    WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SAY?
    The interviewer wants to know about your working habits, whether you’re reliable, and what you have accomplished in the past. Focus on your experiences and accomplishments that are most relevant to the position.
    Keep in mind that the interviewer is not asking for a full-length biography. It’s safe to keep the answer around 2 to 3 minutes.
    At the same time, you want to show that you know what the company does and that you have an idea what the company is looking for. Make sure you do a quick Google search and look for recent headlines in the news. Use this information to choose which accomplishments to highlight, and try to present them in a way that is similar to the job description.
    BREAK IT DOWN
    When answering the question, highlight the following:
    1. Education & Experience
    2. Highlight Most Important and Relevant Accomplishments
    3. Drive, Energy, and Motivation
    If you highlight your education, relevant accomplishments, and your drive, you show that you can be a great fit for both the role and the organization.
    LASTLY
    Be sure to practice this answer over and over again. It is a really important question that can make or break the interview. It’s your first impression, and you want it to be as effective as possible.
    Sell what the interview is buying. Be interested and fit your experience with what they are looking for.
    Finally, be brief. Think of this as a movie preview. You want to hook the interviewer in by briefly highlighting aspects of yourself that the interviewer will find most appealing.

    I have something to add, It's generally a good idea to change your answer based on the job that you're trying to get.
    I got it from another video and apparently alot of people tend to screw it up.

    This is not the average person though, unless they are supposed to lie to get the job. What if you DIDN'T lead in sales... what if you DIDN'T invent anything, etc.. The avg person will not have much or any accomplishments.... at least recently.

"I saved a family, 3 children, and a priest from a burning house." smh... we could all have those stories if we wanted to lie about it.

    • @angelgodplace

      You probably have accomplishments that show your worth to the company, maybe projects you did in college or in your daily life. If you didn't why would the company want you then? It's not like you have an interest in what they work on if you never showed any interest by dedicating some of your time to it.

    Hello, thank you for the tips. It's a very helpful clip. I was wondering, do you guys have some advice about this question "tell me a bit about yourself" BUT for a profile that shows some gaps and career changes? Many thks.

    • @Vyten
      @Vyten  8 лет назад

      +David Tapia Hi David, it depends on your personal situation. Gaps and career changes are not necessarily a bad thing if you can speak to them. If you have gaps to raise family, further your education, or to gain different experiences... all of these could potentially help you with your next career change.

      +Inaba Himeko Make sure to highlight what your passions are! Sometimes accomplishments don't take form in leadership positions. Involvement in volunteer and community groups are a great way to show potential and drive without formal experience.

      I see. I have done some volunteering in my nephews autism school but i find that to be quite irrelevant with becoming an IT Engineer. Still it could be nice as a way to express my passion and drive like you said. Thank you i will try that in about 1 year i hope. I recently managed to get my first job with IT Tech Support and it has been very nice but tiring as well(being and adult sucks btw). I have alot to thank you for as this video really helped me. What's the difference between "tell me about yourself?" And "Why should we hire you?"

    • @Vyten
      @Vyten  8 лет назад +2

      +fatalradius Tell me about yourself typically takes place at the start of an interview and is intended to be a high level summary. Why should we hire you would likely come at the end of the interview, if you're asked this, it's an opportunity to close the sale! This would be when you reinforce key points and wrap up with any key qualifications that you may have missed or not had an opportunity to share.

    Good stuff. Only thing is 2-3 minutes is too long. You only have 30 seconds attention from the interviewer. Anyhing beyond that and interviewer starts snoozing. Your example in the video is only 30 seconds too.

    You use the class president as an example, but what about us normal people who are just trying to get our foot in the door?

    • @Vyten
      @Vyten  9 лет назад +1

      ***** Hi Jordan. Examples should put your best foot forward based on your activities and experience. If you were involved in any student organizations, it's okay to say that you were an active member in the organization. Talk about any type of contributions you made to the group. Even if you didn't have an official title, but worked on or led a project or event, this could still be a great example to use as well! Feel free to email me at vincent at vyten dot com.
