Question, can you build a Polymer press on a floor, then replace the floor underneath it (and one tile to the right) with a door? Will it still function whilst the door is closed? Whilst it is open? If it does function while it is closed, you could sync the door do the plastic production, and cause the plastic to drop into an automated conveyor that will transport the plastic to a cooler environment to prevent it from melting (perhaps have active cooling pipes run through the conveyor to keep the air in it cold for the plastic, and use less energy consuming cooling mechanisms to keep the press functional)
So, the strategy is when you want to excavate a large mass of land, you would first build this at the very bottom of the dig site, and use ladders to dig out the whole area, so that as you work, everything is being shuffled into one spot. Then, if you're working above your target storage facility, you dig the pit down (this could be done before), or you build the elevator to move the mass upward. You could do both legs together, but it's probably situational depending on how much material you have for doors, and where you're digging versus where your duplicants are coming from. If the material moves up one to the side and then falls when it's transported horizontally, then does that mean that you could also move things at a diagonal?
What you need is a 2bit counter and an decoder that makes sure that there's always a place where the material/liquid/gas can go. That way you have an actual moving compressor/conveyer/elevator. I've already described it working here forums.kleientertainment.com/topic/83723-useful-automation-gadgets/?tab=comments#comment-971642 The way it works is that there's always two doors side-by-side open and two doors side-by-side closed. For example, AB closed and CD open. At the next tick A open and C close. Next tick B open and D close and at the final tick before it resets back to original position C open and A close. So if you have a long line of them it will be a continuous moving opening and closing row of doors. That is a the real way to do it.
I can see the use of the timerblock now! In your fertilizer maker room/natural gas plant just open all the doors under the machines once every cycle, making the fertilizer drop to an area dupes can reach. Will require a system to keep the Natural Gas from escaping the room. Maybe a conveyor at the bottom of the room going from right to left with a naphta lock at the end where (hopefully) all the fertilizer will drop and a door above the last one of the conveyor that opens briefly to let the Natural Gas back in the fertilizer maker room. All of this triggered by the timer block and set up with buffergates so it only but automatically runs once every cycle. You could pretty much do this in any factory setup, given the rest of the factory conditions are stable and handled. Still trying to think of a good way to set up a plastic factory and handle the steam and heat waste properly.
you just made what I was attempting before work. The trick at the end can also be used for the peppers. Doors to drop them right on to cooking stations never requiring you to move them. I think this same trick might work with basic farms and meal lice.
Yay! Conveyors! The last remaining question in this is "Can you do this such that gas does not leak through?" If you need this stuff in your base (say, a planter box farm that your dupes are too lazy to harvest themselves), you could have the stuff dumped in to a water lock or maybe a petroleum lock that your dupes have access to. But can you easily dump fertilizer in to a furnace to get sand without contaminating the furnace with bad gasses, then get the sand out? EDIT: Yes! You can! You can use something like the mechanical water pushing airlock from your airlock video to vacuum the chamber, removing the gasses! If there is magma in the furnace, you can use an elevator to move the magma and wand up, then to the side over a mesh tile where the magma can drain away, thus leaving you with sand! You can have pipes with water or oil in them behind the doors to try to cool the sand for use in the base.
This game Needs actual Conveyors ... with that i mean Vaccume Tube Conveyor Systems. On one side you have a Pump (Wich sucks air out of the Tube and across the entire system you have diffirent junctions and such wich allow for air to move in an odd way though those tubes (Automation would be Required) and at some places you have Suction Docks wich pick up items from the ground or Machineries and at some other Paces you have Placement Docks wich Place Items in Machineries and/or Drops them onto the ground. And ofcause for those Processes speciaized Storage and Sorting units and even some more specalized machines like a Biomass-Former wich could be used to make Food (Biomass AmmounX + EnergyX + GasX + LiquidX = Food GoopX/ Food? etc.) And to top it all off, have Auto-Dupes wich a Robo Dupes wich a real basic Ai for Fixing and Manning those Machines.
Here’s an idea. Combining the liquid elevator with the air lock stuff in your earlier vid might make things work. Using a liquid chamber above the center of the airlock system would force any gas that follows the dup up in to the chamber the liquid was in. Then, after closing the door between the gas and liquid let the liquid drop in to another chamber to create a vacuum around the dup before they leave. Could this work?
Deodorizers, pincha peppers, machiles like plastic maker one, all of that can be put into horizontal doors and open every X time so it falls into a conveyor belt and then it all ends at your storage room hahaha, amazing!
Would it be possible to do a super storage system? For example, fill up a storage container to get everything in one spot, then drop all items from it into a conveyor to take it to a "storage room", then have a request input to pull all the items from the storage room back down for duplicants to have access to. I dunno, might be neat
Okay only possible in debug but i have an idea. Put a row of doors on each side just above lava and slowly debug dig everything over time that you can. Use this elevator and many many storage blocks to see how much of everything is on a map. You might crash a few times.
For fertilizer better use Pneumatic Door instead Airlock - don't need to open time by time. And for water transporting you need open 2 bottoms horizontals airlocks earlier than now.
I wonder if they'll end up including an actual item logistics system. Being able to automatically pick up and move items would be amazing, particularly for things like say the Fertilizer farm you end up with from the natural gas generators.
The last time I tried the elevator, we could not go lower than 1s for the buffer and filter gate. Maybe now, with 0.1s interval, I could make it work. Will give it a try tonight to see if it works and send you some pictures if it does. Because as you saw, you cannot force the duplicant to move sideway with a door. But I found a way to fix this (hoping it still works with the last update of course).
It seems that you can pick only 0.1 OR 1s. Values between the two are not selectable, even with direct input (they either go down to 0.1 or up to 1). It is a shame as the duplicant get stuck with 0.1 (doors close too fast) or they are climbing up by themselves with 1 (too slow).
This reminds me of terraria. You can basically do the same things there too. Moving items around, making mechanical airlocks or even calculators. You name it. Neat to see such a large variety in possibilities for machines.
I have an idea for a challenge, get a duplicant and make it always idle.If that duplicant dies, game over.also try to keep it below 10% stress at all times
That's how I made my ice maker. Water drips onto the tops of doors in a cold hydrogen room, turns to ice. Once a day, the doors open and drop all the ice on the floor, then the door stack pushes the ice into a room that reseals and becomes accessible once the hydrogen has been pumped out.
Could you somehow drip water into a door space, freeze it, move the ice using conveyors to your base where it cools your base down, turns back into water then drips back into the door at the beginning?? Infinite air con?
Fertilizer, really? What about a plastic lift to get all your delicious plastic out of the super heated magma zone that oil likes to be in contact with? It'd save your duplicants a long trip.
MAS SCIENTIST EPISODE! This was really cool, and a neat look into how the physics of the game works. It's interesting that it takes the speed of the game into account too. Maybe it simply can't recalculate fast enough to keep up with the speed increase? Suddenly my game chugging at times makes way more sense lol. I feel like if you even partially enclosed the system it would work as a water conveyor just fine. Maybe add a few blocks on the left above the doors and see if you can get it to pump out that way. I see you've found a way to automate hatch feeding, excellent!
To elaborate on the hatch feeder: the fertilizer maker sits on the doors which periodically opens to drop the fertilizer to waiting hatches. We know hatches won't go beyond naphtha doors if they don't have something to stand on, and they don't require oxygen to survive, so its safe to have them in an air locked chamber of whatever producing coal. Dupes can come up a ladder just to the side of the naphtha lock, hold their breath long enough to collect the coal (or just be in a suit!), then escape with their carbon goodness to go feed the coal generators, which in turn feed slicksters, which make oil, which is then super heated to natural gas, which then feeds the fertilizer maker, which in turn feeds the hatches... Closed loop with (I think?) no waste and potentially a power gain? Might have enough spare oil to use for plastics too.
now find a way to transport the fertilizer or whatever out of a closed system without gasses (for example NG) going through out of the system into your base. Maybe try to find a way to let the gasses vent out through the top while moving the item through a liquid or naptha gate?
Anyone else notice a memory leak with build 241659? My last game was up to around 11GB after playing for several hours (up from cycle ~50 to 81) when the last build I used, 236679, stayed at around 1.5GB.
What if you made an automated hatch farm in which the material is conveyed in through the roof on to a clock activated door in the hatch area. The clock would only open the door when the hatches are burrowed. With a working system you can have completely autonomous coal farming!
The dupes would never even have to see the hatches. Only thing you would have to worry about is uneaten material getting through. The amount of material going in would have to be monitored or limited somehow. I should start doing some experimenting myself lol.
I can't imagine the lag soon. I wonder what will happen if a dupe is trying to get a resource that is in some conveyer loop. I imagine most of the lag is dupe/pathfinding/resource tree finding and gas/liquid movement processing lag so I wonder how it will interact with it all.
The right only conveyor can be made a lot more simply, use a Weight Plate under a door to create a simple clock then with a Not Gate and some wire you have a super simple conveyor. I am curious what other uses there are for a simple clock as I feel there are many Image: imgur.com/a/TrIpD
well, you know, I wasn't expecting to, but the intros are something I'm starting to look forward to... "how is he going to introduce his video this time?" Also... I have so many ideas for this :D doors to each side of what I want to excavate and stack all the resources... easy cleanup :D
Brothgar! Thought about this exact same idea when I saw the items. I knew I should have pushed my 'vators to you, dang it. You'll want to start moving liquids, not items or dupes. Specifically, a massive tank that can extract water to other smaller tanks in the base by compressing the tank enough for the "tubes" to grab water, and then the main tank relaxes. Also, check twitter and youtube PMs. ;)
the torture devices you could build now. LOL Maze running ... oh tap door opens magma, boiling old drops out etc. The ceiling or ground opens with lots of morb release huge amount of gas or gallows. later dupes. that'll teach dupes like Travaldo The Undertaker
"It's totally elevating!" :)
18:40 You could use a liquid(near-boiling water) for sanitizing whatever you're transporting, to get rid of germs on it.
Question, can you build a Polymer press on a floor, then replace the floor underneath it (and one tile to the right) with a door? Will it still function whilst the door is closed? Whilst it is open? Couldn't you create a makeshift automatic ore scrubber by using a hot liquid in that conveyor system?
I literally thought the same thing.
All these freight elevators, and your videos still raise me up.
And the creative intros continue. Loving it.

Biffa: Strategy, Survival & Indie Games Nice
It’s Biffa! Fancy meeting you here.
Biffa: Strategy, Survival & Indie Games hiiiiiiiii love your vids

And now we got auto sweepers and conveyor rails! A visionary

Love the first seconds item : )
u could improve the belt system by using pulses every 3 doors so u can move materials faster
Meybe you can use the liquid wave thing to make a buffer gate without buffer gate :D
These intros are priceless!!👍

Awesome!! You've got yourself a Fertilizer Dump. 1 More day before the Next Update!!

The start is just perfect. Keep doing that xD
Make a garbage chute into lava?
"I see you reaching for that keyboard..." Yep I was! :D
Idk why you do the thing that you do at the start of every clip but it always catches me off guard and makes me laugh so thank you and keep doing it !
Nice try on dupe elevator ☺ like the convayer belt idea might come in handy clearing the floor of materials
I have an idea for a challenge, get a duplicant and make it always idle.If that duplicant dies, game over.also try to keep it below 10% stress at all times
Isn't the issue with the liquid just that it's got room to move above? Surely sticking a ceiling on the conveyor's would allow them to move liquid?
That's how I made my ice maker. Water drips onto the tops of doors in a cold hydrogen room, turns to ice. Once a day, the doors open and drop all the ice on the floor, then the door stack pushes the ice into a room that reseals and becomes accessible once the hydrogen has been pumped out.
But the real question is, can it move the dead?
FULLY AUTOMATED POOP HARVESTER!
The hero we need
so can you use doors to delete dead duplicants or do they hold doors open as well?
Awesome vid!
What a beautiful book clap! 👏 👏
Brilliant!
"All you Factroio players are going love this...", I watch a lot of RUclips videos, including these as background noise while I play Factroio...
automated fertiliser collection???
Could prevent the need for atmo suits and liquid locks when generating fertiliser
Awesome!!
Note: x o r gates are literally the letter x concatenated to or, meaning exclusively or, hence why you should pronounce it eks or,not eks oh arr.
2:39 The good ol' 74LS86 Gate.
Could you somehow drip water into a door space, freeze it, move the ice using conveyors to your base where it cools your base down, turns back into water then drips back into the door at the beginning?? Infinite air con?
hmm.. getting better and better

Easy, push the items into a room with a pump, seal the room, and make the room a vac.
huh, yeah well ... makes sense

And... what for? There is a lot things a realy needed, but you made time to time most usefulless of them. Thank you.
what can we do with water systems + automation?
10:28 this game could benefit of a dropdown menu, especially now that we have automation.
great vid man, but when do we get more megabase?
New here. Are these vids useful in legitimate survival or just fun experiments?
You should find some coconut halves to clap together.
I wouldn't expect Pneumatic doors to transport stuff, they allow gas and liquids through after all.
Nice!
that liquid thing on the top of the circular belt... would make a neat decorative fountain... =D splish, splash.
Oh yeah, you earned my subscription, man!
wait if it can work flooded maybe it can work burrowed and like move the undug sand around

That would be funny to watch, but I think you could make the conveyor inaccessible to dupes.
a book this time..... i wonder how crazy it will get
You did earn it ! You mad brain
Pray for the book xD nice vid
nice vid!
Gotta admit, the first 20 times you "clicked" when opening your videos, it was weird. But .. this one made me laugh!

In that system, you could save a tiiiny amount of resources by lowering some of the top wires by a bit.. Just an observation.
How beastly is your pc? How many frames it runs max? And at min?
How did u get the debug thingy
You did earn my subscription
finally a way to supply my hatches
This game just became minecraft with its circuitry and logic gates used for elevators... aah, good times
I'd rather use that last idea for the plastic!
so fertilizer maker resourse droper
well, you know, I wasn't expecting to, but the intros are something I'm starting to look forward to... "how is he going to introduce his video this time?" Also... I have so many ideas for this :D doors to each side of what I want to excavate and stack all the resources... easy cleanup :D
Next update better be a factorio update :D, jokes beside, I would wish myself a bit more to Explore, or some kind if goals
So next: how to automate pufts
Now submerge the whole thing in lava. Iron ore falls down. Doors bring smelted iron back up.
Noice brogar
Almost complete fetlizer automation
Brothgar appears to have made a water and maybe a gas destroyer system.
He has already made one before, just use a bunch of doors to get the gas/liquid inside them, then close the doors from the edges to the center
:0
W- oh there we go
There's the dupe test
Yes
Brothgar! Thought about this exact same idea when I saw the items. I knew I should have pushed my 'vators to you, dang it. You'll want to start moving liquids, not items or dupes.

Slap toast together for your intro? XD
And then in a fes days conveyors are added then you are thinking damnit
put one automatic door door on the top
the torture devices you could build now. LOL
Maze running ... oh tap door opens magma, boiling old drops out etc. The ceiling or ground opens with lots of morb release huge amount of gas or gallows. later dupes.
that'll teach dupes like Travaldo The Undertaker
They need to add a piston block or sticky piston like minecraft. imagine the possibilities....
jesus, im sorry buy these intro's are getting better by the day :D
*clap* great episode :D
ok heres a challenge Make music using this!
I'm not gonna lie, the intro thing... it's growing on me..
What next? Will you drop cat on the desk?)))
closing the book... on the meme
How do you do, fellow kids?
Now, THROW THE HEADPHONES TO SYNC THE SOUNDS :)
