- An old ship's lamp, so that's the subject of today's video. I bought an old ship's lamp at the antiques exchange. There she immediately caught my eye. I've never seen anything like it. My ship's lamp is kerosene.
What is a ship lamp:
Ship lights are lights that are used on ships for lighting, both below deck, above decks and as navigation lights.
Navigation lights helped sailors survive in earlier years, especially in times when modern equipment was lacking and in the dark, the position of other ships could only be determined by lighting.
To withstand stormy sea and salt water, the lamps had to be solidly constructed. As a result, many ship fittings are solidly made and have strong glass. This solid also ensured that much more was preserved.
Navigation lights
Navigation lights allow you to determine which direction the ship is heading and what the ship is, even in the dark.
Different types of ships have different types of navigation lights, so the type of ship can be identified by the navigation lights, which is important, among other things, for the rules of priority of navigation. (source www.delampenma...)

08:20 There was a recess in the lid that needed to be tinned.
10:10 I cleaned the brass parts in a "brass cleaner", which is a finished product composed of several types of acids. Cleaning is fast.
11:07 After drying, the cleaned brass parts must be polished with abrasive paste and a cloth wheel.
13:00 I decided to provide the boat lamp with powder paint and therefore it is necessary to fasten the individual parts to the wire for hanging.

Sensational restoration as we've come to expect! Navigation lights are colour coded, RED on the PORT (left) side and GREEN on the Starboard (right) side. It's the same for all aircraft too.

yes magnificent restoration except that here the glass is white so it is a mat fire and the outside of the lamp should also be white, but apart from this small error (you have to know the navigation rules to know) superb job
It’s beautiful! I thought it was going to be small when I first saw it - like, 8 or 9 inches tall... but, it’s huge! What a great old piece of history!!!

The tag said made in GDR- East Germany...so it was made after World War 2 and before the wall fell. Cool piece of history! I have always wondered what life was like in East Germany. Not politics, but just every day life. The Soviet Union kinda fascinated me also. I enjoyed watching this one, and it would come in handy if the power cuts out.

Another beautiful job. Took a little bit to figure out the white sealant around the glass was. It was either window putty or plumbers putty. Both are meant to keep water out.

Encore une restauration magnifique et moi je me suis focalisé sut le verre c'est une matière qui me fascine elle a cette forme pour deux raisons la réverbération de la lumière et pour dissipé une partie de la chaleur . Another magnificent restoration and I focused on the glass it is a material that fascinates me it has this shape for two reasons the light reverberation and to dissipate some of the heat 👏👏👏👏

Ça s’appelle une lentille de Fresnel ... encore un Francais .
J’ai un fanal quasi identique à celui ci , fabriqué aussi en Allemagne . Le mien n’est pas " à secteur " mais " visible sur tout l’horizon " . Il s’agit donc d’un feu de mouillage .
Même à puissance max , ce type de feu éclaire très peu . Par contre il est visible de loin .
Le feu de la video est probablement , lui , un feu de hune .

Nice restoration, but this is a ship's masthead light and should be painted white. Red is for the port light and green for the starboard. Also please look at some videos of splicing rope it would look so much better if done correctly. A good effort though.

You had me until you "spliced" the rope. A nice eye splice is not too difficult. Other than that, a beautiful piece of work!
A masthead light. Really nice. The eyes on the side were for running it up two parallel ropes to keep it form twisting in the wind at the top of a mast.

With 24 years in the Navy, I would suggest this is actually a stern light as would have a 180 degree arc of white light facing to the rear of the ship. The masthead steaming light has a 270 degree of white light facing forward at the highest point of the mast.
Almost right, steaming light actually covers an arc of 225 degrees and it's position and height depends on the vessel
