Restoring Lamp From Abandoned Bunker for My Home

- I bought this lam which is from and abandoned German bunker, to restore it and make it into an industrial style lamp for my home. I completely rebuilt the lamp making it safe to use and installed a smart bulb to be able to control if remotely. I'm very happy with the results of this restoration. Imagine many many years ago some German technician assemble this, without knowing another person will restore his work in the future. It's like a time capsule.
I think about this any time I build or install anything. If I can figure out a way to keep it from feeling corny, I like to leave a little Easter egg for the next guy.

7:06 Look at all those parts. This lamp should last forever... No plastic, just quality stuff. Amazing construction and you oddtinker did an amazing job like always.
It will be a non ferrous metal. The lamp is an Explosion Proof Lamp. Designed to use in areas were flammable vapours or explosives are stored. The seal stops fumes, the thick glass and grill means if the bulb bursts no hot fillament is exposed. And non ferrous , no sparks if its hit by something.
This lamp went from the worst life ever to the best.

Elecrtician's nightmare using that kind of knife to strip the cable, also seen a incarving on the neutral wire (Electrician myself), the restoration result was exelent tho

i literally had a c- in math and everyone called me the smart kid for some reason.
Personally would have kept the "pitted" shell and gave it a coat of gunmetal paint or maybe even "parkerizing", as it would have added character.
But i cant deny that the shiny smooth "as new" version also looks fancy.
So much this, I can understand removing the rust off the important bits. But the pitting was character that's just lost now. Kinda disappointed.
Same, once its refinished like that, it looks like it could have just been a reproduction. But, ya know, not my lamp so I cant get too bent over it hah
I'm by no means an expert so anyone feel free to correct me, but wouldn't leaving it pitted jeopardize the integrity of the metal? as in, leaving it more prone to becoming brittle?
@@neonhalos the shell appears structurally sound, it seems thoroughly over-engineered in fine German tradition, but I don't think the filler would contribute much in this respect anyway
