- Have a nice day friends in today's episode I would like to share with you my finding on the antiques exchange. It is an old forestry stamp - numbering.
Numbering machine
A tool for marking wood consisting of a number part and a handle. The construction of the numerical part is different
numbering machines are different, both in the complexity of the operation and in the materials used. On the numerical part
a certain number is selected, painted with a black brush and the number is struck in wood with a blow. Wood
is numbered due to the registration of timber stocks. The corresponding numbers are stamped with the numbering machines
determined dimensions of the respective piece of wood, or serial number of the piece, number of pieces of a certain type
wood, etc.
It was numbered with charcoal, clay or chalk, or a brush dipped in oil paint. They were also used
metal cartridges (carved), individual iron numerals stamped into the wood with a hammer (as black with
used carbon black mixed with oil). Numbers made of leather or felt attached to a wooden one were also used
a column dipped in black and imprinted on wood. Another tool was a wooden semicircle
with carved numbers, which was soaked in black, and the numbers were imprinted. A hexagonal one followed
hammer - on each edge with a number, which is individually embossed on the wood as needed.
Numbering machines can be divided into numbering wheels, hammers, mallets (semicircular, with one fixed
disk or free-standing numbers in a circle, eg Bischoff, Schuster, etc.) and on moving,
adjustable so-called numbering machines, numbering machines (Göhler's, Liebus's, Duft's, etc.). They are also known
numbering machines having numbers placed individually at the end of the iron wires. These numbers were hot and up to
wood burned.
Newly, wood is numbered with electronic numbering using a numbering hammer and plastic labels
(single-line or double-line).

I'm uploading videos about restoring mechanical things. I'm uploading videos about the restoration of old wooden things. I fix things as best I can. I am self-taught. Therefore, if some procedures are bad, forgive me. Thank you.

The whole time I was trying to figure out just what this thing would be used for. Very cool!
I totally thought it was for stamping cardboard lol I was kind of right
:))
:))
22:44 machine used for.😍😍👍great work
Reasons why I love your videos:
1. I learn something every time
2. You do fantastic work and choose seriously cool projects
3. You make not-so-good days better
Thank you so much! Take care, stay healthy
You summed that up perfectly
Thank you so much to our friend, I really appreciate it. Good health from the Czech Republic Radek.
The color schemes they used back then always reminds me of Christmas... we three kings plays in my brain every Tim's, lol
Lol, thanks James
I must admit I have never seen one of these before. I have heard of branding wood but that was done I thought with a hot iron. Awesome use of your multi talents, wood, metal work, and made from scratch replacement parts. Well done folks, and as always thanks for sharing this video with us and please keep them coming in. Texas watches.
Thank you very much Paul :) Veronika and Radek
I'm not in the forestry industry so I didn't know about the marking tool. It was a more complicated restoration than I thought it would be. You did an excellent job, and I was especially impressed with turning a new handle from a table leg. Very impressive. Thank you and smiles from USA.
Thank you so much Pat for watching. Have a nice day and good health.
Amazing restoration. I had no idea this item ever existed. Awesome!
Thank you very much Nena :) Radek
45 Years ago I worked with it in the Woods😉. In German it is called: "Nummerierschlägel"
Thank you so much August, I'm a little smarter :) Radek
... So... Literal Number Hammer ?:D
August Hermann thats so neat.
Germany, home of the compound noun.
Enigma
Wow! This thing should be introduced back to forestry to replace the paint they you nowadays.
Almost time to open up a tool museum or a school of engineering and technology! Best wishes to all, stay healthy, and give Mona a little hug for me.
Thank you so much to our friend. Good health from the Czech Republic Radek, Veronika and Mona :)
The first time I saw it, I didn't know how to use it without watching this video. Nice job

Thank you very much Lady Tron :) Radek
As a logger, I’ve never seen a stamp hammer that is this cool, good job!
Thanks :)
is it for marking the year the logs were collected?
If so, I wonder if this was originally sold with the 2 and 0 parts, planning on the tool lasting this long.
I’m so glad you demonstrated what it was used for! I had no idea... but it was interesting!!!
Thank you very much Vickie :) Radek
Your attention to detail is astonishing, you're a good engineer Radek!

Thanks Andrew :) Radek
That is really cool! I had no idea what it was meant for until now. Great work!
Thanks Mark :)
Très bon travail ! Toujours fait avec minutie ! Je l’avais déjà vu mais c’était un plaisir de le revoir ! Parfait👏👏👏
Je suis ravie, merci Marc :)
Wonderful restoration - but I almost wish I hadn't watched it.....................now I want to go out and number all of my firewood, so that I use it in consecutive order.......................yeah, I'm a bit compulsive....Thanks for sharing another great video!
Thank you for the humorous comment George :) Radek
Man you are the best one do restoration ever I saw
Wow, thank you very much :) Radek
Great restoration, great tool.
Thank you Joanne :) Radek
Невероятная штучка! 👍👍
:)
Radek, I think you missed a trick there; the central section of those number discs is supposed to rotate, so with each hammer blow you get a number, 1 bigger than the last one when you squeeze the trigger. The detent slots on the second disc can be rotated when you press that button, to select the 10s.
I noticed the same thing. The square notches on that wheel should have given it away. Still, Its a great job of restoring.
Hello Tony. Thank you for the information about the button on the spring? I could not determine its use. Radek
🤔 thanks
@@VeradonaRestoration Maybe you can do a follow up video and modify that, and perhaps also work some of your magic to make the "19" be a "20".
@@nicolasfiore my 1st thought.
Kedves Veronika és Radek! Köszönöm a videót!
You should have made a custom “2” and “0” for it...
Was going to say the same thing. But I guess they didn't think it would be used in the 2000's or still around by then.
@@animeangel1983 Maybe they felt that by 2000, 100 years later or more, you could buy a new one. Buy one very century.
@@johnsmith-jk5pz Don't know, I didn't even know what this thing was used for until i saw the end of the video.
Obviously the maker of the counter didn't anticipate the world seeing the year 1999 fade to 2000.
Super Restoration work and clean. Love it
Thank you :) Radek

I must have been watching thousands of restoration videos during my mid day break. And this one is probably the best I've ever seen. Don't know why, but it really helps to cool the tensions when you're at work. I'm always amazed by the skills required when you restore things, wish I had only the quarter of yours. Here, we have the combo skills + respect of the object restored. Thanks for the good work, and keep on goin' ! Wishful thinkings from France et thanks for what you're doing.
Thank you so much for the beautiful words François :) Radek
Boy!!!! just amazing, you keep us surprising every time

Thank you for the demo at the end, all the way through I could not work out what it was for. Great restoration as usual.
Thank you Philip :) Radek
Because I know next to nothing about restoration, I can't say much about your work except it sure looks good to me. As a photographer, I can say with conviction that you do an exceptionally good job of showing us how you work.
Thank you Steve, I'm self-taught I do as I can :) Have a nice day from the Czech Republic friend :) Radek
HIGHLY COOL!!!
Thanks Tony :) Radek
Great job !
Thanks :)
Hallo Radek

Very cool… had no clue what it was til the end:)
:)
No way, i had from the beginning the thought it was for stamping wood!
Seems like i am a bit toooo addicted to wood😄
If you live in Logging country you know what this is. What's really cool is that stamp impression carries way, way into the log and can still be read due to the compression in the end grain, carries.
Nice job. Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much Owen :) Radek
