbine and not even by exploiting lava it really was worth it
Wow. This is unreal.
I gotta find a way to complicate this! Hahahaha!
Heyy, upload this to patreon google disk, please
well it should be easy to have the door on its side and control two at a time
I always thought Wheezeworts had a Temperature Limit, like, they'd stop working at too high of Temperatures, I have been proven wrong...
Hmmm Ok thats look like an OP way to cool your farm
sure.. but if those doors stay shut too long, you'll probably have to replant the Wheezewort.. but since you don't lose your seed, it's not really problem :D .. and I bet they'll patch that after they see this :D
Hey Brothgar I just got Oxygen Not Included and I don't know how to destroy stuff instantly in sandbox mode
Why did temperature can be lower than 20°c, I doing the same put H in the area and plant wheezworth it can not be lower than 20°c at all.
Im using wheezworth plantation to control temperature of my base controling the air way to regulate temperature,it cost a lot of space LOL
Brothgar make a wheezewort pump.
10:08 and 10:35, it is repeated.
