  • I get asked questions on how to set up and sight in a fast eddie XL. So I wanted to show you how I do it, which includes sighting in the 3rd pointer.
    Garrett Weaver from On Point shows you how he sights in his Spot Hogg Fast Eddie XL Trifecta.

    Just what I needed!! I’ve had the fast Eddie XL for a year now and love it. I did not however, have it sighted in this way, nor did I flip the “L” bracket. I can’t wait to set up my new arrows this way. Thank you sir! Continued success!!

    Great video. I have a carbon defiant and a 2 pin fast eddie. I use #13 tape also. I like to practice at 100 and haven't and any issues. Last year one time the top fletch hit the site housing, arrow blew up and scared the crap out of me. I'm a little leary now to try again without turning the top fletch down. What do you recommend as far as clearance at 100 yards from the arrow to the bottom of the housing. I just had chris string and tune the bow and mentioned it to him but we never shot outside his shop. I'm going to re due the 20 and 60 tape and see if I'm still at 13 again.

      I’ll do that as I’m sighted in and have some hills to shoot on. You can also do it at home and just use the corner of a wall and aim up and down the wall lining up the wire with the corner.

    It’s probably just my OCD to small details but I feel like the tape gauges they send along aren’t precise enough so I just cut the sticky top off a post-it note and put that on my wheel and make fine line pencil marks for the 20 and 60. The post-it peels back off super easy and then line up the pencil marks to the proper sight tape. Great video!

    Do this sport Hogg fast Eddie 3,5 or 7 pin have to leveled? I’m new at archery and I’m planning on buying one of this sights and I’ve seen other videos of sights where 2nd and 3rd axis have to be leveled. Like I said I’m new at this so this might be a silly question. Thanks.

    Thanks for Sharing this. I’ve set my Hoyt RX1 up with the trifecta and love it!!!!
    I’ve set mine up for the max long range. The only problem I’m having is finding a sight tape that can keep up!! The Spot Hogg tapes just go to 90 yards. I’m running out of tape long before running out of adjustment. Is there anywhere that makes long range sight tapes so I can play out to 150 yards or further?
    I think if you practice and get good groups at 130 or 140 yards that should make those 50 and 60 yards hunting shots more realistic and achievable. Thanks again Garrett for sharing this wonderful idea.

    • @garrettweaver6605
      @garrettweaver6605  5 лет назад

      Funny too ask I edited a part out of the video because I didn’t think people would care, I cut waaay below the sight tape bottom where is just white tape. Then you can make your own marks.
      Another tip I’ve thought about, is taking a slower sight tape that matches my bottom of the sight tape on my dial and using that to continue my drop. It should work thinking about it but I’ve never actually tried it

    • @booneman4ever
      @booneman4ever 5 лет назад

      Garrett Weaver I did notice in the video that you had extra tape beyond the yardage marks. I did the same thing but nothing like having the yardage marks figured in for you. It sure does make it a little easier to concentrate on form alone. I’ll have to do some playing with that slower type idea that’s pretty interesting. Thanks

    Garrett, Ive done the trifecta and love it! However, I’m gonna go with a heavier arrow next season so correct me if I’m wrong but all I should have to do is put a calibration tape on, shoot at 20 & 60 yards and apply a new tape everything else should fall into place without having to touch the actual pins...correct?

      Great questions. I’m a hunter first, so I like the ability to have multiple pin but also like the accuracy of an adjustable. This is why I use the 3 pin adjustable with 3 pointers. It’s in my opinion the most versatile sight I’ve used and allows for me to shoot 0-60 without dialing, but also get extreme accuracy at odd ranges

    So, by sighting in all 3 pins at 20 yards on the tape (I.e rolling the dial) you must end up with odd pin spacing. Meaning, when using top pin at 20 yards, the other two might be at 33 and 51 yards ( depending on bow speeds and pin set up). Why not set up the 3 pins st conventional yardages (i.e 20, 30, 40)? Wouldn’t the sight tape still work for the other pins?

    • @garrettweaver6605
      @garrettweaver6605  5 лет назад

    Hey Garrett, you have done a video on nock indexing but I didnt see one of just bareshaft tuning. What steps do you take first. Papertune, Bareshaft, then nock/spine index? Also would you say the spine indexing is necessary with a axis pro arrow being a good tolerance?

    • @garrettweaver6605
      @garrettweaver6605  5 лет назад

      For me the nock indexing and shooting though paper is the bareshaft tuning.
      I make sure my bow is setup properly already shooting bullet holes prior to the bareshaft tune.
      Your question on the match grade axis is a really good question. Answer is that yes I still nock index and spin test them. Having said that I will say that it becomes less of a factor with the higher tolerances of the setup. For example if a regular batch of axis maybe 10 would shoot good without needing any extra tuning with broadheads. The match grades maybe 11-12 will shoot with broadheads without needing extra tuning.

  • @adammehlenbacher4025
    @adammehlenbacher4025 5 лет назад +1

    I am confused a little on why you do the “trifecta”. If you sight in the 3 pin sight so that they are 10yrds apart ie 20, 30, 40 wouldn’t the pins retain that interval as you change the dial? So if you dial the 20 pin out to 50 the next would be at 60 and 70. I just bought this sight and it has not arrived yet, just curious.

    • @garrettweaver6605
      @garrettweaver6605  5 лет назад

      Great question, the answer is no. It’s a common misconception that distances between the pins remains the same the farther you dial. This is because the sight tape takes in consideration the arrow dropping and slowing down faster. So for example if your pins were at 20,30,40 then when you dial your top pin to 60 they could be (depending on your sight tape) 60,74, 88 or something like that.
      Hope that answers your question!

    • @adammehlenbacher4025
      @adammehlenbacher4025 5 лет назад +1

      How is the “Trifecta” different? Because you are sighting each pin for a specific yardage?

    • @garrettweaver6605
      @garrettweaver6605  5 лет назад

      Adam Mehlenbacher all the trifecta is, is a 3rd Point for your 3rd pin. Spothogg currently only makes a double pointer. So this allows the shooter to know all the ranges of each pin at whatever yardages vs. only having 2 pointers for 3 pins.

    I’m confused. If you shoot ten yards with your 20 yard pin. It should be high?? Correct. I thought I heard you say low. Also your twenty is close to top of wheel. Shouldn’t the rack be higher so you can use more of your wheel to shoot out further. ??

    • @garrettweaver6605
      @garrettweaver6605  5 лет назад

      Those are great questions. Typically you will hit low shooting 10 yards with your 20 pin. When I shoot 3 yards at a shoot in the last I’ve used my 60 yard pin.
      This is because the arrow hasn’t made it to the pin yet. Hope that makes sense.
      The housing question would be at hw mercy of your anchor and peep height. So I have a buddy the anchors pretty low compared to me, he can dial way farther than I can because of this. The higher your peep is on the string the higher you will hit.
      I would experiment with it sometime, move your pin an 1/8 higher or even more and shoot 20 yards. You should hit waaaay high.

    I don't understand why you do this? The trifecta, I mean. What is the benefit of having 3 pins all hit at the same yardage when dialed to that same yardage. I thought the idea of having this sight is to have three set pins for "lets say"20,30,40" and then have the bottom pin be adjustable to any yardage beyond 40. I don't see how the "trifecta" is beneficial??
